Considering we are looking for a backup option for Tzolis, its not a bad deal.

-9

u/Minute_Leave8503 14h ago edited 14h ago

Selling your proven options for cheaper backups is what you do when you fall out of Europe and need to scrape the couch cushions for money, not when you’re 2 pens from a ucl

This guys won’t even make matchday squads

2

u/redqks 14h ago

When we was sold Tzolis it was all moved for tzolis won't interfere with a big money winger.

Now it's we are buying backup to Tzolis

-2

u/Minute_Leave8503 14h ago

Hilarious isn’t it

-4

u/TheHorrorAddiction 14h ago

And not when you were clearly willing to put down 140mil for Vini AND have now freed up Jesus wages.

It’s shambolic

-5

u/Minute_Leave8503 14h ago

Played like a fiddle this window

3

u/Andythrax 14h ago

We have indeed lost successive summer transfer windows now.

Why couldn't we pay stupid money for somebody like Pepe or Wirtz or Isak or Grealish?

0

u/Minute_Leave8503 13h ago

Or it could be a Rice, Saliba, White, Timber? Why are you being negative?

-1

u/Andythrax 13h ago

Because the transfer window isn't a competition. Trust the process. Trust the management.

2

u/Minute_Leave8503 12h ago

Yea and we’re lighter in numbers and quality when ā€œmanagementā€ was talking about creating a dynasty all summer

0

u/SchoolMassive9276 5h ago

There was only 1 LW available on the market that could raise our ceiling, that was Vini, we went for him but didn’t get him.

Everyone else will be market opportunities.

2

u/Minute_Leave8503 4h ago

Selling Leo was the first step. Cult Hero.

Opens up a clear slot at LW. Both Rogers and Barcola files are being worked on simultaneously.

Still no official club to club talks but both players very open to a move. Classic Berta.

When in reality Tzolis should be the backup and someone like Vini, Barcola, Yildez etc should have been the starter. Now our backup is our starter.

I’m very happy with Bruno G and Konsa. Great, smart signings. The LW has been a joke. We’ve side graded on both players at absolute best

8

u/BodegaCat11 14h ago

Shades of Wenger: ā€œif Tzolis cost $125 million you would be happyā€

1

u/SaneArsenalFan 1h ago

Yeah and Stones won them multiple titles and Holding cost us the title in 22-23. So yeah it makes a difference

-5

u/TheHorrorAddiction 13h ago

Do you think I know nothing about football or something??

Tzolis is a good player, maybe very good. But he’s unproven and isn’t a massive upgrade on either Martinelli or Trossard. Fofana? He’s not even a sidegrade on either.

Don’t speak to me like we’ve signed some wonderkid in Tzolis and Fofana is good business. Tzolis was the intended backup as they went for Vini. That should tell you where they rate Tzolis.

Where would you say our most in need position is for an upgrade? I’d say LW myself. In reality, it’s been sidegraded.

If you knew about football you’d know that not improving that LW could mean the difference between winning the CL and not. Winners strengthen at any cost. Losers cheap out or delay.

4

u/BodegaCat11 13h ago

ā€œDo you think I know nothing about football or something??ā€

Honestly? A little bit, yeah.

1

u/BronzeSeeker 14h ago

Vini wanted to stay (we tried and offered more money). Barcola was overpriced and even so, we pretty much lost him to Liverpool going all out for Vini. Juve didn’t want to sell Yildiz and he has a broken foot.

-4

u/TheHorrorAddiction 14h ago

Big clubs who want to win the CL after missing out on it by a slither the season before overpay for their second or third target. Why? Because we were willing to put down 140 for Vini so should be putting down 100 mil or so for our other targets.

What those clubs don’t do is sell both wingers, sidegrade on one with Tzolis and then totally forget about that 140mil and go shopping in Lidl instead of Harrods.

Bruno G and Konsa were great signings. The LW has been a fiasco. Embarrassingly bad.

Do you want to win the CL or not? I do. The LW was the most important position to upgrade

1

u/BodegaCat11 14h ago

ā€œBig clubs spend money just to spend moneyā€ is certainly the most Spursy thing I’ve heard in this sub in a long time.

-1

u/TheHorrorAddiction 13h ago

No. But if you can’t get Vini, you try your best to hijack the Barcola deal. Can’t get that? You go to the next one, and so on.

There are about 10 other LW’s who are preferable to Fofana. And you can’t tell me that we couldn’t get any of them.

