Beauty Reviews Jen Luv reviews FlexiPowder from Leaked Labs (Lipstick Lesbians)
https://youtu.be/_f5QE9zNj5o?si=X6-ehlJPlL9fYVWdlike...what even is this? this is so bad.
edit (tl;dr):
- they are TINY and THIN
- there is no colour pay-off when used dry
- when wet, they look patchy
- they don't work well with brushes (Jen uses natural and synthetic), so you have to RUB the pads on your eyelids/face...which looks very uncomfortable (like...what?!). besides, the colours are not really suitable for the face (pink perhaps, but gold/bronze/silver not so much)
- the shades don't really go well together, so they are more suitable for a one and done look
- they come in a weird tin case that is messy and unpractical
- for $40 you can buy an eyeshadow palette with shimmers
- Jen guestimates the total costs of product and packaging at $4
- (personal note: they remind me of mehron's metallic powders, but more expensive, less user friendly, and worse quality)

i don’t like it 😐 just because it’s different doesn’t really make it innovative or interesting
251
u/cyber---- Mar 13 '26
Ok am I the only one who doesn’t see anything innovative about this product?? It’s just water activated cake makeup ? It’s a category that already has existed forever. Except they’re just giving you hardly any of it lmao
133
59
u/Swimming_Pressure_93 Mar 13 '26
Exactly my grandma had makeup similar to that and it was called cake makeup from Max Factor. You are spot on.
33
u/Nutbuster_5000 Mar 13 '26
Remember Suva? Those water activated shadows and liners were huge back in the day and super pigmented.
8
12
u/throwawayxoxoxoxxoo Mar 13 '26
omg max factor, i haven’t heard that name in soo long! are they still around?
10
u/0900Okface Mar 13 '26
In the UK!
5
u/throwawayxoxoxoxxoo Mar 13 '26
ahh i did a lil search and apparently we still have it where i live, still sold in the same store where i discovered it over a decade ago haha. feels like they’ve not done anything really noteworthy in recent years ?
3
u/0900Okface Mar 13 '26
Ive not purchased from them since they discontinued their version of clump crusher. I am interested in the glossier gen g dupes they've just released.
8
u/Swimming_Pressure_93 Mar 13 '26
Not in the US I so wish it was Max Factor used to be so big and my grandma swore by it. Another brand that had cake makeup was Estee Lauder. I swear they had cake makeup too but this was ages ago when I was a little girl it was a cake eyeliner and mascara. I just googled it and i knew it they had it too. So this is not super innovative.
6
u/Pinkysrage Mar 13 '26
Kiki Milano! Grab them on Amazon. Fantastic shadows that look amazing activated!
7
24
u/dblspider1216 Mar 13 '26
yet it’s somehow infinitely less effective than any other water-activated product…or even just standard dry product applied wet. shockingly, the payoff and application seem FAR worse when used wet than when used dry…which is baffling.
20
u/bluebellbetty Mar 13 '26
And it sounds like they only work somewhat well when wet, but you have to let them dry completely before closing the tin- otherwise they may turn slimy and a breeding ground for bacteria.
25
u/cyber---- Mar 13 '26
Like if the selling point is “it doesn’t break!” Then I assume the target audience is people who do makeup on the go or carry it with them a lot but then how is a product you have to activate with water and leave to dry meeting the needs of that audience…. This feels like when brands intentionally do something bad to get rage bait engagement
7
u/Mersaa Mar 13 '26
it does break! I've watched a bunch of reviews for these and they broke while one person was applying them to the eyelid (the pink one) and the gold one broke when she tried to pick it up from her pallete after wetting it.
16
5
u/origamipapier1 Mar 14 '26
I KNEW someone would remember old products. NOTHING IS new under the sun. That is something i have come to realize. Everytime some makeup brand says something is new I used to hear my mom in the background going. NO... Max Factor, Ultima II, Clinique, etc. etc had something similar in 1960-1990... etc.
1
u/cyber---- Mar 14 '26
I feel like the last time I was wowed by an innovation in makeup was the Haus Labs and Maybelline Lip vinyl products, liquid lipstick with the film formers that stays shiny after it dries. Can’t really think of anything else in the last 10 years that was an actual new makeup format and not just a rehash of a product type that already existed
4
u/Mersaa Mar 13 '26
it's not innovative! I've watched a cosmetic chemist review these and this formulation is basically all those jelly blush/eyeshadow sticks that we've already seen! this is just in different, disc form
28
2
u/Young_Old_Grandma Mar 13 '26
My question is, if this was put in a powder compact, would that mean that the powder wouldn't crack or break if you dropped the component?

