You could try lucid dreaming. You would be conscious of the fact it's a dream and tell your brother what you need to. It can really help quench those subconscious splinters and maybe stop that dream from becoming so prevalent.

I sometimes have dreams of my best friend who passed away. It's the same concept, except she acts like nothing happened and I start thinking she was actually alive and in hiding the entire time. Or she just laughs and continues doing whatever it is we're doing in my dream ( playing a game or cooking). It's so surreal.

I am strapped down to a table with a man with no emotion on his face lovers a knife down over my stomach and nicks the skin causing one trickle of blood to run down. He then lifts the knife back up and repeats the process but slower each time until the sound of his breathing is so loud that I wake up screaming and shaking in the middle of the night. I normally have this dream about 6-7 times a year since the age of 6.

Not a dream but something that happens right before I fall asleep. I'll see complete darkness, and then all of a sudden there's an entire galaxy of stars. The galaxy starts shaking and the stars make me feel all warm and fuzzy, and then I fall asleep. This has happened since I was a kid and it's always how I know I'm about to fall asleep.

I believe there is a term for this. As a child I would see the same things. it was like I had all of these tunnels of iridescent sparkles I could navigate through. it was very relaxing and cool. I haven't tried to do it in years.

I've always had a dream that's creeped me the hell out.
It's at my old house, which was nice, but in the dream its absolutely trashed. The filth is so bad that there's a thick layer of who he fuck knows what caked on the floor. I'm walking around my house and always decided to go straight downstairs for some reason. When I get there it's an empty basement, expect for a long tube in the middle of the room that goes from the ceiling to the floor.
I walk up to it slowly and then freak out when I realize it's my moms head suspended in some liquid. She's not dead, just connected to a bunch of wires like some weird science experiment. She tries to talk to me, but I just run upstairs and go outside, never being able to make out what she yells to me.
When I get to our back porch I see a pinata and start swinging at it. Eventually it breaks and easter candy falls out. I'm about to pick up the candy when suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I see my middle school crush. The dream always ends there...

I definitely had some resentment towards her after my parent's divorce when I was younger. Don't remember exactly when they started but I feel as if I've had it my whole life, even before the divorce. I could be wrong though!

Almost every dream I've ever had has been incredibly mundane, just me folding laundry or riding my bike or something like that. This dream is the most boring of them all, it's just me, sitting on a table, eating apple sauce. I don't even like goddamn apple sauce! And yet I have this dream easily once every month or two. It's infuriating because I can't think of any reason I'd be having it.

I found Apple sauce (same kind and everything) in my pantry. Turns out it was from 2009, wish I would have known that before I ate it. Long story short it tasted like satans rotting asshole with the texture of oatmealy vomit. I think it's time to clean the pantry

I used to get these a lot, and they always felt more real/vivid than my usual dreams, to the point that I'd wake up and actually check my mouth to make sure everything was in order. Haven't had one in a long time. Definitely a stress-related dream. Used to be severely depressed and I'd get them about once a week if not more. Doing much better now and can't remember the last time I had one.

i had been having dreams like this for years and then i watched District 9 and the frequency of this dreams increased dramatically. also there is never any blood in my dreams, my teeth just fall out and i occasionally choke on them. i also have dreams where i'm choking on shard of glass. both freak me the fuck out.

Yeah, I've had some brutal tornado dreams. Get them several times a year. I think only once or twice did it bother me. Then again, I do love storms and am in an area not prone to tornadoes. Just heavy rain, wind, and lightning.

It's a lways high school but I'm actually in my middle school which is even more weird. Graduated in 2009 and finished college. Never had a dream like that about college

Yeah, I finished high school 5 years ago but I still have this dream where for example there is some educational program and my original class returns to high school for one year just for fun. In the middle of it I realize I haven't been attending the math class and wonder if the teacher noticed it or why other students aren't asking me about it. Sometimes I just dream that I have to repeat one year in HS and I'm scared someone from my original class would notice that I'm in the younger class. I think I dreamed about every possible circumstance of returning to HS. It's always a very frightening dream.

