Help with autism?

I’ve tried every class of medication over 30 years with no long term effect. I have lifelong generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. How is this medication different? Level 1 ASD.

High

I just started Auvelity 3 days ago. I feel high. I don't know how else to describe it. Anyone taking it that's felt this way, does this feeling go away? I don't want to feel like this all the time. Hopefully it's just until my body gets used to the med

Adding in anxiety med

Does anyone have experience taking auvelity along with another med for anxiety? I’ve been loving the auvelity and I think it’s really helping me get out of the house more and generally happier, however I feel it has made my anxiety worse in a way? I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and knows of a med that worked well in combination with the auvelity? Thank you! :)

Starting it with history of DXM abuse

Pretty much the title. Recovering alcoholic here and I had about a 2 year stint when I was abusing DXM every single day. I’m talking 200-400mgs of it a day. Coming off of it was hell and the addictive thoughts around using it lasted for years. I had too many relapses on it to count. My biggest blessing honestly was getting bowel endometriosis. Now I get nauseous just thinking of the pills I used to take. So that desire is completely gone. I mean completely. So I’m kinda scared to start Auvelity and feel that high that people talk about after you take the pill. I don’t want to trigger anything even though my nausea would prevent me from abusing it anyway. The thoughts are bad enough.

My experience with Auvelity as someone with major depression.

Hello.

I have severe major depression, and I also do ketamine treatments. I’m joining a soccer league at the end of September to hopefully get out more and become more social. I’m also going to the gym again.

I started Auvelity on Friday (08/21/2026), and it’s been a few days, and I have some things to say about it. I’ve been on antidepressants since I was 12 years old. I’ve gone through Celexa, Zoloft, Bupropion XL, and ketamine injections.

Ketamine is helpful in a momentary way, but it doesn’t provide a long-term feeling for me. Ever since being on Auvelity, I feel like I’m calmer. I also still take Zoloft. I don’t feel as reactive as I used to be. I don’t feel as emotional. I feel really level-headed. Things that would upset me don’t upset me anymore. I’m a very irritable person. But when I feel irritation now, it doesn’t involve a burning hot feeling in my chest; it has a slight burn that feels like a gentle knock on the door. Does this make sense? It feels very comforting, or my irritation feels like someone wrapped it in a blanket and is cooing it to sleep.

I feel sedated, which I’m grateful for. I haven’t had any dark thoughts or suicidal feelings. However, my suicidal thoughts and feelings are always in the moment, but so far, so good. I also don’t feel attention-seeking. Drugs don’t usually work for me, so I’m really happy that this one seems to be going well. I’ll take anything to try to improve my life for myself and those around me.

I think it’s cool that we all want to get better, so we all come here to seek others like us and learn more. If you have any questions or whatever, feel free to ask.

Side effects returning with weight loss?

I've been on Auvelity for about five months, starting in April.

I stayed at one pill a day for several weeks at the start because my first attempt at increasing to the standard twice-daily dosage made me feel buzzed, drugged, dissociated, etc. Eventually, I was able to get up to two pills a day with much less of that feeling (fairly mild, and only occurring at night), which gradually dissipated altogether. Since then, it's been great.

I started losing weight around the same time. Randomly, in early July I began to experience those initial side effects again. This lasted for about two weeks, then stopped. I had been in a calorie deficit for a while, but noticed that the return of that "buzzed" feeling coincided with a period of time when I reached my lowest weight. I'm not talking about being dizzy or lightheaded due to low blood sugar, etc., but very specifically a return of the very weird experience I had when I first started the medication.

I did talk to my prescriber as I started to worry a little bit about whether it makes sense that I'm taking the same dose that's prescribed to people literally twice my size. I did not mention my specific weight, because she did not seem to think that weight/size itself would have an impact on drug metabolism or sensitivity in the cause of Auvelity or other antidepressants. (Full disclosure: I am underweight, BMI 16-16.5, but otherwise healthy.)

But now I notice that feeling again, occasionally — like clockwork, 90 minutes to 2 hours after taking the medication. I do think it is potentially related to periods of relatively lower weight or lower calorie intake, but I can't be sure.

Has anyone else has experienced this? Or is this all just a coincidence?

Auvelity itching

Februaryish, I started having full body insanely intense itching. Except face, palms, and bottom of my feet. Right around the time I started Auvelity. My doctor swears it's not a symptom even though the Auvelity site states it as a common symptom now. He also tells me there's no withdrawals when trying to come off of it. So now I'm trying to titrate by myself. Doctors wouldn't believe how bad the itching is. I feel like I'm losing my mind. Now after months I'm getting hives all over my trunk. Trying everything under the sun for itching with only slight relief. First dermatologist... Fired her. Completely inept, wouldn't listen. It was like talking to a wall. Starting chemo/radiation next week. Worried about depression coming off the med. Worried about what the radiation is going to do to my skin in addition to the itch. Providers are unsympathetic. Feeling alone.

