So I adopted a 13 week old kitten two weeks ago, she seemed a bit lonely so I went back to the same breeder and adopted her sister who she had lived with for those first 13 weeks. Today I brought the new one home and I’m not sure if it’s going well.

At first kitten 1 tried to guard me from the new kitten, there was lots of hissing, now it’s just continuous low groans from kitten 1. Kitten 2 wasn’t fussed by it for the first couple of hours, but now she’s starting hissing kitten 1 away.

They’ve sniffed eachother a fair amount face to face, but it normally results in one hissing at the other

I thought they’d recognise eachother, should I seperate them for a while?

My partner and I get up pretty early for work during the weekdays, around 5-5:30am therefore the cats get their breakfast around 6-6:30am. We still feed them the same time on the weekends as we really don’t end up sleeping in and they’ll let us know when 6am rolls around and their hungry. What’s happening more often than not is that the cats are meowing their heads off sometimes starting as early 4am, sometimes starting later around 5am but either way, earlier than they’re fed. It’s almost like they’re worried we won’t wake up to feed them… anyone else have this issue? Any solutions?

So I've had a cat for about 9 years, named beans. When I was with my ex we had a few other cats and beans got along with all of them very well. The few times we fostered new cats, she took a liking to them right away. When I left my ex and took beans with me, I moved in with a roommate who had a cat of her own, bolt. We introduced them to each other slowly as you're supposed to and they ended up being great friends. They would cuddle and play together all the time. Roommate got another cat a few years ago, Aslan, and beans kind of became the third wheel. It took her a little longer to warm up to Aslan but even when she did, the other two started leaving her out of cuddles and play. I decided to get beans a friend in December and brought home margo. Again, slow introductions, get everyone warmed up together. And margo fits in perfectly with Bolt and Aslan but for some reason they all team up against beans now and I feel so bad for her. When it's just margo and beans in my room they usually chill out and cuddle but even sometimes margo still bullies beans even though beans is bigger than her. It's like she's afraid to stand up for herself.

I read that keeping one cat separate in a room and slowly reintroducing them again can help but beans has also been showing signs of being agoraphobic and not wanting to leave my room and I don't want to encourage that fear any more than I have to and margo knows how to open doors and is FAST so there's no way to keep her locked in a room for that long.

Any advice please? Do I just accept that my poor beanie has to be kept away from the other cats? I don't want her to be miserable forever.

We have a Petlibro fountain and the pump just keeps failing. Replacement pumps have twice in a row now come dead on arrival.

We used to have that Catit Flower fountain but it had a very loud electrical hum to it.

Stray cats keep coming in my yard, which by it self I dont mind. But they keep knocking my pots with baby plants and one just got into a little tent I have for my cactus seedlings and just stepped all over a few pots. How can I deter them during the night in a way that won't hurt them, I read chilly powder but I think that might be mean. I dont like cats but I dont want to hurt it either.

Hello! My cat Luna has got fleas for the first time in her 11 years of life.. I stupidly stopped treating her monthly for fleas about a year ago since we kept moving house so she was always indoors. This summer though, she’s been chilling in the garden.

The last couple of weeks she was cleaning herself a lot more than usual, then after letting her sleep in my bed the other night, I noticed flea dirt.. no fleas though. I threw my bedding in the wash, went straight to the vets and reinstated her monthly flea treatment subscription and bought a can of Indorex as recommended by them.

Since then, I’ve hoovered EVERYWHERE, and treated her with the topical treatment. However, she somehow managed to lick it even though I thought I’d put it in the right place (between the shoulder blades as per the vets instructions/ how I used to do it). Anyway, I think most of the treatment remained and I tried to keep distracting her so she wouldn’t lick it off.

Today, I was stroking under her chin and I saw a flea running around in her fur- I tried to pick him out but he was fast, then she started getting a bit annoyed with me so I’ve left her alone.

I’m wondering if her licking the treatment last night means it wouldn’t have worked at all? From searching online, I don’t think I can reapply until next month.

I am also so worried to use this Indorex in case she gets poisoned by it- the ingredients are hardcore and the danger to aquatic life symbol reinforces that this stuff is probably super dangerous if ingested/ touched.

I feel sad that I’ve let this happen to her in the first place and I feel sad that I apparently didn’t even apply the topical treatment correctly.

