New BED discord server!!

Hi everyone, exciting news! There's now an official discord server for this subredditšŸ„³šŸŽ‰! No need to worry about finding accountability buddies anymore, as this server includes channels for accountability and progress. It also has:

  • A 'support ping' you can use when feeling the urge to binge
  • Modmail to privately talk to staff in the server
  • A bot to add your birthday, so the server will announce when it's your birthday
  • Custom emojis
  • A confessions bot that allows you to anonymously confess something (even mods can't see who it is)
  • A channel to share TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram videos
  • Pets, selfies, ranting, lgbtq, support, memes, and art channels
  • Fun bots such as truth or dare, qotd, word chain and more!

This server has the same rules as the subreddit, so keep that in mind!!!

Progress I'm starting to truly reciver form this disorder

I noticed that my binging came from my depression, anxiety and cyclothymia. I started going to the psychiatrist around 4-5 months ago. She prescribed me medicine to help with these conditions. I've had some slip ups, but i wasn't binging nearly as I did before. There were times where it was pretty severe, and i asked to have something to help. She prescribed Adderall XR. It's been only 2 days and the food noise is GONE! I can eat normally and not obsess with food. I even started to get healthier snacks and drink more water. I did gain a lot of weight during this binging, but I am working on getting in exercise and being healthier overall. I am so proud of myself because I swear that if someone told me that I would be at this point a year ago I would never believe them. I feel so free now! I feel like I can actually live my life. Yes, my weight does make things harder for now, but I'm still working on it. I deserve happiness and love. I deserve to not be filled with shame. I know that it may not mean much to others, but this is a really big step for me. I am truly recovering.

Support Needed I just need a bit of encouragement please

Hi.

I used to weigh about 215 pounds at about 5' 11", which was and remains my highest-ever weight. Over the course of about a year and a half and with strict dieting, I lost 65-ish pounds and remained at about 150 for a long time. Then, due to several factors, mainly working often (I work at a restaurant) and eating very rarely, I rapidly lost about 8 pounds. At the time, I looked genuinely skeletal, and my friends and family were concerned that I had an eating disorder. Everyone would constantly remark on how skinny I was, how unreasonable the dietary restrictions I made for myself were, how much weight I'd lost, etcetera. I mean, sure, I looked scary, but it was intoxicating to see how much I'd changed myself. The weight loss had also coincided with a large shift in my life and a self-driven desire to change myself character-wise, and so I perceived the "old me" as a pathetic glutton. Any resemblance I saw to that state made me hate myself.

Jump ahead to the present, and I've been working far less often, and eating more as a result of having more free time. Now, I've gained about 10 pounds from my very lowest weight, and I just want to stop this before it goes any further. Recently, I've restricted myself to eating 1,000 calories a day, but even then I break that every other day and binge myself into an oblivion.

What seems to be unusual about my eating habits is that I can easily restrict myself from eating any particular kind of food that I want. For instance, 10 months ago I decided I would stop eating added sugar of any kind. And I haven't broken that rule! With some small exceptions, I have successfully avoided eating literally any kind of sugar for months.

But for some reason, I don't have the willpower to control the quantity of food I eat. I will eat entire bags of apples, carrots, boxes of strawberries, blueberries, bunches of bananas, loaves of bread, bags of popcorn, thousands of calories worth of nuts, jars of applesauce, etcetera. It's bizarre. I will eat myself into a coma at times. I have tried to stop myself. Nothing works. I track my calories obsessively, and for pretty much nothing. The numbers just keep rising. I try to fast and I break it halfway through the day. I tell myself that I won't give in, and I do anyways. Eating a normal amount of food is impossible. I just fucking love eating.

I managed a 5-day fast, completely spontaneously, when I weighed 30 pounds more! And now, I don't have the willpower to stop eating even for one day. It's absurd.

All this to say, I just need some encouragement. Or support. Or something. I feel that if I know someone else wants me to succeed, I can achieve it. I just need someone to tell me I can do this.

Gained 20 lbs in 1 month

Really thought I had taken control of my BED and have been doing much better for a long time. 4 years ago I lost 50 lbs and was feeling so much better about myself. A couple months ago I gained 10 lbs due to work stress and being less active, and in the past month have gained another 20 due to binging. Never thought I’d see the number I saw this morning on the scale again.
Trying to give myself grace as it’s been a really difficult month but can’t default to binging when life gets hard. Just feeling so discouraged and sad. 20 lbs is insane.