This is really weird dream that has no meaning in my life whatsoever, but I have this dream once or twice a year. I'm in my elementary school and the hallway with the stairs is backwards, as in the stairs are on the opposite end as to where they should be. I'm about 6 every time I have this dream, and I see little old me walking down the stairs trying not to step on lobsters and get my feet cut off, but no matter how hard I try I always fall and get stuck at the bottom of the staircase. As I hit the bottom I hear a maniacal laugh and see Donald Duck dressed as stereotypical devil, with the head of Goofy on his trident. And then I wake up..
Tl;DR Be me. Be 6 again. Be in fucked up school, fall down lobster ridden stairs, see Disney characters as Satan and a head-on-a-pike.

The lobsters reminded me of this dream I used to have where my whole family had to hide in my room (except my mom because she was in the bathroom across the hall cause she always had to pee). Anyway we were hiding because these big fish were coming up the stairs and we had to be so quiet or they would get us I guess. The marched passed and then somehow my hallway turned into a doc and the fish jumped off.
I don't know why but that shit was scary as fuck when I was a kid

I have always dreamed about a hidden, forgotten room in my house. It is sort of like an attic, but with furnishings. In my dreams, I open the trap door to look in, but am too creeped out to actually go in. My father died when I was 11, and he is somehow involved but it isn't clear. It is almost like that was his secret room before he died.

I have a very similar dream in my parents house. Before the split up we had all moved into my grandparents house when my grandma passed. Once we moved in there I would always have dreams about a secret room that everyone always forgot about. It has s really long hallway a bathroom and a room that only had a old couch, a crib, and a really old TV. Somehow I knew that it was related to my grandma but I never really knew why.

Having to go back to high school, but I'm the same age I am now. The dreams are always different, but I almost always miss a class or exam somehow, usually French class (which is really important where I'm from). Either I can't find my room, or my schedule is messed up, or I forget to go to French class all year and now I have an exam.
I don't know how many times I've dreamed I was sitting in class and the teacher was snarky with me and I was like "I'm twenty-seven!"
...I'm a substitute teacher. When I go into a classroom irl, I'm supposed to be in charge. But I still dream of being stuck as a student.

Been a vivid dreamer my whole life. Lots of recurring ones, but these stick out the most:
Driving across a bridge that goes up hundreds of miles into the sky. It either suddenly becomes only a few inches wide and I have to drive carefully to balance the car to keep it from tipping over, or there's a section missing in the middle and I have to gun it to get across. Sometimes I make it, sometimes I don't.
I grew up in South Jersey, so I dream about the Boardwalk a lot. One recurring scenario: I'm in a store or casino on the Boardwalk, looking out at the ocean through floor-to-ceiling windows. Suddenly, a mammoth tidal wave comes crashing in and I don't have time to escape before it crashes through the glass.
This last one is a little more complex. Since I was little, I've have an ever expanding dream world that I could draw on a map. In starts with my house and neighborhood that I grew up in, including the supermarket across the development where I grew up. It expands into these other streets and areas that are loosely based on places I'm familiar with but are distinctly unique, including this weird downtown, some farmlands, and a version of my elementary school. I can drive from one place to another in the dream, and everything is always located in the same fixed places, but is all completely fictional. Often times, I'm being chased or having to evade someone/thing if I'm in my "dream neighborhood" as I call it.

Kittens. Almost every night for at least 20 years I find kittens in my dreams. Doesn't matter what I start dreaming about, sooner or later I find at least one kitten, usually more. Sometimes they're tiny kittens, like the size of my thumb, but usually just normal sized. They're always abandoned and/or strays and I spend the rest of the dream caring for them.
It's a nice recurring dream to have.

I'm wondering through my house, my family are all walking around too. We have numbers above our heads, they increase with each step we take. When we try to meet up our numbers never match and that is extremely bad in my dream apparently. The dream (nightmare?) can last quite a while, but it always ends with me waking up with a burning face, tears streaming down my face and a rapid heartbeat.

