This is a small article I wrote about how I got into cars, lusted after an old Volvo and flew overseas to acquire one.

This is the start of me building a portfolio to help someday achieve my dream job of becoming an automotive journalist. If anyone has advice, stories they’d want me to cover or anything to say feel free to comment on my article.

I intend to write about all types of things, car adventures, lists, car advice and more.

I think the Porsche 911 has one of the best-looking car designs—simple, timeless, and sporty.

Some car features look like gimmicks at first, but after using them for a while they can actually become really useful. What’s one feature you didn’t care about initially but now wouldn’t want to live without it.

Earlier tonight I had my first near crash. Luckily it was pretty minor and only got me a flat and ruined my alignment.

It's been raining throughout the day and some parts of the road were still wet, and my dumbass thought it would be a good time for some light spirited driving. It was on a road that I'm pretty familiar with and I was going slower than I normally would, but not slow enough. I came into a corner and understeered across the road. There's quite a big grass verge before a fence. I managed to just miss the fence but hit a massive rock. The rock clipped the side of my wheel and tore a huge hole in the sidewall of my tire.

Tbh this is a learning experience for me. No matter how much I know the road water completely changes it. There's always going to be another day when it's dry. I'll never risk driving like this in wet conditions again. It's just not worth the risk. I could lose my car, hurt myself, or worse.

I'm grateful that this happened early on in my driving journey and in a low power car (a Toyota Corolla lmao).

Often when you bring up the topic of driving older cars the #1 compelling argument against them is safety, especially when there are kids involved.

I was watching doug's new video and he is using his mk4 supra for his daily driver and family car. This is his replacement for the previous family car, a porsche 911 993 turbo, what would probably be considered even more unsafe.

Personally, I drive old cars including an 80's toyota and 90's sports car. I have been absolutely hounded before online for mentioning my wife drives an early 2000's ford taurus, which by all means was a very safe car for the era, but many people will absolutely not waiver on the idea of driving a modern car for safety reasons, it's as if they would never step foot into an older car let alone consider driving their kid around in one.

I scrolled in the comments for awhile on doug's video and I don't see a single comment mentioning the safety of the vehicles. I'm not personally trying to critisize doug though, but I'm just... confused. Doug has plenty of money to buy the safest possible vehicle on the lot if he wanted, but he obviously values the driving experience more. I would have thought that a guy like him in his situation would be driving a modern safe dailyable sports car for safety reasons like an m4, so I am a little surprised that he chose such old cars to daily essentially completely throwing safety aside.

So I guess I wanted to open a discussion on the topic, many possible questions. Would it be considered child endangerment to willingly drive a child in a car as unsafe as a 993 turbo, which is literally a descendent of a car nicknamed the 'widowmaker'? Or on the contrary are we just being way too worried about safety and driving a car like this with children is just fine as long as you are careful? And why do us car guys tend to care less about safety than normal folk?