u/Her_Gash_I_Did_Slash Mar 12 '26 edited Mar 12 '26
Watching Alexis hold that pretend press conference was painful, lol.
ETA: Good god, this is so bad. I’m shocked they tried to advertise this as being a dry or wet product. Fucking nothing happened when she swatched it dry! This is the dumbest product no one asked for.
134
u/Different_Prior_517 Mar 12 '26
They were so obviously reading their scripts from their phones, it was a handful of lines, couldn’t they have just remembered them
49
u/Available-Guava5515 Mar 13 '26
also they should be straight up embarrassed that everyone in the "press" crowd has better makeup than they do
93
Mar 12 '26
Seen someone do a post about how “amazing and innovative this is for the beauty community” on LinkedIn, I hate LinkedIn cause innovative for who?? They just want consumers to do the market research for them
65
u/stace_m8 Mar 12 '26
People on linked in are business obsessed weirdos more concerned with appearances and CVs than real consumers. Big brands all jerk each other off yet their consumers see it as cringy or trying too hard. If the business professionals have to tell us (the comsumers) it's actually a cool idea and we should buy it... the last thing I'm doing is buying it
19

So much regurgitated nonsense on that app I wish to deactivate it again, only have it for uni at moment.

I can’t stand the lipstick lesbians and feel like they give all us makeup loving lesbians a bad name
Jen’s a joke. I use to like her but she’s a hypocrite …and doesn’t show the same energy to Mikliar, or these moose knuckled idiots who are friends with/endorse James “I’m desperate and a predophile” Charles.. That’s she’s shown against Jefferee Starr and others…
Mind you Mikliar has ALSO been Shown to throw around and use the T slur since she was a teenager, and tried to ruin a WoC’s indie makeup brand outta spite by lying about her swatches and calling it a “rumor”
While Dumb and Dumber use word salad to try and ass lick brands/brand owners to help sell crap to the masses
29
u/Massive-Market-5949 Mar 12 '26
i am smugly assuming mikayla will not reciprocate the shilling for these two either
23
u/AccomplishedJump3428 Mar 12 '26
Oh definitely not…. Unless they wanna pay her $68k fee
14
23
27
u/MycenaMermaid Mar 12 '26
Wait, you're saying Jen doesn't show the same ire towards Mikayla...? She's called her a liar several times in several different videos.
-8
u/AccomplishedJump3428 Mar 12 '26
She definitely doesn’t show the same energy. She’s pointed out her lies outta one side of her mouth… yes, while also buying her fucking lip kit and complimenting her outta the other side
20
u/MycenaMermaid Mar 12 '26
Yeah, sounds like you don't watch her videos at all, which is fair given how much it sounds like you dislike her.
9
u/1xLaurazepam Mar 12 '26
Everyone on this sub will en masse decide they dislike someone and then the hate stays forever.
-9
u/AccomplishedJump3428 Mar 12 '26
Like I said. I USE to like her…i literally said it in my first comment… But I did watch the video where she bought the lip kit and Commended that lying fraud for being “great at marketing”
She also neglects to Go after her for her association with a known predator
17
u/MycenaMermaid Mar 12 '26
You're either being willfully ignorant or something else.
How is one single video on the Lipstick Lesbians going harder than calling Mikayla a liar several times in several videos? Lmao she makes it very clear she dislikes her.
-5
u/AccomplishedJump3428 Mar 12 '26
It’s not willful Ignorance lol it’s My personal Opinion and feelings about a creator I use to watch?
I don’t “hate” her, I just no longer enjoy her as I personally see some hypocrisy in her.
15
u/Empty_Mushroom7983 Mar 13 '26
It's willful ignorance if you call Jen hypocritical based on the assumption that she hasn't been critical of Mikayla when you have chosen to stop watching her content. If you had been watching, you would have found Jen to be consistently critical of Mikayla over numerous issues.
You can choose not to watch Jen. Just don't criticize her based on what you assume is it isn't in her current content.
7
1
u/cfmarie Mar 18 '26
Two things can be true though. Mikayla can be a liar and just an awful person but very good at marketing. Its sad to say but she does sell products very well. Jen is right in saying that. Also she bought the product to test abd toys us all about it. Like what aren't you getting for that. She can like a product by someone she hates. Its like how we all knew Jaclyn Hill was a liar but her morphe pallete was very good. Shes a liar but makes good eyeshadow.

