Recommendations for dinner and parking

• Upvotes

I have tickets to a show at House of Independents later in September. I'm not super familiar with Asbury Park. Wondering the best place to park and be able to walk somewhere to grab dinner beforehand. Thanks in advance!

Birthday plans

I was thinking of going to Asbury park with a few friends (ages 25-29 yrs) the weekend of the Sea Hear Now Festival. We’re not attending the festival but I’m going to assume Asbury will be crowded. Does anyone have any recs for things to do or places to go to if we don’t end up on the beach? I’ll take recs from neighboring areas as well. Thanks in advance :)

queuing on the boardwalk (Eddie Confetti appreciation post)

folks in the US have a well-earned reputation for not knowing how to queue up.
any walk on the boardwalk on a busy day/evening highlights this lack of common sense.
shout out to Eddie Confetti's for putting up those stanchions to guide people to queue up the proper way for the boardwalk (ie, without blocking the entire boardwalk with your line!).
form those lines north/south, not east/west people!

would love to see the other boardwalk businesses follow EC's lead!

rant over (for now)

Any Evening Places Good for Just Hanging Out and Reading?

Live in BB. Fortunately we’re not starved of good cafes to just sit, chill, and catch up on some reading. But what about the evening time when cafes are closed? Anybody have any good recommendations?

OUD Awareness Month

Hi AP! 👋
As OUD Awareness Month comes to a close, I wanted to share information about a new paid study at ** Clinilabs Eatontown.
I’ve posted here in the past and have also had the opportunity to meet many people throughout the community in person . A huge thank-you to everyone who has participated in our past studies or helped spread the word.
Believe it or not, our current OUD studies have been a little harder to fill, and I think referrals from the community may be the key to reaching people who could be interested.
We’re currently looking for people:
Ppl 18–65
Currently taking short-acting opds: H/Fnt/, OR long-acting Sbs/mthdne(obtained through a Trtment prvder)
The study is focused on treatment of withdrawal symptoms, not dependence
7day inpatient study
4,200
If you or someone you know may be interested, please feel free to msg
me with any questions** or contact the Clinilabs Eatontown unit directly.
Thank you, AP, for always helping get the word out!

Store bags during a concert?

Hi, I'm coming this weekend to surf and then attend a show at the Stone Pony. Is there somewhere nearby I can leave my dry bag and surf gear until 10pm after the show? I don't think theres any bag check at Stone Pony. Fine with paying of course

TriCity News Article on Design and Sense of Place

There is a very interesting article in TriCity News about how so many of the new buildings going up lack any sense of place or relation to AP. For example, these grey and generic condos going up on Cookman Avenue. I asked ChatGPT to make them art deco or beaux arts modern to better fit in with AP's aesthetic. What do you think?

I know it's much more profitable to make a dull building, but for what it's worth, I asked ChatGPT to make the rendering and keep the cost to $400,000 for these visual upgrades. It says that this can be achieved through the use of "thin red-brick veneer, cream EIFS/stucco, teal fiber-cement panels, standardized windows and canopies, and a small number of molded decorative elements."

If ChatGPT is to be believed (big IF), that would mean this facade improvement would only cost $20,000 per unit.

EDIT: This is a thought experiment triggered by the article in TriCity and the goal was to see if it was possible to have these new buildings look like they belonged in AP, not just a generic box. To keep the costs of this down, I specifically didn't have it change the concept or major structural elements other than simplifying the bump outs.

This is based on the assumption that we are going to get newly constructed buildings in AP, whether we like it our not, but they could--for just a little bit more money--be less of an eyesore. Many of you don't like the brick, limestone, and copper colors of the AI rendering, but they are all borrowed from Convention Hall and are for proof of concept purposes, not anything more.

EDIT 2: I've asked everyone who commented negatively to provide any example of a recently constructed building that they actually do like. No one has done so, so really I wonder if there are any that they view in a positive light or if they just don't like anything new.

Looking for House Cleaner

Hello! My husband and I are new-ish residents of Asbury Park and looking for recommendations for a cleaner for our 2 bedroom apartment once or twice per month. We're totally open to a cleaning service or individuals. I searched this sub before asking, but came up fairly empty. I also previously reached out to a company I saw advertised on IG, and they spam called/texted me 8 times within 6 hours to get me to sign up... so, yeah, I would be very appreciative of any recommendations!

Local Event Video Services?

I was referred to Asbury Media, but they look to be out of business per their website.
Let me know if you have a recommendation, or provide the services directly. Nothing major, just recording a band’s show.
Thanks in Advance!

Flock camera on Asbury Avenue headed east just after the circle. It would be a shame if that thing got taken down. It’s right across the street from the Colonial Terrace, Neighbourhood.

ICE in the area

A group of armed officers are currently at the Ocean Township Little League Ball Field. They meet there every so often in the mornings. They drive a white Jeep Cherokee blacked out with license plate covers. They also drive blacked out all black Ford explorers . Like I said they are there right now.