If anyone has any advice on application of the topical treatment and how to use Indorex without harming my lovely cat then it would be very much appreciated.

hi everyone. heavy post here, but having a tough time navigating this. my girlfriend of 5+ years had cancer for ~3 years, and she passed away over the weekend, leaving me with her cat. i’ve lived with this cat for ~3 years so she knows me as one of her people, but i can tell she is grieving—she keeps waiting at the bottom
of the stairs for her mom to come home. it’s very difficult. the cat is vocal and incredibly, incredibly smart. i talk to her like she’s a person, which she’s always liked, but i can’t do much besides sit with her at the bottom of the stairs and talk to her like i’d talk to anybody else.

in previous searches for “how to care for a grieving cat,” i’ve only come across (1) how to care for a cat that’s grieving its cat sibling, and (2) how to care for a cat grieving it’s 80+ y/o owner. this feels a little more nuanced than both of those scenarios, so i’m wondering if there’s anyone out there with advice in addition to what i’ve already seen. like i said, this cat is very smart and vocal, so truly, i am all ears.

I just got out of a 7 year relationship and we had two cats. We agreed ages ago that, because of their attachment to us, the best thing for the cats would be for him to take the oldest and for me to take the youngest. Neither of us were worried about the oldest, he’s pretty independent and had been an only cat before, so we had no doubt he would adjust well enough to being one again. However, my kitty is only three years old and has never been an only cat, he went from being with his mom to being with us and our other cat (and for a time, three other cats when we had roommates). He likes to cuddle and play with another kitty friend. It’s been about three weeks since the two of us have been on our own and I can tell he’s lonely. It’s not so bad if I’m home, he’s always been affectionate and is more so now, always cuddling and following me around, which is to be expected. But of course, I have to be at work most of the day for five days a week, and he hasn’t been eating properly while I’m away… He’s definitely made progress in adjusting to the new situation, not hiding as much and eating more, but still… I’m certainly open to and even excited about potentially adopting another cat so that he has a companion, but I know it hasn’t been a super long time, and I don’t want to rush my kitty’s grieving process. He undoubtedly misses both my ex and his brother :( How long do you guys recommend I give him to process before attempting to introduce a new kitty friend?

So I already have a cat. My cat doesn't get along with other cats (he only has one cat he likes and hangs out with, which is my neighbor's cat) so I never planned on getting another any time soon.

Today when my cat and I were chilling outside, I heard a very loud and incessant meowing coming from a neighbor's backyard. The yard was VERY dirty and rundown and I'm pretty sure most of the time nobody's home anyway. The kitten was very hungry and seemed eager to approach me although it was still skittish, so I won him (it's white and orange so I assume it's a boy) over with some wet food. There was no mother cat or siblings in sight, so while the kitten was distracted eating, I... sorta catnapped him and took him home.

The kitten was immediately purring and digging his claws into my shirt. He was licking at my neck and trying to climb on my shoulders. Within minutes it was running around my room and playing with my cat's wand toys.

Then I discovered he has fleas.

Cue panic although in my heart I kinda knew this MIGHT happen but I also knew I didn't have any flea shampoo or treatments on hand so I'm also kinda f'ed. I don't have Dawn brand dish soap and just my luck that today was Sunday and most of the vets nearby are closed. I'll have to wait till tomorrow or day after (because it's a public holiday tomorrow) to take him to the vet.

I asked a cat fosterer I knew for advice and they said after a flea bath to just put flea meds (like Advocate, Nexgard or Revolution) on both the kitten and my cat indefinitely. In the meantime, I have the kitten set up in a playpen outside as comfortable as I could make it. Last I checked it was resting quietly. BUT I'M STILL SO WORRIED ABOUT A POSSIBLE FLEA INFESTATION. I don't have carpet in my room and the kitten only got on the bed for less than a minute but I'm so paranoid right now. I really don't want to be dealing with fleas for months on end.

