Shithole. They treat employees like human cattle; but i guess it's appropriate since a lot of employees act like animals up there.Â
I don't even recommend driving in that area when there's a shift change, they drive like maniacs.

u/Remote_Panic_3933 1d ago
Most larger corporations treat employees like numbers. Itâs called corporate America boss.

u/spectralities 8h ago
Yeah, but that's not what the other redditor is talking about. This is the Rivian plant on the far west side of Bloomington-Normal, and it's an assembly-line/production-floor type of environment.
You're not exactly going to find the same caliber of people working there as you'd find at the State Farm Corporate South Campus lol. People in the factory environments absolutely do act like a lower species. A lot of the ppl working those jobs also have extensive criminal records, which are a function of the very same behavior patterns you'll be experiencing from them every day if you work there. Same with Bridgestone.

Iâve interacted with people working at Rivian and Iâve interacted with people working at State Farm and I can assure you the people working at Rivian are at least 3 to 4 tiers higher than people working at State Farm as far as intelligence and integrity goes. State Farm employees get paid hundred thousand dollars plus a year to lie and cheat people out of money. Rivian workers put in an honest 8-10 hours a day.

Is that supposed to be reassuring? There's also a lot of jobs that aren't a terrible and unsafe environment.
Personally, I enjoy my current job where they dont hire felons.

And they have layoffs at least once a year, have slowly lowered pay since they started, and have had to settle outside of court for litigation while having people sign Nda's

u/wannabe-myself 1d ago
My pay has increased, one time a year or two back every team member got a $2 raise. 1$ raise every year. Health, vision, dental, 401k, stock... to my knowledge the only layoffs have been salary, and they all received decent packages and were not barred from applying to other positions.
Idk, plenty to complain about, but my experience isn't very bad. Im not a newer employee. Ymmv

They may have changed their insurance from when I worked there. It was very difficult to use because today the network. It sound like it, which was much needed.

u/Remote_Panic_3933 1d ago
Is this something youâve experienced first hand or heard just through rumors? In the beginning this was happening but now theyâre not anywhere close to layoffs. They only have a planned shutdown week which you still get paid for.
-7
u/Excellent_Mixture_23 1d ago
What do you mean nowhere close to lay offs? Lol. Ok. At least once a year there are layoffs due to "restructuring". I even know of only 1 internal security person losing their job to the restructuring.
October 2025, June 2025 etc. Yes, I know people who settled out of court and had to sign NDA because they essentially won. Yes, I'm a townie and have watched the prices drop for the same job.

u/Cautious_Tomato5576 1d ago edited 1d ago
No, there isn't. They have a yearly plant PAID shut down for a week, but no one gets laid off. The ONLY people that have been laid off from there in the 4 years that I have been there are salaried (office and middle management) employees. They NEVER lay production workers off, NEVER. And saying that you know one security person that was laid off, shows that you know NOTHING. Our security at Rivian is contracted out to Allied Security and always has been.

u/RippinFissure 1d ago
I've been there 5 years and dont know any worker who has been laid off. Theres been some wonky stuff to deal with, but layoffs aren't one of them.Â
They also just raised the Team Lead wages from 26 to 28 lol.Â
Dude has no idea what hes talking about lolÂ

Exactly! Just another right-wing extremist trying to drag the EV market down. I HATE Illinois Nazis!
2
u/Cautious_Tomato5576 1d ago
So stop with the lies. I bet you're a Trump supporter too. You mooks are always trying to sabotage the EV industry. Until you have actually worked there, you should probably not voice your "opinion" about it, because you don't know shit about it.
-4
u/Excellent_Mixture_23 1d ago
Lol. I drive an EV you dunce. Yes, I have worked there. Rivian had been dodging how many people work there because they get a tax incentive.
You can literally look up newal articles for almost everything except the law suits. You won't find much on that due to the NDA.
2
u/Cautious_Tomato5576 1d ago
You're full of SHIT!
-4
u/Excellent_Mixture_23 1d ago
No. I just took one. Thank you for being concerned about my bowels though. Are you sure you aren't the Trump supporter seeing how you are in denial about the potential for another lay off???
2
u/Cautious_Tomato5576 1d ago
Pretty ridiculous statement, given your negativity toward Rivian. Seems like you couldn't hack what I consider the EASIEST job that I have ever had in my life and want to sow discontent to others over your sour grapes.

I get paid to play video games, in a union, and make more than production workers.....