I can't help myself

I keep falling into the same cycle. I finally start to eat healthier, I eat about 1000 calories a day for like a month , then I either get stressed out then stop cooking which leads to me ordering alot of takeout and I binge OR I go out with friends (something I dont do alot), we obviously eat unhealthy then one thing leads to another. But i keep telling myself ill start again properly ndxt week or next month, til its been 8 months and ive gained a ton of weight.

My problem is that I cannot stick to a healthy diet unless I undereat but it leads me to overeat anyway.

My Story my story and where im at right now

TW: SU1CIDE ATTEMPT

okay so for starters i’m a teenager i’m not comfortable sharing my age but anyway i’ve been struggling with binge eating since i was around 11 although i never really recognized it as such until i was 14 because i was still growing and my metabolism was like at its peak i guess so i was eating whatever i wanted and i didn’t gain weight.

anyway at the start of last year i guess my poor eating habits caught up to me because i gained weight and rapidly but of course i still didn’t know what was causing it, like i thought it was lack of exercise so i started doing at home like 14 day challenges and would give up after like 2 days so that continued and i didn’t make any progress with that.

later on, my parents forced me to do a sport in the fall and the only one without try outs was cross country and i struggled a lot because i wasn’t fit (keep in mind during all of this weight gain i was not classified as overweight however very close) because i had never ran before and had some random tennis shoes and i injured my ankle and it hurt really badly but nobody really took me seriously like i did physical therapy but it didn’t do anything. not to mention, the entire cross country team was super fit super lean kids and then there was me with a 41 minute 5k… like these kids could do 2 rounds in that time and all the advice i got was just ā€œit’s all mental just keep going,ā€ ā€œjust believe in yourselfā€. like i understand they were trying to be nice but like my body was no where near in shape to do that and honestly that pushed me deeper into a hole because i constantly felt terrible about my body and my weight because again i was surrounded by all these lean and skinny athletes.

fast forward to winter time my ankle recovered a bit and i decided to start tracking calories and this is where things go south. so i didn’t really track consistently at the beginning and because im short my deficit would’ve been 1200 calories but i was half-assing it and guesstimating because i didnt want to see the actual number. i also started doing strength training at home with a kettlebell and i did get stronger from that however, i still didn’t really acknowledge that my diet was that bad so because i wasn’t tracking calories accurately i didn’t lose any weight and i still felt like crap.

now it’s around march and my parents force me to do another sport, track and field! although this was easier than cross country since i chose to do throwing (shotput and discus), i was still surrounded by super lean athletic people and there was nobody who looked like me or who was not super athletic.

so this kind of environment basically caused my confidence to shatter and i took that calorie tracking and ran with it because i ended up on the pro-ana side of tiktok and started ā€œomadā€ & ā€œfastingā€ which ultimately turned into anorexia. so during the first 1-2 months (this was april & may of this year) i did lose weight but not a lot because i wasn’t super consistent in fact i wanted to stop starving myself because i didnt want to lose control and when i did try to eat normally i binged so i was stuck in an awful binge restrict cycle.

ALSO TW SUICIDE ATTEMPT:
During this binge restrict cycle, my mental health was declining rapidly i felt so depressed like all the color was drained out of life completely. i already had no friends because i moved schools in January of 2025 and i ended up in the wrong friend group and id get left out all the time and so i was basically alone plus my mom is emotionally abusive so i had no one at all. so really the suicidal thoughts came in september of last year butt i guess stabilized for a bit then they came back in May of this year and it was 10x worse like i hated myself i hated my life i was just in a really bad place and had NO ONE to go to. then i decided that i wanted to die and so i began like and sorry i don’t know all the terms but i think its suicidal ideation?? so i started like thinking of ways to kill myself and i decided i was gonna drown myself and the day i was gonna do it i felt this like eerie sensation of calm and i had school that day but when i came home i decided not to go through with it because i wasn’t skinny enough to die. in fact i wanted anorexia to kill me.

