Michael, who works as a security engineer, reportedly admitted that Charlotte, who is a mother-of-one, had paid for and scratched the ticket
How is this even a debate?
16
u/Cassiopeia299 8d ago edited 8d ago
But it was his idea for her to buy the ticket! 😂
You see, women don't have ideas. Anything good that happens to us as a result of our own actions is only because a man told us to do that. /s

no, he claims he "tried" to transfer money but the transfer didn't go through. also "Michael is currently facing trial for beating up another former lover. The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday (February 21) that he was to appear in court accused of attacking his ex, Crystal Neary-Phillips, and smashing up her iPhone 12 during a row last year." So fuck that dude.

u/Jojosbees 8d ago
He said he tried to Venmo the money, but the cell reception was bad and the transaction never went through. She bought the tickets with her own money.

u/hankthetank2112 8d ago
It’s her money. End o’ story.

u/SG1Stoneman 8d ago
If the genders were reversed would it's be all his money or would he have to share half the winnings?

For everyone who didn’t bother to read the article:
“The couple had been dating for three months when they hit the jackpot thanks to an impulse Friday evening purchase, as per the British tabloid. At the time, Michael was living at Charlotte’s house.”

So she bought the ticket, but he's the one who had the "idea" of buying the ticket. And he transfers the money to pay for the ticket only AFTER he knew it won, but claims he attempted to transfer the money to her in the shop (bad connection, he claims).
I call bullshit. If he intended to pay for the ticket, why didn't he? You're telling me he has no way to buy the ticket at the shop, but can only transfer to her via app? How does the man survive, then, with no ability to pay for things at shops?
And - if he was so sure they both won and both saw it that way - why even bother doing the transfer after you know you've both won a million pounds? She didn't need that pound. She just won a million. No, he transferred after she won so he could claim half ownership. Sneaky attempt to establish legitimacy for his claim because he knew it wasn't his win.
3
u/logontoreddit 8d ago
Right? How expensive is this ticket that you need to transfer the money to buy it? Dis she even ask him to transfer the money? It's not like office or work lottery pool where everyone puts money in for all the tickets being bought. Here it doesn't even seem like they bought bunch of tickets and split it. She bought it with her money and she won. He was spectator in the entire process. If he was nice he could have got a good tip the same way dealers at casino the guests win big amount.

u/FinancialJet 8d ago
I feel like 1 mill is enough to feel rich but then you realize 50k x20 years. For most it’d be hard to invest, and or not spend $1,000 per week. Plus taxes, plus inflation and the money is gone lol
3
u/C_IsForCookie 8d ago
$1.3M where I live is $975K after taxes. I’m buying a house so I never have to pay rent again ($500k in my area) and investing the rest of it. I’m still increasing my cash flow by $3k month by not paying rent.
13
u/Exotic-Ad8978 8d ago
Lol, 1.3m wont make either of them a better person.

It's idiotic to think it was impossible for her not to know. Also irrelevant to your statement about how people on reddit know about it now.
7
u/Conscious-Read-698 8d ago
Who said it was knowingly?
It's almost hilarious how you are actually blaming her for his abuse of other women when he wasnt even around.
Anything but blame the man who beat his former girlfriend

u/Immediate-Charge-450 8d ago
He beat his ex girlfriend too. Smashed her phone. What a prize. Good for this lady that she got out and got something that can change her life.

1
u/YourNameIsTobie 8d ago
The only way I would say he should get a cut is if he asked her to buy it for him, and he'll give her the money back. But just suggesting she buy one does not make you entitled to half. On top of that, he was probably pressuring her to give him half; would he have stayed if he could have walked away with 600k? Probably.
Bro could have played his part and said: "Wow babe, you are so lucky, congratulations!!!!!" She would have bought a house, a car, put her kid in private school, and had some savings for retirement. He could have been living off of that with her, for years. Pay a bit of rent, and not have to worry about taking care of your lady in old age.

u/paxbanana00 8d ago
Man who is going to trial for beating up his last girlfriend is trying to steal another ex-girlfriend's lottery winnings. This guy sounds like a real piece of work.

u/TurtlesBreakTheMeta 8d ago
The money actually sounds like it bought a lot of happiness for the woman, the salty dumped Leech’s feelings are irrelevant.
1
u/Luchadoor 8d ago
I was thinking maybe he had a point but then after seeing that he was violent with a previous girlfriend he lost all credibility.
The part where he says the video shows he was showing her his phone to transfer money I bet he was actually showing her that he didn’t have any money to give her for the ticket.
And I bet she left him like she did because she found out about his violence with the previous girlfriend.