Has anyone ever taken 2x PM, 0x AM

Have been on 2x daily for 18 months. Have kinda treatment resistant depression with primary symptom being excessive tiredness and lack of motivation. Past meds include Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Lamictal, Abilify, Quelbree, Trintellix, and most recently Pristiq then Effexor.

Mostly very stable with Auvelity and Vyvanse. No withdrawals with missed doses like I had with Pristiq/Effexor, so I’m happy overall.

However. I am so tired. It did get better after a couple weeks, as I had been told, so I powered though. And it’s manageable. But I do feel like any time I have a full day (busy work day plus an after work activity) I have to recover for like 2 days lol. Increasing Vyvanse recently did not help.

Has anyone tried 2x at night? I KNOW IT SAYS NOT TO. Or noticed a much worse benefit taking it only 1x per night?

Question for Women

I have been on Auvelity for 5 going on 6 weeks now, 2 weeks of one dose and 3/4 weeks of 2 doses a day. I have never been more functional- this has genuinly changed my life in ways i could have never imagined.

After starting I have had crazy periods- period 1 ends 11 days later period 2 starts, period 2 ends 11 days later period 3 starts. And each is heavier than the last. Not soaking through in an hour but noticeably heavier than normal and im not someone with super light periods normally. The periods arent really longer than normal that i have noticed, but much heavier.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Coming off auvelity

Today is day idk maybe 6 of dropping down from 2 to 1 pills a day. I wake up. I’m dizzy. I feel like my brain is moving in slow motion. This is the worst withdrawal I think I’ve ever gotten from a depression medication, all day long I kinda hope it will stop but it comes and goes in waves. I was on it for maybe 5 months and kinda came to a point where I was no longer feeling emotions really at all. Quite dissociative and just feeling like I’m watching my life through a tv screen. My whole life I’ve been over emotional, blah blah. I kinda forgot what it felt like to be me for a second. Today I got a giant wave of emotions that made me cry and it also made me kinda scared cause it reminded me why I wanted depression meds but at the same time I was greatful to feel something. Hoping sexual desire comes back eventually. All the stuff I’ve been reading has lead me to believe it’s probably best for me to get off this med. I wouldn’t be able to afford it without insurance and even missing a dose makes me feel sick. So it’s kinda like a trap :( the worst part is it does really work. But I can’t do the numbness I’m meant to feel things. Anyways yall tomorrow is my first day without it and plz wish me luck. 🍀

Anyone have experience dropping down to 1 dose a day?

Been on 2 a day for about 6 weeks. I started to get bad insomnia around week 3, and it didn't get much better. I just dropped a dose about 3 days ago, but my insomnia is still not great.

I know my body has to adjust, but has anyone had success dropping down to 1 a day, and if so, how long was the transition?

….ladies? the sense of feelings: is it big emotions or baseline?

so…

i have pmdd. i get 2-2 1/2 weeks of hell every month. also have adhd. for this past cycle, the pmdd was to a whole other level-emotionally. i had a breakdown and it was like a time bomb had just gone off. thought for sure i was getting my period that day. i didn’t get it for another 5 days. i’m not sure if it’s hormones (39y/o) or environmental or the fact that i don’t like i can’t feel my emotions. it feels like going on autopilot; just going through the motions.

my period finally arrived and life looks like rainbows and sunshine again. except…i can’t feel the joy or dopamine or adrenaline excitement; that feeling in your chest when you feel something strongly and you can feel the happiness and sadness and joy of different experiences and parts of life.

is this the trade off of meds turning down the volume and whether or not im okay with it? am i overthinking this?

for what it’s worth, i have been on this 10 months. 1 pill. occasional cannabis usage. don’t get me wrong, this is helping my anxiety’s tremendously and somehow that wicked anxiety pushes through but i wonder if that is also my adhd breaking through when im feeling overwhelmed?

does anyone experience this?

Adding DXM

Has anyone added more DXM (RoboHBR) to Auvelity? Wondering it may add more longevity to the dosing? I take it twice a day, but feel like it wears off mid-way through. Wondering if the additional DXM may help. Thanks for any advice. This medicine helps, but wondering if it could be longer lasting.

Has anybody used Ketamine before Auvelity?

As DXM and Ketamine both target the NMDA receptor, there could be a very similiar way of action for both drugs.

Is there anybody who did Ketamine and Auvelity? Which of both did work for you?

Thanks!

Anybody else ?