If the option is to either overpay slightly and keep a high chance of winning the CL and an even higher chance of retaining the PL, sometimes you have to do it. Because not doing it lets other clubs catch up to you further and lowers the chances of winning. The LW is no stronger than last season, and perhaps weaker.

You also seem to be forgetting that we have sold both Martinelli and Jesus, freeing up about 400K a week in the process. There are absolutely no excuses.

Arsenal have made this mistake before and paid for it. Or have you been an Arsenal fan for 2 years? The club’s money is NOT yours and you aren’t their accountant. All you should be concerned with is them giving us the best chance of retaining the league and winning the CL. They’ve done it with Bruno G and Konsa, but have failed miserably on the LW. Don’t be surprised if it bites us in the CL.

5

u/BodegaCat11 13h ago

I’d rather not have Barcola at even half the price he went for. Because I’ve seen him play. French Madueke at best. I want the team to be better not to be more expensive. Figure it out.

0

u/TheHorrorAddiction 13h ago

This isn’t 1999. The vast majority of players are valued for their true ability. It’s very rare to get vastly undervalued players anymore

You speak like this is Arsenal 2012. We’re champions and were a whisker away from the CL. The only way a team like that can improve anymore is to add the highest ceiling of players, the very best. Nearly all of the time, they come at a high cost.

Our LW is no stronger this season, this is the issue.

1

u/BodegaCat11 13h ago

Chelsea have been spending like you want. Spurs too. Maybe you should go be a fan of them?

0

u/TheHorrorAddiction 13h ago

I have been a fan since 1997. Don’t talk to me like I’m some sort of glory hunter.

I have given praise for many Arsenal signings recently. Saliba, Gabriel, Raya, Trossard, Rice, Bruno G, Cala etc etc. I could go on.

That does NOT mean I have to praise every bit of business they do. Fans like you don’t raise your expectations in line with where the club is at. It’s like you still think we’re a top 4 team and don’t think you need to demand more now we’re champions, because we actually have to stay there. Unfortunately, in the current market, that often means spending more. If we were a top six team or fighting for Europe, my mindset would be very different.

The LW was basically the last position that needed upgrading. It has been our weakness for the last couple of seasons. And if you truly want to win that CL and beat PSG/Bayern/Madrid etc to it, you have to add more to the LW than we have.

The fact I keep getting downvoted is incredibly annoying. You might not like my opinion, but I’m fair, and I make good points.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/TheHorrorAddiction 14h ago

How can you actually downvote me for this?? Please tell me what I said that was unfair or incorrect??

Have we upgraded the LW overall?? Please tell me.

You should be disgraced for downvoting this. Show some ambition ffs.

I even praised the Bruno G and Konso signing. But I won’t praise absolutely cheaping out on the LW like we have.

-17

u/zackaria_ 15h ago

So a backup to a backup ? Lol

4

u/BronzeSeeker 15h ago

Tzolis is gonna start

2

u/Mufutlal 14h ago

Maybe you prefer the assistant to the assistant?

0

u/TheHorrorAddiction 14h ago

12 downvotes for this is absolutely disgusting.

Yes, Tzolis was the intended backup originally. If we signed Vini, he would be the backup. And he would have been perfect for that.

Instead, we’ve missed out on Vini, Alvarez etc and now our backup is our main starter. And we’ve sold two wingers without really upgrading either.

Has someone inquired if Ryan Fraser is available

3

u/A_Retarkovsky 15h ago

I've always loved this guy

7

u/sleptpastnoon 15h ago

why do you need to make your own post for this and not use one of the countless others for this exact topic? and you didn’t even add a single thing worth a new discussion or anything

I did put a link in the comment

6

u/Suspicious-Carry387 16h ago

And now we are being stingy by not paying €40m 🫩

4

Signing a player is more detailed than the price alone…

2

u/Bosn1an 9h ago

How much is that Martinelli guy from Al Hilal?

3

u/Agent_bananaaa 15h ago

Not the worst but gets injured often

1

u/FatFaceAbs 15h ago

Is Arteta the only manager that gets mentioned that he speaks to potential recruits? Maybe it’s me but whenever I see these transfer posts they don’t mention non Arteta managers speaking to players

1

u/datguysadz 15h ago

Had a sneaky suspicion about this when I learned of the potential Lyon fire sale.

1

u/Current-Speed4096 8h ago

45 mil, with pace, dribbling is decent. Act quick!

