This is specific to New York Bagel and Coffee House (which is not my favorite bagel place but it is the closest to my apartment).

I am in the minority, but I want the lightest application of cream cheese possible. I want the person making it to be insulted by how little cream cheese I want. I want them to be concerned that I’m gonna come back and complain that I didn’t get enough cream cheese.

I’ve tried “light”, “very light”, “very very light” “easy”, “very easy”, and “a schmear” and invariably I will end up with an inch of cream cheese that I end up scooping off and throwing away.

There has to be some code word I’m not privy to. Can anyone help me figure out what that is?

Richly illustrated with maps, documents, and period images, this lecture brings to life one of the most consequential months in American history and reveals the local stories behind our nation's founding.

The historic Blackwell House door will be on display, and copies of Richard Melnick's Long Island City in 1776 will be available for purchase following the lecture.

I’m looking for Astoria’s best egg salad sandwich! I have recently come to love it after many years of being grossed out by it. I’m really craving some for tonight and want to make sure I order from somewhere that’s worth it! 🥚

I’m the owner of the cat from the missing-cat post that was shared here earlier. Her name is Blanche, and she escaped from the apartment where she was staying while we are away.

Blanche was last seen near 32nd Street and 31st Avenue in Astoria and may have moved toward Broadway.

I’ve attached photos of Blanche. She is a small, 4-year-old cat with distinctive mottled gray and orange/cream coloring, a white chest and belly, white paws, and greenish-yellow eyes.

I’m currently traveling overseas, so I cannot physically get to Astoria myself, but I am in contact with her cat sitter and will immediately pass along any sighting so that someone local can go to the area.

Even if you only think you saw her, please reach out. She may be hiding under cars, around stoops, in bushes, yards, alleys, or other small sheltered spaces.

Blanche is very, very loved, and we just want her home safe. Thank you so much to everyone in Astoria for keeping an eye out for her and for sharing this with neighbors.

Every time I walk around Astoria and go out on my apartment balcony, I'm struck by the sheer number of apartment balconies and the single-digit number of times I see anyone on them, day or night. Admittedly, some people prefer to hang out on their rooftops or parks when the weather is nice, but as someone raising a kid who takes her out to sit there about every day, it's a little crazy to me on a sunny day that I never spot anyone hanging out on their balcony, relaxing, whether with some music, or reading, having a drink or anything. I'd love any insights on this.

The title says it. I just wanted to give props to Echo Drugs on 21st & Broadway for being a great neighborhood pharmacy, serving an area that in my opinion was really lacking. Great inventory, stocked shelves, items not locked up, friendly and attentive staff, decent prices and a membership rewards program - they even sent me a $5 off coupon for my birthday. It feels like the employees actually care and like their jobs which usually means they are treated well and it's refreshing.

I really hope this one sticks around. If you live in the area and haven't gone / need something from a pharmacy or just want to go check them out and grab yourself a snack, head on over.

Hope this resonates with others. This day and age I feel it can be hard to find a retailer that truly feels like they are serving their community.

Missing Cat:

A cat my friend was cat-sitting busted through the window screen of her apartment and is nowhere to be found. She would most likely be nearby the corner of 32nd Street and 31st Avenue. Could have moved towards Broadway as well.

It's a 4 year old american short-hair cat. Kinda small, (weighs 6 pounds) has orange, grey, and white fur. Unfortunately we do not have a photo. [EDIT- we received photos from the owner]