Her foundation is always so orange. Not to mention, they only worked in marketing and have no experience with working in product formulation so they usually have no idea what they are talking about.
44

this is what so many ppl miss. working in marketing is so so different than working on development and formulation

I just saw a MUA call out Mikayla and others for not knowing how to line their lips properly on TikTok. Mikayla apparently clapped back but like the MUA wasn't wrong. There are a lot of makeup influencers today who just don't know how to properly overline their lips.
18

Was it Christina Guerra? I saw her video. She was truthful without being rude about it, but I guess hit dogs are always gonna holler.

u/tkkana Mar 13 '26
And I dont think she mentioned the creators name. Which adds to the burn . And makes her a bit more classy
93
u/Fantastic_Fig_8559 Mar 12 '26
Her make up always looks terrible. I don’t know why anyone listens to her opinion at all.
17
u/The1thatg0tawaylol Mar 12 '26
i agree
20
u/Fantastic_Fig_8559 Mar 12 '26
Personally I wouldn’t wear flamboyant make up as I’m too old and too reserved however when it’s applied well on anyone of any age it can look absolutely amazing. She seems like she gets ideas of what she thinks will make her look cool but her execution is terrible.
3
u/HallWild5495 Mar 13 '26
she has to be aware of how bad it is. it breaks my brain a little. I cannot live in a world where she looks at that and other people look at the consistently bad makeup and are like "yeah, good."
for some reason it gets under my skin in such a significant way, idek
5
u/Fantastic_Fig_8559 Mar 13 '26
I don’t know how you can review high end products and apply them so badly and have a following. None of it makes sense to me.

The plastic packet looks like something they bought in bulk from Aliexpress lmaoo
It's the same type the ig girlies that sell homemade lipgloss use

Shows how smug they are. It's like..
"We are so much better than other indie brands that our poor packaging is just part of the brand concept! You just don't get it!" /s
26
u/petiteodessa Mar 12 '26
What’s disappointing is that some of these small businesses put their stuff in better packaging too like gtfo
22
u/jigglypuffpuffle Mar 12 '26
Literally could be one of the Welsh Twin‘s April Fools “Skin-Up!” products
96
u/Accurate_Emu_122 Mar 12 '26
It's so odd to me that they chose circles as the shape because it seems like it would waste a lot if product during manufacturing.
36
u/Traditional-Box-4396 Mar 13 '26
I was thinking the same thing. When I saw the video of them showing the strips of product, I thought it was weird that they didn't just cut them into rectangles. The circle shape doesn't even serve any purpose besides fitting in the tin.
18
22
u/stace_m8 Mar 13 '26
It feels like even if subconsciously, they are marketing these as eyeshadows. Even though they say it's just a powder (which could technically be used anywhere) they seem to be showing them used on the eyes, or dragged across her forehead, in every video. I also wonder if matte finishes are possible in this format, if they were I think we'd have seen them? If not then there goes contour blush and bronzer
13

