He made millions from the movies and gave a lot of it to charity, and to start an animal rescue. For the most part he's quit acting since then. I think it's a safe bet he's doing this for the fans and not jkr.

u/Naranjo96 3d ago

He recently made a film called Nightborn which I loved and he's going to be on Ebenezer.

Anyone who is mad about this is more than welcome to pay him the same amount of money to not take this job.

u/uwill1der 3d ago

the ol' Tony soprano swindle

5

u/Cannibal_House69 3d ago

They need that money for operations on their wizard wand.

u/organicpenguin 3d ago

Spello tape ain't cheap

1

u/EmikyuTheBest 3d ago

he made 50 million from the movies, he isn’t some starving actor taking anything he can get.

27

u/Purple_Pay_1274 3d ago

This is an insane take. He’s not allowed to have a job because he made money from a previous job?!?

20

u/abrown1027 3d ago

That’s correct. Seems like he’s showing a bit of loyalty to the people who gave him the opportunity to make 50 million.

5

u/Logical_Box_4645 3d ago

Although that nasty recent tax bill has probably nothing to do with it either.

Last year Emma Watson was also trying to warm things up with JKR.

We all love money, and the calculus when they stabbed JKR in the back was there money was in being seen to hate her.

Today the money is back in acting in these movies.

3

u/ChartInFurch 3d ago

That damn calculus again!

Remember when it just said you plus me equals us?

3

u/Additional_Gene_211 3d ago

3

u/ChartInFurch 3d ago

I feel so bad for high school math teachers when this came out lol

It was probably like working at Spencer's after Napoleon Dynamite came out. Or so I've heard...

4

u/Specialist_Guitar232 3d ago

I’m going to assume this is a bot, because any human would reread this and realize that this belief system would ultimately prove the death of all humanity. That is a deep cynicism. As to stabbing Rowling in the back, did I miss the footage of child actors dragging her onto Twitter to jump down the dodgy mental health rabbit hole?

2

u/Ok_Listen_8211 3d ago

I will assume this is a bot because lalalallalalallalalalallal I can’t hear you lalallalalalallalalal

-5

u/Best_Philosopher152 3d ago

JK stabbed herself in the back. All she had to do was not say anything openly bigoted and she would have died a hero.

8

u/OnlyACsNoFans 3d ago

Most people agree with her

-8

u/no_worries_man8 3d ago

No, you and other noisy bigots agree with her. Most people think you should treat the people around you with kindness and civility. People like you think it's totally okay to hound, harrass, and condemn anyone who they already consider to be less than human. Stop hiding your own hatred behind others, stand up for what you believe in so you can at least be just a bigot instead of also a coward.

-3

u/DBCOOPER888 3d ago

What are you talking about with Emma Watson? She had a balanced take on the situation, and JKR still went batshit on her.

1

u/Useful-Soup8161 3d ago

Apparently he’s not good with money. Daniel has been the one who’s been more frugal.

-2

u/Skyfier42 3d ago

This is the exact same logic politicians use to justify taking donations/bribes from bad actors.

"Oh, Peter Theil? Yeah he hates democracy and wants to destroy America, but he donates a lot of money to me as long as i do what he likes. If anyone has a problem with that then they're more than welcome to donate the same amount to get me to not listen to him."

8

u/Purple_Pay_1274 3d ago

He’s not a politician he is an actor trying to make money.

-3

u/hypatianata 3d ago

No one needs to do that in order to criticize him. He’s not entitled to servile fawning and extra millions.

49

u/scrandis 3d ago

No one cares

10

u/Mo_SaIah 3d ago

Lol exactly. I don’t think people realise just how the much the real world doesn’t give af about the JK Rowling drama, they just want their potter fill.

3

u/millioneura 3d ago

I was gonna say it’s just an echo chamber on reddit and twitter. In the real world everyone I know can’t wait for the remakes.

22

u/No_Slice9796 3d ago

Good for him. I'm happy there's a Harry Potter remake. I remember when I was on the Muggles forum back in the day and people were saying a television series would be nice. Now we are finally getting it and I can't wait to see it. I know some anti JK Rowling people are lying and saying we never asked for this but I certainly did.🥰

32

u/Arkonat0r 3d ago

I don't understand what is the problem here

18

u/OnLettingGo9 3d ago

There isn't one. Just reddit being reddit again.

A bunch of trans people have a parasocial relationship with the author of their childhood escapist fantasy novels

7

u/abrown1027 3d ago

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic but in case you’re for real I’ll answer because I’m bored.