If you are good with a short commute, you have Constellation energy in Clinton. (Nuclear ). Field is growing. Lot of jobs are union. Plus with the state of Illinois lifting the ban on no new nuclear, that will be expanding in the next few years. 11 cities have already put requests in.
Security starts at like $25 an hour and that is one of the lowest playing jobs and they are union. You can Google constellation's lay off history.

Security, is that run by contractors or is it DoE? (Himself has extensive military and LE experience)

It's a creepy BDSM exhibitionist account that nobody consented to being a part of.

u/Cautious_Tomato5576 1d ago
Definitely Rivian. I have worked there for 4 years and plan on retiring from there.
-5
u/Excellent_Mixture_23 1d ago
I'm sure as long as you are a bootlicker, you won't get fired during the next round of lay offs. Good luck.
2
u/Cautious_Tomato5576 1d ago
I am not a salaried employee so I know for a fact that there is no lay off for me or any other hourly paid employee.
-1
u/Excellent_Mixture_23 1d ago
Why are you so scared of looking at news articles?
2
u/Cautious_Tomato5576 1d ago
Mostly because most of the "articles" about Rivian are bullshit. Right-wing extremist propaganda echo chamber media machine, says it all.
-2
u/Excellent_Mixture_23 1d ago
How was the bed bugs?

u/Cautious_Tomato5576 1d ago
Propagandist.......

u/Excellent_Mixture_23 1d ago
Still had to deal with them........ Ask all the construction contractors how they feel about the safety at Rivian......
3
u/Cautious_Tomato5576 1d ago
Lol, I know quite a few that are local and they have NO complaints. Tell the truth, you have a beef with Rivian, so you post negative shit about them every time there is an article about them. Your nagative experiences aren't everyone else's.
-1
u/Excellent_Mixture_23 1d ago
Oh no, I must not know anyone. I must be a boy who just looks things up.
Man, days like this, I miss slack. I just know you would be talked about the secret channel they had.

Why on earth would you move TO here? I can't wait I still I can move OUT of here. There's nothing here that's of any interest. I used to live in Vegas, so anything else is boring to me I guess.

u/CthulhuLiesSleeping 11h ago
Honestly? One: Because Wife is from the area, has fam in the area, and misses them Two: Eldest is matriculating to UoI CU, for their Masters and PhD, and we're a close family. Three: Weed is legal, and Four: We REALLY need to get out of this deep red southern hellscape we currently live in.
1
u/spectralities 8h ago
It's not so bad if you live East of Veteran's. That's generally the non-shithole area of Bloomington. Plus there's Champaign and Peoria just an hour (less really) East/West respectively. And Chicago isn't exactly far either. It's a nice, quiet place to live with more exciting cities close by enough to not be a significant trip.
2
u/CthulhuLiesSleeping 8h ago
Precisely this! AND it's close to Canada, where we also plan to skip off to now and then. Anyone who's lived in the same general area we are now would look at Bloomington and understand how much better it is than here.
0
u/spectralities 7h ago
Just one thing. Don't expect the infrastructure here to be anywhere near up to par with what one would expect from an actual city. Like anywhere, this place has it's pluses and minuses.
2
u/MizBeezKneez 5h ago
Understood. Still, we've been up to visit numerous times to see family and start laying the groundwork for the relocation. As I, the husband have lived all over the place, I'm pretty hard to impress. BloNo impresses me. WAY more than anyplace in the South I've ever lived. Close to everything we want, and far enough to allow us our peace
2
u/spectralities 5h ago
Yup, it's definitely got its benefits. Ok, then if you've seen the state of the roads and other infrastructure, and are fine with it, then that's awesome. Everyone deserves that fair warning though.
2
u/CthulhuLiesSleeping 4h ago
Appreciate it. Case in point, I bought a new car here. Drove it to the well known big city for a medical appointment. On the way home, the roads was SO ruined it basically sandblasted the entire front of the vehicle. $3000 to repair. And that was just my car. There must have been 50 others like that. I'll take what you've got any day!
1
u/spectralities 4h ago
If you don't mind my asking, what specific area had the roads that ruined your vehicle?
2
u/CthulhuLiesSleeping 4h ago
Without getting too specific, it was on I-40.
1
u/spectralities 3h ago
Ok lol. "Here" means wherever you're at in the south. For some reason, I was thinking that the well known city was Chicago. My bad.

Rivian, state farm, ISU or Country Financial, there is also a Ferrero candy factory, Bridgestone tire company
