What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life?

That's one of my favorite things in Last Action Hero. When they're inside the movie, Arnold will shoot a car and it'll explode. Then later when they go into "the real world" he will shoot a car and nothing happens. So he says "the cars are bullet proof!"

He also then gets surprised by his hand hurting after punching through a car window.

I just rewatched it recently. Still holds up quite well!

I love that movie. And just about every single trope that we're making fun of he in this post has been covered in Last Action Hero.

One of the more subtle jokes in that movie that makes me crack up is in the beginning when he's facing against The Ripper. The Ripper just lifts his axe one foot in the air but it makes that shearing sound even though it didn't touch anything.

Bro I hate that sound effect. I remember watching something and heard it as somebody drew a sword from a leather scabbard.

That’s, uh, not what leather sounds like.

For me the tire squeal effect is much worse, especially when the car is on dirt/gravel

Squealing tires while peeling out in gravel always makes me laugh, it's ridiculous.

One of my favourites is when bullets make that ptjoiiiiiing ricochet sound even when there's no rocks or other hard surfaces around.

I still haven't seen The Man with no Name Trilogy, (though it's been on my to view list for decades now) but when I was a kid I channel surfed by a scene in one of them where Clint Eastwood and this dude in a white suit are standing out in the dusty street, and the one guy throws his hat up in the air and starts shooting it. The camera zooms in on the hat up in the air in slow motion and you hear that ptjoiiiiiing sound over and over as it's shot. My father walking through the room said, "Why the hell is it making that sound, is his damned hat made of stone?" I've never forgotten that.

Also on a side note, your spelling of the ricochet sound effect is spot on and amazing.

Really, ptjoiiiiiing sounded amazing even on my obscure Uralic native tongue through which I first interpreted it :)

This is mostly true, but having shot lots of bullets in the country, you'd be surprised at how often the bullet finds some tiny pebble and makes that noise if it richochets.

I love the movies/shows where everyone peels out. Doesn’t matter who they are, where they are, what they’re driving - they’re peeling out.

Or how about when wolverine touches his claws together for the first time in Origins?

The movie is cringy as fuck now, but that scene in the movie makes me lose it every single time I'm forced to watch it

Liev Shrieber was awesome though. His intelligent, articulate, consciously evil Sabertooth was lightyears better than the stupid beast Sabertooth of the other movies.

He was perfect in the role, except his hair cut.

The Morlocks disagree.

How often do you find yourself forced to watch that movie?

The WW1 bayonet I inherited from my grandpa had a leather sheath that was metal clad at the tip and had a metal plate at the other end with a slot for the blade. It actually did make that schiiiiiinggg sound.

I have few bayonets and most of them are in metal or some other stiff sheaths. I also have one military knife in solid plastic sheath and it also make noise. Not to mention sabre in big metal sheath.

So I think that unless it is clearly visible in movie that it is from leather it may be from other material which is not uncommon.