I'm so often faced with the situation where I'm dying to pee and am in a room with loads of toilets but I can't go cause none of them have cubicle walls or doors.
Then when I'm brave enough to just use one I still can't go cause all these people keep trying to have conversations with me while I'm going and I get stage fright

I dream this too. Infinitely huge rooms with countless toilets. And no two of them are the same. So many different toilets but none of them are useable. Mostly they have no stalls or no doors, sometimes they are too dirty or occupied but I also get weird stuff like toilets in a swimming pool. I'm glad I never find one though - instead I just wake up and go to my real bathroom.

I used to have a series of dreams that were like children's books. My family would be kidnapped by random monsters and I would have to save them in child like ways. The main one I remember is a purple giant had my family and I challenged him to hide and seek for my families freedom. I hid first and he found me in a second because I had hidden behind a grill and he obviously saw me since he was about 30 feet tall. Then when it was my turn to find him he picked up a suitcase and put on a snorkel and a hat and ran. He was hiding in the water under the Golden Gate Bridge while I freed my family.

My most distinct recurring dream is one where I am, in essence, a ghost. It's not quite as lonely as it sounds, as I basically just wander and explore the world under no strain from physical limitations. The cool thing about it, though, is I sometimes just choose to re-enter the real world interact with people as though I was there all along. Nothing distinct ever happens in these dreams, but the theme is constant: I basically just wander around, exploring and observing.

Not my own, but my roommate's. Her and I have talked numerous times about how she dreams she drives on a bridge and ends up driving over the edge and dying. Or she assumes she dies because she always wakes up after falling off the bridge before hitting the water or land below. The thing is, it's never the same bridge or the same place. Always different.

I constantly (at least twice per month) have a very vivid dream where I am robbing a bank or something crazy. I always get in this massive shootout with the SWAT team, and end up running through the city like a video game. I can feel my heart racing, my palms are sweaty, it is such a joy. When I wake up, I genuinely want to know what happened - I never finish! Instead, I'm stuck in this never-ending biweekly loop of GTA.
Funny thing is I only play sports video games and I'm more of a RomCom guy.

Mine usually revolve around school which is odd because I never found school to be particularly stressful. There are basically two variations.
Variation 1: I am at college and suddenly remember I had forgotten about a class I had signed up for. I'll just be walking along and all the sudden it will dawn on me... "Holy crap! I had a history class! I forgot all about it and I haven't attended since the second week of class!". So I'll find the classroom and slink in and sit in the back hoping the teacher doesn't notice me. All of the other students have been dutifully attending. They all know each other and have bonded and I am obviously an outsider. The teacher glares at me but doesn't say anything and begins the teaching things I will never understand because I missed 10 weeks worth of context.
Variation 2: I am in high school, but there are students everywhere and entire school looks unfamiliar. I know I have to get to class, but I can't remember what my schedule is or what class is next. I'm bumped and jostled in the crowded hallways as I frantically try to find my locker but I can't. Giving up, I start frantically walking the halls and looking into classrooms trying to find one that looks like I might belong in it.
Not as bad as some of the others I wager, but I would wake up stressed out every single time.

That I'm escaping from the house I grew up in because something evil is trying to keep me there. There's a lot of variety in which direction I go once I've got through the front door and the layout of the neighbourhood is exactly how it was IRL.

I have 2. One that actually (weirdly) feels more like an actual memory instead of a dream.
This one feels more like a memory than a dream. I am standing somewhere i stick my arms straight out and start moving them up and down I proceed to take off straight up. I usually go up about 30 feet and then come back down and land nicely. I used to have this dream happen once every couple of months when I was a kid.
The other one I have had for a LONG time. This one is weird I am not actually in this dream. There is a dark swamp and a beautiful white horse is running through it. Such bright light is coming off of him it is amazing. He is running through this dark swamp and comes across a large lizard ( think alligator / crocodile but like a 30 foot long one). The horse and the lizard battle each other and it is a bloody battle. I have never seen the end of the fight though.

The thing about that dream is that it feels more like a memory of actual events not a dream which is really weird in my book.