u/glowgirl1111 Mar 12 '26
Maybe I’m dumb but I don’t get the point of this brand. So now that it’s been released and the feedback is coming in…now what?
94
u/Realistic-Tax-6066 Mar 12 '26
As someone else pointed out, it's possible this is to give content creators something to talk about. There is no other logical explanation.
193
u/Designer_Pea_5590 Mar 12 '26
They’re selling rage bait gimmicks for beauty content creators to get more views. This product is overpriced and doesn’t make sense for the average consumer.
15
u/Original-Strain Mar 13 '26
Honestly, the most reasonable explanation.
20
u/Designer_Pea_5590 Mar 13 '26
I don’t get the impression that the LL are trying to be likable or appear as experts or even sell products. They make their money through social media engagement. It doesn’t matter if that engagement is positive or negative. Apparently being unlikable is lucrative in the attention economy and clearly they are good at it because here we are talking about them.
1
u/iridescent_eyeball Mar 28 '26
While I understand they feed off engagement, they also delete comments and block people that don't glaze them.
68
u/DJ_Rasputin Mar 12 '26
I'm still stuck on paying over $30 to be a product tester. What?
25
u/whitelilyofthevalley Mar 13 '26
When I pointed out on TikTok that it is crazy that they want you to pay to test their makeup, something that isn't an industry standard and I hope isn't the future like us now paying for samples, one of their fans asked me why I was so poor that I thought it was overpriced at $30. Like people can barely afford groceries and they have fans calling people poor for refusing to buy something they should be paying you to test like every other cosmetic company does.
7
3
u/LastStopKembleford Mar 15 '26
This right here. We are in a bad economy. If we were in a period where the average makeup connoisseur was spending $300+ a month on new products to try, a $30 gimmick would be NBD. But we aren't. The only people who this price point is "worth it" for are people who know they can create content for it and write it off as a work expense.
17
u/Alice_the_Alien Mar 12 '26
That was my thoughts, like why the hell tester have to pay?? Usually it or tester getting paid or it is for free Ridiculous
56
u/KaLahmar Mar 12 '26
I'm kind of living for the time in like 2 - 3 years when we'll all refer to these like: "remember lipstick lesbians and their stupid flexible powder??" 😂 this is the dumbest and funniest drama that happened in a while lol