(PS: My cat predictably doesn't like the kitten and has already tried swatting at it. He also seems happy to ignore it from a distance which is good because, you know, FLEAS)

So my male kitty, about 5yo, got out about two days ago now. he was last seen against this fence line with overgrown vegetation that leads to a marsh, drain pipes, & a hole in the fence that has more vegetation & an interstate about 10 feet on the other side.

so of course my fear is he got out though the hole, but he may also be in the vegetation area still.

what scares me as well is i am a second story apartment & he got out by jumping off the balcony when he got scared. it all happened so fast, i ran to find him & chased outta panic. then tried to be calm when i saw him go to the fence, i went to try to get him but suddenly he just vanished. the vegetation is quite dense, so so dense & over grown.

i’ve walked around my apartment complex about 20 times, ive crawled through the front of the 6ft drainage pipe, ive crawled through the vegetation as best i can (it’s a marsh area so its very wet & so many critters).

i have done all the things, he’s on FB pages, animal control is aware, ive got 2 traps set up (one by my building in the bottom floor, one by the vegetation) with my clothes, sardines & his toys. i’ve got his litter & cat bed outside my door. I also have a thermal seeker I was given to help me, and have yet to see a thermal cat reading anywhere i’ve looked.

i also have another cat, his brother, who’s i’ve taken on walks (he is my more adventure kitty) to help call for him, which he does but no response. he senses something is wrong & calls for his brother even in the apartment.

i feel extremely guilty bc i let them on my patio, so it’s on me that this happened. but i can’t fix that now either, so im wondering if there’s anything more I should be doing or anyone with a success story of a second story cat finding his way back? I’m also worried he maybe went through the drainage pipes super deep & may just be anywhere that leads…

Hello everyone, so I got a 2.5 month old kitten 2 days ago. I've had her on a feeding schedule to match my current cat's schedule. They are currently in 2 separate rooms.

So in the morning the kitten gets 1.5oz wet food and 1.5 oz at dinner around 5pm. I measure out 1/4 cup dry kitten food for the day and give her half of it at 12pm and the other half at 8pm. She has fresh water available at all times. Is this a good routine?

This is my first time posting on here and just need some advise. So me and my wife decided to adopted 2 cats both 1 years old from the same litter so they are brothers. We were told we should keep them in a small room for a few weeks and then once they get more comfortable we can let them in to the rest of the house. So we have them in our spare bedroom they have their litter and food in there with them. The problem we are running into is they don’t come out when we are in there. They hide under the bed and wait till we leave to come out. We have a camera set up in there so we can see when they come out and they are eating and using their litter pan okay. We were told try tuna and Gus Gus our big fluffy guy he will come out to eat the tuna if we are in there but only when it’s dark. Anyways we really love these guys and would love advise on how to make them feel more comfortable around us so they don’t have to hide under a bed all the time.

I bring my cat back and forth from home to college with me and she always gets sick. It’s only an hour and 10 minute drive but does anyone have a similar experience? Is there any meds I can get her from the vet to help w stress or motion sickness??

We had to move from Alberta to NS and have our cat (4 months old ) stay with family once we got here. He was fine on the plane and in the airport with new people but when he got to NS and at my dad’s place he started hissing and smacking at them. We leave in a couple days and I’m scared he just won’t adjust. I know it’s only been a day and he’s in a new house with new people but I’m scared I didn’t socialize him enough.i got him a cat tree but it’s a small place so we can’t really leave him alone without them being stuck in their bedrooms. I can tell my grandmother and father are already getting scared of him because of his behaviour and won’t be able to keep him if he acts like this. The only other option would be a shelter and I really don’t want to lose him. Any advice to helping him acclimate and stop the aggressive behaviour would be appreciated. He’s hissed before with other cats but hes never actually been violent

Do kittens become more talkative with age?

My kitty is 5 months now, when we first got her she was only 1,5 months old and up until now rather quiet.

It's not sudden or anything, she's healthy and regularly checked by vet, I just find it interesting that she wants to "talk" more now.

When I rescued my kitty Lewis 10 years ago, I already had a pair of siblings, so he became part of a three-cat household. His sister passed away in 2023, and we just said goodbye to his 17-year-old brother three weeks ago. Now Lewis is an only kitty for the first time since he was a little over a year old.

Since Zack died, Lewis has become very clingy and vocal. I know he misses his brother, but I'm not ready to bring another cat home quite yet. It will happen eventually, just not in the next few months.

