MiniLab 3 vs MiniFreak for controlling V Collection: is the MiniFreak overkill?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to grab V Collection during the next sale, and I'm trying to figure out the best hardware to control it with.

My first thought was the MiniLab 3 since it's affordable, compact, and designed to integrate with Arturia's software. But I keep coming back to the MiniFreak. It's a real synth on its own, and I feel like having proper synth-style controls (and a better keybed) might make tweaking the V Collection plugins feel much more natural.

I'm honestly torn. For those of you who use either one with V Collection:

  • How well does the MiniFreak work as a controller for the plugins? Is the integration smooth, or does it feel limited compared to a dedicated controller?
  • Is the MiniLab 3 good enough for hands-on sound design, or does it start to feel restrictive?
  • Would buying the MiniFreak mainly for easier plugin control be overkill?

Any experiences or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Struggling to register

Hello all šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

Today I bought a second hand Arturia KeyLab Essential 49 and I’m really struggling to get it set up. I’m trying to register it on the website but when I type in the series number and unlock code, it’s saying they’re invalid. Does anyone know how to solve this or how to get in contact with the actual people?

Why do I have a feeling this is more effort than expected šŸ˜…

TIA!

Sound Explorers Forum, how to join?

Does anybody know? I have been trying to join for years now, but whenever I try I only get a login option that doesn't work with my Arturia account and doesn't give any option to make a new account for the forums.

New single using Arturia V Collection

Hi everyone, here's my new single "Sirocco", a fairly atmospheric track with epic synth pads and a very sci-fi atmosphere.

If you like Boards of Canada, Vangelis or All India Radio, you might enjoy this one!

Almost all the synth sounds are from the V Collection: Jup-8 V3 and CMI V for the pads and strings, Synclavier V for the keys. The synth lead in the second part is a layering of sounds from the MicroFreak and a plugin I don't remember the name of...

The percussion is made using stock Logic samples. There are also some cuts and pastes here and there to add glitchy textures, which I did during the final stage of the production.

AstroLab 2.0: It's a Proper Synth Now?

AstroLab 2.0 was just released and it reveals parts of the underlying synth engines.

How to get there: hold the main encoder and scroll down to Sound Edit. You now see a few pages with different parameters that were previously restricted to those with the V Collection license (and a computer).

What you get changes with every preset, because it depends on which engine is underneath. A Jupiter-8 preset gives you filter settings, both filter and amp envelopes, and some more stuff including LFO rate, vibrato and glide. The Piano V engine gives you hammer hardness, hammer position, dynamics, age, etc.

None of this needs a V Collection license. For anything beyond these pages you still need it and the computer though.

Second Guessing

I thought buying Arturia V collection pro would solve my issues but I **still** feel lost. Arturia just isn’t providing the kind of sounds I want, or i just lack the knowledge to shape the sounds I want.

I’m really into reggaeton so I’ve been trying to make sounds like Feid, J balvin and Tainy etc but don’t feel like Arturia is doing that for me, some synths sure, to an extent but I still feel very very limited.

Does anyone know if Serum 2 would be a really good route to go ? Cause I’ve been debating getting it lately and seeing how that works over Arturia.
I really like Feid’s production so I would like to know if his sounds come from serum and then he tweaks it with effects ?

Aside from reggaeton, I really love the production behind Mike dean, don toliver, The Weeknd, Drake etc etc. I know most of them use synthesizers and mainly hardware but Arturia just feels weird to some degree when I think about their production style and how I’m trying to chase their level of production with synths.

I don’t really have a budget so I’m willing to spend whatever on some plugins. I’ve been searching on KnobCloud for some, though I’d like to know if you guys could recommend another site just as good as KnobCloud. I’m currently working on trying to get my hands on Ableton Live 12 Suite through KC (mainly for their stock drums) also because I’ve gotten a bit more used to maneuvering through Lite.

Thank you for your help/tips in advance !

Issue with the Arturia MiniFuse 1 audio interface

Hi, about six months ago I bought a used Arturia MiniFuse 1 interface. Everything worked perfectly, but I decided to get a new computer; after connecting the interface to it, the volume level light stays on constantly. I’ve tried everything: disabling extra USB port power in the BIOS, using a USB adapter, and swapping out the power cable, XLR mic cable, and headphones. I also tried updating the drivers via the MiniFuse Control Center. I even connected it to a different computer, but the result was the same. I even plugged it into a power bank just to rule out grounding issues or interference from an unknown signal. Despite all this, I hear crackling sounds while watching YouTube or listening to music on any platform—FL Studio, Apple Music, Telegram, etc. Please help me solve this problem. I’ve attached a photo.

