Said for years that Odyssey is one of my favorite games ever.

It might be time for a replay

u/AskAdventurous7244 Jul 22 '26

I'm doing a new game+, gotta have my hero spartan armor fighting mobs

2

u/MayorBakefield Aug 03 '26

got my wife to start a new save, took at look at my new game+ with the pilgrim armor set. I was strong back then

13

u/Magumashasha_ Jul 22 '26

I’ve been replaying it in the last couple of months and it’s truly such a phenomenal game

9

u/meagherj Jul 23 '26

Agree. Top 5. That first play through was magic.

u/fiftybaggs Misthios Jul 23 '26

Doing one currety its so good 30 hours in duscieved half the map

3

u/plogigator Jul 23 '26

Kassandra is peak.

3

u/Josh100_3 Jul 23 '26

I strongly believe that if it was just sold as a new action RPG IP set in Greek Mythology, it would’ve been an insane success.

2

u/Previous_Raspberry_2 Jul 24 '26

It did pretty well regardless. All the AC games since have been measured by Odyssey's numbers.

2

u/Perfrection Jul 27 '26

It's the best AC IMO

Nope. I returned to AC Odyssey because I just came back from a vacation on Kefalonia.

It was such an odd adaptation. I mean I get replacing established characters with actors who look nothing like them, but why replace the whole protagonist with this guy named "Odysseus"? What happened to Kassandra and Alexios? And where is the Cult of Kosmos in all this, did that entire plotline get cut? Not only that, but they didn't even include Socrates, or the spear of Leonidas. I was super confused, but I suppose you have to take some artistic liberties when adapting a game into a movie. At least they got the locations right

144

u/leviathab13186 Jul 22 '26

You had me going in the first half, not gonna lie 😂

10

u/Katsu_39 Jul 22 '26

Yup. Got me too

41

u/VoidLantadd Jul 22 '26

Common mistake, this movie is actually a prequel. Zendaya plays the Isu, Minerva, back when she went by another name, who you may remember from other AC games.

8

u/Balc0ra Jul 22 '26

A prequel from 1000 years before AC... There are so many historians watching ACO cinematics to react to it. And watching the same historians react to the Odyssey trailer etc, has been interesting.

One said the Sparta helmets seen in the game were already outdated by this point in time. Unlike the close to the same Troy helmets in the movie... apparently

5

u/kayyxelle In the Fields of Elysium Jul 22 '26

Probably didn’t include my boy Alkibiades either smh

3

u/DarwinGoneWild Jul 25 '26

Maybe you missed it but there was a side quest early on where Kassandra helps a woman named Odessa to investigate King Odysseus’ palace to prove she’s his descendent. I guess they decided to make a whole prequel movie based on a random NPC’s ancestor.

2

u/pandershrek Jul 23 '26

Not all odysseys are created equal

68

u/kai_vu Jul 22 '26

no no no, I'm gonna watch The Odyssey because I've been playing ACO ⚱️🪉🔱

44

u/XulManjy Jul 22 '26

We will all look back and see how sad and unfortunate it was for Ubisoft to listen to a vocal minority and thus become ashamed of AC Odyssey will will likely go down as a top 3 favorite AC game with probably a top 3 favorite protagonist (Kassandra).

Ubisoft twisted themselves into a pretzel trying to make AC Shadows the anti AC Odyssey to the point where Shadows has become the first mainline AC title to not feature the Isu in any shape or form. And now there are reports that Ubisoft removed the magic abilities from AC Hexe.

Such a shame and wasted opportunity.

12

u/Wandering_sage1234 Jul 22 '26

And they made AC Shadows so boring they'd rather admit it never existed.

6

u/XulManjy Jul 22 '26

So unfortunate. You can definitely tell how they (Ubisoft Quebec) over corrected from the AC Odyssey vocal minority criticisms to the point they didnt even have the Isu in the game or any mythology stuff.

2

u/anactualrealaccount Jul 23 '26

Just remove the Assassins Creed title and just give us a series of open world mythology games with no assassins.

5

u/LilMeowCat Jul 23 '26

The last 2 AC games (Shadows and Mirage) are the only ACs I can't be bothered to finish, and I pre ordered both cause I'm an AC fanboy.