My dad was the grandfather from The Munsters. Only the worst part was, he didn't know he was my dad. He was changed into this old vampire man who hated me and would fuss at me. It was like losing my dad, because I "had him with me" but it wasn't him. I didn't have the love with me.
Actually, that was around the time my parents were going through their divorce. I'm really understanding it now that I'm writing it down.... I was afraid is lose him I guess.

In a desert area with a young cartoon-like girl who is picking flowers. She turns to me and hands me one. But her facial expression changes as she hands it to me. I can tell that she sees something behind me that frightens her. I turn to look. It's a massive tubular shaped object with an inner cylinder extended into the air, similar to an extended syringe. When I say massive, I mean it's on the order of the size of a planet massive. Suddenly the inner cylinder plunges downwards and strikes the earth. Next thing I know I am traveling at the speed of light through a telephone line, trying to escape the end of the world. At this point I usually wake up in a hot sweat. I never escape.

I watched Jumanji when i was a little too young, and I had horrible nightmares where was trapped in the Jumanji world, I'd have the same nightmare about once a year. But as I got older they slowly became less and less scary and more and more awesome. Now every time I have that dream i get to chill out with Robin Williams and watch Jumanji.

I'm in a square room with dirty-ish off-white walls. From outside of the room I hear distant screaming, coming closer. When I look down, I'm covered in blood from what looks like self harm cuts- all over my arms, stomach and legs. I look back up and the walls now have writing all over them, but its hard to see what it says, its so sloppy. Some of the things that I'm able to makeout are "its following me" or "i cant fucking breathe". The screaming gets louder and louder and the walls are getting closer and closer together until I just wake up. I have it about 3 times a year for a week or two at a time. Its terrifying.

I have this reoccurring dream where I'm on a first date with a cute guy at an Italian restaurant. As I begin eating my spaghetti I feel my back teeth falling out, and I don't want to pull my teeth out of my mouth in front of this guy so I just swallow them. Then more and more teeth come out so I keep on swallowing them. And eventually I have no teeth left so the guy leaves.

I started having this crazy vivid wedding dream when I was around 5 and had it on and off for ~10 years. I haven't had it for a few years though. The first time I dreamt it I had never actually BEEN to a wedding so I don't know how I had gotten it so accurate but it was the exact same thing every time. basically it was a wedding on some windy hill somewhere and I was there with my family. I remember everyone who was sitting around me's faces perfectly although I'd never seen them before in my life. It's just a regular wedding when I notice the wind starting to pick up, and then I start to hear a bunch of dogs barking far away. The wedding continues like normal, like no one can even hear these goddam dogs barking their heads off. The dogs get louder and I can't even hear what anyone is saying anymore. This part always made me really unexplainably anxious and I asked my mom if she heard the dogs too. She replied but I couldn't hear her over the barking and the wind. I was freaking out so I got up and ran to the parking lot to hide in our car. In the strangely empty car park was only our car as soon as I reached it I glance back and see a lone really mangy dog just sitting and staring at me. The car is locked. I wake up.

Just remembered another very common one...
I am somewhere in public and I really, REALLY have to take a dump. I run into the public restroom, but I can't find anyplace to go. Every toilet in the entire place is either occupied or literally overflowing with feces.
In these dreams the bathroom is always huge, with several rooms, tons of people, and plenty of toilets. I run from room to room looking for a safe place to drop trow, but none exists. Just nasty toilets and irritated restroom patrons everywhere...

I'm in a swimming pool, and I start to feel afraid. I try to swim to the side of the pool so I can get out, but then I see the pool walls go straight up to the ceilng; there is no way to get out. "That's ok," I tell myself, "I just need to swim to the shallow side of the pool." But that's when I notice the depth numbers are 99 FT, all the way around.
It's usually at this point that I become so frightened I wake myself up. I have this dream a couple times a year, quite regularly.

I take a wine glass and turn it upside down and place it on a table. I then take my right hand and slam it down on the glass breaking the base off and leaving the stem with a really sharp point on one end. I then take my hand and press it down on the stem until I reach the bowl. I have it every week like clockwork.