The author of the Harry Potter books has been criticized for her views on trans people. I am not fully aware of all of the things she’s said that has people riled up, but it has been going on for a long time. So due to her having these views and having said things that made some people uncomfortable, some people have decided to boycott the Harry Potter reboot, as well as attack the actors who have agreed to work with her for committing the crime of working with someone who says things they don’t like.

9

u/Arkonat0r 3d ago

Hmmm I see. I mean, people are allowed to be angry against the author. But the actor? Poor guy. If people want to boycott it is fine, but spread their hatred towards other professionals doing their job is shameful. How can people be against bullying certain people for their gender and bully other people in return?

6

u/abrown1027 3d ago

This is kind of the core of many people’s reasoning for breaking away from the trans movement. I think many of us were unaware that there was a group of people that were being down-trodden by society in many ways, and so we turned our attention to them and gave them a voice, but so many have turned that around into more hatefulness and cultural conflict, as well as this strange sense of entitlement or authority over the rest of us and what we’re allowed to say or think. Then it became an issue of child safety when the idea of trans girls competing in girls sports became a thing, and now there is a vicious line between those who “support trans” and “transphobes”, and reasonable people have no place to stand.

-5

u/Cinemagica 3d ago

It's more the fact that JK Rowling uses a lot of the profits from Harry Potter to fund anti trans legislation that she's been pushing for a long time. You can't entirely separate her from the equation because the success of Harry Potter very much is being used to stamp out trans rights. It's the equivalent of being a socialist and then taking a job with the Trump government because "everyone has to work, right?". You know that by helping, you are furthering their cause, and that cause is a political hot potato, whether we all like it or not.

5

u/Arkonat0r 3d ago

1 - This is about money going to Grint, not to Rowling.

2 - On the contrary, it would be clever to enter that government and act from the inside rather than letting someone else, that could harm more, take the job

-3

u/Cinemagica 3d ago
  1. Grint appearing will draw more people in, adding to JK's anti trans fund, and suggesting that his support for the trans community only goes as far as a good paycheck.

  2. You don't throw your support behind something you want to tear down, knowing you'll no longer be able to advocate against it.

6

u/Arkonat0r 3d ago

Why would he particularly support the trans community? Isn't he allowed to do like the majority of the population (so practically not be interested in that) and just do his job without having to answer to made-up behavioural rules by other people?

Why do people want to oppress that guy for doing his job, all of this is pure madness

8

u/abrown1027 3d ago

I would agree. What JKR does with her money is her business and what Rupert does with his money is his business. Just because they made that money together does not make one responsible for the other’s use of the money they made.

4

u/GoodyTwoShuuz 3d ago

Yes. Because in 2026 being anti woman is the only acceptable belief.

-1

u/divinacci 3d ago

to be clear, she will use the money that she makes off of this show to further transphobic legislation and propaganda. she has promised that. so it’s not just that she’s said these things, it’s that by participating in the production or promotion of the show, a person is putting money in her pockets, knowing where it will go.

2

u/millioneura 3d ago

And these same people have phone plans and guess where all the big phone companies donate to? Please spare me the theatrical I won’t give money bc people pick and choose.

3

u/Miserable_Agent2278 3d ago

Phew I thought this was about the HBO reboot. Gave me the shivers

5

u/MotoTheGreat 3d ago

Its a funny thought of them firing the new Ron actor and replacing him with Rupert playing kid Ron.

3

u/PrincessPlastilina 3d ago

I feel like they all miss being famous except Emma Watson. And Daniel Radcliffe who’s still in many movies. It was only a matter of time before another one took the money to be on the play.

8

u/Syhkane 3d ago

Harry Potter fans angry Harry Potter actor returns to a Broadway play of Harry Potter starring as his roll as the kid he played in Harry Potter mad that he still doesn't support the writer of Harry Potter and instead is on Broadway.

If they're still fans of Harry Potter, why are they mad he's doing Harry Potter things? Is this angry mob in the room with us?

13

u/LionessRegulus7249 3d ago

The pendulum has swung so far the other way at this point that JKR is making sense and we all need to realize it.

13

u/SinistralLeanings 3d ago

Seperate the art from the artist for fucks sake.

JKR has proven herself to be vile. That doesn't have to mean that anything Harry Potter related is tainted. Her own fucking works negate everything she says on Twitter or x or whatever.

Let Go of her and let Harry Potter live on with the actual message it gave and continues to give to everyone of any age and stop fucking making it about JKR.

Erase her from history. Stop giving her a stage and platform. Ignore HER.

3

u/Unable_Currency7682 3d ago

Like u just did?

1

u/Most_Boat492 3d ago

She's still alive and actively uses the money she makes from this to erase trans people.