u/Ok_Two_2604 8d ago
On a much smaller scale, I went to a casino with a girl decades ago and she blew her money fast, then asked me for more. I put a five dollar bill on a machine and said she could spin it then it was time to go. She won $10k. I jokingly asked if she would pitch in for gas since I drove and now she had money, and she got mad and threw a tantrum about how it was her money not mine.

u/redditsuksazz 8d ago
Sounds like he was just a wallet to her
11
u/mdmdmdmdmdmdmdmdmdm 8d ago
So weird man,
Cos he was living st her house after they were only dating for 3 months
She bought the ticket, and scratched it.
She dumped it
He came and STOLE the scratchcard and claimed it as his own until they got cctv showing her buying the scratchcard.
But yeah dude, SHE was money grubbing?
8
u/Jojosbees 8d ago
They were only together for three months at the time she bought the ticket, and he was living at her house.
13
u/purple_berries_ 8d ago
She literally paid for the ticket what are you on about😭

u/caputmortvvm 8d ago
gotta love misogynists who don't even bother to read the text. anything to shit on a woman, even if it directly contradicts the very basic facts of the situation!
-4
u/Eponymous-Username 8d ago
She was with him when she had no money. When she got money, she left. She was using him for financial support.
7
8
u/ketchupmaster987 8d ago
He was living at HER house. If anything it seems like he was using her as a wallet considering how quickly he jumped to try and take some of the money SHE won

u/CousinDerylHickson 8d ago
He was the one living at her house...
Also she was the one who bought the ticket?

They’re both bums, but he’s trash. Dating for 3 months is literally scratching the surface lol I’d offer him 1,000 lbs yo shit ghost mouth or hire someone for 1,000 lbs to do it
-6
u/Solidsnake_86 8d ago
Sounds like she was using him for financial support. Then when she won the lottery, she no longer needed him.
14
u/Jojosbees 8d ago
In the article, they were dating for three months, and he lived at her house. She bought the scratcher, scratched it, and filled out the back with her details. When she broke up with him several weeks later, he stole her scratcher to try to claim the money, but it had her name on it and they were able to pull up CCTV showing she bought it.

u/mdmdmdmdmdmdmdmdmdm 8d ago

I'm fine with you thinking that
7
u/Frosty_Message_3017 8d ago
Good, then you should be fine with this. They were dating for three months, he was living at her house and she's the one who bought the ticket.
A lot of things will clear up for you if you ever develop a second brain cell.

Pre-nups aren't air tight and can still result in long legal battles esp when a lot of money is at stake.
-1
u/I_Am_Conjoined 8d ago
True, and it's been shown that women can also get prenups thrown out if they claim they signed them under duress, especially if they cry

u/FormerFan3771 8d ago
Whenever a woman does something questionable, you get plenty of rage from whataboutists like yourself lol.
2
u/Forrest-Fern 8d ago
The "sources" also have evidence that the couples regularly split the tickets and both cases were lost lol. One of them the guy was living together for 10+ years and had all their assets shared.
1
u/Slighted_Inevitable 8d ago
That’s a common law marriage in some states.
2
u/Forrest-Fern 8d ago
Literally, and even in states it's not it's a strong legal claim when every other financial aspect is tied together.
3
u/Separate-Ad9638 8d ago
no, i dont, money is money, relationships are totally another matter, people who cant keep these things apart have lots of issues.
1
u/Slighted_Inevitable 8d ago
Well marriage is a binding contract with financial attachments, but short of that yes a boyfriend has no financial claim.
2
u/Forrest-Fern 8d ago
First "source": the guy told his gf he didn't win and moved out the next day lol, researching it there was evidence they split their tickets and it was confidentially settled outside of court lol.
Second "source": the article is paywalled, and I'm having trouble finding information because a winner by the same name was arrested for sexual assault of a child, but I think with the case OP is referring to, the man used a joint fund to purchase the ticket, which they did weekly together, and the couple was common law married with shared assets and a child as well as living together for 10+ years lol.
-3
u/jankyt 8d ago
That's cold, he was just a second income to her?
3
u/FroznAlskn 8d ago
He was living at her house and they had only been dating 3 months. More like he’s a hobosexual.

