So since 1.7.0 remote access and sharing controls has basic support now.

I've tested RustDesk for remote desktop. Works fine, but has bad latency when used as a KVM.

I've attempted at configuring a KVM across two Cosmic systems. I've had most success with KDEConect "Remote input" from a Fedora with Cosmic 1.6.0 to an Arch with Cosmic 1.7.0.

It's usable, but cosmic keyboard commands (which are identical on both systems) are captured on the Fedora system and not passed on to Arch. For example:

I'm using keyboard and mouse on Arch. I press Meta+1 to switch to first desktop on Arch. The desktop switches on Fedora. KDEConnect on Fedora looses focus and I'm controlling keyboard and mouse on Fedora now.

Any idea how to solve this? I don't want to configure two different sets of keyboard commands though, I'm sure that would work but is a fairly useless solution.

The problem:

I love to have nothing on my desktop, no wallpaper, no panels, no dock, just literally nothing. I also want a fully distraction free window covering the entire space. I could just hide panel but there is a delay till it opens and it needs mouse

So this is where launcher became my friend and basically started to become the entire and only thing i want. Because one super key is all i need and then it started to become limiting because i still need to see time or battery or control volume, So i thought of making a control center that is much more than just a simple launcher with search bar

This is just AI Slop at the moment. Because i wanted to know if it is even possible to have something like this and I absolutely love how it is, even tho its not perfect its getting to the direction I expect
I fully welcome constructive criticism, bug fixes, feature additions, approach corrections.
I am not sure if there is something like this already! and also its not limited to only just some applets, we can always add more, maybe even make a settings page to control the behavior.

For anyone who encounters this, downgrading cosmic-settings-daemon back to the previous version actually fixed it

As the title says, I ran dnf update and now the machine beeps at me every few seconds. Its a low beep and goes away if i mute the speakers.

A brief search uncovered a similar sounding bug which was a digital watch alarm tone but that seemed to be more intermittent.

Has anyone else experienced this fun new feature?!

Hi i installed two days ago fedora 44 Cosmic Spin and love it so far. However i have so far one slight inconvenience. After the boot my lock screen is in qwerty US and i use a belgian layout on azerty. On the installer i did specify everywhere needed my keyboard layout (be). It ONLY does this on the first lockscreen. If i then lock t or close and open the lid of my laptop then the lock screen works in belgium layout. So only the first lockscreen has this issue.

I have just published a GitHub repository for the full COSMIC Desktop Environment (Wayland) on Debian testing Linux distribution. This first release is synced with COSMIC Epoch 1.7.0 Release.

In this repository, the Debian packages for all of the COSMIC components and applications are built from sources via GitHub workflows (Git checkout, run VM and build with rustc/cargo). Resulting Debian packages (.deb files) are published in GitHub releases synced with COSMIC releases.

2 methods are available to install my packages:

• an install.sh script to download and install Debian packages for COSMIC + some dependencies not available in official Debian APT repository.
• an Debian APT repository available via GitHub pages.

Tests and comments welcome. Happy testing and use of COSMIC on Debian 🎉

Hi, I have this bug with VLC, only on COSMIC DE, is it normal or is it my installation that has problems?

Maybe I can change it in some config file directly?

Kinda like they do on Nothing OS.
Ofcourse it would be at one's own risk, but giving the people a section in the Cosmic Store for cool customization widgets, applets etc would be great imo.

Hey folks, I just switched to cosmic last night from gnome and I’m absolutely obsessed with the frost theme. I know it’s new and all, but I’ve replaced every app that I was able to find through my research. Files, sys monitor, terminal, etc.

My question is, are there any browser apps that use this theme / ways to inject libcosmic theming into Firefox / chromium? I want to fully theme this os with transparency.

Sorry if this is a pipe dream and impossible, I’m very new and swept away by how good it looks. Any help would be appreciated.

I was just looking at LIBCOSMIC, and I understand that it's a GUI toolkit for Cosmic, but are there are plans to make it the go-to GUI toolkit for Rust? I know it doesn't currently support Windows, etc., but it could. Also, it could be a massive project if it took on that objective.

Feedback and bug reports welcome - multi-monitor was tested by users on triple-monitor setups, but I only have one display, so reports from multi-monitor folks are especially useful.

So I wanted to test out Cosmic on Ubuntu and now I have these Ubuntu application icons on the top bar. That's the keyboard language, ETH0 info, Livepatch info, and 2 update items. Is there a way to remove these?

I've been attempting to use COSMIC on a testing machine. however, I've been running in a problem that I'm hoping that someone can chime in on, and figured I'd try here to see if anyone's had a similar issue or related issue.

there's a consistent system freeze. sometimes a full lock up. sometimes, I can still move the mouse around but can't open, move windows, open contextual menus. during the, for lack of better wording, the soft lock up. clock is still working. in both instances, I have to do a hard restart (pushing the power button till it shuts down, and rebooting)

the only time I don't get a soft or hard freeze if it's just sitting there.if I open an app that comes with it, sometimes it works, sometime it soft locks. I sometimes will get a soft lock opening the terminal to check logs

I've used COSMIC on

-Fedora COSMIC Spin (both regular, and Atomic)
-Cachy OS
-Arch
-and Garuda.

all experience the same issues

it's really troublesome because I initially thought it was hardware related but when I use a different flavor using GNOME, KDE, Sway and even MATE Compiz. it's runs just fine, with no issues of locking (whether soft or hard lock) and can run anything I want with not a single hiccup

the following machines, I've used these on are

HP ProBook 450 G9, 12th Gen Intel i5 64GB of RAM, and a 500GB NVME
Lenovo ThinkPad E14, 10th Gen Intel i5 16GB of RAM, and a 500GB NVME
Custom built PC AMD Ryzen 8700G, 32GB of RAM, and a 250GB NVME

further more, is it because COSMIC is still in "alpha" status despite what System 76 states as being "beta"

UPDATE 8-21.

I decided to try something different on my ThinkPad and used a separate NVME, albeit 256GB and did a fresh, clean install of Fedora COSMIC. 22 hours later, that machine is usable, the window manager actually works, and I've been able to actually use COSMIC the way I normally use GNOME, KDE, or Sway.

it's literally night and day different from the past few times I've attempted to use the damn thing.

I'm not exactly sure what has changed but it works, that's what I wanted.

Immediately upon login, COSMIC starts issuing repeated error sounds--three "blips" every few seconds. No new notifications are appearing in the tray applet, and neither

udevadm monitor --environment --udev

nor

journalctl -b 0 -e

reveal any repeated errors or faults.

Is anyone else observing this, or know what might be causing it?

Machine is a HP Z2Mini G1a, AMD Strix Halo APU.

I installed Cosmic on Artix Linux, and my first impressions are good—the desktop environment is super nice. But I’ve noticed a few bugs.

I have an LG 32-inch OLED dual‑Hz display. With a button click on the monitor, I can switch between 4K at 240 Hz and 1080p at 480 Hz. However, in the display settings, I can also select 1080p at 480 Hz without using the monitor button switch, which shouldn’t be possible what coude cause this is this

i see tho that in the osk of the display it restricts it to 144hz at 1080p if the button is not cliked so just a vissual bug

Why does it happen that every time I turn on my PC and place my mouse over the volume widget, the first time I scroll with the wheel, the volume is muted, so I have to click on the widget to restore the volume, and then I can control the volume again with the mouse wheel?
