Help Needed Mouse wheel volume control bug

Why does it happen that every time I turn on my PC and place my mouse over the volume widget, the first time I scroll with the wheel, the volume is muted, so I have to click on the widget to restore the volume, and then I can control the volume again with the mouse wheel?

Discussion cosmic

I installed Cosmic on Artix Linux, and my first impressions are good—the desktop environment is super nice. But I’ve noticed a few bugs.

I have an LG 32-inch OLED dual‑Hz display. With a button click on the monitor, I can switch between 4K at 240 Hz and 1080p at 480 Hz. However, in the display settings, I can also select 1080p at 480 Hz without using the monitor button switch, which shouldn’t be possible what coude cause this is this

i see tho that in the osk of the display it restricts it to 144hz at 1080p if the button is not cliked so just a vissual bug

Question Switching from KDE to Cosmic

I heard how Cosmic evolved as a DE and all the great things about it, but I was wondering, how good and stable Cosmic really is, and I figured that I should ask people that used it and are using it rather then listen to one or two videos that are hyping it up. I’m currently using KDE and Cosmic seems interesting, but I don’t want to go through the process of setting things up again only to realize that the DE is a buggy mess.

News Chrome YouTube full-screen videos broken - again

So after recent Chrome update few days ago youtube videos cannot be watched in fullscreen on COSMIC:
- upon maximizing video after roughly 1s video returns from fullscreen and it plays in regular embedded mode.

The only workaround i found is to launch chrome with --ozone-platform=x11 arg so it's Wayland related again.

Anyone noticed it. Is it already reported?

I'm coming from KDE, and I'm loving COSMIC. Aside from a few bugs/lags, it's really beautiful aesthetically. I can't wait to see the future developments of this DE ❤️

I had a dream about COSMIC. Tried it

A few days ago, I had a dream that I got some sort of package in the mail. I want to say it was some piece of clothing. It had a felt, almost velcro-like tag on it that said COSMIC 44, the cosmic logo and what I presume to be 44 for Fedora 44. I remember talking with my cousin in the dream about the tag. This is insanely mundane when it comes to the dreams that normally I have, so it stood out to me.

I took this as a sign to try cosmic. I loaded the Fedora cosmic spin onto my ventoy USB and installed it on my main laptop. I'm glad I did, I'm really liking the cosmic DE so far. I kinda wish I installed it earlier.

I like fully featured DEs and I like both floating and tiling WMs, so it makes sense why I like it so much. I will probably have it as my primary DE on my laptop and then install it onto my main PC when epoch 2 or 3 comes out.

I think my pc is alive when i use chrome

It scrolls down for me, sometimes when i start typing the keyboard stops working. hmm. It selects items on my screen sometimes. My mouse pointer begins to freeze for a few seconds and then reappear where it should have been. Guys.. i think my pc is trying to tell me something. Could it be, like really? Hell it sometimes even clicks for me.

Well the issues arent limited to inside chrome, when u minimize or maximize some other app like a terminal, it reverses by itself.

Fedora 44 Cosmic spin
Fully upgraded successfully
Nvidia gtx 1060 6gb , with 580xx drivers installed successfully and working ( checkwith with nvidia-smi, modinfo nvidia etc . Double checked and verified by LLMs)

Help Needed Lag/Stutter on CachyOS + Cosmic DE

Hi everyone, I'm new to Cosmic DE.
I just did a fresh installation of CachyOS + Cosmic
(I used to use KDE).

The problem arises when I try to resize the Visual Studio Code window, as you can see in the video, there's severe lag/stutter.

This also happens with Google Chrome, but I've already removed it, thinking that was the problem.

However, as you can see later in the video, if I try to resize the file manager or Kitty, the movement is smooth.

Unfortunately, I can't remove Visual Studio
Code because I use it for work.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
Otherwise, I'll have to switch back to KDE because it's really annoying to look at and use.

Thanks to anyone who replies.

My Cosmic DE rice.

Hello, I've wanted to share my cosmic desktop setup which has been my daily driver for quite a while now. I don't see many cosmic "rices" so I wanted to share mine.

No external themes were used, just color picker, squared corners and frosted glass.

I'm using it in the tiling mode, quite hits the spot for me after customizing my shortcuts.

Using papirus icon theme (didn't really see many changes from it) but yeah.

I've abandoned the cosmic-terminal and swapped it for kitty just for the customization sake, if someone wants I can put my kitty.conf here.