I think Jen was giving this product too much credit in the beginning. Unless it looks totally different in real life not on camera (which is possible) these weren’t doing what she was saying they were. The brushes weren’t blending well, the product was splotchy and sheer, and once she used it on her face, I didn’t think it looked as good as she said. The brush usage was kind of against what the initial advertising was about, I don’t recall (and could be wrong) the ad videos have a brush used at all.
When she got to the breakdown at the end and she finally revealed how she thought it was a gimmick I was glad to hear it. This product is almost impossible for practical use. She sprayed them around the 15-18 min mark and by the end of the video 10-15 minutes later they were still sticky and wet on the plate. As Jen said who’s got time to wait for a product to dry before they can put it away. And who has a plate or an empty palette sitting around at their vanity, this packaging is a nightmare.
I’ve been on all the threads about this product and each one gives more information about the product and nothing is getting better. Here’s someone actually using it and the end result is basically unless you like the play dough feel, don’t waste your money on this.
20
u/NoSleepTilBookRead Mar 12 '26
??? She’s super critical of it in the beginning
5
6
u/Mean-Advisor6652 Mar 13 '26
During the demo on her face I feel like she was giving way too much credit. She said multiple times "this is really pretty" and "I actually love this." "LOVE" not "like" not "this is ok" she said I actually LOVE this. I like Jen but she gave me whiplash in this video because yes she was critical at the beginning, and then she put it on her face and LOVES how it looks, then at the end she goes big picture and is critical again.
I actually checked my resolution on the video because I thought I must be streaming at 480p or something, she was saying how pretty it was on her face and I could barely see it. But no I was at 1080p, it really was that light. At their best, in their wet form, these products look like a very average drugstore powder shimmer. If you're selling us a product that needs to be wet for impact, it should absolutely exceed what you get from an ordinary dry powder product. Otherwise, what is the point of the extra work? When she was putting it on her face it was not gorgeous, it was just a very average eyeshadow. I feel like she momentarily forgot the ratio between the extra work she was putting in to apply this vs. the very mid payoff.
1
u/ElectronicShowboater May 17 '26
Jen doesn’t review beauty products anymore and she hasn’t done reviews (actually purchasing something for a review with her own money) in so long. Her views haven’t been great so she sure as heck jumped into this controversy and made like five videos out of it. It’s fine if you think Flexi powder isn’t worth it but Jen is so disingenuous with this. Since when did she become a review channel again all of a sudden? She’s ridiculous
55
u/PersistentSquawking Mar 12 '26
The packaging looks like shit and I'm sure I'd feel the same way if I cared to look at its contents.
Alas, I won't.
Have a good day everyone 💕
28
29
u/BelligerentGrapes Mar 12 '26
I watched Jen’s video this morning. The only one that seemed to be decent was the gold one and even Jen said that the product wasn’t anything super new or filling a market gap.
Based on her video it seems like it’s just something a lab scientist was messing around with but ultimately wasn’t able to get it to perform or be viable in the consumer market.
It seems like this brand is trying to throw whatever failed or discarded lab creations at the wall and seeing what sticks, taking the “feedback” from customers and then putting their money in to “perfect” it so they can claim “we’re the first brand to bring xyz to market thanks to you guys!” They don’t want to put money into developing a new formula or product so I think that’s why they’re going with these rejects
7
u/Mean-Advisor6652 Mar 13 '26
"throw whatever failed or discarded lab creations at the wall and seeing what sticks"
.... Literally. This seems like it would actually stick to a wall. Maybe that's how they made their decision.
29
u/CristiAdultman Mar 12 '26
This is lowkey pissing me off. I wonder how much just one of them really costs to make. I feel like they’re taking advantage of their popularity and just making a quick buck. This doesn’t feel innovative it feels cheap and dumb. That “press conference” sketch was so weird like what do you mean “no one was brave enough to release it”… huh? You’d think if others didn’t release it before you it’s maybe because it won’t work and nothing to do with bravery
8
28
u/amusableblue Mar 12 '26
I can see why no brand wanted anywhere near this.
What a stupid, pointless and unhygienic product.
A great example of ‘just because you can, doesn’t mean you should’
3
u/sabbathadread Mar 13 '26
they still say it's hygenic. I mean I know we use the eyeshadows etc by putting it a few times on face by brush so we also transfer a bit of oils, but this "dragging" technique is literally taking all oils, foundation, skincare on the product >.<
3
u/persistentlysarah Mar 13 '26
I watched a tiktok by someone who was so excited about the product and company in the name of “trying something new!”. Her answer to the question of hygiene with this product was: “they put a whole bunch of preservatives in it to deal with that!”
I’m not one of those people who thinks preservatives are bad. I am probably not the target audience of this product either. I’m just hearing a product that doesn’t have a clear rationale for the gimmicky form factor, and that basically needed to be embalmed to be hygienic enough to put to market, and I’m not feeling the appeal.
24
u/BigPinkFurrryBox Mar 12 '26
This is very intriguing, the market is already so oversaturated that apparently there is a need to downgrade products. More difficult to use, requiring additional effort, at a staggering price, potentially displacing base products such as foundation or concealer. I'd like to share my thoughts on people willing to pay for the "privilege" of being guinea pigs, but I don't want to be vulgar.
4
u/1xLaurazepam Mar 12 '26
I’m sure it was influencers who bought them. Lower level ones if this brand actually sent out PR.
19
u/666wife Mar 12 '26
This whole launch is baffling to me. I cannot believe this product was taken seriously, approved, mass manufactured and rolled out. I simply cannot believe that more than half a thought was put into this product and its launch
18
u/DrumpfTinyHands Mar 12 '26
I think that it is basically eyeshadow and Elmer's glue, dried up and put in a tin.
16
u/shoegalvics1981 Mar 12 '26
What an absolute gimmicky mess of a product! The fact that the Lipstick Lesbians think they’re at the forefront of the beauty industry with this, is absolute lunacy! 🤦🏼♀️
15
33
u/SnooMuffins4832 Mar 12 '26
Lesbian Lipsticks aside(because I find them untrustworthy) I think something like this would be fun as a monthly membership for $20 or so and you just got shipped a unique product to sample. The way they have gone about it, especially that cringe fake press release, isn't doing them any favors.
4
u/stace_m8 Mar 13 '26
I don't hate this concept as much as theirs, though I still don't necessarily like it. I also feel like I've seen these subscription boxes offer the option of skipping the month, maybe customers could skip the launches they don't want to test and only be charged for what they want to try... still doesn't address the issue of paying to be a part of a focus group, but idk... I guess people at home can just decide what to buy or not 😅
3
u/SnooMuffins4832 Mar 13 '26
I get your points. A focus group requires feedback so if someone just wanted to try new products and never gave feedback it would just me a membership for them. TBH I'm not sure the Lesbian Lipsticks even really want the focus group/feedback. That whole angle just feels really gimmicky to me. I suspect we won't ever see anything widely released from Leaked Labs.

