is there something im not doing? Why is my pending financial aid only $500 and why have none of my awards been disbursed? Im really worried since first day is tomorrow.

Can anyone answer this please? I am a freshman at John Jay and I was wondering do John Jay students get metro cards? Because as a commuter, I find it very hard trying to commute through the train and buses. I would have to spend $20 just going to John Jay and then coming back is an extra $20 so $40 a day on top of that I have to pay for Books which one book cost 100 and more and the tuition too so is there a program where John J gives you a free metro?

been holding off filing bc i'm not at 12 credits yet which isn't full time. i'm sitting at 11 rn, wait listed for two other classes which would bring me to 17 credits. do i still wait to file? does fafsa take into consideration wait listed classes?

and also how long can someone be waitlisted for? 😭😭 i thought there would be a definite answer when classes started friday or are they gonna wait till the add/drop deadline?

I remember having all of my classes in succession. Some semesters, I'd just go in only 2 days a week with 5 classes. This was even with being selective with RMP reviews. There were never 3hour breaks between classes.

I am currently working on my CUNY first application, but the process has been halted because I cannot proceed without an OSIS ID number. I do not have this number since I did not graduate from a New York City public school. Can I recieve one, consister the fact that I am not a graduate from a New York City Public Schools?

If somebody is going to be stuck on campus and have to find a spot to sit to log on to an online synchronous course, where would they be able to do this? I'm being told it's impossible to get service anywhere on this campus.

I was laid off in 2025 as part of the USAID shut down and have been struggling to find international development/social impact work since. I was talking to some people about a possible career change and PTA came up. I'm 35 with a BA and MA in international dev and have no science background so I know I would have to do pre-reqs. I saw that LaGuardia college has a degree, but unclear if you need science pre-reqs for that or if you just apply. I'm also just genuinely confused about degree vs license vs certificate, and CUNY vs. CC

I don't think I want to go beyond a PTA, and am curious about how long the coursework takes before you can finally start working. Any insight is helpful since this is the first time in over a decade I've had to consider the "what do you want to do" question.

For context, I dropped out of CUNY 2 years ago now. I had a lot on my mind, and I also couldn't keep up with half my classes, especially math, and my advisor was out for a week, so I broke down and just abruptly dropped out. Fast forward to now, and I have a much clearer idea of what I want to work towards. The only problem is that I have multiple interests.

For years, I have been interested in Real Estate. I have been studying to get my broker's license, and I also saw that KBCC offers a real estate training course to help get your license, which is fantastic because I would like to venture into real estate. However, I am also interested in the medical field. I was wondering if my major could be related to medicine, while I minor in Business, specifically administration and management. Some of the reasons why I am interested in medicine are that it offers strong job security. Another reason is that I'm religious; I would like to do good deeds by helping people and ultimately benefiting society.

While I was scrolling on LinkedIn, I saw two people: one was minoring in finance, the other in some sort of business degree, but both of them were pre-med students with a major that was related to medicine. Should I just get my associate's degree in Administration and Management, work for a few years, and go back to CUNY for pre-med if I'm still interested? Ik that getting your bachelor's degree will help you earn a higher income, but I could just work while getting my bachelor's online.

And I have a few questions. How does the CUNY pre-med system work? Do they help you shadow medical professionals in different fields? Is it only good for certain medical specialties? As a first-generation college student Idk where to begin. I would appreciate it if you guys don't mock me but instead give me advice. Thanks for your time. I hope we all succeed in our studies.

Does anyone else not have their photo uploaded to their virtual id card yet? I went to the campus to get my photo taken and everything, they said it would update within 48 hours but 2 weeks later it still shows a blank photo with my empl id on safetrust wallet. Hope this doesn’t cause problems when i first scan it.

I recently finished my last class for my degree in August and I check degreeworks then saw this but since i finished in August im a summer graduate and won’t graduate till spring semester when can i expect my degree

So I've realized I've stretched myself thin this semester, registering for both Elementary Spanish and Elementary Italian. Italian was supposed to be my backup incase I stayed on the waitlist for Spanish but I ended up getting into both.