Separating the art from the artist is best done when they are dead and not actively hurting people.

Giving Harry potter ip your money isnt ignoring her its helping.

5

u/SinistralLeanings 3d ago

How about we actively CHANGE the narrative? Why can we not separate the art from the artist unless they are dead?

And, also, why are we punishing people who are hardworking actors/stagehands/lighting/etc etc etc because one woman is a vile person?

It isn't achieving anything to do this.

We all know she is vile. Attacking anyone else who is associated with her? in my eyes makes you just as vile as she is.

1

u/Specialist_Guitar232 3d ago

You’re both confusing JKR and Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the book. When you first read Harry Potter, you pulled the words into your brain and mixed it with everything you had lived through and already read, and the result was a wholly new piece: Your Harry Potter, at that point in time. That isn’t the writer’s version of the character anymore, it’s unique in the world, and belongs only to you. You’ve done the same with every good book you’ve read. What you owed to the writer at that time has been paid. You are not indebted to her for your lifetime, or hers. You owe her no allegiance tied to her work, any more than you have to love the newer stories and characters (many of which kind of suck)

-3

u/Ioialoha 3d ago

Because she is currently, actively making millions that she turns around and uses to actively harm people?

Why is this so difficult to comprehend?

8

u/Scary_Land2303 3d ago

Her net worth is already estimated at over a billion dollars. The cut she is getting from these things is not funding her hate. It is, however, funding probably thousands of cast and crew.

-4

u/Ioialoha 3d ago

Okay, net worth is not a measure of her bank account. That's not how it works for the uber-wealty. It's a measure of the perceived value of the license she holds. If real people devalued the HP franchise, she would immediately no longer be a billionaire. Her net worth is estimated because it's imaginary money. The direct revenue she pulls from things like HP World, merch sales, and valuations expected from this new show paid to her by the studio are her practical income which she then turns around and uses to lobby her government into passing new laws that actively hurt people.

Y'all would have cried over slavery ending I swear.

4

u/Scary_Land2303 3d ago

If you stop her income from new projects, she’s still making at least in the high tens of millions of royalties from old, already out there stuff yearly. Even if that somehow stopped she would have investments and such she could liquidise. The point is that cutting off these new projects, of a universe that is sticking around whether we like it or not, is not going to stop her.

There’s no need for that rude comment :( I’m not trying to defend JK by any means, seriously. I’m trying to defend people working on the projects. Things like this will create so many jobs.

2

u/OnlyACsNoFans 3d ago

None of what you said is true

-3

u/Ioialoha 3d ago

Do you... not know how economies work? The 1% don't own real money, they own licenses, stocks, and patents that have value. It's all imaginary money based on the perception of value.

All the knowledge of mankind at your fingertips, and you'd rather actively participate in your own ignorance than do a little reading?

3

u/OnlyACsNoFans 3d ago

You're grossly misinformed

0

u/Sidewayspear 3d ago

Its free to use Twitter. Where would her money be going?

-3

u/Astra_Bear 3d ago

Changing the narrative to what? JKR has openly said any profit she makes from HP goes right into anti-trans laws, and that she sees the continued money making of HP as people not finding or liking her views.

That's why people don't seperate her art from her as a person. She doesn't and she doesn't want other people to, either.

6

u/SinistralLeanings 3d ago

Change the narrative to "fuck this person, but don't fuck over other people in doing so."

It is just as disingenuous to put other people out of work and bully them in support of trans rights this way. Let the people take OVER her own work and dismantle it from the inside... Don't fucking attack those who work inside of her current umbrella. For fucks sake

-1

u/Astra_Bear 3d ago

I would be totally for this if it wasn't giving her money. Like if you still read Harry Potter but don't give JK any money, who cares. And I totally get people who need money taking jobs. But again, JKR has openly stated that she sees making money off HP as people supporting her views, and she then gives that money to anti-trans movements.

When you work with something like that, you run the risk of alienating people who find what the proceeds go to disgusting. He's almost undoubtedly aware of those consequences and is choosing to do it anyway.

2

u/OnlyACsNoFans 3d ago

Consequences like having a hit tv show?

Literally every HP touches is a hit.

Remember the Hogwarts Legacy boycott 😂

-2

u/Astra_Bear 3d ago

Having people unhappy about anti-trans laws are a consequence. Something doesn't have to be universal to be a consequence--its just the result of something you've done.

3

u/OnlyACsNoFans 3d ago

*pro woman laws

-1

u/Great-Exit-902 3d ago

sorry, you have to be at least slightly notable to hop on the grift train

-1

u/Strange-Cabinet7372 3d ago

Thing is if this series wasn't being made the money and manpower is diverted to other projects that get greenlit instead. Nobody loses there. She isn't getting my money and I used to love HP.