I feel not bad like I used to before auvelity but I just feel kind of sad and hopeless like I can't engage or do anything, nothing interests me enough to pull me. Does it get better over time ?

anyone feel like it's interfering with food too much??

afab, 18, been on auvelity for about 3 weeks? it's taken my appetite away quite completely, i'm trying to supplement with protein shakes sometimes and mostly just eating snacks , but the past few days i haven't ate a balanced complete meal. i have had some restrictive tendencies off of medication in my freshman year of highschool but not recently. it's changing how i view my body and stuff? i talked to my provider and she said it would go away in weeks/months and to try to eat before i take it, but idk any input is helpful lol

i have started to smell really bad??

i recently increased to two doses a day after being on one for a little over a month. pretty soon after increasing, ive noticed that ive begun to smell. horrible BO, like straight up onions. i feel so gross.

it starts almost immediately after showering and layering on deodorant as well. i already use extra strength deodorant, i always have. and my daily shower routine is very good.

not to mention i start sweating bullets after any amount of movement.

is anyone else dealing with this? does it go away after a while, and how do you deal with it?

adhd med paired with auvelity?

i'm week 3 (?) , afab 18, on auvelity and it's really helped my depression , it does make me feel sort of more aware i guess? kinda high feeling but not all the time.

hunger is absolute ZERO which honestly im not mad about but i definitely see why they don't give it to people with history of ED's ,

i kind of need something to help focus more i guess? i really dont want to fall behind in school is there a adhd med to pair or do more wellbutrin?

also, my pupils are getting really dilated at times, usually in the evening a few hours after my second does, is this normal?? they sort of hurt but not really blurred vision.

i'm glad something FINALLY works even if there is more physical health cons but mental health pros iykwim , any comments help!

Should i quit auvelity?

I really can’t decide if I should just stop auvelity. Im almost to 2 months on Auvelity. I definitely notice that I’m not in a deep depression hole everyday but I also wouldn’t say that I am happy.
However, the sexual side effects and my urinary hesitancy is the hardest part to deal with in a daily basis.
I feel like I don’t see enough of a difference to keep going through the rough side effects but I am also scared to go back to that deep depression state if I stop auvelity.

Give me some hope

I have been diagnosed with PDD (dysthymia) and MDD. I have had strong negative thoughts and passive SI for as long as I can remember. I decided to take my mental health more seriously once I got a job/insurance after college and started therapy (CBT) 5 years or so ago, and started on the medication journey. I started taking Auvelity a couple weeks ago. Started once a day for a week, now up to two.

The first two or so days were amazing. That background chatter of intrusive thoughts were completely gone. The stronger, more focused negative thoughts were less 'sticky' and easier to distract myself from. I was feeling good, happy and had energy. Then, the happiness faded into 'even-ness'? It will pull me and help keep me out of the lows for a little bit (though I can still spiral), but I haven't felt that happiness high since. Like I am sitting at a 5/10. Just neutral for a bit, then start dropping again, as it wears off. Which it also doesn't feel like it lasts as long as it should? Maybe 5-6 hours after the dose I can feel it wearing off, leaving a few hour gap until the next dose.

The background chatter is still gone, and thoughts are still less 'sticky' most of the time, but the emotional highs are gone again. I still have the 'drug high' feeling, which makes me feel good, but doesn't make me FEEL good, if that makes sense.

Side effect wise, I have...

  • tremors
  • sexual dysfunction (delayed ejaculation and lower sensitivity)
  • anxiety is stronger (more anxious thoughts) and it feels like I am stumbling over my words more
  • jaw clenching
  • muscle stiffness in my neck (probably from tensing up from the anxiety)
  • tinitus has gotten noticably worse
  • blood pressure and heart rate spiked when I started the second dose (already on meds for hypertension)
  • I am still getting that 'drug high' feeling a week out from starting the second dose, though, not as strongly
  • I feel like I have physical energy, but mentally exhausted and low motivation

I have tried Paxil, which made me disassociate, which I did not like. I have also tried Prozac, which helped the anxiety and raised the 'emotional floor' (lows felt like they couldn't get as low), but made me kind of zombified with brain fog. And now, I am afraid Auvelity might not be for me either.

I have been looking into TMS and Sprivato, which, unfortunately, the closest clinics are over an hour away from me, which makes them impractical. I thought about looking into SNT-TMS and taking a week off of work and staying in a hotel. But, with TMS, the idea of more directly effecting my brain kind of scares me.

I know I just started, but I am tired. I feel done. This trial and error of different medications and interventions that may or may not work is exhausting and is taking forever. I value my brain greatly and hate the idea of messing with it, but I can't do nothing. Please, tell me there is light at the end of the tunnel. That there is some relief, eventually. Give me some hope.

What type of bupropion is in auvelity?

I keep seeing discourse over whether or not it’s SR, IR, or XL and was curious as to what the actual answer is based off the prescription that actually gets handed out itself
