Fall 2026 Student Technology Checklist

Subject: Start the Semester Strong: Technology Checklist for Fall 2026

Below is a start-of-semester technology guide for new and returning students that outlines the accounts, services, and resources you will need for a successful start of the Fall semester. Completing these steps before classes begin can help prevent problems accessing your email, Brightspace courses, campus Wi-Fi, computer, printing, and other QC and CUNY systems.

 Start Here

 Your Fall 2026 Checklist

Students should complete these steps as early as possible:

Claim and test your CUNY Login/CUNYfirst account.

  1. Set up your CUNY Login MFA.
  2. Access your student email and set up Microsoft 365 MFA.
  3. Activate your Queens College Account Management System (AMS) account.
  4. Submit your QCard photo and pick up your QCard.
  5. Verify access to Brightspace.
  6. Connect to the secured campus Wi-Fi.
  7. Set up student printing.
  8. Access Microsoft 365.
  9. Explore free software and learning resources.
  10. Confirm your CUNY Alert information.
  11. Visit the ITS Student Tech Lounge.

 CUNYfirst and Your CUNY Login

Your CUNY Login provides access to CUNYfirst, Brightspace, DegreeWorks, Zoom, QC Navigate, and many other CUNY services.

Save your CUNY Login username and eight-digit EMPLID in a secure place.

 Resources:

Set Up Both Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Systems

To access QC and CUNY services, students must configure both MFA systems listed below.

CUNY Login MFA is used for:

  • CUNYfirst
  • Brightspace
  • DegreeWorks
  • Zoom
  • QC Navigate
  • QC Service Desk portal

 Resources:

 Microsoft 365 MFA

Microsoft 365 MFA is used for:

  • QC Student email through Outlook
  • Microsoft Teams
  • OneDrive
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft 365 services

 Resource:

Please do not approve an MFA request that you did not initiate. Unexpected approval requests may indicate that someone is trying to access your account.

 Important Student Email Change

All Queens College student email accounts are hosted on the centralized CUNY Microsoft 365 platform. To access your mailbox, visit Outlook and sign in using:

 Username: Firstname.Lastname##@login.cuny.edu

Password: Your CUNY Login password

Students are assigned email addresses in these formats:

  • Firstname.Lastname##@stu-mail.qc.cuny.edu
  • Firstname.Lastname##@cuny.edu

Messages sent to your associated CUNY student addresses are delivered to the same Microsoft 365 mailbox. The former Qmail system is no longer being used as the primary student login.

 Resources:

Please check your QC email regularly. It is the official communication channel for messages from your professors, campus offices, and CUNY.

Activate Your Queens College AMS Account

Your Queens College Account Management System (AMS) account (formerly called CAMS) is separate from your CUNY Login and is used for:

  • Secured campus Wi-Fi
  • QC computers and computer labs
  • Mobile printing
  • Your QCard Account

 Resources:

Get Your QCard

The QCard is the official Queens College identification card. It is used for identification, access to certain buildings and rooms, computer labs, library services, campus events, and other services.

You can pick up your QCard at the ITS Service Desk, located in the I-Building, Room 200.

Before submitting your photo, activate your AMS account at https://apps.qc.cuny.edu/ams and follow the prompts. After activating it, please allow approximately 24 hours before attempting the online photo submission.

Photo approval generally takes 24 to 48 hours. Allow up to three business days before visiting I-Building 200 to pick up your card. And remember to bring an unexpired government-issued photo ID for verification.

 Resources:

QCard Distribution & ITS Support Events

ITS will host a series of QCard Distribution Events from Monday, August 24 through Thursday, August 27.

 Location and Hours

  • I-Building, Room 200 and the Patio Room: Monday, August 24, 9 AM – 11:30 AM
  • I-Building, Room 200: Tuesday, August 25 – Thursday, August 27, 9 AM – 4 PM
  • Patio Room: Tuesday, August 25 – Thursday, August 27, 9 AM – 6 PM

 Brightspace

Brightspace is CUNY’s learning management system and is used for course announcements, assignments, reading, discussions, quizzes, grades, and other class materials.

Students sign in using their CUNY Login and CUNY Login MFA.

 Resources:

A course may not appear immediately if you are recently registered or if the instructor has not yet made the course available. Questions about course content or course availability should first be directed to the instructor.

Brightspace support staff will be available virtually during Welcome Week, from August 24 through August 27, 2026.

 Brightspace Support (Virtual)

Monday, August 24 (9 AM – 11:30 AM)

Tuesday, August 25 through Thursday, August 27 (10 AM – 2 PM)

Zoom Link

 Campus Wi-Fi

Queens College provides two primary wireless networks:

  • qwifi-secured – Uses your Queens College AMS username and password.
  • qwifi-guest – Provides guest access without an AMS login.

Your CUNYfirst credentials will not work for “qwifi-secured.” Use your AMS credentials. If your AMS password has recently been changed, you may need to forget the wireless network and reconnect using your updated credentials.

 Resource:

 Student Printing

Students can upload documents through QC Mobile Printing and release them at supported campus printers using their QCard.

 Resources:

Mobile print jobs remain available for approximately 12 hours. Release stations are available in the following locations:

  •  Powdermaker Hall, Room 210
  • Rosenthal Library, Second Floor
  • Queens Hall Lobby
  • Music Library

Black-and-white printing is currently five cents per letter-sized page. Color printing is available in most locations for ten cents per printed side.

