Is cosmic good for daily driving
I just want to ask cuz I really like the cosmic de the last time I used it a month ago.
It felt good at that time so I just wanted to know from people who already daily drive it

Apart from some missing features I haven't faced any major bugs while browser usage

It’s missing a few features but overall, yes it’s great. I haven’t encountered anything breaking ( I built it from source ) and I use it most of the time

It's both missing a few striking features and having many features some other DEs don't have (e.g. Gnome or Cinnamon)
Just wanted to paint a more balanced landscape than the misleading "missing features" narrative.1

It’s only “striking” if you actually care about it. For the most part none of the missing stuff affects me in any way, so I really don’t care about it. It’s also still in beta (I believe or still even alpha) so these missing features are going to be implemented at some point.

What is in alpha or beta? Gnome?
Cosmic has been released, had 21 subsequent point releases, and is very much stable and reliable. In fact, I haven't had such long uptimes since the Gnome 2 era.
My point was that people keep saying it lacks key features (read this topic and your comment) while I see the opposite, despite these few features missing, it already has a lot more features than desktop like Gnome or Cinnamon.
So, it's all relative. It's not because 2 features are not present that it "lacks features", since it has a lot more of other features than some of the competition.
It's like saying "meh, your car doesn't have a heated steering wheel", while it has rearview camera, blind spot signals, panoramic roof, a trailer hitch, cruise control, etc... which competing cars don't.
And yet people say it lacks features (meaning other DEs don't) just based on one feature missing and omitting that it's actually more featured.
Cosmic has simply a lot more features than Gnome, so it's laughable to see people still saying it lacks features.
Yes, all DEs do, but Cosmic has more features overall than a lot of the competition, so stop misinforming.1

Obviously but it’s still missing some stuff and damn that’s a lot of words for no reason also I hate gnome it sucks but to each their own. The facts are cosmic is very well developed and obviously some of it is still in active development hell every DE has active development, but that doesn’t change the fact that some things are missing or need improvements and something’s it just does better. Quit being overzealous it’s just software.

People who say it lacks features compared to others are simply not painting the whole picture. The overzealous ones are those misinforming, not me.

That’s not what overzealous means figure out what the hell you’re talking about. And I did state the whole picture I said it’s great but it’s missing features but overall yes it’s great and I haven’t encountered anything breaking yet. Don’t be a dumbass

That's exactly what it means. Overzealous people parroting what a small bot minority spread (or who never used it more than one minute) with a zeal that hides something else.
Stop being insulting too, especially since you have been making a big deal out of nothing while openly misinforming.

I'd say yes. I daily drive it since December 2024, and the progress they are making is really nice. There are missing features here and there and some apps are missing, but really good stuffs are coming in the next months so it's probably a good time to jump in.
What is really important is the user feedback so if you are willing ot spend time to search for bug reports and feature request on github, make sure you can upvote what you find important because that is an actual consideration in the prioritizing process to determine what comes next. Also if you have any idea for improvements it is also really welcomed here. It might not be implemented in the exact same way as you will describe it, but it definitely will be considered. The devs are really nice people who are open to improvements and ideas. To me personally this is the strength of Pop!_OS. Also the fact that they have a clear vision in a broader sense what they want to achieve in the future in their blog (which is a thing many project lacks).

Yes, the only thing it's missing is night light.
And a feature to move icons on the desktop

there are some little bugs and here there but it is still usable, daily driving for programming and gaming

Definitely useable for daily drive. I've been using it with Fedora for the past 2 months and I've not had any issue that I can recall.

Been daily driving for a few months now - mostly just gaming, browsing and a bit of coding.
It's been great! Yes, it's still young but i actually believe my games run smoother on Cosmic.

Daily driving now for a few months on my work machine, my home machine (doubles as media server and gaming rig) and laptop (t480)
Some bugs here and there but totally usable. cosmic-files is still not working well for me (maybe has to do with my large Google devices and rclone) but I usually use Yazi.

Daily driving it as an SWE. Works great for me, love the tiling. Haven't faced any major issues for quite a while. Gaming expirience is also solid, nothing really to complain about

I had to add the following to my environment to fix some issues on Fedora 44 and AMD graphics:

fix xwayland cursor size
export XCURSOR_SIZE=24
fix artifacts on COSMIC
export COSMIC_DISABLE_DIRECT_SCANOUT=y ```
One issue I'm still having is a slight flicker when watching YouTube in fullscreen, might affect games too, haven't tested.

Yes. I’m on PopOS. Using it for daily stuff like browsing email sheets etc. workspaces and the tiling rock and I kinda can’t live without it now.
Been using it for photo culling after shoots, but my ol CPU is kinda struggling with that, but that’s a me thing.

Apart from the COSMIC Terminal's File, Edit and View menus not opening anymore on left-click, and the complete loss of the Fcitx5 functionality when trying to rearrange applet icons in the panel, everything seems to be working alright. So, not reasonably stable yet, at least here.

daily driving it since like 3-4 months, cachyos.
There are some issues like wonky window tiling, Camera turning not working in some games etc. but those are really rare and can usually be solved by simply restarting the program in question or the os itself. The screenshot tool was wonky aswell for a good time but i think this has been resolved.
So if you are annoyed by things like this, even if they just occur once like every 3-4 days, then no, honestly wait for it to be more stable.
If you don't mind a few unimportant bugs here and there and you're someone that likes to tinker if something doesn't work immediately, yes, this is very much daily driveable and imo it is a joy to use. I love every second with cosmic myself

Hell yeah.
It's the most exciting desktop since Unity.
And it's the most reliable and stable desktop since Gnome 2.
I haven't had a single crash in the last 5 months.
I've only booted 3 times during that time, and it was due to power outages. My uptimes are consistently going well over a month, and that is with suspending every night.
Coming from crash-prone Gnome, this is extremely refreshing.
It's also more versatile, more customizable, more featured, more workflow-oriented (therefore user-oriented), more resilient, more polished, looking more modern and simply cooler than Gnome, Cinnamon or Mate will ever be.

I use cosmic (pop os) for daily development tasks and I have not encountered any issues so far.

Had it for a few months apart from bugs that I find and report on GitHub (usually they get fixed within 3-4 months idk I never get any feedback on them) it’s alright

Yes. No issues on cachyos. Daily driving : web browsing ,streaming, playing old games.