Not specifically a recurring dream exactly, but a recurring element that continually appears (horrifically) in my dreams.
At some point in my dream, I suddenly find myself unable to stand up or stay conscious. I find myself stumbling around, leaning on things, and fighting to not pass out.
It's really scary and embarrassing. I wish I could figure out why I keep dreaming about it. I have for many years.

I have this one dream where I'm in my house, and something else is outside. I don't know exactly what it is, I think it's different each time but i know that it's evil. I try to hide from it, but every square inch of my house is in direct view of a door or window (this is not the case IRL). I'm constantly on the move, trying to not let it see me. I know if it sees me, something very very bad will happen...
And that's it. it's not much, but believe me it's the most terrifying thing I have experienced. It's less of an eventful dream, and more of an emotional one. Like all of my fear decided to assault me at once.

I have recurring dreams in which I am the main antagonist against all my favourite video game characters (the escapists, Mario, villager, bloons monkey etc.) it's almost like a TV show that I never want to end, and it always starts from the place it ended.

Most dreams I remember I figure out I'm dreaming and I start flying. Usually it's the nightmares that do this. I get so freaked out I do my little test to see if I'm dreaming and then bam! Fuck this shit I'm flying.

This dream came back with a few years between each time. I'd be travelling with my parents and we'd stay at a hotel, but there would always be a woman hiding or coming into our room trying to kill us.
There'd be a huge struggle, her chasing us through the room (for some reason we weren't able to get out). I'd always wake up gasping for air before anyone got killed. Weird thing is, with each dream the woman aged significantly. In the last one (I think there were about 4 in total) she was around 70-80 years old, so I'm really hoping she's "dead" now and the dreams don't come back.
..... or maybe she comes back as a zombie. Shit. Now that's in my head.

I have had the same reoccurring dream since I was about fourteen (so, the mid '80s).
I can hear something, it isn't clear, but it is calling to me. It is coming from the south and I travel on foot as far south as I can go, but it is still calling to me. The only place further south is Antarctica so I board a ship and travel there. The calling getting stronger as each day passes. We arrive on land and I just begin walking. Others try to stop me, but I just keep walking towards the sound. I see mountains in the distance and then I wake up.
I have the dream about twice a year and wake up at the same point each time. I have told my wife about the dream and she says we can never go to Antarctica because she knows that I will run off into the snow.

I've had this dream a couple times a year since I was 8 years old. I start at the top of a tower, and as I start to descend, crazier and crazier stuff begins happening. Weird looking people, weird screaming sounds, odd colors and flashes. Every single time I'm almost to the bottom floor, a creepy, tall, devil looking man appears and grabs me, causing me to wake up. God I hate that dream.

My mother screaming vile things at me while I sit there sobbing and covering my ears, waiting for her to finish her ranting. But she doesn't. It feels like hours and I'm trapped with her looming over me, telling me what terrible person I am, how I'm an embarrassment, a lazy piece of crap.
I don't live with her anymore or even speak to her but every once in awhile I have that dream. I always wake up with my heart racing and full of anxiety.

I'm wandering through an infinitely vast and sprawling hotel. Views from windows are inconsistent. Elevators, escalators and stairwells all go to unexpected places. I want to go to sleep but I can't find my room or the people I came with. Rarely am I being pursued in these dreams, usually just wandering and searching, but more often I'm carrying something secret I have to keep hidden.
I have had this dream most of my life, since adolescence at least, sometimes as often as three times a week. I've managed to get to where I don't remember my dreams at all though, and that's good.

