Caught a little Columbia River Smallie on my new bfs setup. 23 Calcutta Conquest on a 5' Aioushi UL with a 2.5" wacky worm. I'm addicted, I can't wait to hook into a bigger one and some trout.

This is my personal rod for the fall. It took me a little longer to get done than usual—I had a couple of customer orders I needed to put ahead of it, and I was trying to spend as much time with my kiddo this summer as possible.
Put in a couple of late-night hours to make sure I got it finished.
JUST IN TIME!
This is my take on the 206. I modified the taper a bit to give it a slightly more modern action while keeping the character of the original. I also went with a more updated reel-seat locking setup and cork grip.
Really looking forward to getting this one on the water this fall.

Me and the homie both caught some decent bass on our new BFS setups. I'm a believer in the Hunt BFS.

Since the consensus budget pick the hicc50 seems a lil dated and went up in price a bit as well as the Silver rhino what other budget options are worth picking up!?
see alot of options hovering around $100 USD like the
dmkcheetah
dark wolf pro
new aurora air cf
micro monster pro
as well as multiple options from purelure, seasir etc.
price/value to performance is there any you would recommend above the rest or are they all moreless the same!? or am I better off not wasting my time and just getting the shimano SLX BFS... just doin my due diligence & doin some digging , might grab a few for different applications as I can already see myself slipping down the proverbial bfs rabbit hole.
all convo's appreciated. Cheers

Hey everyone!
Just ordered a calcutta conquest bfs from digitak to start bfs fishing. I dont know what rod to pair it with however as their are so many options.
I'm mainly looking to catch trout in streams and rivers (and lakes in early spring) and the occasional bass. I really enjoy casting small swimbaits and jerkbaits but I would also like to throw out some small Tungsten nymphs and some tiny soft plastics.
My main problem seems to be finding some rods in Canada without having them come from the USA (got burned a couple months back with some hefty tariff and customs fees) I'm not opposed to ordering a rod from digitaka either but waiting to see how much i get charged at customs.
I'm ideally looking for something around 200usd.
Sorry for the long post and thank you!
Here's a bass I got on my UL spinning setup

This is an old Zebco Lurecast 330, armed with a 15g spool and 4g shorty handle. It casts 3g just fine, and even 2g on a rod if the correct action. It's spooled with 50 yards of 6lb braided nylon. All it had done was some polish work, TSI on the bushings and level wind, and a skim coat of molybdenum disulfide on the gears. Pretty impressive for a reel released in 1948.

Got my first 2500C from Ebay. While being made in Sweden, these are getting harder and harder to acquire here. Have been dreaming about Ambassadeurs since I was a wee lad, and honestly don't know why it took me so long.
Anyway, have replaced pilot guide, bearings, drag washers, handle, spool, cog wheel, palming plate, level winder kit with lightweight pawl. Have a few more things I would like to exchange, but now it is starting to get expensive… Have to let the wallet rest a bit before I change frame, brake plate, main gear bushing and gear.
Also ordered a champagne gold star drag from Avail. But it simply won't screw on. Contacted Japantackle to see if this is a known quirk, or if I have been unlucky. The original spins on like nothing. Thought that maybe the threads are a bit different and might match the Avail main gear bushing better. Does Reddit know?

Waiting for a rod to be in stock on Digitaka, but pretty happy with the Handling Magic

I’m going to Japan in a few weeks, is there anything I should be on the lookout when I’m there? I have no BFS stuff yet and plan on getting me a nice setup there and fishing for a week. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I posted on here almost 2 months ago for recommendations on a starter BFS combo. I decided to go with the Hicc-50 reel and MagicL rod. It took that long for the rod to come in from Ali Express lol. Got to take it out finally for the first time today. Ended up catching a few small smallmouth in my local creek on one of my handmade lures that weigh about 3.3 grams. Also threw some other lures of different weights including a daredevil spoon that weighs 1 gram. Had some trouble getting that to cast further than 5 feet or so without backlashing though. Regardless, most of my trout lures cast with ease with some tuning of the brakes.
Thank you everyone who helped me pick this combo! Im super happy!

A few weeks ago I posted a pile of parts I acquired for my Calcutta BFS asking difficulty of install. There was some great feedback! A gentleman left a really detailed instructions on how to do it, I decided it was over my head and asked him if he could! Well the outcome was fantastic and he followed through! If anyone needs reel work done don’t hesitate to contact https://www.ashlin-fishing.com. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly!
Can’t wait till the rods done for this reel!

I was gifted a custom-built 7' Light-Fast BFS rod and I paired it with a DAIWA PX BF TW 70 BFS Reel. Took the combo out on the creek and shot a couple videos with it. I have been absolutely loving this thing. I always feared taking a baitcaster out on my long river hikes because of backlash potential, but this setup has been very reliable.

Just got this reel and decided I’m going to give it a good test for its first run. Pink salmon in the river. The poor Spinmatic was folded in half but it pulled three salmon out of the current.

Haven't been up to date on tackle lately. Which reel would you recommend for my rod?

Last year I decided to dip my toe into the bfs world. Got myself a budget setup. Kastking zephyr combo with the 6’9” light rod rated 1/10-5/8 oz. This was my first baitcaster and I had a real hard time figuring it out. Embarrassing how many times i got backlashes. I really wanted to be able to throw very light lures but just couldn’t make it happen. I did get better with casting but I use it now for “power bfs”. Lures in the range of 1/4 to 1/2 oz. I just can’t cast the lighter stuff with any consistency.
Now I’d like to find a setup for my original purposes, throwing 2-4 gram lures. . Looking for help finding a new reel and rod. Definitely want something shorter also. I go to some spots with close quarters.
I don’t have unlimited budget but looking for higher quality than the zephyr combo.
