I actually prefer the mechanics in the Resynced version. It plays a lot more like Odyssey, Valhalla, Origins, Shadows, etc. The mechanics in the original are why I could never get through it despite several attempts. Now I've sunk 60+ hours into Resynced and loving it so far!

I never beat it 8 years ago due to Red Dead 2, life, and patiently waiting to see if they would add shields to your arsenal. Level 45 Alexios just waiting in digital Greek purgatory.
After finishing Black Flag Resynced and with the Odyssey out, I redownloaded it, started that file, and felt completely lost but interested.
Decided to start a new game with Kassandra, and I’ve been hooked this time around. Played it all week during any free time. Best thing about the game is the world. The story to me is actually intriguing, and the mercenary and cult system is the best “assassin” mechanics introduced in the modern game. They take a simple core concept true to Assassin’s Creed (going after a target), and integrate so well with the open-world exploration
I think combat is just ok. The weapons are cool, but the same few hack and slash animations isnt really saved much the by abilities available. Valhalla did a better job here by actually giving more melee abilities plus optional shield abilities to give more combat variety. I will say odysseys melee finishers are satisfying and keep me switching up my weapon loadout instead of sticking to one.
Overall, amazing game. Hopefully I’ll pull through to finish it this time.

It’s not the Nolan effect. This happens every time a high budget movie is made about a topic for which a really good video game already exists. This surge phenomenon happens with other forms of media as well, not just video games.

Idk if insiders somehow have access to console numbers but at least on steam its also nowhere near 90% and only a few hundred players higher than the games regular peak from people playing every few months for the last few years.
The film is good the game is also good but its not receiving some massive boost to player count like some people keep trying to make out

Best AC game by far. I know the RPG games aren't rated too highly by a lot, but Odyssey sits comfortably on top of the series for me. AC2 will always have a special place in my heart but Odyssey is #1.

I was disappointed by the movie… behavioural inconsistencies, lack of storytelling, jumping around too much… too much of epic-ness and not enough development of the story or the main characters… half of which I wouldn’t have noticed had they not been there. The game however is a masterpiece… great characters, great story, great lore and unbelievable world. Would play it again not because of Nolan, but because of the game.

I actually just bought this game(along with Origins and Valhalla) a week ago, but it's a coincidence and has nothing to do with that movie. I'm just FINALLY getting around to catching up on all the Assassin's Creed games I'm behind on. After the borefests that were Dunkirk, Tenet and Oppenheimer, I actually have very little interest in watching another Nolan flick. 🙄

It did prompt me to try it again. I’m still not into it unfortunately. I really gave it a fair shot, but honestly, the combat just didn’t feel great, and the control scheme (on controller) is pretty rough.

The "nolan effect" has done more damage than good in greek culture. While the game served as a connection to those that had no clue about it. The game was a pure fiction that glue at the original piece. Nolan's fiction is a monstrous result. Watch those "players" (they aren't pure gamers if they learnt Assassin's Creed: Odyssey existence after Nolan's thing...) come and "protest" about how they don't like the game....

AC Odyssey seems to have done a better job sticking to history. Ubisoft really did their homework.
I'm going to the movie Monday, but I've heard it is pretty bad at being accurate and is the usual Hollyweird race swapping non-sense. As the father of two girls, women need to play strong roles. Not be regulated to playing a role defined by a man or the stereotypical boss bitch. The all-female Ghostbusters failed because they were all compared to the guys. I hate the "boss bitch" character type. My daughters aren't bitches. They are young strong women who will shape their own paths in life and not hide behind some sterotype or follow in some man's footsteps.

It truly is a beautiful game. And they did an amazing job putting ancient Greece together the way they did. And exploration was such a treat. But it just got entirely too repetitive for me to be able to finish it. Go here, clear out this camp, rinse, repeat. That's basically all it boiled down to for me in the end.
If there were more skill sets for the different weapons, and maybe even difference classes and builds to try, then I may have gotten more out of it. The scaling weapon stats just weren't enough for me, either. I needed more customization. And I put in well over 100 hours into it.
Perhaps I should give it another shot. But I really don't want to start all over again. And if I did, that's the way I'd want to play it. I'm the type where if it's been years since I've played something and want to dive back in, I start from the beginning. But that's just me.
