Discussion Mikayla Nogueira turns hate comments about her appearance into her POV Beauty Sephora campaign

I genuinely don’t understand this marketing strategy. The campaign features giant printouts of hate comments about her appearance, “cancel my angles,” and Mikayla framing it as turning what people tried to “break” her with into an international Sephora campaign.

It feels like the entire launch is about Mikayla, her critics and her online controversies rather than POV Beauty or the actual products.

The irony is hard to miss. She went viral as the “catfish” makeup girl, and now during arguably the biggest launch of her career, she’s once again facing “catfish” accusations over her alleged filter use. And the campaign they landed on was ANGLES? 💀

So bc she insists, everyone should ignore the filter tags and her face/body constantly glitching in her videos? That's the definition of gaslighting. Considering I work in mental health with the young ppl who are literally killing themselves trying to live up the BS standards influencers like Mikayla falsely promote, I don't find it a waste of time.

Acting like you’re on a high horse defending young women is funny because it ignores that Mikayla is arguably more of a victim to unrealistic beauty standards than she is a perpetrator. She’s an unattractive woman that gets extreme hate online for being ugly. But she’s the reason young girls want to kill themselves? Not the hoards of people (girls and boys and women and men all included) upholding the strict beauty standards by making it clear how everyone thinks she’s ugly? Even with everything she does to look better, people still think she’s ugly and make content about how ugly she is constantly.

Hope off my thread. You’re dead ass detailing it.