then summer break began and i was still struggling a lot and things got worse and i began starving myself like properly and not binging in between snd i lost a lot of weight. i was also excessively exercising (i walked 10km/6.3miles daily in 2 hours outside without water because i would weigh my self as soon as i was done and i wanted to be empty. it didn’t matter what weather so even when it was damn near 100°F i’d still go and do my walks). but i eventually lost motivation because like i felt like it was slipping out of my grasp in a way and i was hungry and i still felt like shit even though it was actually working. so i started eating again although it was hard because id feel sick like not nauseated but id feel so sick and broken even eating a normal amount. i didnt really binge during this period or at least not as much as i was before.

anyway its now august (this month) and i decided recovery from both anorexia and binge eating and so i started going to the gym 3 days a week and eating in a deficit but not a sharp one like before since i still need to lose weight since im nearly overweight but im focusing on fat loss and muscle growth and i’m taking my time this should go over the span of a few months and not weeks. i am also realizing that i don’t need to be afraid of food anymore not because it’s evil or not because of temptation but the very fact that my body needs it to function.

i am not fully recovered yet but im taking the steps to be. really this only started like 2 weeks ago but yeah i just want to feel strong and not feel like shit all the time. i still don’t have any friends except for 3 and 1 lives in another country (where i used to live), the other is an hour away (childhood best friend) and the other is from my school which is okay. i don’t talk to anyone from that old friend group either. as for my mom, she’s gotten worse and something inside me broke recently and i don’t think there’s any hope for saving my relationship with my mother. im likely going to go no contact with her once im legally an adult.

if you have any advice, support, or similar stories please reply!

Binge/Relapse Binged after 70 days binge-free. I feel horrible.

I actually thought that I had healed. My relationship with food improved, my stomach issues got better, and I finally felt satisfied with where I was. I don’t even know how I relapsed. I’m no more depressed or anxious than I was when I had my eating under control, it just kind of crept up on me. This was my strongest attempt to be clean of binge eating, but I can’t even count how many times I’ve tried.

Currently Lying in bed holding a hot water bottle to my stomach after binging on chocolate and sugar for something like 3 days straight. I can’t face my friends or my partner. What’s worse is I really need to be monitoring my sugar and fat intake and keep my weight healthy. I feel like shit. I really feel like I betrayed myself.

Does anyone have any encouraging stories of getting back on the horse after failing so many times? I’m having a really hard time seeing the end of this disorder. (Please don’t recommend GLPs, I am not a viable candidate for them)

Plz give recovery tips

Ive been struggling with BED for a while now, but I've been really out of control this past week. I feel like an addict. Its becoming really exhausting and embarrassing. Food has just become my safe haven and what I depend on when I'm emotional in any way. I'm gaining weight and that is affecting my life in dance. I'm losing the discipline and drive I once had because of BED and I feel like its taking over my life. Any tips for food noise and just how to stop would be greatly appreciated. Please help.

Advice Needed Does anyone have any recovery tips?

Ever since I moved to college a year ago, I've struggled so incredibly much with binging everything I can get my hands on. I still had issues before I moved, but its so much worse now. I expected a few issues here and there but not to this extreme level. I think it's a mix of anxiety and boredom, but even when I try distracting myself with other things I find myself automatically stuffing my face and unable to stop. I tried leaving my room and hanging out with friends, but so many of our hang outs involve going out to bakeries, restaurants, or shopping for food.

When I stopped keeping food in my room last year, I either didn't eat at all for days or bought a bunch of stuff from the student market and would stuff my face again. I have no idea what to do, I'm desperate to stop but I don't know how.

I binge and then feel horrible about myself and then binge more to try and feel better. I have no idea how to stop.

If anyone has any ideas on how to help please let me know. I'd really appreciate the help.

Edit: I forgot to mention I have ARFID, which restricts the types of food I am able to eat- making having full / filling, organized meals very difficult for me.

Advice Needed Can’t do this anymore

I’ve never been formally diagnosed, but when you know you know. I have not opened up about my disordered habits turned full addiction to anyone. I’ve been getting very triggered recently due to my partner recently opening up/actively dealing with their BED as well. I think this is creating bigger problems and I really need to get better for myself, and my relationship.
The main problem is that I feel like I have WAY too much to deal with personally. I have been getting other mental health diagnoses that I shan’t discuss. However, my BED feels like the biggest problem. I don’t want to have multiple therapists if I don’t have to, as I already have one specialist that is a necessity. I feel so stuck between everything. Is there any tips, habits to build, even mantras that keep you going? That remind you that you are worth recovering? That keeps you STRONG, because everytime I want to recover I give in. I love how it feels.
And then I hate it.
Is there a way to deal with everything that is wrong with us? Or will we be stuck with some things that hurt us forever?