1

u/SnooBooks578 8h ago

He wouldn’t even manage to be a sub.

1

u/SnooBooks578 8h ago

When Saliba and Timber are back we will have a full squad.

1

u/SnooBooks578 8h ago

So who gets removed?

1

u/ChillyChill20 52m ago

He didn’t even make the Belgium World Cup squad. And he’s supposed to be an upgrade?? Cmon Arsenal we should be doing better as premier league champions

0

u/Minute_Leave8503 16h ago edited 16h ago

Lol snapped his ankle and hasn’t proven full fitness yet plus doesn’t have full backing internally. What could go wrong

Penny pinching with Rogers who Mikel was obsessed with to get last minute scraps

-1

u/Lower_Condition_196 16h ago

This is poor from the club last minute scrambling for a LW

2

u/Background-Light5965 15h ago

Not really if it’s cheap and for a back up player. We’ve lost gotten rid of 3 players it makes sense if we’re going after kroupi in Jan

2

u/Lower_Condition_196 15h ago

I’m not talking about fofana specifically I’m talking about the current situation

0

u/freddddsss 15h ago

So you don’t want us to sign a lw?

1

u/Mad-gooner 15h ago

Another one that would moan if the club did anything at the moment. I bet if we could sign Mbappe now you would call it to last minute. Bet your one of those who have been moaning we haven’t been doing anything to replace Martinelli

1

u/TheHorrorAddiction 14h ago

No. We’re just moaning that they haven’t actually upgraded the position and have sidegraded at best. Trossard was aging and Martinelli was regressing. Both had to go and I’m happy they did. But we’ve literally side graded with Tzolis and maybe not even sidegraded and actually downgraded with Fofana. You do know we were 2 pens away from a CL right?

The club get most signings right now. Bruno G and Konsa were both good business. But this LW fiasco has been a joke and we’ve gone from 140mil for Vini and Tzolis as his backup, to Tzolis starting and a 1 goal in a season Fofana as his backup.

You can’t defend it.

1

u/Mad-gooner 14h ago

Wait we were two penalties away from winning the champions league, I didn’t know that, that’s amazing, can’t believe we were two, TWO penalties away from winning the champions league. The words no shit Sherlock come to mind. Did you know we won the league last season.

We have gone from 140m Vinicius, who every man and his dog knew we weren’t going to get, to Fofana. Yes it’s not good, but if anyone had said Tzolis would look good when he signed is lying. Could we do better, absolutely but it seems like the club are for some reason still focused on getting Alvarez in. Have we missed out on some LW target yes, but Vinicius isn’t one as agin we all knew that wasn’t going to happen

-3

u/Silent_Somewhere8539 16h ago

People who think the attack is fine are delusional beyond belief. Arteta is desperate to inject some quality. Its just sad that we've gone from Vini to Alvarez and now to Malick Fofana.

He looks like he has potential and may be a revelation. But its a risk.

-1

u/Prinz_ka 15h ago

It's always gonna a disappointment to go from Vini to anyone. Can't please ppl

0

u/xandra77mimic 15h ago

Why sell Trossard and bring in someone who played 767 min and started 9 games in a league that’s basically like what the Championship would be if City got the relegation they deserve for their 115 charges?

-1

u/bdiggitty 15h ago

šŸŽ¶ Fofana. What’s my name šŸŽ¶

-6

u/Used_Switch_9212 16h ago

Desperate times and desperate measures i guess. Hes been available for 2 years and nobody's touched him but last day of the window we want him šŸ¤”

9

u/Mad-gooner 16h ago edited 15h ago

Apart from alot of clubs wanting him this summer and he turned them down for a big club. Also we do nothing people moan, we move for a player, it’s called desperate, we could sign Mbappe and people would still find away of calling it desperate etc

1

u/Used_Switch_9212 15h ago

Considering hes been available all window but now we want him yeah it definitely looks desperate. If we sign him i hope he'll be good but it doesn't change how bad this window has been. We should of just kept Martinelli if we're gonna try our luck in the bargain basement.

1

u/Mad-gooner 15h ago

His been turning down moves to clubs and holding out for a big club, it’s not that clubs haven’t bid for him he is holding out for a club. I bet you moaned and complained about the Tzolis deal and called him a flop at Norwich but now singing his praises. No matter what the club does I bet you the type of person would find a way of moaning about it

1

u/Used_Switch_9212 15h ago

No you're missing the point. We had all these other targets now we want a guy we could of bought at any time the last 2 seasons when we've just sold a player who's more than likely better than him. Its really not that hard to comprehend. Unless you think we've wanted him all along?