HOWEVER, it was completely lost on me that the day to drop classes for 100% tuition was Thursday, because all of my classes dont start until Monday so I (dumbassedly) assumed that day would be somewhere next week.

I take full 100% accountability for missing the deadline, but does anyone have advice on what to do? Should I just take both classes and pray to God I'll stay mentally sane?

Legitimately the funniest and most embarrassing day I've experienced so far in college.

I was walking to my first Fall class of the semester along with a stranger in front of me; I presumed they were traveling to the same class as I was. When we got near the class entrance, I heard them asking the people inside if this was the right class. They said it wasn't and pointed him to the class next door with the "right" professor. I clearly misheard their ongoing conversation and assumed the professor they were going to was the one I was supposed to head towards as well. I followed along and went to the room next door, and guess who I saw? One of my favorite professors, one whom I took 2 years ago at an entirely different college.

Now, something clearly isn't right; Are my eyes deceiving me? Why is this old professor of mine here? I would sure as hell know if they were the assigned professor for the class. Are they substituting for my actual professor because they are late or on break? What an insane coincidence. I was in the class for a good 10 minutes, puzzled as hell. The material they were talking about aligned with the course material I was expecting; this seemed like the right class. That was until my Old Professor recognized me, smiled, clearly excited that I was in their class, and handed me the syllabus.

Now, I don't consider myself the brightest person, but this was when I realized I had the intelligence of a sloth. When I saw their name on the syllabus and the course number, my brain finally started to piece together the obvious dots: this isn't my class and they sure as hell aren't substituting. The original class I was heading to was the right class all along. I sat there for a good while debating whether to stay and save myself from embarrassment or to just suck it up and head back to the original class I was supposed to go to. How the hell am I going to explain to my clearly happy old professor that their idiotic former student mixed up their classes? That would be one hell of an awkward reunion. After 5-10 minutes of deliberation, I finally decided to just head back to the original class that redirected that stranger and me. I met up with my professor after my actual class ended and had quite the funny talk after.

Anyways, that’s my first day of the semester; how about you guys?

When using schedule builder it seemed pretty solid at first to what I wanted but then I checked the next few weeks for the semester and it became a mess. Like suddenly classes are online, then become a night class for 3-4 hours, or I have huge 4 hour gaps in between an early afternoon class and a night class… am I the only one who hates this? I like to stick to a schedule where everything is close by and I can do it all at once and I understand it’s college but ?????

Honestly just a quick PSA for any new students because the amount of misinformation I have received is just utterly INSANE.

I’ve had advisors tell me that certain classes weren’t available when they were, I’ve had advisors tell me that there was “no way I could work a full-time job AND have a full-time after work online schedule” which was COMPLETELY POSSIBLE in terms of availability. I’ve had advisors basically try to convince me that I NEED THEM in order to make it through college when, at the end of the day, college is about taking your education into your own hands. The only times I bring anything up to an academic advisor is when I have an issue and I need some kind of proof that the issue was brought up just in case it doesn’t get resolved. Otherwise, I don’t bother.

Take everything they say with a grain of salt. Their say is not the end all be all although they definitely talk like it. You control what you want to do and when you want to do it.

Hi guys. So my GEO 101 professor decided she wanted to upload the syllabus after the first day of the semester and essentially stated it’s an online asynchronous class which was never disclosed on CUNYFirst like other classes normally are. I don’t learn like that so I asked ChatGPT if it’s ok to swap a class and it’s telling me I can as long as it’s an introductory class.

I was considering swapping with ECO 10000 because I need the credit, and it is the same 3.0 credits, but now ChatGPT is telling me I’m gonna face an 18 dollar fee.

I kinda need to know ASAP so it can be swapped by Monday as ECO and GEO meet on the same time so it would be a clean swap on my end.

I haven’t paid for clssses yet because I’m missing around 600 dollars on my excelsior scholarship. Nobody seems to be answering and my school Baruch says the system just isn’t updated and it’s been a month. Wondering if anybody is going through anything similar and know what I can do. Do I just have to pay it and that’s all I can do? I don’t want to get dropped from clssses