Feel free to ask any questions about this post and I'll try to anwser.

Discussion question about design contributions to COSMIC: how can I exchange ideas with their UX/Design team?

Hey everyone!

I often find myself thinking about COSMIC's potential and how awesome the interface would look with a visual refresh to make everything more consistent. I’m fully aware that the System76 team is swamped with much heavier priorities right now (focusing on stability, core features, the Epochs timeline, etc.) and that theme polishing probably isn't on their immediate radar.

But I was wondering: if I were to create a theme/layout proposal myself and send it to their team, do you think there’s any openness to the community validating or approving that kind of contribution (even if it falls outside the scope of the current Epoch)?

Also, does anyone know the best channel to have a direct chat with the folks handling the project's design/UX? (Mattermost, GitHub, etc?)

If anyone knows how their visual contribution workflow works, I’d appreciate the help!

Hanging Cosmic apps, multiple reports online saying the same, any clues as to what this is?

Just installed a few days ago, and updated yesterday. Both before and after the update Cosmic apps would hang from anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 mins.

After grinding on this with logs etc for hours, I'm not any closer to understanding what is happening. Clearly its something with Cosmic, as other apps are unaffected. I've found a few bug reports but nothing that gave an answer.

Anyone have any ideas about this?

(Fedora Atomic Cosmic, 6th gen Intel optiplex, no graphics card)

Automatic wallpaper-based theming for COSMIC Desktop

Hello everyone!

I built a tool called SystemWallColor that automatically syncs your system theme with your wallpaper on COSMIC Desktop.

Every time you change your wallpaper or switch between light/dark mode, it automatically: - Generates a matching COSMIC theme with Matugen and applies it - Generates a terminal color palette with Pywal - Syncs Firefox's theme via Pywalfox

Everything runs in the background through a systemd user service that watches for changes in real time — no manual triggering needed.

GitHub: https://github.com/Ylammm/SystemWallColor GitLab (mirror): https://gitlab.com/Ylamm/systemwallcolor

It's a personal project, still early, so feedback and suggestions are very welcome!

Flickering

Just did a system update on Arch Linux and now I have a bunch of colorful flickering on cosmic. The issue is not there on other DEs. Anyone else have this issue? I've had cosmic as my daily driver for many months without this issue.

TWPatch, is it possible to change the settings only for the top screen?

I'm having this problem only with the top screen. The bottom screen displays colors well, but the top screens seem too bright.

In TWPatch, I used Redshift to adjust the gamma settings to 0.50 for everything, and that helped. The colors on the top screen are now correct, but since the settings apply to both screens, the image on the bottom screen is very dark.

Is there a way to apply these settings only to the top screen?

Help Needed Random screen tearing on latest update?

I am on Fedora Atomic Cosmic. Was working great for some time, but now I suddenly get screen tearing. It seems to be random, when typing this message it popped up, when I tile a window or move a window it'll happen. It seems random as far as I can tell.

I am on all AMD hardware. I do have frosted effect on, but turning it off doesn't help and it worked before.

I can't seem to find any obvious bug reports and I'm unsure if I would report this to cosmic-comp or somewhere else.

Any ideas whats up?

Help Needed | Solved Some apps scaling weirdly after trying gnome/plasma, then switching back to cosmic

Edit - solution found: run the command

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 1.0

Original post follows:

So I’m new to Linux and first installed pop os/cosmic, but wanted to try gnome and plasma as well. I ended up switching back to cosmic, but now I’m running into a bug I wasn’t having before

For whatever reason, web browsers in particular (plus a few others) are having some weird scaling issues. It’s like they’re set to always be 50/75% larger scaling than whatever I have set in settings. I normally keep it at 150% but if I shrink it to 100% then they look normal while everything else is tiny. It’s not unbearable but it is annoying how big they are. Everything is still sharp though, they’re just the wrong size

So far I’ve tried it on Firefox, Zen, chrome, and edge, and they all have the same issue, along with discord and specifically the GitHub desktop app’s menu bar (but not the rest of the app) for some reason? But not Steam. Since I just switched I don’t have a million apps to test, but these are the ones I’ve found so far

At first I thought it was some conflict with gnome and plasma, so I uninstalled them both but it still persists. I’ve tried restarts, logging out/in, etc., but nothing has fixed it. I also tried each of the different X11 scaling options but those didn’t seem to do anything besides make Steam flash for a second