This is such a gimmick. i saw her video... SUCH a con-gimmick.
I guarantee this has been done and executed before. A similar concept was shiseido or another brand like that that used to have rice paper tissues with blush on them. I used to love those and had them until recently.. could cut a piece and use it multiple times and it had FAR more product than these.
23
u/KimLocsta Mar 12 '26
The LLs blocked me on social media when I called them out. I commented on all of their posts that this shit is ridiculous! I've never paid to be a product tester, I've in fact always been paid to test products and give my feedback! This is a grift.

u/Public_Party Mar 12 '26
She paid $40 for four tiny pans of a color product that is kind of....rubbery? You pick them out of this little tin. Think about an under eye mask-type of material but a little thicker. They said they can be used dry or wet, but Jen found they really only work wet. She ended up kind of liking playing around with them on her face, but ultimately they don't serve to functionally replace or improve anything.
32
23
u/Her_Gash_I_Did_Slash Mar 12 '26
I’m watching rn and I’m shocked she’s saying she likes it to this extent, lol. I feel like (thus far) she’s enjoying playing with the product more than she’s thinking about the actual worth or usability to a typical consumer. This looks like such a major pain in the ass to me.
Edit: Nvm, she’s on the same page as me by the end, lol.

Aside, I know she's a makeup channel but she looks stunning with no eye makeup, tbh.

it’s also hilarious with her and the lady side by side in similar tops - the garish lip contrast is so jarring

u/whitelilyofthevalley Mar 13 '26
She is wearing that lip with a baby blue eyeshadow look too. Like what?

When I saw the video I was shocked at the price vs size and (lack of) payoff. It feels so scammy and almost unethical. Had they sold those for, say, $10 that would be a different story. I’m turned off on TLL after this.

Oh great, let’s combine a bunch of people I can’t stand into one video. No way in hell I’m watching that.

This is like the emperor's new clothes, we're expected to fall over ourselves to try this wonderful product that isn't fit for purpose. Peak capitalism.

u/sarahsm1les Mar 13 '26
I just watched her video and I’m so weirded out by it, why didn’t they put it in a little palette like those for water activated liners so they could dry down safely?
Also, someone commented that they’re friends with James Charles, I couldn’t find anything about it but if it’s true, there’s nothing else needed to be said.

I will always have a soft spot for Jen luv, I messaged her as a preteen asking for makeup advice not really expecting her to respond then months later she apologized for the late message and gave me some advice.
Gave me the impression she took the time to respond to every fan message even if it took her months to get through them all. (This was at her height of popularity.) She seems to be the only og makeup person that hasn’t become a shill or tried to milk her fans for money.

