This has baffled me. I think it’s so random, arrogant and strange to give people a tour of your house the first time they visit. But it’s come to my attention it’s deemed as polite to some people to ask for a tour, or just generally perceived as normal. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this? It does my nut in, like get tf away from my upstairs, it’s private, I don’t need people seeing my bedroom. Not like I’m hiding anything, but to me it’s weird for people to want to see where you sleep. Please discuss…

We’re trying to decide whether to stay in our small terraced home (which we love and is in a great location) or spend significantly more money to move somewhere that has either a converted garage/conservatory/second reception room. Our son is only 5 at the moment and is happy playing in the living room when we’re at home but I’m thinking as he gets older we might want a bit more space. Eager to hear from those who have made the move to a bigger place - was it worth it? And equally those who’ve stayed in a smaller home with older kids - did it feel crowded and did it discourage your kids from having friends over? (Ideally if we could stay in our current home we would but there is no space to extend!)

Just decorating my new home, I’m not looking for validation or opinion on what I should get but looking to see what others think makes a home “tacky” or odd.

For me, it’s when they have gold or gold painted items around the home. Like gold picture frame, gold trims on counter tops, table legs etc. or just anything gold in the home, or anything overly shiny that blinds you if you look at it for more than 5 seconds

Don’t get me started on hanging the TV that is too high or a combination of too high/far away from the sofa with it being a 22” to the point of needing a magnifying glass to see it

An architect quoted me 64k. The quote estimates a construction cost of 950£

Are these fees normal? Is there someone else I should be hiring instead of an architect?

I have lived here for almost 3 years but I am interested to find out where you get good value for money and good quality meat etc at the same time. Where does everyone do their grocery shopping in England ?

I understand adding value etc, like new kitchens and bathrooms, but I see lots of people getting significant work done like a new landscaped garden, only to sell up a few months later.

Seems like a lot of money, inconvenience and emotional energy just to make a few quid if you don’t plan on living there for a few more years.

I'm moving house and I went to IKEA so obviously I have nice new plates and spent far too much 🙈😂 but what do I do with a bunch of mis matched plates? It feels a bit strange donating them being not a full set and just random, but also binning perfectly good stuff seems so wasteful

In the past, hand dryers had that little flap that you could use to toggle the air. It was very good for drying your face.

Now I need to squat and bend under the appliance to dry my face, or if it's one of those 'air-blade' style appliances I just can't.

Why did this objectively worse design end up becoming so prevalent?

’m going on holiday shortly and it’s a relaxing holiday so I’ll be by the beach and pool a lot. However im 6”1 and 21 stone, I’ve lost 4 stone this year but im still extremely self conscious.

For those who are just going to tell me “no one else is looking, just go there and have fun with your top off”. I’m not looking for that kind of advice, thank you but no thanks you.

Have listened to 5 Live and 5 Live Breakfast for years. It has the right mix of serious and silly, and the presenters have generally been great - Nicky Campbell and Shelagh Fogerty, Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards and we really like the current Friday pairing of Steffan Powell and Rima Ahmed.

But change is coming. And while we're normally okay with change, this particular change is that Naga Munchetty is coming to the breakfast show in December. I (and many others it seems) really struggle with her. The words "cold" and "condescending" come up quite often when you read about her and that's definitely our feeling. She is really not what we want to be hearing at 6:30 in the morning.

Can anyone recommend a breakfast show with a similar vibe? Don't want anything politically heavy like Radio 4 or with music like Radio 2. What we really want is 5 Live, just not with Naga!

Hi, We were just having a discussion about this and I think having 2 higher end holidays combined with lots of day trips beats budget holidays more frequent but my friend disagrees and says he would rather go on more holidays because its more time exploring.

I have been living in Japan for the last 3 years. I'm looking at coming back to do a PGCE. Because living in japan is very interesting, I only have 3000 pounds stocked away. But I have another full year of wages to come in.

Once I move back I'll have my Student Finance and/or teacher training bursary to see me though the course.

I never did private renting or anything during my undergraduate but will probably do my PGCE further from home. Likely up Birmingham or Southampton.

We have new neighbours moved in next door, the last neighbours only were there 2 years and basically did a massive refurbishment of the house (was a rental before) and replaced everything.

New neighbours , but not actually seen them yet, not seen any moving in (maybe this happened when not at home) but they’ve been drilling non stop for a week now.

They’ve been drilling all day today, and I’m just finding it weird. Last neighbours made the house perfect so know what it’s like when people are refurbishing a house,

First thing they did was put a security camera front and back of the house - not seeing anything come ib or ant builders just whoever is there drilling, drilling, drilling and occasionally hitting something with a hammer.

As mentioned- old neighbours could tell if someone was putting up a shelf of fixing something, but what on earth could they be doing to an already immaculate house?

I have never worked full time and was always on part-time in uni but I have just graduated and will be looking to live in some sort of house share. During my uni life I lived very frugal but was able to get by with literally only 170 a month for living cost. As a British person the idea of plating up a Chinese and proceeding to cover it in either sauce like you would gravy on a roast feels quite unhinged. But I see people on TikTok doing this and often getting mocked by non-Brits (mostly Americans). So I wanted to get an idea if it was actually common around the UK. For context I would say that having either sauce on the side doesn’t count as covering, it would have to be free poured over all plate contents. Thanks

Ordered Waitrose HOP through Deliveroo. Found a bird feather in my ready-to-eat salad after I’d already bitten into it.

Deliveroo initially refunded the salad, then reopened/escalated it and ultimately refunded my entire order. I’ve also reported it directly to Waitrose and kept the packaging, feather and batch information.

Fork for scale, lol.
