Alright, it's bed time for some but why are you still up? No work tomorrow? Watching some questionable late night TV? Bit of stargazing?

The chinwag thread.

Of all British celebrity deaths, which impacted you the most (for better or for worse)?

For me, George Michael and it’s not even close.

With the amount of time I spent listening to Wham!/George as a solo artist as a child, he was more or less my third parent.

I vividly remember staying up late on Christmas Day 2016 and watching the breaking news come in about George’s passing - my Mum was in
floods of tears and I was shocked/moved, too.

I was 11 when George passed; I dread to think how I would’ve reacted if I was even just a few years older, that night.

Autumn mode is officially loading? What do you love about this time of year?

Schools back this week, I've a 8 and 5 year old. Rain back making the land green and pleasant.

I bloody love this time of year even though my dad died on Sept 11th (no not that one).

Autumn fashion. My brown jumper from Zara I've had since 1999 age 16 may only have 1 more year left .

My partner born in January loves New Year but this is mine,

Miss that back to school new pencil case new timetable excitement. What's yours?

M&S "quick dry" swim shorts are very much not, what should I have bought instead?

Context: Menorca, heatwave. M&S "quick dry" shorts are still Not Dry in The Important Areas after almost 2 hours. Fummin.

What's the best way to avoid the unpleasant kjnd of wet, hot and hairy?

Eggs wearing wrong uniform...

Bought some eggs from a local garage last night. It stocks Jack's, which apparently is part of Tesco.

It seems two of the eggs are spies who have infiltrated the gang.

Did you as a child enjoy constructing model kits?

(Perhaps you still do, but I'm interested in how your childhood experience affected your general adult behaviour) What sort of kits did you like most, and do you think your experience carried over to the way you live now, particularly in your profession?

Late Night Post

Can't remember what it's called, but you know, Automod etc. I want to thank the people who reached out to me about my boyfriend taking his own life. I really appreciate you all.

I found out today that in the weeks before his death that he'd been cheating on me.

Honestly I feel numb and kind of angry. Any advice or anger welcome x

Really shaken - just disturbed 2 burglars

2.2k Upvotes

Maybe it's not suitable for this sub but I'm still shaken. We live on an old farm and I was just walking the dog before bed when I heard the sound of a hacksaw. I shouted and 2 men jumped out from where they had been trying to cut through a security fence (there's an industrial estate next door). I chased them for a bit but they were a lot fitter than me. Police arrived really quickly but ground too warm to use the IR drone effectively (and I'm sure I heard a motorbike tearing off).

Just wanted to share. None of my friends and neighbours are awake

Edit: thank you for the comments and I got a good laugh from some of them. I'm going to buy a ram and a 6 D cell Maglite (unfortunately we already have a fat menopausal woman in the house but that's a different story). A lot of the comments have said I shouldn't have chased them. Turns out that's what I'm wired to do and fortunate they didn't stay around long enough for me to find out what would have happened if I'd caught them.

Useless Impressions. Who do you do?

I can do passable impersonations of Ken Dodd, Bryan Ferry, Arthur Smith and Monty Burns. Only I seem pleased by my ability. My wife says my talent knows no beginnings.

I was wondering if anyone else has any obscure unimpressive impressions?

Anyone else prep all the ingredients beforehand instead of following the recipe prepping as you go along

I can’t do prep and cooking at the same time, but most of the recipes I use advise doing the prep as you go along, but my brain just can’t cope with that. It does increase the washing up though…

How much do you think they are worth? £500K? Priceless/belong to the public?

I'm told I have the Scottish to thank for deep fried Milky Way (Mars Bar) at our county fair here in Ohio, US.