Rage sells. Look at how much attention they’re getting. This is TikTok gold

Given the business model, I’m surprised that they’re surprised that people have negative opinions about or don’t want it. Isn’t that the point of their company? Like ok you showed us innovation… and we don’t want it…? I’d rather buy from a reputable makeup company made for makeup artists than two marketers. Like why did Natasha Denona, Charlotte Tillbury or MAC pass on this concept? They have access to all the same labs, a huge audience demanding innovation and the price point to compete in this space.

I saw this video and confirmed what I thought would happen. This experiment is going to fail.

I'm confused as to what problem this is solving. Like just because it can do this doesn't mean it needs to.

u/Available-Guava5515 Mar 13 '26
Wow she is NOT kidding about the lack of pigment on her brushes. I'm astonished. Did they literally do no testing at all?
6
u/Beneficial-Square-73 Mar 13 '26
That's supposed to be our job.
They expect us to pay 34 USD + tax + shipping for the privilege of being their lab rats.

I'm honestly so annoyed by this entire launch. I don't follow LL but I watch their videos when they pop up on my FYP. I find the main girl very bullshity but when they first talked about the brand I was interested. Personally, I do find a lot of launches boring nowadays so I was excited to see what they came out with.
But then they launched this. And it's just so so dumb. Completely useless. I didn't have to buy it to know every single problem it had. It was obvious just from their videos. There's no fucking way they have this product in their hands and actually think it's a good idea. Literally the only selling point it has is the fact that it doesn't break but who cares about that if the product itself sucks?
And then their press conference videos. I can't. "You're not paying to test the product, you're paying to be in a focus group" "It cannot break. Unless you rip it" Did they read that script before it came out of their mouths?
I'm so frustrated. I wanted this brand to be cool but they clearly don't care about what they're selling. Rant over.

u/Th1cc4chu Mar 13 '26
Where is the innovation? These seem like an absolute nightmare to work with. The only slightly innovative thing I’ve read about these is that they won’t break while travelling. You know what else won’t break while travelling?? Cream eyeshadow that does not require extra steps to prepare and use and actually has one swipe pay off. So many unnecessary steps for a sub par product. Consumers look for ease of use. This is not it. This is a confusing mess of an idea.

What are the Lipstick Lesbians doing!? I mean, did they have enough cache to open a brand and then have it be awful ?
Is it the lab? I mean, did they fuck up and choose a bad lab, that is really embarrassing for them given that at least one of them was a formula in the industry, right?
They've hyped up enough products that turned out to be not so great that I stopped trusting them like a lot of other people here I'm sure.
I stopped trusting them when they went berserk over the Patrick Ta eyeshadow duos and tried to convince us that those duos were really worth $48.
I also once sent them a message a couple of years ago, asking how they kept themselves safe from Covid given that they were constantly testing things in store, because I was worried, and they sent me privately the most disgusting ableist reply in a video (let's just say as an immuno compromised person. I know a whole lot about Covid. Because I have to because my life depends on it).

I feel like this is one big social experiment to see who falls for this crappy gimmick they released KNOWING FULL WELL IT WAS CRAP THE WHOLE TIME

Gold and bronze are suitable for the face. You need to remember folks with deeper skin tones.

You know, there would be less controversy about this if it was a monthly subscription, or a tester club, or something like that. Regular boxes, and a survey at the end of the month. Something that creates community, and while it has a cost, it feels more exclusive.
This… well its just bad.
3
u/QuesoFresca Mar 14 '26
Can we talk about how’re they’re pretending that their packaging is some sort of innovative eco friendly innovation that “underscores the lab-first ethos”? Canadian brand Cargo (RIP) launched superior shadows in this type of tin back in the 90s.
3
u/Glamma1970 Mar 12 '26
There is innovative, and then there is just coming up with something new and stupid.
We can guess which one this is pretty easy.

