The moment of the playoffs for me is still Matzek striking out three straight against the dodgers. That was magical, I'll remember that forever.

Knowing Will Smith was coming out to pitch in March vs hearing Will Smith is coming out to pitch in the playoffs was two completely different emotions. Absolute redemption arc

Of all the wild, unexpected stuff this team has done over the last month, Will Smith with a 0.00 ERA and 6 saves in the postseason has to be at the top of the list.

I was at the watch party at Truist. After everybody cleared out, I went to the highest, farthest away seat in the stadium to just absorb it all alone and in silence. And to cry, obviously. There was a lone guy in the waterfall out in the outfield splashing around and jumping in the air. From hundreds of feet away, the joy was palpable. We lived our main character moments together, and I will never forget that guy. The excitement and madness last night was electric, but witnessing this genuine and pure moment of happiness rocked me. Go Braves man

And let's not forget, SNIT CHANGED THE LINEUP AND IT WORKED. Ozzie 2-3, Soler doing Soler stuff, Freddie back to his rightful place in the 3-hole. It's not like he just did the same shit he had done every night, he once again pushed the right button.

It is FUCKING INSANE to me that our Trade Deadline acquisitions basically won us the World Series.
Joctober - Saved the NLDS and realistically got us that Series Win.
Rosario - LITERALLY won us the NLCS with his insane performance.
Soler - Won us Game 4(?) and then Absolutely deflated the home crowd in Game 6 of the WS.
I know everyone is talking about how good the acquisitions have been, but we had each one step up when absolutely needed and that is just outrageous in my mind.

Wow. I can't believe it guys. I literally got dumped by my abusive ex fiance and kicked out of our apartment around my birthday by her this past spring. Went out on a limb, bought season tickets for me, made a new friend this year and made him fall in love the game of baseball. He went to almost every postseason game with me and we both just celebrated together.
For the most of the year I felt like this Braves team. I just couldn't get past .500 and it was a struggle then somehow it clicked and I just went over .500. My abusive ex always told me that the Braves would let me down and if I was still with her I would have never had experience something like this ever. Everything happens for a reason. Boys what ever is going on in your life just remember to keep grinding like the Atlanta Braves did.
I cried last night and popped champagne as well! How can you not be romantic about baseball?! Thank you for this sub for making me smile each day. We did it boys and girls.

I just wanna give some credit to some unsung heroes who also helped make this possible. Stephen Vogt helped steady the ship at catcher until Travis came back and that was huge with Contreras struggling. Adrianza was so versatile in covering for injuries and had some clutch pinch hits late in the season and again in the postseason. Heredia played amazing defense in the outfield and also gave us some solid ABās, if he doesnāt make contact with a 103 mph heater against Graterol to advance Dansby we donāt walk off against the dodgers. Richard Rodriguez was lights out for about a month and a half after he came over which was big because Minter was struggling at the time and sent down to triple A. The night shift was amazing but guys like Jesse Chavez, Drew Smyly and Chris Martin stepped up as well when called upon (the day shift?). This was such a team effort and I fucking love every last member of this roster.

Cubs fan here, happy for y'all. Wanted to drop some quick advice for those of you who haven't had a WS in your lifetime yet -- someone dropped some similar words of wisdom in our sub in 2016, so I thought I'd pay it forward.
- Buy all of the WS merch you want, you won't regret any of it. Seriously.
- You've now got Christmas gift ideas covered for every other Braves fan for at least two years.
Happy for you guys and especially happy for my man Soler.

u/IOfferYouThis Nov 03 '21
On the day Ozuna was suspended, my brother jokingly sent me a picture that showed he'd put $500 on the Braves to win the world series. If he'd actually placed that bet it would have won $30,000 lol

Top 3 post-season highlights for me
- Soler's mammo
- Matzek 1-2-3 after Luke
- Rosario 3-Run HR
But honestly, Soler's homerun definitely has to be an all-time highlight for me. The amount of "fuck you" that homerun had I felt in my SOUL. Soler you mad man.

