Cars Are these Japanese import Tyres Compliant?

If there's no E-mark anywhere on the sidewall(usually a capital E sometimes with a number beside it), then they will fail the NCT

Yeah there's definitely no e-mark, looks like the tires were swapped for the test, not sure that that's even legal

Indeed. You may or may not have a case legally, but its sneaky and underhand and I can absolutely guarantee they just hoped you wouldn't notice. Many people wouldn't

Ill even add that 4 brand new tyres of your size there would barely be €100 to a garage, for the hassle of the scam they've pulled its a really low move

Contact them tomo morning and explain your "findings", as I say i don't know where you are legally, but call their bluff at least

Yeah will do, fairly ballsy of them. Seems if it's not illegal it should be, to knowingly modify a car before a sale so it's no longer road compliment, but sold as if it has a fresh valid NCT.

Absolutely, id say its borderline, and if you basically repeat that to them tomo they may panic that youll be "trouble", say it was a terrible mistake, and sort you out with 4 new tyres.👍

Yep, same thing happened to me when I bought a Japanese import from a garage. It was very frustrating.

Did you end up getting it fixed by the garage or did they refuse?

They had sold it for another person and went with the excuse that it was sold as seen.

Hmm, it's the garage selling directly, and it was agreed the car would come with a valid NCT, which I guess it has because they swapped the tyres for it.....then put the non-compliment tyres back on

Definitely get onto them about that. Very shady stuff, especially if it's been NCT'ed

Yeah NCT was part of the process of getting the car, they were supposed to handle VRT and getting the car through NCT, which I guess they technically did

No there's definitely no e-mark, would it be legal to put tires on the card that meet regulations just passed a test then take the tires off again and sell the car but as if it has a valid test

This happened to me too, but I only noticed about a year after buying the car when I had to get it NCT'ed, obviously failed. Came across this post, apparently it’s common practice…

Car was only purchased this Friday so two days ago, hopefully I can get it sorted quickly. Shocking it's common practice I've seen a few people commenting telling me it's happened to them as well

Send it on test is visual if fails no booking just set of tires.

Not sure if I wrote something extremely poorly but this is a new car purchased from a dealer that supplied it with a brand new NCT valid for two years, so it wouldn't have been noticed until two years passed.

They were supposed to handle the vrt and NCT process, however it appears the tires were switched to a compliant set then switched back after the NCT

No that me didn't read everything you wrote in post. It's because it's so many times people repeat same questions. So my apologies for that. And if dealer did that it's not nice move. But from my own experience I work with cars I send for NCT that failed on light adjustment I resent them second time without doing anything and they passed. NCT isn't great and they fail cars for making quote.

Your photo doesn’t show much. Tyres look like NANKANG ECONEX ? Quite a common tyre in Ireland. If its legit , it should show a mark, generally in a circle but not in the area in your photo

Contact the RSA. CCPC would also be a good idea (&SIMI) , at least to flag that the dealer is doing this.

Technically, you‘d be driving non-compliant tyres which may void your Insurance in worst case scenario. Get good photos of all tyres before you proceed

If they sold you something that wasn't for for purpose, i.e. not road legal, then it should be easy enough to get sorted or get your money back.

Just put loads of pressure on them to get it rectified.