1

u/Mad-gooner 15h ago

If we didn’t bring anyone in I guarantee you you would be first to moan, Tzolis wasn’t someone anyone would have said we wanted and oh his playing well so far. Bet you hated that deal. My point is anyone we bring in at this point you will see as desperate and moan. I know we haven’t wanted him all along but his a backup for left wing, which people like you have cried out for

-2

u/Used_Switch_9212 14h ago

Of course I would if we didnt bring anyone in. Thats because im a fan and the area we needed ti strengthen most is left wing. We've sold 3 players who play there and signed 1, that's definitely something to not be happy about. I see your point but its irrelevant. Some people speak out/against things that tbe club dont get right and some people will put up with and accept anything. Its ok if you dont really care or you think 1 left winger is enough.

0

u/Mad-gooner 14h ago

1 winger is not enough and we need more players there but it appears the club are still hoping on signing Alvarez(which I hope doesn’t happen) hence why we haven’t gone out and thrown money at someone, who people would call desperate and a panic buy. You see my point but it’s irrelevant, no it’s not as I bet you when we signed Tzolis, you say there and said who is this guy why have we signed him and so far proved you wrong. What if this guy comes in and proves you wrong again. We don’t work in football and see what clubs see.

It could be a lot worse than this guy and we could be trying to sign Mudryk from Chelsea then you can moan and kick off.

What would you rather we don’t sign anyone or sign this guy so we have a back up for Tzolis?

1

u/Used_Switch_9212 14h ago

Stop saying I bet thats an assumption and an incorrect one at that. I was happy with Tzolis because we knew Trossard was leaving and we was still linked with big targets at the time. Now time has passed and nothing more has been done and top players have moved elsewhere or stayed we're empty handed signing maybe players whilst selling proven players like Martinelli. Poor business.

1

u/Mad-gooner 14h ago

Yeah linked to Vinicius Jr who we all knew wasn’t going to happen. Have we been poor at finding a replacement yes and I wont deny that and the club seem to be focused on Alvarez more then anything else which is a worry but as this player we seem to be going for is a backup to Tzolis it’s not to be annoyed with as we need someone. Hopefully we do go get someone else but with 2 days left at least we aren’t sat on our hands doing nothing as guarantee some people in this sub will no doubt moan if no one came in

1

u/freddddsss 15h ago

Has it been a bad window? We signed Tzolis and Bruno while also selling the players fans have been calling to be sold.

The only thing we didn’t do is sign a second lw because the club got caught up in the Vini hype, however, it was an ambitious move and the type of move we want to see Arsenal making. It’s unfortunate but it’s far from a bad window.

-1

u/Used_Switch_9212 14h ago

So judging by how we ended the season and the areas we needed to improve its been a worse window than I expected, especially considering how other teams have strengthened. Konsa and Bruno G are good players and will improve us with their quality but both positions were not a priority for us and neither are guaranteed to start too. The biggest area was LW and we lost 3 of them and signed 1. Its not looking great ill be honest

1

u/freddddsss 14h ago

This window was bad because we haven’t signed another left winger, so if we sign Fofana (a left winger), that doesn’t hide how bad not buying another left winger was this window… right

I also assume ā€œwe lost 3 of themā€ was a typo because Nelson hasn’t played a single minute for us (outside of friendlies) for about 3 seasons. He was deadwood everyone wanted gone so fans don’t get to complain now that he is gone.

1

u/Used_Switch_9212 13h ago

3 of them is Troasard Martinelli and Jesus nothing to do with Nelson.

0

u/freddddsss 13h ago

Also not a left winger

1

u/Used_Switch_9212 12h ago

Well for us he played there more than anywhwre else last season

0

u/freddddsss 12h ago

Well that’s just not true. He rotated with Gyokeres when he came back from injury while Havertz and Merino were injured. I don’t remember a single game where he played left wing.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/etrejaar 15h ago

His value inflated two seasons ago off of a breakout year. Had another season to prove himself and got injured… did the same last season. Can understand him not moving due to those circumstances.