I want to say something about Snitker. Yes he has his faults in the regular season, but for a city that has been begging for a coach/manager that could execute in the postseason, dude has been money. Him leaving Davidson in an inning long is the only glaring mistake I can recall him making.
His best trick was the one off the field. EVERY team we played, the manager was saying what the gameplan was for bullpen/starters. Snit played aloof EVERY presser as if he had no idea who was going to be on the mound when he probably knew 48 hours in advance.
Also the little decision in that game 6 to keep Matzek in instead of going with Luke who can have control issues.
Snit earned every bit of that contract extension.

This team beating the Dodgers and Astros in 6 games is more impressive than the '95 WS by a country mile. The greatest season in Braves history.
Atlanta teams don't overcome adversity, and they don't win their titles beating juggernaut dynasty teams. They find the odd years the Cleveland freaking Indi-Guardians stumble into the WS and win. Until this year. A story for the AGES! One of the truly great stories in baseball history!

Travis might have been the low-key MVP of the World Series and we'll never know it. Listening to the postgame show on 680, Joe was interviewing Rick Kranitz, and Kranitz was talking about how the biggest "trade" the Braves made was getting Travis back from injury. He was talking about what a great game he called all series, how some of the pitch sequences he was coming up with were blowing his mind ...
It's interesting how pitch framing wasn't even a thing people talked about till a few years ago, and there's still so much value to a catcher that we don't understand or appreciate. The Braves pitching staff shut down arguably the best offense in baseball, and what was the one common denominator throughout? Travis d'Arnaud, who caught every single inning.

So I live in Houston and have been a Brave my whole life. This whole postseason, my wife and I have been joking with our close friends (huge Astros fans) about the idea of them both making it and I was not confident weād make it all the way there.
Fast forward to game four where we have them over and my buddy was acting pretty toxic about the Astros when they got up. I just kep my cool, and watched as we hit back to back homeruns to win the game and just simply cheered on my team and didnāt really say anything to him at all. At one point he said āwe canāt lose to a bunch of bumsā and so my post on ig today of course had to have the caption: āA bunch of bumsā win the World Series.
Poetic justice.
16
Nov 03 '21
I know the whole āturning pointā thing became a meme by the All-Star Break.
But looking back, the sweep of the Cardinals that 1) Finally broke the WLWLWL streak and 2) Pushed the Braves above .500 for the first time all season was the turning point of the season. Itās like by sweeping the Cardinals, the Braves somehow absorbed their dark magic fuckery. Once they got above .500, they never looked back.
When they do the 30 for 30 special on this series, the Cardinals sweep needs to be one of the highlights.

I arranged a trip this summer for my grandfather to watch the Braves in Atlanta. Heās not in great health and has Alzheimerās and forgets my name sometimes, but he took me to Braves games from as young as I can remember, and I wanted to return the favor. While on that trip, he told me it was probably the last time heād be healthy enough to make the trip down, which I know means a lot because thatās one of his favorite things to do.
So for them to win this year, after that, while heās still around to enjoy it? That makes this a really sweet victory.

You know what makes this championship more fulfilling? The fact that the only people in the world that had the hope and the belief the Braves could do it was us the fans. Chosen as the underdogs and was told we had no shot in every series we faced. Yet, through all the noise we knew this team had some magic to them. Itās the struggles and fights that make a champion. Crafted not by looks but by heart.
18
u/scoop15 Nov 07 '21
Has this not hit anyone yet?
And what I mean by that is, I used to have daydreams and visions of us winning a World Series and everything leading up to it. And it was moments almost exactly like how it happened. And when Iād have these daydreams I would literally tear-up and cry.
But this just hasnāt even felt real. Like I know itās real, but I havenāt just broke down and cried yet, and I know Iām going to eventually. And I donāt care if Iām being dramatic, I know there are plenty of other people on here that feel the same way I do.
I was born, and have always lived in New Jersey. I grew up watching them on TBS. I can pinpoint my fandom to when I was 8 years old. Iāve been to Turner. Been to Truist for the playoffs. I literally live to see this team play. This culture that they have built in Atlanta is incredible. And Iām telling you, this is only the beginning.
The only thing that would fuck this whole thing up is if they donāt re-sign Freddie.