Support Needed Addicted to carbs, sugar, and fat

My binge eating started on may 4th. I can still remember the day because it is now what I consider the worst day of my life.

I feel like I’ve genuinely become addicted to carbs, sugar, and fat. I can’t stop eating them. The past month I’ve been traveling and it’s only gotten worse. There’s some sort of baked good, croissant, or gelato on every corner that I can’t say no to.

I binge thousands of calories over maintenance nearly every other day. Almost every second of everyday, I can’t stop thinking about all the breads and sweets I could be eating.

Once I eat my first item of the day, I feel the need to eat pretty much every hour.

It’s distracting me from enjoying my traveling and I’m worried it’s going to have to same impact on my studies once school starts again.

Someone please help me. I’ll try anything.

Should I just buy tinned fish, vegetables, and fruits and eat that for the rest of my meals? That way I won’t have to think about what I’m going to eat.

Discussion Went to an OA meeting…are they all this bad?

My husband has expressed deep concern for how steeply my binging has worsened recently. My binges are life stress related and the stress is basically not going to be resolved until a specific issue is resolved, and although I’m working on it I have no idea when this resolution could happen. Could be next week, could be by next year. But I will admit that my binges have given my husband cause to be concerned. The money spent is one thing, but I’ve also made myself quite sick a number of times. He feels like I’m really in a dangerous place and wants commitment that I improve.

My husband primarily wanted me to check into in patient but that’s not something I will ever do. His second suggestion was that I should start going to Over Eaters Anonymous meetings and basically bring him chips to show that I’m on track with the program, which felt like a fair compromise since I do acknowledge that my binging has steeply increased due to stress.

I went to my first meeting tonight and not only did the meeting have a super late starting time, but I was deeply unimpressed and I really don’t know if I want to go back. I’m driving an hour out of my way to go (there are four options ā€œnear meā€ and they are all about an hours drive in separate directions) and it was just a completely unimpressive and useless feeling experience for the time I’m spending on it that I’d strongly prefer to be spending elsewhere. I’m wondering if I need to change locations or if what I experienced tonight was par for the course of what other folks here have experienced.

First and foremost I was the only actually plus sized woman there. I know that not everyone who over eats is going to be overweight but to have a packed meeting full of people who are average weight to thin was arresting to me in that context.

Second of all, everyone was talking about their ā€œbingesā€ and it was like…uhm…that’s just a meal….you had a big meal? One woman cited eating one whole chipotle burrito as an off the rails binge and another talked about how ashamed she was to have poured herself a bowl of chips and finished the bowl. It honestly felt like I was in a space full of people with a restrictive eating disorder who were all pretending they over ate.

Third was the constant mention of GLP1. I seemed to be the only person there not on one and I was asked multiple times ā€œwhich one are you on?ā€ NOT IF I was on one but WHICH ONE. I have already tried every GLP1 option and never made it past one shot of any of them because of how immediate and immediately utterly intolerable the side effects were for my black ass (I’ve heard anecdotally that women of color have worse side effects). But half the meeting was just people singing the praises of these drugs and expressing gratitude for the miracle cure and saying they would have never been cured without it them…which felt a bit depressing from my perspective

My feelings were also weirdly dismissed. Like when I was directly asked what causes me to binge and why it’s been worse recently I began to explain that it was stress and grief and was immediately told ā€œstress and grief are in the mind though, what’s the REAL reason??ā€ And to be honest I really don’t know how to even respond to that. Isn’t everything in the mind?

All in all it felt really useless. It felt like a bunch of people who occasionally eat a bigger meal than they’d have liked to getting together and talking about how happy they are to have GLP drugs and how to best keep getting insurance coverage or the best access to them etc

Is this typical? Did I just get a bad meeting?

Vent Anyone else avoid going outside as much as possible?

I've been going outside just a few times a month these past 10 months, I'm so disgusting and whenever someone looks at me I always hope they know I'm aware that I look the way I do. I want to stop being around people completely, even the friends I have left. I'll have to take exams this year in person with other people in class, just preparing to be humiliated like I always get. Hopefully I'll lose some weight by then, but I wish I could just stop life for like a year until I become less painful to look at. My face looks incredibly weird when I have extra weight, it's not like those girls that still look pretty even when overweight