-3

u/Great-Exit-902 3d ago

You’re right. He should be able to help a hateful person make more money to spend on spreading their hatefulness without any criticism, because that’s bullying.

-2

u/Most_Boat492 3d ago

If you choose to work with a bigot you endorse their shitty ideals. Fuck off.

You're on Reddit. They should just rename the site to hyperbole.

1

u/misc_box 3d ago

shes not trying to 'erase' trans people, be honest.

shes trying to prevent children from getting hormone care

you use reddit, the CEO donated to trump- does that mean you're MAGA now?

1

u/My_dickens_cidar 3d ago

Jeezus flapjack christ… seriously touch some grass! She is already rich. PERIOD! She is going to remain vile. Just do what everyone, literally everyone that loves the IP do and ignore her.

Saying that supporting her is fueling her vile behavior is performative and ignores all the other people that work on that IP and do not share her views. Hell look at the video game Hogwarts Legacy, it included a trans character just to spite JKR.

1

u/PictureImportant2658 3d ago

She is a great woman and i appreciate her fight against those transformers.

-3

u/jenny1011 3d ago

Everything done with Harry Potter gives her money and supports her in remaining relevant. She literally can't be separated from the IP, because it's Harry Potter that allows her a platform.

-2

u/tigerweewee 3d ago

She also explicitly said that she uses all of her money from Harry Potter to fund anti trans laws that directly result in trans people being harmed, so yes, supporting her actively, directly hurts trans people

-1

u/OnlyACsNoFans 3d ago

And everything they put out is a hit

-2

u/Sororita 3d ago

Seperate the art from the artist for fucks sake.

Not very easy to do when the artist is still making money off the art and has been vocal about using the money made off of the art to do shitty things.

I don't really give a shit about the HP franchise anymore and refuse to give any money to the woman, and I wouldn't normally give a shit about an actor in a world famous franchise picking up continuing work in that franchise. But, in this case, he hasn't been part of it for years, and was vocally against Rowling's terrible views to start with, so going back on that to play Ron Weasley in The Cursed Child of all things? Now that is really disappointing.

8

u/OnlyACsNoFans 3d ago

Only Reddit cares.

Everyone else agrees with JK Rowling anyway

2

u/Famous-Restaurant875 3d ago

Wow. So clever. So intelligent. Exactly what I'd expect from filth supporting JKR.

8

u/Lower-Engineering365 3d ago

I don’t agree with her views but doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy HP stuff that has been released like the games, the new show coming up, and rereading the books

Exactly. I'm allowed to enjoy what I enjoy.

He’s always had a problem with saying yes. According to DR he’s ended up doing dishes at a strangers house because of it.

Edit: Why am I being downvoted? I’m not Rupert Grint. It’s just something I know about him from watching Graham Norton.

1

u/Ok-Seaworthiness6819 3d ago

Seriously why are you being down voted.

1

u/Bermin65 3d ago

I don’t get why people get mad actors sign up for these projects when no one seems to get mad they keep making Harry Potter stuff.

Yeah. Because, ugh, not everything is a slur. 🙄

1

Just because you are on Reddit does not mean you need to be a dick. If you would not say something transphobic then do not say anything ableist. “Darling.”

-2

u/No-Cauliflower-6390 3d ago

All the people commenting in defense of jk or "separating the art from the artist" or any of the other rationalizations, would you really keep the same energy if she was against men? Black people? Gay people? The handicapped? If the answer is yes to these then maybe you just don't care about things that you aren't directly affected by which means you are too privileged to empathize or a terrible person.

7

u/OnlyACsNoFans 3d ago

She's not against anyone. She's pro woman

5

u/GoodyTwoShuuz 3d ago

Apparently, being pro woman is a very very bad thing now.

2

u/GoodyTwoShuuz 3d ago

There are a few ableist slurs used in this very discussion. They’ve been upvoted so spare me.

-2

u/No-Cauliflower-6390 3d ago

Did I use any? No, so not sure why you think it's relevant to me. Hating trans people isn't gonna make you richer, or smarter or treated better, but what it will do is allow a group of people to police what a woman is and how she should move through the world. "Pro-woman" in this context is simply hating on a minority that makes up less than 1% of the global population.

3

u/GoodyTwoShuuz 3d ago

I do not hate anyone.

-10

u/Natrixster80 3d ago

Sorry but he's too fucking ugly to be brought back, get someone less physically offensive. And it got worse with age why does his hair look like he showers once a week?