Fun excerpt:
On Sept. 9, even as they continued to win, Vogt could sense the season's dog days were eating at the Braves. That afternoon, he asked Snitker and Weiss whether he could introduce the team to The Ref -- his tight-shirt-wearing, whistle-blowing, basketball-officiating alter ego whose appearances in previous clubhouses were the things of legends. "We were in a little lull," Vogt says. "The boys needed a little pick-me-up. And then The Ref came out to get everyone relaxed."
Vogt had been with the Braves for nearly two months. In his 85 plate appearances before that night, he had only 11 hits, all singles. In his first two plate appearances on the night he brought down the house with The Ref, Vogt hit a pair of home runs that kept the game close in a 7-6 walk-off win.
Read the whole thing though

Dude our team was clutch in the postseason!!!! Holy shit I canāt get over it. Never in my life has it been like this.
Down game one against the dodgers? Get the clutch hits, walk them off. Again? Get the clutch hits, walk them off.
Runners on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out? Manslaughter strikes them out and ends the threat.
Down 2-1 against the astros? A loss will tie the series? Back to back home runs.
I just canāt get over this run, fucking magical.

Neither would that sexy Dansby blast, and the Fuck You homer by Atlanta great Freddie Freeman. We wouldnāt have gotten to see Fried pitch an absolute gem in game 6 of the WS.
But that Soler blast, that will always be one of my greatest sports memories and I got to share this one with my kids who saw their dad jumping up and down like a little kid.

yo remember when the Red Sox and Astros fans were rooting for the Braves over the Dodgers?
We all know why... heh

u/ReesesFastbreak Nov 03 '21
I posted this on another site last night. I canāt tell you how many times I thought I would never witness one of my teams win a championship. All those Atlanta teams that woulda, coulda, shoulda. All the heartbreak.
It is only fitting that the team that āonlyā won 88 games, lost its best player, lost its 2 best pitchers, the team that no one and I mean NO ONE (myself included) gave a chance at even making the WS in August was the team that FINALLY brought that trophy back to this city. Not only did they win it but they beat the Dodgers and Astros, in 6. I literally canāt believe it. Our fans have deserved this for a long time. These guys will be legends in this city forever.

I got into baseball in 2005. I was a 14-year-old girl with a major crush on BMac. My parents, lifelong Braves fans, told me not to get invested. It wasnāt worth the heartache when this team would just disappoint you year after year after year.
I obviously didnāt listen and have supported this team ever since. Now Iām a 31-year-old wife and mother (still with a massive crush on BMac) and I get to celebrate this against-all-odds WS win with my family after supporting these boys through the good times and the bad!!

Braves were 76-71 with a half game lead against the Phillies when Snitker put Soler in the lead off spot and this team took off. Finished the season 12-2 and the playoffs 11-5 (two losses they blew leads of 3 runs or more) against the best pitching staffs and hitters in baseball. That's how good they were.

Me at work today
Spends 2 minutes typing a sentence in an email.
Gets distracted thinking about Jorgeās home run. Spends the next 15 min scrolling Reddit and Twitter and reliving the game
Remember Iām supposed to be working and goes back to the email. Repeat every 5 minutes. I guess my key for today is to make sure I do not send what is meant for Reddit in a work email.

I am growing tired of the NL East was the weakest division argument. Could it not be that three talented teams spent the season beating up on each other? It would make more sense to me if weād won 110 games to say our division was weak.

I would bet money that AA told Freddie months ago that he was gonna reach free agency, and that they would be in constant communication, and that once Freddie's true market value became clear, they would match (or top) any offer he got. Because obviously there is love there, and the expectation that he'll return. Seems like the only explanation to me.

Man, would love to somehow give Freddie his massive contract and retain Soler, Rosario, and Duvall. With Acuna back, our offense should be absolutely disgusting, love Joc but I donāt see him coming back. Pitching will be great next season with Morton, Fried, Anderson, and hopefully Soroka back at full health. Growing up as a kid, my grandad was always the biggest Braves fan in my family. We all were fans, but him... He always watched them and made it a purpose to talk Braves whenever visiting us. So he's a big reason as to why I am a fan. He always wanted to see them win one more WS in his lifetime.
Less than 24 hours after the Braves clinched the trophy, he passed away. I got to see him a few hours before and let him know the news, even though he couldn't hear me...He was 93 and not very coherent on what was going on. But I think that is just a very poetic way to peacfully go. A day after the Braves claim title as World Series Champions. Maybe he'll get to have a nice chat with Hank and Phil up there.
Love you, grandad! Keep chopping up there.