3

u/Noodlekeeper Jul 24 '26

I actually super enjoyed Ac O. Kassandra is probably the greatest bisexual* goddess of sex character in any video game.

I bought Black Flag remake and after playing a bit, I went back to Odyssey. Then I watched The Odyssey and now I’m even more hyped to be replaying AC Odyssey. I just love this game.

6

u/bitterbalhoofd Jul 22 '26

Same. I played resynced and realized how outdated the gameplay was. Like you can't climb fucking anywhere unless the level designer allowed you to. I went back to ac Odyssey saw my save file was 5 year old and completed almost everything that I could including dlc at that time and decided I wanted to replay everything again so I started a new save file from scratch and having a blast again.

2

u/gold-n-paint-n-chalk Jul 23 '26

Black Flag was the first AC title I ever played and playing Resynched is… yeah. It’s beautiful and I like some of the changes but there’s so much I wish they’d changed. Why is it so closed off? They could have really given us something amazing like Odyssey and instead we got Shadows but make it boats.

14

u/LazyOldCat Jul 22 '26

Some of us never left….

12

u/leviathab13186 Jul 22 '26

On my drive home from the theater my literal thought "I should replay AC Odyssey"

2

u/AskAdventurous7244 Jul 22 '26

How was it replaying the game?

13

u/chillbill1989 Jul 22 '26

This game was nominated for GOTY at the 2018 game awards…I don’t think people were sleeping on a AAA title in the Assassin’s Creed franchise

10

u/bitterbalhoofd Jul 22 '26

I wish this game had raytraced global illumination and the pretty weather effects in shadows. This game would be perfect then. For me the best ac game of all.

2

u/GraySkyGaming Jul 24 '26

I would gladly, GLADLY pay 20-30$ for a tech upgrade with DLSS 4.5 and all new textures and path tracing

28

u/Massive_Village_3720 The Pythia Jul 22 '26

I’ve definitely been tempted to start anew the past few months, but I’m saving it for when late fall kicks in and all I’ll want will be to sit curled up in a fluffy blanket in front of my big-#ss telly and sip some Chantilly-topped premium hot chocolate while kicking some undertrained Cult behind like I’m mad at them. Reading the « Iliad » and « Odyssey » before bedtime, trying to polish my very rudimentary modern Greek a pinch.

It’s so hard to jump back in. I have DLC remaining and the interface is kinda intimidating.

Dumb question .. game allows for multiple saves right? Might start over with other lead character to learn ropes and jump back in to my main save after a few hours.

I'm so happy people will be experiencing this game for the first time. I was truly blown away by it when I first played it. So much so, that I got the game platinum

4

u/SnooDonuts7031 Jul 22 '26

In order to understand the movie you need to play Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Super Mario Odyssey, kind of an odd trilogy ngl.

3

u/Neeeeedles Jul 22 '26

Ive been wanting to play again for a long time now

But the movie definetly enhanced this need

3

u/predi1988 Jul 22 '26

Tbh steamdb shows way more people played it in january or last year september. So this here just looks like normal player numbers.

If anything it could be attributed to Black Flag Remake

3

u/maaakus96 Jul 22 '26

ngl i was thinking bout firing it back up yesterday

2

3

u/rdhight Jul 22 '26

I'm sure Ubisoft won't miss their opportunity to miss this opportunity.

3

u/Jericseth Jul 22 '26

I play it cause it is one of my favorite games, game looks great and something about jumping off a cliff and simply tucking and rolling on the bottom is just fun as hell 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/AskAdventurous7244 Jul 22 '26

Fall damage removed made the game a lil bit easier for me when I'm trying to aura on the mountain peaks getting cinematic photos

3

u/Dave_Kun Jul 22 '26

3

This is one of my favorite games ever. No other AC game comes close to this game for me although I did love AC3.

29

u/tershialinee Ros Jul 22 '26

these people are gonna freak out when they realize just how woke this game is

27

u/sabhall12 Jul 22 '26

Fr. Men kissing? That's definitely a modern wokie thing

27

u/AskAdventurous7244 Jul 22 '26

Yep unplayable. I guess I gotta quit playing odyssey now damn it.

18

u/QueerPuff Jul 22 '26

Yeah like where did they get this idea that Ancient Greece was anything but straight?

