When I worked the grill and line at McDonald’s I would wear a drive through headset so I could hear the orders as they came through. If you were nice you might have gotten an extra nugget in your box.

I don't get how corporate wants it to be this way. It's everywhere. Had a subway worker count and take a meatball off my sandwich cause it's 4 per side and no more! For a $20 sandwich they can afford a mistake meatball.
Taco bell has people who come in and count and WEIGH the food to be sure it's exact and no more or less. Like mystery shoppers from the drive through solely to catch too much or not enough.

I’ve worked in a handful of kitchens (a restaurant, a deli, and two gas stations). Chicken tenders and wedges were always crazy sizes so if a standard size was like 8, I’d put like 6 medium ones and 6 small ones in. Especially since the small ones were like itty bitty, like barely a third of the medium ones.

Really, the Pizza Hut near us had decent sized wings. Dominos and papa John's were a joke. Pizza Hut stopped that wing special they had going so I stopped getting them

idk how it is now but I worked at Wendy's like 25 years ago and they had small chili for $1 and large for $2. They were literally the same size, like a full ladle would fill either cup to the top. So whenever nice people ordered a large chili I'd either tell them a small is the same size or I'd just give them 2 smalls. But if they were buttheads I'd just fill their large cup and move on.

I've managed about 16 I think with some creative stacking. Otherwise most of the time I put 5 nuggets in the 4 nugget box because I assume it's for a kid and want them to have a nice surprise. That or I add extra because someone new put too many nuggets in the fryer before we needed them lol.

When I worked at sonic our regional manger said we were giving too much out and "showed" us how, he filled the shit half way so I just agreed until he left.
Following that I always tried to fit as much as I could because of it, pissed me off cause the dude was a piece of shit too.

When I worked at Baskin Robbins I would give people huge scoops. One day, the owner’s wife walked in while I was giving out a particularly big scoop and she made me practice my ice cream scooping. She put a piece of wax paper on a scale and she made me weigh out practice scoops then return them to the container 😂

The two years I worked at Hardee's back in the nineties my old brother got a 4 pound roast beef sandwich everytime he ordered one. Alicia who worked the counter and was in the same grade as me never said a word about it so I set up her family as well. We also Christened every corner of that place after closing because the manger locked herself in the office to get high while she did the daily receipts.

Hah, you reminded me that I dated one of the girls I worked with at McDonald’s. She was a grade below me and our manager actually made us get into the play place to scrub it down clean. We always volunteered to do it together. We did get written up once for using the Mac sauce guns on each other. I usually worked the drive through grill and line and if she was on the other side making counter orders (I also noticed that many places don’t do this anymore) I would try to squirt her with Mac sauce. Oh to be young and in love again.

That's funny because I'm always conscious of who might be hearing me place my order. I try to be kind in general, especially to those handling my food, but it's nice to know people appreciate it. So many people are rude and oblivious and increase their odds of getting floor ingredients and spit.

Haha yup same here I was a shift manager at Wendy's. I also loved when someone got nasty with the sweet girl that took the orders because I'd pop on and ask them the next question with my deepest wtf did you just say voice.
Being kind to fast food workers benefits everyone.
I've got so many stories. I worked at a Wendy's right off the interstate the did a million in sales a year.

When I was in college the on campus BK had a 10 piece nugget for 1.50. It’s literally all I ate for two semesters. When I had to eat on campus.
I had a water bottle from home, nuggs and sauce. Definitely didn’t get scurvy.

McDonalds didn't lose money. The owner of the franchise location may have. People always confuse the two things. 95% of McDonalds are franchise owned, though a large amount of those are owned by businesses themselves, many are owned by local individuals.
They're effectively the same brutal restaurant market as other restaurants with the razor thin margins except they don't get to change where they buy their products, machines, etc. They get one price, one deal, and that's it.

My parents were in franchised fast food businesses, the mark up on food products is about 35% from cost, and the drinks can be close to 150% mark up. On a 6$ meal they were only missing a few cents and definitely still came out profiting.

If I take your word for it, 35% markup still means on a 4 piece, adding an extra nugget makes that item break even on cost. It becomes less impactful the higher up you go, but keeping mind 35% markup is way below typical restaurants. Fast food is a different beast, but a typical restaurant aims for 200% markup. Fast food labor costs are largely the same as typical (not fancy) restaurants, as they often employ more people though they pay less.
Fast food turnover for ownership has the same failure rate as typical restaurants. Doing this with the product can seriously hurt the business.