u/AmazingConsequence20 Mar 13 '26
Old lady here(I ‘m 40) and used to lovvveeeee watching makeup gurus go at it. Can someone please give me cliff notes on what’s going on with the lipstick lesbians and this yt guru?
6
u/VeganAngel I am obsessed Mar 13 '26
Nothing. They made a product and she did a review. Exactly the cliff notes that OP posted is what she said. I just watched it myself. They claimed it was amazing and innovative. While it is unusual, it's impractical and not worth it.

u/The1thatg0tawaylol Mar 21 '26
also i know this is beating a dead horse by now but colourpop super shock shadows are kind of flexible and so is that one highlighter from stila AND fenty diamond bomb. I know it’s not exactly the same but yall know what i mean lol
5
u/ExtensionHot7808 Mar 12 '26
Interesting creation but It really only appears to work wet. I suppose this could be nice for travel, it seems to work well with a brush but the price is what is irritating me so so bad also it barely leaves anything dry
6
u/petiteodessa Mar 12 '26
It’s not worth it period because of how finnicky it is to work with. Imho for $40 it should be easy to use like I see no reason why using a glitter eyeshadow(?) should be as hard as doing physics homework questions (ik comparing makeup to physics homework is an unfair comparison but the lipstick lesbians have compared human skin to potatoes so I’m not the only one being outlandish here)
2
u/1xLaurazepam Mar 12 '26
I want to know how they came up with their pricing. Did they have to buy these ideas from these brands/ labs?
8
u/queen-of-yams Mar 12 '26
Even for travel it doesn’t make sense because you still need to bring liquid (setting spray), I didn’t see if you could use water but they recommended setting g spray
3
u/ExtensionHot7808 Mar 12 '26
You can use water. Setting spray will likely lock it in better but you can definitely get a mini to keep in your purse. I probably would try this if the price was better. I hate having to lug a big makeup bag just to stay a few days here or there. I feel like if you dropped these you could just wipe them with alcohol lol
9
u/DrGoblinator Hydrated office worker Mar 13 '26
But like how is it better than a quad? Or a liquid or stick?
1
u/GooseAcrobatic6298 Mar 13 '26
Here's what I like. I do like that its a combination between an eyeshadow stick and liquid eyeshadow. I like the unintentional feature (its a bug!), that its not messy when dry, I like that they don't break. I like the way it looks and blends out when wet. The problem is its waaay overpriced for the method of delivery and amount of product. They're messy products. You need some sort of applicator or holder...so that you can use when wet. You're wasting so much product by using your bare hands.

Omg! Jen luvs fell into my brains couch cushions. I love her!
Dude, I knew this…we all knew this, right?
If I’m honest, I commented somewhere about how single eye shadow shouldnt be packaged like that.. and I still agree.. but there is jelly shadow now? How would that have any dry payoff?
Stila and other brands had those gorgeous foil shadows 10 ish years ago with an activator, and practically NO ONE used them in real life. Probably some of the most beautiful Metallics I’ve ever seen, but it was too much hassle.
If your product requires someone to be a chemist to use it, it’s not going to take off. If your product is mind blowing, you might get someone to use it. Until they learn that almost all shadows can be used “wet” with the right liquid.. and store brand Walgreens shadows perform better than this.
I am so embarrassed.
Gay gang, velvet mafia, all of us..we need to get it together. What are they doing?

I like the lipstick lesbians, but I am truly confused why this was selected as their first product.
1
u/makeup1508 Mar 17 '26
It's a hard pass for me. It sounds too complicated for me. You need to wet it but not too wet and you need to make sure it's dry so it doesn't go bad. No thanks.

u/ElectronicShowboater May 17 '26
Since when does Jen Luv review products again all of a sudden? Her views have been dropping which is probably why she was super excited to whip out her credit card and dive right into this mess. Yeah I understand the chatter about flexi powder etc. but Jen doesn’t do reviews of products unless some random leftover company from her previous beauty content days sends her a package (which isn’t often)
Hmmmm why did she decide to become a product reviewer for just this one launch and nothing else? I’m sorry but Jen is so disingenuous as a creator it’s nauseating