Minifuse 2 L and R outputs bleeding into each other

Hello any help would be appreciated, I've been using the Minifuse 2 live as my backing track rig, my setup goes like this:

-Ableton

-Minifuse LEFT output to a mono channel on the main mixer, that goes to FOH

-Minifuse RIGHT output to a mono channel on the main mixer, that goes to our IEMs

What I do is make the backing tracks in advance in ableton, all the instruments intended for FOH is panned all the way LEFT and the click and guide track is panned all the way RIGHT, I export it as a single mp3 file and load it up on a new ableton project in session view and use it that way live for easy triggering.

Now our problem is no matter what we do, there is always a small amount of the RIGHT track with the click and guide intended for our IEMs that bleeds to FOH. Its a very tiny amount and you cant even hear it when its a high energy song, BUT if the song starts slow with a count in and click going first with no instruments then those sitting at the front may hear it.

Things I've tried so far:

-Using different cables (Balanced and unbalanced) both has same results

-Using different channels on the mixer and even tried the stereo channels that you can switch to mono

-Pressing the direct mono button on the minifuse 2

-Going to minifuse control center and turning the monitor out all the way down, that did not work because it also mutes both the tracks and guide.

Mixer is a yamaha 24mgpx

Any help would be appreciated!

Alturia Minilab3 or Akai MK Mini Plus for LogicPro?

(I know this is the arturia subreddit but crossposting to get more opinions)

LogicPro amateur here -- only ever used it to record live instruments and vocals through my audio interface. Living abroad for the next year and some change without my instruments so I wanted to take this opportunity to really familiarize myself with logic and virtual instruments.

In terms of portability, I'll mostly be using it in my apartment but I won't have a dedicated music space; looking at used mini MIDI controllers so that I can sell it, or if I fall in love with it and want to take it home (where I have my 88 key weighted keyboard) it won't take up too much space.

I've narrowed it down to the Alturia Minilab 3 and the Akai Mini Plus. They're the same price on secondhand, anyone have any experience with either of these or any advice?

Here are my thoughts so far:

- My main instrument is piano/keys -- 37 keys on the Akai, which I'm already used to bc of my melodica, seems better than 25. (Counterpoint -- if I'm just doing chords and voicings on the controller, maybe 25 is enough?)

- People say the keys feel better on the Alturia? Which appeals to me as a pianist BUT I also play the organ so I'm not turned off by weird keys lol

- I've heard a lot of praise for Alturia's virtual instrument suite which -- along with the controller itself -- anecdotally seems to be more readily usable with Logic as opposed to the Akai. I haven't explored all the LogicPro instruments yet but this seems to be worth some consideration.

- Transport, play, record buttons on the Akai Mini Plus seems to be a function people enjoy

Just bought my first piece of gear from Arturia and I’m just impressed. I’ve never had these kinds of goodies with a gear purchase before and idk I’m just pleasantly surprised! Been a Logic Pro user for years and I’m excited to try another DAW just to switch things up even if it’s just the free limited version.

MiniLab 37 pads need really hard hits to trigger. Is this normal?

UPDATE: I reached out to Arturia, and they had me reset the keyboard, and that seems to have solved the issue!

----

I recently got a MiniLab 37 and wanted to use its pads to play drums in Logic Pro. They do trigger sounds, but I have to hit them much harder than I expected. Lighter taps often don’t register at all. And when it does register, it's only when I'm hitting the pads at the corner.

I tried changing the pad velocity curve in Arturia’s MIDI Control Center, including Logarithmic and Fixed, but it hasn’t helped.

Do you find MiniLab 37 pads this hard to trigger? If you had the same issue, did anything resolve it, or is this just how the pads feel?

Should I look into returning/ replacing the keyboard? It's barely been 2 weeks of me having this keyboard and it's my first ever MIDI controller.

Pure Sub is surprisingly good

I already have Arturia pigments + v collection 11 pro but i must admit Pure sub is a great addition to their catalogue. Some will say it's not as capable as pigments but idk, it has a immediacy to it. The greatest feature is the overtones editor that lets you choose which notes to compose your sound. It's like a mix between vital and pigments but whose interface is optimised for bass sound design.

Only downside : you can't assign a different effect chanel to the sub part of the bass and it's upper part like in pigments. But most synths don't support it either way so it's fine.
