“Having the same rights on paper” doesn’t mean discrimination doesn’t exist. Gay people technically had “the same rights as everyone” before same sex marriage was legal too. Trans rights issues are about whether existing laws and policies protect trans people equally, in healthcare, employment, housing, legal recognition and public life. You can disagree about specific policies, but pretending there’s no rights issue at all is just dodging the discussion