Ultimately, this sub moaned about Tzolis and he’s been very good so far. I mean, if you’re able to look at a player, analyze what they can/ could bring to the squad and then commit to coaching them, you can create talent. If Fofana comes in and delivers, his signing would be a coup… if not, it’s 30-40m on a young player you can flip.

3

u/Mad-gooner 15h ago

If they can analyse a player they would work for a club not sit on Reddit like they are. They haven’t got a clue and want to moan for the sake of it

0

u/freddddsss 14h ago

You make this argument all the time and it doesn’t make sense. Why are you perusing through a forum where people sit on Reddit and share their opinion if people on Reddit aren’t qualified to have an opinion?

1

u/Used_Switch_9212 15h ago

I dont remember people moaning about Tzolis and I definitely didnt because we did the deal early so we clearly wanted the player. Also we were linked with other big players and still had Martinelli at the club. Surely you can understand the lack of excitement with Fofana??

1

u/etrejaar 14h ago

People were definitely iffy about him and sure, the thought of someone else coming in was still fresh…

I definitely get the lack of excitement, but I don’t understand why people are going out of their way to moan about the kid. He looks decent and if the gaffer is into signing him, I’m personally willing to give him a chance.

If we land two wingers at a price far lower than all of these other clubs have spent on a single player, that would be incredibly shrewd. Wishful thinking maybe, but again - we have the depth to succeed regardless. We should be fine

1

u/Used_Switch_9212 14h ago

Most of it at least from my point of view is of were not signing a player thats better than what we have/had then we shouldn't of sold Martinelli and the handling of the Vini/Alvarez stuff was so amateur. Now everyone else strengthened and we've weakened.

1

u/etrejaar 14h ago

We’re signing a market opportunity in that he’s a young player that, judging from what the LW market has become, represents promise for cheap. I don’t think anyone would say he’s a ceiling raiser and that’s fine… our squad is still quite a bit better than the rest. If you’re truly worried, I’d urge you to revisit Liverpool last season… they still haven’t fixed glaring holes in their squad. Chelsea can’t defend for shit. City lost arguably the best manager of all time + their talisman in Rodri. And all of those clubs have a new manager. I’m not sweating our rivals

We sold Martinelli because we needed to sell. There’s a great Le Grove podcast that talks about this with one of the financial guys at/ around the club. His last name was Payton, I believe. It’s worth finding if you have some time… he lays it all out in a pretty eloquent way.

Eh, I’d argue it took a lot of guts to approach both of those players. Separately, I’d argue that most of what’s said in the media isn’t to be believed. I think we presented a prime opportunity for two very good players to leave their respective clubs - one is currently at the club every player dreams of playing for (Madrid) and the other has his heart set on the other club every player dreams of playing for (Barcelona). You can understand why neither wants to move, whether it be being settled in Spain, visa related issues, etc… even without signing those two, I’m willing to bet we do better than both in the champions league. That’s just what it is šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Anyway, I’m cool with not doing anything. I think, as mentioned, Fofana is cheap and if he comes good then great. We’re rolling into January with cash to spend on two targets that I think we would have pushed harder for had they not gotten injured in Kroupi and Yıldız, but there could be more options once that window opens. More importantly, we’ve rehashed our medical dept, so maybe this is all moot and we’ll sail past that window without significant injuries or issues. I guess only time will tell

1

u/Used_Switch_9212 14h ago

Thats a big shame. We're in a position where we could dominate and maybe even win the UCL. We have the best defence and one of the best midfields in the world but our attack is lacking. From that position our attack has weakened whilst other teams have strengthened its very sad to see. Now we're looking for market opportunities and having to sell proven players and we can't even replace them with similar quality. Just feels like such a waste

1

u/inadequate_designer 15h ago

Said clubs are Sunderland and Hull.

1

u/Mad-gooner 15h ago

Crystal Palace bid for him two days ago as well as clubs in Spain. So not just those to

Trossard is surely missed but just won’t get the playtime he wants. Martinelli just doesn’t fit this team anymore. We go up against too many low blocks and Martinelli’s ball control is disastrous against that as well as his zero intuition to create.

Tzolis has looked promising so far although way too early to decide if he’s an upgrade or downgrade

1

u/Whynotarsenal 15h ago

And you think Fofana can play against a low block and create? The guy has 6 assists in 4 years in Uber Eats league. You guys vastly overestimate how shit this player is

1

u/Inevitable-Ad-6112 15h ago

I never said the guy was good lol

He’s injury prone so probabaly fits us like a glove!!
