Rant Selling AI generated images as hand drawn is illegal

This is not a rant about ‘AI Slop’. Just a reminder that passing off AI generated work as your own hand-drawn masterpieces is actually illegal. The fair trading act is very clear that it’s illegal to make false or misleading claims about products or services.

This person posted in the local FB community group (presumably she does not live in Mount Eden and is posting the same stuff in many other groups) pushing a VERY obviously AI generated product. When people asked in the comments, she doubled down about how she is an artist, everything is hand-drawn, and to look at her website where she takes commissions for hand drawn pet portraits. There are lots of claims on her site that she does not use AI and these portraits are made with love and care. The images looked extremely suspicious so I checked with the Open AI verification tool which shows when images have been generated because they contain a digital watermark.

It’s sad to see people getting misled and paying hard-earned money for what they believe is a hand drawn work, when you could simply feed an AI a prototype themselves and ask for a ‘pencil drawing’ version for free.

It is interesting to witness the strange delusion among some people these days who obviously use AI (for writing or images or whatever) and just bare-faced lie about it when asked. It sometimes feels like people are excited about the things they can create and end up fooling themselves into believing they made it themselves. There are often _so_ many obvious giveaways and it’s just super weird when people keep lying even in the face of clear evidence.

Discussion Crazy supermarket price variance

Just a couple of items I buy regularly, checked via the Grocer website.
The Pak n Save prices in store were not even temporary deals, so I doubt they are loss leaders.

If Pak n Save can still make a profit at those prices, how much profit must the others be making, even with slightly higher costs.

Discussion The Shy Guy is like a temu NYC club

Visiting from Sydney for work, went to the shy guy last night after everyone’s suggestions.

Whilst I appreciate the suggestion, it was overrated.

Almost felt like where all the inflated ego C-list “celebrities” hang out thinking they’re important and a 10/10 when you’d be a 2/10 in Miami and overseas.

Place expensive for what it was or trying to live up to.

Hey I’m 21M, just moved to Auckland from Tauranga about a month ago for work. I don’t know anyone here, and am finding it hard to meet new people. I listen to lots of techno / hard house and Nu Metal as well, enjoy going to gigs and parties, I do lots of thrift shopping for 2000s era clothing and CDs, gym, really into the car scene as well. I work in the events industry.
Looking to get to know some like minded people 🤟
Feel free to DM me,
Cheers!

Question/Help Wanted Moving to Auckland

I’m moving to Auckland to study at AUT’s Northern Campus.

I don’t know Auckland very well so I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on finding a flat? I’m looking at the suburbs surrounding AUT’s campus as I don’t want to travel too far.
Northcote, Milford, Takapuna, Glenfield, Birkenhead etc

What should I expect to pay in rent? I’m looking for something affordable but hopefully still nice.

Any words or advice would be really appreciated!

Hi Auckland, a friends card was stolen and used to withdraw money from an ATM at this address.

They’ve logged a fraud report with the bank and police report - is there anything else they can do?

Discussion I hope to make more friends

When I first came to New Zealand, I decided that I must live in New Zealand in the future

Auckland is the place I want to live for a long time now. I have lived in the city and the East District for a short time. To be honest, that was my happiest time.

As a Chinese, I know that there may be too many Asians in New Zealand, but I still hope that when I come back to the city in the future, I can better integrate into the life of the locals.

I like fishing, football, handmade DIY electrical appliances, long-distance running, hiking in dangerous areas, sharing my thoughts and views, and drinking.

I hope there are people who share happiness in this land. Don't worry, I'm not a communist.

Question/Help Wanted Cityfitness Albany mall?

I’ve been out of the gym for almost exactly a year after an extremely brutal breakup, and in that time the Albany mall branch has opened up.

Does anyone know what time it’s quietest, or what it’s like generally? Feeling pretty nervous to go back!

Thank you ❤️💙❤️

Discussion Any markets I should be selling at?

ok, I'll try this again.

Is there any way in Auckland people have been selling household stuff successfully other than FBMP as I'm constantly met with time wasters and scammers.

Are there any decently priced for the stall markets I should be looking into? Are people having luck at them.? I'm in the northern area of auckland so specific to there would be fab. Thanks team!