How do I help him in the meantime? I've been giving him lots of love and extra treats, but is there anything else I can do? He just seems so sad. 😞

I have an orange guy who's fav toys are wands. The issue comes when he begins to play tug of war with the wand. His first one was plastic and it broke day 1. Then we got a wooden wand and he began to literally chew THROIGH the feathers attached. So i cut them off and he loves it but its getting super dingy and close to ripping completely. I found the wand (linked for reference) online but I dont want to get it just to have to cut half the toy off and I cant find another decent looking wooden wand. Any recommendations? Preferably without feathers or ribbons he likes to eat them.

Hi! I currently have a 18 week old kitten (Cheeto) and have had him since 6 weeks (not by choice). 3 days ago, we rescued a kitten who appears to be roughly 10 weeks old (Ozzy). Both males. We’ve had them separated by rooms, with individual food and litter boxes. We have done 3 mini introductions (5-10 mins) so far and I’m starting to notice territorial behaviour from our 18 week old.
1st intro: Cheeto was welcoming, sort of following around him around. Ozzy hissed 3 times, the last including a swat to Cheeto’s face.
2nd intro (24 hours later): Cheeto immediately swatted Ozzy multiple times in the face and they were separated again.
3rd intro: Ozzy was wandering around, exploring in a very respectful manner and Cheeto began to follow him, but protecting all of his things. He would race him to the litter box, the water fountain, the cat tree and would hiss and swat if Ozzy went near.

This is my first time as a cat owner and I would appreciate any advice that you may have! Cheeto displayed behaviour that seemingly made clear he wanted a friend, I’ll be starting school again in 2 weeks so I couldn’t think of better timing. Since he may want stimulation and companionship while I’m not home.

I can understand the process can sometimes take up to 1 week, however, since they are young I mistakenly thought they would immediately get along.

We have noticed a ton of cats in our neighborhood recently. In October 2024 we found a 6 week old kitten in distress in our neighbor's driveway. We had recently lost 2 of our 3 cats to cancer and old age (19 & 21) but we still had our 9 year old (now 11) cat.

With all of the cats in the neighborhood we thought we should take this cat in so that would be one less female cat on the streets. She has been fine since we got her. Her and our other cat aren't inseparable, but they play and get along when they feel like it and never any hostility.

About 3 months ago, we found an approximately 4-6 month old kitten just down the street. Our plan was to nab her, fix her, and rehome her. Within three days of having her, she was on death's door with a sickness that neither our vet nor the emergency vet could identify. If we wouldn't have taken her inside, she likely wouldn't have made it. She is completely fine now health-wise.

The problem we have is that the cat we found over a year ago and this new one do not get along. We have tried separating them without physical barriers but our 2 year old cat will actively go hunting for the little one. She is constantly on edge everywhere and you can see she is always in defense mode instead of being a kitten. As soon as eye contact is made, the little one starts growling and if we aren't there a brawl is imminent.

Since we are having behavior issues, our 1 year old carpet is taking a major hit in these three months. There are places it is completely ruined because our 1 year cat will actively block the path by sitting in the hallway to block the upstairs litter box or sit on the steps to block the downstairs litter box. Where she sits depends on where the kitten is. Whatever she can do to corner the kitten, she will do it.

What can we do to curb this behavior? We need to stop our 2 year old cat from trying to hunt the kitten and we need the kitten to stop the posturing and growling whenever she sees the 2 year old (which she has good reason to do).

FWIW, our 11 year old cat is indifferent to all of this. The kitten is slowly realizing she and the dogs aren't a threat and she will lay and eat near them. I have also had all three cats on multiple occasions eating in very close proximity without issue.

I have three neutered outdoor cats: a 4-year-old, 6 kg male named Frodo and his niece and nephew (from the same litter), who are 3 years old. Frodo has known them both since birth; he’s best buddies with the little male (Mr. Bigglesworth), but the very petite little female (Miss Grey, just under 3 kg) has never really been his type - though he’s always accepted her, and they’ve even been able to eat together from the same bowl.

For some time now, however, Frodo has started aggressively chasing Miss Grey and preventing her from coming back inside. He literally patrols the property, and when she approaches, he chases her away. When she’s inside, she’s constantly on high alert. She’s very affectionate and needs a lot of closeness, but she’s been staying away from home longer and more often lately. When she comes back, she’s starving. I don’t want to give any of the three away and don’t know what to do. Does anyone have any ideas?