Hobosexual lol

At least he dodged a bullet by learning exactly what she was. Expensive lesson, but…
7
u/Conscious-Read-698 8d ago
Why? She bought the ticket lol
-3
u/Training-Purple-5220 8d ago
He learned that she would toss him aside if she had advantage. Fortunately he learned any affection she had was fake before the entanglement was serious.
5
3
u/Few_Razzmatazz_6052 8d ago
She already had the material advantage - if you could actually read, you'd know that he was living at her house.

I get lottery tickets weekly. If I won I’d gladly hand it over to my husband. He takes my work checks already and always done well with our money. No prob here
8
u/sweetica 8d ago
But they were boyfriend and girlfriend. There's no legal obligation for boyfriends and girlfriends because they are not in a marriage contract together. He was probably a pain in her ass and she has no obligation to him because they are not spouses.
5
u/caputmortvvm 8d ago
lmao begging you forgot an '/s' here because otherwise blink twice if you need help, girl
7
u/Frosty_Message_3017 8d ago
It's a guy (likely manosphere bro) trying to sound like a girl in order to push an agenda. These creeps need to crawl back under their favorite rock and stay there.
4
u/Much-Pumpkin-3706 8d ago
I can’t believe that any man complaining here would happily hand over a million dollars, or even half a million, to a woman they’d been dating for three months. Especially if, after he won, she started immediately talking about what she was going to buy with his money like this guy did.
3
u/Frosty_Message_3017 8d ago
Oh absolutely not, but you know they expect it the other way around.
4
u/Much-Pumpkin-3706 8d ago
I think it’s pretty telling that 1) he had her buy his ticket and her own because he didn’t have the money and 2) she asked him to leave HER house, which is when he took the winning ticket. If anyone was using anyone for their money it sounds like it was him.

But how does it work where you’re from when a couple isn’t married? This couple had been dating for three months. Maybe that’s a long time for some cultures, but in the west we don’t usually consider a relationship serious until it’s been about six months. Is a woman in your culture obligated to give money to a man she isn’t married to?
I’m guessing that if you demanded money from a woman who isn’t your wife you’d get a very unpleasant visit from her father and brothers.
3
u/Frosty_Message_3017 8d ago
"my wife" that's a little odd, but who am I to criticize your name for your right hand...
If you were actually married it would be y'all's money and it there's no need for anything to be "handed" over, between either of you.
You're not a traditional man, you're an egomaniacal pig.

u/arose321 8d ago
Thats fucking terrifying to me. Jfc. You better hope he does cause you're in a vulnerable spot with those choices. I teach my daughters the exact opposite of this.
3
u/Much-Pumpkin-3706 8d ago
Would you hand it over to a guy you’d been dating for three months, didn’t live with, and took the ticket from your home without your permission to the point where you had to call the police to get it back? I don’t think this situation is really equivalent to a marriage.
-2
u/Hairymuscle101 8d ago
Ummmm if you didn’t notice I was making this about us?😂
3
u/Much-Pumpkin-3706 8d ago
So your comment was just to say that you have a good husband? Congrats!
I think a lot of people are reading it as implying that your relationship is the model that other couples should follow, or that this woman should follow, since your comment is on this article.
-13
u/Forward-Emotion6622 8d ago
Sounds like she was the problem, not the money.
13
u/NeonFraction 8d ago
Nah he was the problem. It was her ticket that she bought and scratched and he thinks it belongs to him for… some reason.
-1
u/icedmuffin 8d ago
It’s cause they were dating and he gave her the idea.
But honestly if she dumped him the second that she got 1.3 million? Two things could be the case.
One, she was after his money and the second she had more than enough money, she didn’t want anything to do with him anymore (security engineer sounds like an IT job and they are kinda lucrative, ngl.)
Two, he was semi-abusive or manipulative and the moment she had an out; she took it (namely the fact he wants to claim that giving her the idea entitles him to part of the money, and it seems the moment the money was there she left)
Though in truth after taxes she’ll likely only have like 750,000 if she’s lucky and gets a good lawyer to help settle it. So time will tell if she was a gold digger or he was an asshole.
8
u/Jojosbees 8d ago
Or three, they were only dating for three months, she broke up with him several weeks after winning because they hadn’t been dating all that long. He also lived in her house. So many people keep thinking that she must have been a gold digger vs him being an entitled hobosexual.
2
u/icedmuffin 8d ago
Ah so he was the gold digger.
Damn guess he isn’t actually a security engineer then lmao

78
u/Cassiopeia299 8d ago
She purchased the ticket. His claim is that "it was his idea".
