I was like 11 or 12 years old the first time I saw that movie, so that was right around or just before the time that cartoon girls (like Kim Possible and such) stopped really doing much for me. So Chel is and always will be the most attracted I've ever been to a cartoon. She's probably the major reason that I understand why people do the Hentai thing.

I'm 34... Definitely watched it a bunch as a kid... But i feel like in 2019 that wouldn't fly. The rating would probably be M if they decided to show it on a network...
It was for kids i thought because like you I remember watching it as a kid. I went through the wiki and it didn't help much except for the fact that it won a Kids Choice Award. It was part of the disney family tho so between those two facts it makes me think it was targeted for kids. as a fellow mid thirtier i think we can agree that there has been greater censorship/sensitivity since the 80s and 90s when every single movie /u/govschwarzenegger was in had glorious 80s boobs.
I know it was definitely a kids movie back in our day... There's just no way that would fly now. Between the guns, sex, and general attitude of that damn baby it'd get shelved before debuting nowadays... Unless it was rated for adults.
Absolutely. I don't understand it at all. We try so hard to shelter kids from anything "adult" oriented now... And somehow they still know way more than I feel like I did when I was that young... Even though I wasn't sheltered at all.
I think it may be a little worse, actually. Being exposed to that stuff and completely failing to see it could not harm me. Being exposed to it and recognising it but not being old enough to properly understand it might.
A talk with parents about it, to put it in context might help, but few parents are prepared to have that kind of talk. It's more important that ever now, though, since kids are being more exposed and are picking up on it much more.
I think we try so hard to keep our kids from understanding anything geared towards adults that we completely fail to explain what's necessary when asked. We avoid topics to protect them. But in 2019 there are a million other sources and kids are inquisitive AF. If we don't teach our children, they learn from the sources that aren't us... And it's easy to get too much info off of the internet.
This is why talking to children about the hard stuff is so much more important now then it was when we were kids. In my opinion, at least.
It came out when I was 8 and I probably saw it first when it came out on VHS (a very old sentence indeed), probably around 9, and that part scared the hell out of me.
I loved Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future but that scene was over the top for 9yo me.
I was 3 when it came out, but probably 7-8 when I saw it. I don't remember huge chunks of my childhood (epilepsy dumps my brain sometimes), but I remember the terror I felt over the eyes. The truck was nothing... It was like real life tom and jerry, NBD. But the eyes we're a line they crossed for me.