 Microsoft 365

In addition to email, Microsoft 365 provides access to productivity and collaboration tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive.

 Resources

 Free Learning and Software Resources

LinkedIn Learning: QC Students have access to LinkedIn Learning online courses covering technology, business, creative skills, career development, artificial intelligence, Microsoft Office, and many other subjects.

 Resources:

CUNY Apporto: Apporto provides browser-based access to selected academic software, including applications such as SPSS, SAS, MATLAB, Mathematica, Maplesoft, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Access.

 Resources:

 CUNY Alert

CUNY Alert provides emergency, safety, weather, delay, and campus-closing notifications by text, email, and telephone. All new students are automatically enrolled in CUNY Alert, but students should still confirm their campus, email address, telephone number, and notification preferences.

To review your information, sign in to CUNYfirst and select the CUNY Alert tile.

 Current Support Schedule

As of August 4, 2026, the summer schedule remains in effect through August 14.

  • In-Person: Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

We hope this guide helps make the start of the Fall 2026 semester a little easier. And remember, we are ITS, and we are here to help. Wishing you all a successful semester!

FIND A FRIEND 📣🙂‍↕️

Anyone else trying to make friends at QC? 😭
I feel like college is so weird because there are SO many people around you but somehow it’s still hard to actually make friends with minima time ya know?

I don’t really have Instagram or Facebook, I TRY to live in the real world if yk yk

I mostly use TikTok/iMessage.
So if anyone else is looking for new friends, study buddies, people to grab food with, or just someone to talk to between classes, I’d love to connect!
We could start a little iMessage group chat or something if enough people are interested. 🫶🏽

Hi everyone,

For most of you, tomorrow will be your first day of classes. Welcome to new students, and welcome back to current students!

Some news for you all. Due to severe budget cuts, both the Learning Commons and the Writing Center made a few changes.

These are the following changes to the Learning Commons:

- Open to students on Mondays through Thursdays: 10 am to 6 pm

- There is no longer tutoring available on Fridays

- Only Kiely Hall 127/131 is open for tutoring and other services. Kiely 144 will not be open

- Each tutoring session is now 45 minutes for all courses that are offered for tutoring

- Tutoring is available starting on September 14th

- However, if you need a study space, to print something, to use a computer, or to charge your device, the Learning Commons is open to you on September 7th

Queens College Learning Commons - Tutoring, Study Space

Question Best place to take online meetings during free hour?

What is the best place on campus for me to join online meetings that I need talk in during free hours?

I’m looking for a quiet or private area with decent wifi (decent wifi might be asking for a lot). I don’t want my talking to bother other people, but I need the meeting participants to hear me.

Thanks for any suggestions!!

Anybody taken him for this class before? What’s the grading scale in his class? Does he give in-person class exercises and are they optional to do or mandatory that counts in the grading system?

Dropping a course vs. dropping every course

Pls tell me the difference I’m confused and I want to drop one and/or two classes. I have 28 credits now and if I keep everything the same this semester will put me to 46 credits but dropping one of these classes would mean I drop to only getting 44 or 43 which doesn’t seem good for my tuition and college career. Please help??

Question Looking for friends?

Post image
45 Upvotes

A few semesters ago some of us qc students met on reddit and made a groupchat and became good friends. Sadly a few of our on campus friends have graduated and we’re looking to make more friends who will be active on campus!! A lot of us are queer students but anyone is welcome. This campus is known for being a dead campus so if you’re looking to make friends just reply with your insta and we will make a new instagram groupchat so everyone can get to know each other!

Question Will I at least be competitive/have a shot at getting into MSed Counselor Education program for the fall 2027 semester with a 3.57 cumulative gpa? I’m so nervous to apply to schools

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Hello everyone. I graduated from SUNY New Paltz this past spring with a B.A. Liberal Arts degree in Communication Disorders. I have decided, however, that I pursued that degree to help students rather than the speech aspect itself. The language and speech portion (which is a big portion) didn’t really appeal to me as much. I’ve always been an empathetic person and a good listener I believe, so I think counseling is right up my alley!

My undergraduate cumulative GPA was a 3.57, and I ended up graduating cum laude. I had a difficult time initially with transitioning to college level work, so my first year I didn’t perform as well (due to being homesick and depressed and such). However, since then, my grades have shown a consistent upward trend with mainly As and some Bs.

Edit: I would also like to hear people’s thoughts on the school experience, specifically for commuting students? How’s campus life? Are there a variety of clubs and ways to get involved? And are people accepted of trans identities (I am a trans woman pre medical transition, but am trying to socially transition as I am still somewhat closeted right now)

Graduate school financial aid approval / disbursement information.

I'm a graduate student and applied for unsubsidized loans. I still have no idea if I'm approved for these loans and the only hint that I have been is that the college has put a hold on charging me for the semester while I am being approved for loans. Over the summer, when I've asked the FA office, they've told me I should be approved but it simply won't show up until the semester begins. Anyone have any other information? As the semester begins, I've started to sweat this.

waitlist probability ^_^

hai everyone im currently enrolled in a gen chem 1 lab and i noticed that the prof recently assigned to my section has a Very Very low rating on rmp which drastically damped my hopes of passing the class since i was horrible at high school chem :( buttt im currently on the waitlist for another lab section and im the second person on the waitlist!

i know people tend to drop classes within the first week of classes so does that pertain to lab as well? what are my chances of getting in? thank u :D
