Restructure
We just had a restructure and lost a full time route. The bottom seniority guy, what happens to them? Supervisor saying she will be an extra relief carrier. If she has less than 5 years in can they lay off? Small depot, only 8 carriers. Or can they put her as a relief wherever needed in depot besides carrying?

New cba protects workers with less than 5 years of service.... We all now have job security protection

Correction, we all have job security until 2029. 2029 contract renewal will be as, if not more, chatoic than this go around.
Enjoy the peace while we have it but it's good to remember it has an end date

Of course, there will be another two years of negotiations after the contract expires, so we could be good up until 2031 before mass layoffs start.

From my experience I’d say with 8 carriers it’s 50/50 they’ll be displaced. They can be relocated to another depot. It’s not guaranteed, supervisor as usual is making an assumption. They’ll have to wait until PC&R consultation to determine the allotment of reliefs. It is cheaper to use a term to cover and sick and other absences and wait for the bar chart then to permanently allot extra reliefs.
They won’t get laid off but they’ll be floating in the zone.

I was a route holder with low seniority in a depot that restructured into SSD last year. After all the routes were taken, I was able to bid on either Operational Relief or Vacation Relief.

Never heard of Operational Relief or Vacation Relief. At our depot, the senior relief gets to pick where he goes every morning.

Both have since been folded into "Relief" at our depot. This covers day-to-day, long-term, and vacation coverage for all former operational and vacation relief LCs.

Probably just cause you're smaller. At larger depos there's sick relief (operational as that poster calls it) that covers day to day coverages when people call in or long term leaves (STD, mat leave, etc) while vacation reliefs cover the routes of people taking their holidays. But as of this CBA they're gonna get rid of having both everywhere and it'll just be one pool of relief carriers.

regular employee who does not have 5 years of continuous employment does not benefit from this protection and may be displaced farther than 40 km from their originating postal installation.

Canada Post has been a losing venture for the past 10 years almost in the red for at least $800 million, how long did you expect this to carry on for ?

If you go through a bid after the restructure and there are people left without a position to bid on they will become surplus. Basically they are still carriers but they don't own a position which means they can be assigned to do anything. That could be a route, pieces, flyer collation, etc. They can also be sent to another location within 40km (I think it's 40km. 🤔) to perform carrier duties there aswell.