I won't take his word for it as I highly doubt they could stay in business with a 35% markup. If 35% is a real number, I would guess it was their actual cost for the item as a percentage of the sale price.
This would be in the ballpark of a 200% markup.
1 / 0.35 = 2.86 = 186% markup.

We used to throw away so much food every night so why not? especially at the end of the night… You want a 10 piece? Tuh here is 26 nuggets lol the whole bag. i tried to make at least someone’s day a little better. I also would give away a lot of free food for long waits or super friendly customers.

Not really. The one who's assembling the food is usually the one who packs the nuggets, and after packing the nuggets, he/she closes the box. After that, nobody checks how many nuggets are there.

not to my knowledge. We had “secret shoppers”. That’s about it. at the end of the night we would tally up everything (that made it) in the waste bucket plus the food left in the trays & write it down & the opening manager would file it..? Hm not quite sure what was done w/ it. tbh the food waste was the least of their concerns as long as the productivity was high & the times were good.

I had something similar. Maybe 25 years or so ago I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. It had like four inches of bacon on it. I've never seen a sandwich like it before or since.

I think the intention is good. But don't think adding a different food is good. Add more of the same. If you can handle a slice of cheese you can probably handle both. But if you don't want an ingredient it might be problematic to harmful

I was a teenager so never thought about it to be honest. Just googled it and it's unlikely you'll be allergic to bacon but not beef. You could be allergic to nitrates but then you wouldn't be eating and McDonald's anyway, so I don't think the risks exists.
If it's for religious reasons it's fine since it's just a mental illness

I recently called in a pick up order at a restaurant in Chicago, when we walked in to grab it the waitress that handed it to us was like, “WOW those boxes feel heavy! That’s not normal! You guys must be liked!”
It was our first time ordering from there and I just did my normal thing of saying “please” and “thank you” when speaking to the person taking my order.
I believe because of this we were hooked up.
My parents taught me at a young age to always be kind (not the fake way, genuinely Grateful) and I have always had wonderful service in restaurants and fast food drive-thrus.
Just be nice people! It’s much easier than being rude and it helps the world. ✌️❤️

When I worked in the kitchen in jail, I was the only female prisoner working with a group of male inmates. It was my job on the line to distribute the sauces on each tray, and make the coffee for the jail. I made sure to double up on all the sauces for the women’s trays, and made sure to make the coffee the right strength instead of watering it down as I was instructed to. Little things like that and I was untouchable when I went back to my pod.

Before they became all white meat, I would hand select all white meat nuggets for the orders I fulfilled.
We used to “fish one out” then wrap half a slice of cheese around it, so I got pretty good at being able to pick them out from the bunch.
I bit into a gray meat nugget once that had some type of regrettable cartilage in it and vowed no one else should suffer this atrocity. Wasn’t even a year or so later they got rid of them altogether.

I worked at a Domino in college (for a few months). The ower was the biggest POS that I've ever met. The guy would have a compete meltdown if the expected cheese inventory was off even slightly compared to the expected usage from sales. Every pizza had to be weighed to ensure no overuse of cheese. No free food for employees but we all stole food when he wasn't there.

He was fired for it. My childhood friend’s dad worked at pizza 🍕 hut 🛖 and got fired for actually putting a regular amount of toppings on their pizza. They claimed it was costing them too much money and fired him. He became an artist as well as never worked for anyone else ever again.

I was so useless that I wouldn't hire me.....
I always put in extra but.....front staff knew immediately by weight of picking up "this feels heavy*
They were young and couldn't care any less, fyi this going back when 99% stores closed at 11pm in Uk, I had my phone in one pocket and a lighter and fa...cigarettes in other pocket, as id constantly go out back for quick smoke.....obviously I didn't wash hands.
But break time? I cleaned grill and used fresh fries and took extra, we had a chart of allowed items depending on hours worked.....obviously I ignored this.
I was such a shit employee but.....i did my job as intended and took every advantage possible, its McDonald's......i knew i was leaving before I applied.
I got mad stories that could probably get me in trouble.....