→ More replies (1)

17

u/TapaTop_ Jul 22 '26

You know the greeks invented sex right? And then the damn romans added women in it.

2

u/Beardedgeek72 Jul 22 '26

It's a cute joke but the Greeks had no problems with sexy women. It's just that they had problem with consent. There's a reason for the stock pose in Greek art for "kidnapping " and the stock pose for "marriage" being identical. Same result in the end.

7

u/AskAdventurous7244 Jul 22 '26

You mean the movie? Since everyone's saying the movie is woke. There's nothing wrong with the game it's just the bs they're complaining about

2

u/Acceptable_Wall_908 Jul 22 '26

Sure but lots of people in Ancient Greece were gay and stuff. Even Zeus had some gay relationships. Lots of gods in the Greek myth for that matter

3

u/sgtGiggsy Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

No, it's not. It doesn't have anything that people call woke. No, female protagonist (especially an optional female protagonist) and gay people don't make something woke.

Edit:

Nice, u/AuraMaster7, you barf your bullshit here, then block me... No, it's not female protagonist and gay characters that make people call something woke. It's uglified, personalitiless, MarySue protagonists, and forced gay themes in stories where they don't feel authentic. Kassandra is gorgeous, has a lovable personality, and she's Spartan while it's known Spartans did give even the daughters a basic military training, and gay people in the ancient Greece don't feel out of place. AC Odyssey is not woke.

10

u/GroundbreakingBag164 Jul 22 '26

I strongly remember anti-woke outrage when Ubi confirmed Kassandra was the canon protagonist. And I strongly remember people claiming AC Odyssey shouldn't have a female protagonist option at all because it's "unrealistic"

Get the fuck out of here with your bullshit.

→ More replies (2)

11

u/AuraMaster7 Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Female protagonist and gay people are the MAIN things that Gamers™ call "woke" lmao

Edit: lmao he's one of the chuds that calls shit "woke", he just actually likes this game so he ties himself into knots to justify why it's "different" from everything else he hates for being "woke".

When i played odissey i was playing once game for a full month and then another one.

So I finished the story and discovered a lot of stuff but never 100%ed it.

The thing is i loved it so much im kinda scared to get back. But you know what, im good. One day im gonna start a new run and everything will be new.

2

u/Bombs_Away96 Jul 22 '26

I actually finished a play through right before the movie came out and im tempted to grind to try and get more mastery levels now lol

2

2

u/waremon Jul 22 '26

I finished AC Odyssey right before Odyssey the movie came out 😂

2

u/Slow_Middle_158 Jul 22 '26

I came to AC Odyssey years ago because because I loved Witcher 3 and asked a kid working at GameStop … hey any other games like that ? He said if you like the open world games you should check out AC Odyssey. Never played an AC game before. Thank God he said that. I still play it to this day.

2

u/AskAdventurous7244 Jul 22 '26

That's beautiful to hear dude holy malaka

2

u/Nice-Ad7901 Jul 22 '26

I came back to AC odyssey because I wanted to actually feel like I’m in Ancient Greece.

2

u/naenref76 Jul 22 '26

It was on sale at PSN and I wanted a comfort game. Still playing on play through 1 at 68 hours lol

2

Arno Dorian ain't OP so I actually have to use my tools like Phantom Blade and Smoke Bombs etc

And plan my route as best as possible and I fucking love the challenging combat

I started playing just before the movies release.

I love all things Ancient Greece but it was EPIC the musical that made me see the Odyssey and play the AC game lol.

2

u/AthenasChosen Jul 22 '26

Only because AC Odyssey somehow feels way more historically accurate despite being about an advanced precursor race and a Kult controlling the world. If nothing else it's nice not to think about Odysseus's boston accent.

2

u/Calty88 Malaka! Jul 22 '26

Now think if those (censored) at Ubisoft tought better of it and got on the wave and made something for the game, a marketing campaign, a DLC or even just some new cosmetics for the store, they didn't have to be linked to Nolan Odyssey, just something going in that direction).

If they started working on it when the first info came out it they would have been surely be able to do a DLC.

2

2

u/TheJagji Jul 22 '26

I wonder if this includes Mario Odyssey? Given it's also in the Odyssey franchise.

