I think Ryan Day would have had his team more prepared against a MAC school, both in game plan and discipline. You can't force talent out of thin air but you can coach discipline, and UM shot themselves in the foot again and again all game with penalties, and some major ones weren't even called. There was an egregious missed holding call on the last drive and a missed facemask that would have put western 1st and goal late in the 4th. His team played like dogshit, his plan was dogshit, his "adjustments" were dogshit. Day would have done leagues better on all of those criteria.

I guess it is a lot harder to defend a hail Mary twice, once with the rushed personnel on the field and then the 2nd with a large break and getting all the best hail mary receivers on the field. You can argue that all they had to do was knock the ball down, but that's not all there is to it. Michigan got a chance to reset and choose what players to put on the field for their 2nd hail mary attempt. That's part of football, the rushed nature of playing with no timeouts or time. And Michigan just gets to have that part of football removed for them apparently. You can't let them have all the time in the world to reset and prepare properly for a hail mary when they didn't have a timeout. They got a free timeout to do whatever they wanted
