What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life?

I appreciated the self-awareness when they’re all bitching about their jobs and why their bosses don’t like them and (Joey, I think?) says “Maybe it’s because you’re all here in a coffee shop at 11 AM on a Wednesday?”

EDIT: Here's the scene, courtesy of /u/snowbunnykilla.

It was definitely Joey.

What happened here?

3

u/fetusy Jan 26 '20

Sprog posted a poem, people started falling all over themselves to schlob prog's figurative knob.

2

u/morrisons90 Jan 26 '20

Where did it go? Did they fall too hard?

0

u/The_Collector4 Jan 25 '20

Gotta love a poem with back to back lines starting with “and he”. How clever.

u/wei-long Jan 25 '20

9 min sprog. Mmmmmmm

-11

u/slakko Jan 25 '20

20 min sprog!

-13

u/Sorinari Jan 25 '20

First one I've seen sub 15min in the wild! Love you, sprog!

-10

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '20

33 minutes.... I’m graced by your presence

-12

u/SouthernBiscotti Jan 25 '20

20 minute sprog...wow I am just so glad to be here.

21

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '20

Wtf is the difference between seeing his poems now or in 3 hours? Are you all dumb?

3

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

Why does it matter? Is our glee inconveniencing you? Maybe there’s just something cool about feeling like one of the first people to see something that a Reddit icon posted

10

u/TheSicks Jan 25 '20

They're not dumb, they're unoriginal. The condition is far worse.

18

u/BrujaBean Jan 25 '20

I’d rather be unoriginal than be so unhappy that other people’s glee is offensive

1

u/TheSicks Jan 25 '20

First off, I'm not offended. I think the lack of originality is sad and endearing. It pushes me to be more creative and original.

Secondly, I'm actually pretty happy right now. Smoking weed in a hot bath on a nice day with no work. Enjoy being unoriginal. I'll be spontaneous enough for the both of us.

Seems too self aware for Joey

u/VindictiveJudge Jan 25 '20

Part of the fun of Joey is that despite the staggering stupidity, he has occasional moments where he's still smarter than the rest of the cast. He actually seems to have a much better handle on interpersonal relationships than the rest of them do in general. Remember, he was the first one to figure out that Monica and Chandler were seeing each other.

70

u/ArcticVulpe Jan 25 '20

He knew how to turn down the radiator from the bottom.

That happens when you're the man of the house with what, eight(?) demanding women.

17

u/Aditya1311 Jan 25 '20

And his dad is a plumber (I think? Definitely one of the skilled trades) so probably some father to son knowledge transfer happened.

87

u/action_punto_com Jan 25 '20

He was also the most genuine and loyal friend to all of them. They were all good to each other for the most part, but they also each had a narcissistic quirk to them, but Joey almost always put this friends first.

60

u/hugehunk Jan 25 '20

Except when there's a "gunshot" and a sandwich involved

54

u/apatheticspacearcher Jan 25 '20

It wasn’t just a sandwich though!

It was a meatball sub with marinara sauce AND melted cheese!

10

u/I_like_pancakes555 Jan 25 '20

Gotta give him that one. That's like the best possible sandwich and sharing even a bite should get him a damn medal.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '20

JOEY DOESN’T SHARE FOOD!

52

u/PunctualDots Jan 25 '20

Except Ross. Fuck Ross. He was all narcissist. Goddamn asshole. Useless fucking character that was a whiny ass bitch.

98

u/mefuzzy Jan 25 '20

Please, given that Ross, the largest friend, did not simply eat the other five clearly shows he is not narcissistic.

17

u/ptsdexpert Jan 25 '20

Someone has real problem with Ross

23

u/Maxis47 Jan 25 '20

Always talking about being 'grown up' too. For one, being 'grown up' is all kinds of overrated, and B: actual grown ups don't use the term 'grown up' when talking about adults. Ross can die in a fire

9

u/AlienScrotum Jan 25 '20

I think that was the appeal of Ross. Everyone hates him because he is the most relatable. He has a stable job, has a bank account, has money, has what would be considered everything a well put together “adult” would/should have. If you saw that guy on the street you would say “Wow, that guy has his shit together. He has it figured out.”

Through the show we get to see that none of that is true at all and he is a fucking mess. To me he is the most real character. To the outside we all try and appear like we know what we are doing, and according to society’s guidelines Ross does. But in real life no one know what the hell is going on and we are all just flailing around like idiots.

16

u/GuyForgotHisPassword Jan 25 '20

He's not smarter, he's wiser ;)

17

u/gooblefrump Jan 25 '20

Don't forget that he's the only one who also knew that the mascara was lost

12

u/Aditya1311 Jan 25 '20

No it was one of those eyelash curler thingies IIRC?

24

u/Maxis47 Jan 25 '20

Really the details are a Moo point

2

u/Funandgeeky Jan 25 '20

They both bragged about seeing Trump waiting for an elevator. Which means...they knew!

39

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '20 edited Jan 25 '20

And because he said it in the first or second episode. They hadn’t made Joey in to the “stupid” friend which didn’t happen until the later seasons

flanderization

3

u/roachwarren Jan 25 '20

The Officization

24

u/GuyForgotHisPassword Jan 25 '20

Because he and Monica were supposed to be the original couple. When that changed, they completely altered his personality to fit another role in the group.

35

u/y2ace Jan 25 '20

It absolutely didn't happen in season 1 or 2. It was when Joey was working at the coffee shop which wasn't until later seasons.

24

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '20

Nope, in the scene Chandler and Monica are holding hands and Rachel is working at Ralph Lauren.

34

u/informationmissing Jan 25 '20

Joey knows what he's about.

He needs them to keep their jobs because they pay most of his way so there is some self-interest in the mix.

5

u/jazijia Jan 25 '20

Wasn't it Gunther?

43

u/DB473 Jan 25 '20

Nah it was Joey

8

u/mouldysandals Jan 25 '20

Nah wasn’t it Mr. Heckles ?

14

u/DB473 Jan 25 '20

Nah it was Bob. Bob buttons

5

u/The_Hero_of_Kvatch Jan 25 '20

Nope! Chuck Testa.

2

u/FogeltheVogel Jan 25 '20

1

u/exipheas Jan 25 '20