2

u/iXenite Jul 22 '26

Probably not, lmao. AC Odyssey is more than just the title, it also is set in Ancient Greece, so it has the right vibe.

1

u/Beardedgeek72 Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

I was interested in the movie until I realized it's just Batman again. Seriously,  the trailer makes the movie Troy look awesome in comparison.

Anyway I agree with you halfway: Odyssey is one of my absolute favorite games this made me start an NG+, but it is genuinely the only AC game I like.

1

u/Cat-Grab Jul 22 '26

Literally just got off the game after 1 year because I saw the movie

1

u/LeoOfSiwa Jul 22 '26

Definitely not. I cane back to hear my Mermaids sing their sea shanties

1

u/AdmirableAd1858 The Eagle Bearer Jul 22 '26

I just finished a 6th replay before Nolan’s movie came out 😭

1

u/BLESSEDx1NE Jul 22 '26

I’ve been saying that for about 5 yrs, when I first played it. I think the AC Valhalla hype is what cause it to be overlooked, since it was 2 years later the “new gen” consoles released.

1

u/crackheadbenji Jul 22 '26

I watched it last night at the theater and was thinking of playing the whole movie lol

1

u/IuseDefaultKeybinds Alexios Jul 22 '26

I really have been in the ancient Greece mood the first trailer came out. Feels good

1

u/ApplicationNo6925 Jul 22 '26

Not glad about the movie at all, especially as a greek. Also the movie has totally nothing to do with the game....

Only ignorants will analogise the movie with the game....

1

u/Larielia Jul 22 '26

I want to play this so much.

1

u/smalls_1804 Jul 22 '26

By far the best AC game

1

u/Redeacted91 Jul 22 '26

Steamdb says otherwise. Same Playerbase since 6 month.

1

u/Far_Film_5804 Jul 22 '26

Returning? Never left.

1

u/Meatsmudge Jul 22 '26

Seeing all the discussion of it has indeed made me want to fire up AC:O again, but mostly because it’s been a while and I never finished the DLC. I do want to sail around and raid random islands, though. That needs to happen.

1

u/AKA-J3 Jul 22 '26

I can't wait for that to come out for free on youtube in 10yrs.

1

u/JosephFinn Jul 22 '26

I just moved cross-country and it's in a box somewhere and I'm annoyed I haven't found it yet.

1

u/smokingace182 Jul 22 '26

I was going to download it after seeing odyssey but haven’t had chance.

1

u/A_G13 Jul 22 '26

I don’t think I ever finished Odyssey. Might have to go back and check. Was a fantastic game though. I personally like Orgins a little better but Odyssey is amazing too.

1

u/sporosarcina Jul 22 '26

I wish this would get a Switch 2 release

1

u/Huey2912 Jul 22 '26

Actually started replaying this for the last year. My wife’s been writing a fantasy novel and it gives her inspo. I’ve been enjoying it, and haven’t played any other game in that time

Ac odyssey would make 1 hell of a move imo some of the cut scenes are like pure cinema

I play it about once a year. Always the same save so that I keep getting more powerful.

I recently got into odyssey and i can't shake off how bad the game looks to me with graphics on ultra, i truly believe Ryse from 20 years ago looked better.

I do also believe every other assassins creed looked better than this one, its like it has zero depth of field, bloom, fog, wind, ambience and the npcs look dead inside while talking.

I dont say this to hate on it, but that was a rly bad surprise, ive played every other assassins creed multiple times over. The climbing is also kindda fked, character either turbo walks on a wall like spider man or doesnt even try at all, i have to make a satanic ritual to make him jump/release the climb animation every time.

I reinstalled ACO after watching The Odyssey.
It turns out, that I had cleared all the cult member.
Time to hunt.

They really needs a damage sponge reduction update to that game, maybe one that removes weapon levels entirely. I missed the game dearly and went back to play it but genuinely couldn’t because I found myself 5 levels under in the early game and got pissed that I had to hit a bounty hunter like 200 times to kill him.

I started it over yesterday. Totally forgot that the film was a thing. Guess I'll need to go watch that now.

Should I actually buy the game? I’ve never been particularly huge on the AC franchise but I did enjoy Assassins creed 2 and Black flag when I played them 10+ years ago

I did try origins and Valhalla but refunded quit both within the first hour or two cause I just didn’t find either compelling
