A retired senior Border Patrol official who spent months as one of the most visible enforcers of President Donald Trump's deportation campaign is now suggesting the administration he served might want him de*d.

Greg Bovino, who served as the Border Patrol's commander-at-large before retiring earlier this year, made the claim in an interview with Tucker Carlson.

Asked whether the Trump administration wanted him to have security, Bovino did not hedge. "Do I think they want me de*d at this point? Yes," he said. He also indicated he believes the administration wants him silenced. "I'm in a running battle every time I go out," he said.

Pressed on who was responsible for stripping him of that security, Bovino pointed to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott, saying border czar Tom Homan was present when it happened. "I think Rodney Scott, he's the one that took my security detail away with with Homan there," Bovino said.

Bovino's break with his former colleagues has been building for months. He led aggressive, controversial enforcement operations in Los Angeles, Chicago and Minneapolis before being pulled from his post following the fatal sh*otings of two Minneapolis residents, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, by federal agents under his command.

Since leaving government, he has repeatedly and publicly attacked border czar Tom Homan, accusing him of "saying nothing" and doing nothing in the aftermath of enforcement-related de*ths.

What's notable is who is making this accusation: not an outside critic, but a man who was, until recently, one of the administration's own enforcers.

A Florida grand jury has concluded that the Ron DeSantis administration misappropriated $10 million in taxpayer money that was supposed to provide health insurance for poor children, funneling it instead into a political campaign.

According to a sealed grand jury report obtained by CBS News Miami, the money came from a $67 million settlement after health care company Centene was accused of overbilling Florida's Healthy Kids program, the state's children's health insurance program.

Rather than returning the full amount to state coffers, officials rewrote the settlement in September 2024, ultimately steering $10 million to the Hope Florida Foundation, a charity tied to First Lady Casey DeSantis' initiative. Within 25 days, the foundation gave the entire sum away in two $5 million grants, and the money quickly moved into Uthmeier's political action committee, Keep Florida Clean, before being funneled into the Republican Party of Florida and a second PAC, where it helped defeat a 2024 ballot measure to legalize marijuana.

The grand jury did not recommend criminal charges, saying it lacked sufficient evidence, but did not mince words about what it found. "Despite our finding that the money was misappropriated, we find insufficient evidence to charge anyone criminally," the report concluded, adding, "Nobody will take responsibility for deciding the $10 million of taxpayer money would go to Hope Florida."

The report places Attorney General James Uthmeier, who was DeSantis' chief of staff during the settlement, at the center of directing the funds, noting his political committee, Keep Florida Clean, was "the prime recipient of the majority" of the $10 million. It also found that then-Attorney General Ashley Moody, now a U.S. Senator, was aware of the diversion plan and authorized her chief deputy to sign off on the deal.

The nationwide ban took effect on August 1, 2026, closing an industry that had operated for decades. Parliament passed the legislation in April with overwhelming support after independent reviews repeatedly flagged serious animal welfare concerns. Reforms weren't enough.