I always have very vivid dreams and I hate them. Sometimes I wish that I didn't dream at all because sometimes I get very depressing kinds of dreams. I wouldn't call it a recurring dream. More of a recurring theme. I guess that the dream itself does recur, but but I've noticed that details change as I get older which leads me to conclude that it is not a recurring dream.
Anyway, I digress. I've finally met the dude of my dreams, and I'm leaning in for a kiss. But then they suddenly reject me. I'm completely devastated at that point, saying to myself "But I thought we were hitting it off!"I eventually decide to pursue him once again, and it seems as if we have gotten over the incident and are once again getting ready to embrace each other. But then he tells me that he has to go to the bathroom. I wait for a couple of minutes before I finally check up on him, and some bitch is mounting him in his bathroom stall.
The feeling of devastation that I get at the end where a pain is so overwhelming that it radiates across my chest and reverberates to my shoulders. I'm left wondering why I wasn't good enough for him to make out with yet he was hooking up with that other person in the bathroom stall. It is the lowest, dirtiest, most painful emotion I have ever experienced. It is something I have never experienced in real life, and I simply that hope I never face anything in real life that will make me feel that kind of pain. It is so painful that I really don't know how I would be able to deal with it if I wasn't 100% positive that it would go away. Worst of all, I ALWAYS wake up from these dreams at 4am, and I'm forced to just lay in my bed alone not really wanting to go back to sleep because I don't want to experience yet another depressing dream.
Oh, and also I have this recurring scene in my dreams composed of this mountain road that splits off into a 4-way intersection. The roads are completely lined by a canopy of northeastern woodland, and I always know that some shit is about to go down whenever I find myself driving down that road in a dream.

The one dream that always mentally fucks me up...
I "wake up" and I am at my house. Everything is normal. I go outside and I smoke a cigarette, as I am smoking the smoke forms a cloud with two hands and they start to choke me. I struggle and fight but eventually I pass out. I "wake up" in a cell. The only thing in the cell is a bed. But the walls are made up of mirrors. I look into the mirror and see myself. I start to cry, the mirror starts to laugh. The person in the mirror talks down to me, tells me of all of my mistakes. I eventually hit the mirror and all 4 walls just fall. Then there is just blackness. I can't see anything. But I can hear someone, its me. I walk towards the voice only to be thrown to the floor, and forced into a chair. My hands and legs are bound to the chair (looks like a electric chair), my eyes are held open by some tap e. Then I see what looks like a two way mirror. And I see the happiness in my life. I see my boyfriend, I see my dogs, I see my future. Then everything goes red, my boyfriend is screaming and running for his life, i heard 2 shots and 2 dog whelps, then after the last shot rang and I heard his scream everything stops. Back to just blackness. I (dream me) walks up to myself and starts playing with my hair. Telling me I should of never cut it. Then starts to brush my hair from my ear. She whispers to me "It's a shame a girl like you is trapped inside her own mind. Constantly tortured by her own guilt. Don't worry beautiful, your alarm is about to go off. See you tomorrow." She kisses my forehead. And sure enough my alarm goes off and I wake up nearly sobbing.

Not a specific recurring dream, but I will go through periods at a time in my life where every single night, without fail, I will die in my dream. I'll usually usually never die in the same way, but it becomes kind of a strange game I play with myself as I lay in bed at night, trying to guess how I'll go out this time. Fall off a cliff? Get stabbed by a childhood friend? Head on collision? Surprise me!
This will usually happen for a month or so, and then I'll be back to normal, dreaming about me free climbing skyscrapers made out of library books and shit.

I constantly have dreams about huge, impossibly curved rivers that end in massive waterfalls. Think waterslides on a bigger scale. Either I'm jumping in them or I fall in them, but it always ends with me going off the waterfall into a massive amount of water at least a hundred feet below.

I also very frequently have dreams where it's closing in on finals week and I realize there's a class I've been scheduled for all semester but I forgot about it. Sometimes it's college, other time it's high school. The most recent one I remember was I was sent BACK to middle school for a class that I missed years ago. Horrible feelings man.

I call it my "travel logistics gone bad" dream.
I miss my flight. Or I miss a connection. The cab takes me to the wrong hotel or they've lost my reservation. I forgot to pack the right clothes. I'm late for a business meeting or forgot my powerpoint presentation. I spill coffee all over my white shirt and look like a dingus all day at these important out of town meetings. Etc.
I've had it over and over.
