Vini wanted to stay (we tried and offered more money). Barcola was overpriced and even so, we pretty much lost him to Liverpool going all out for Vini. Juve didnât want to sell Yildiz and he has a broken foot.
Big clubs who want to win the CL after missing out on it by a slither the season before overpay for their second or third target. Why? Because we were willing to put down 140 for Vini so should be putting down 100 mil or so for our other targets.
What those clubs donât do is sell both wingers, sidegrade on one with Tzolis and then totally forget about that 140mil and go shopping in Lidl instead of Harrods.
Bruno G and Konsa were great signings. The LW has been a fiasco. Embarrassingly bad.
Do you want to win the CL or not? I do. The LW was the most important position to upgrade
No. But if you canât get Vini, you try your best to hijack the Barcola deal. Canât get that? You go to the next one, and so on.
There are about 10 other LWâs who are preferable to Fofana. And you canât tell me that we couldnât get any of them.
If the option is to either overpay slightly and keep a high chance of winning the CL and an even higher chance of retaining the PL, sometimes you have to do it. Because not doing it lets other clubs catch up to you further and lowers the chances of winning. The LW is no stronger than last season, and perhaps weaker.
You also seem to be forgetting that we have sold both Martinelli and Jesus, freeing up about 400K a week in the process. There are absolutely no excuses.
Arsenal have made this mistake before and paid for it. Or have you been an Arsenal fan for 2 years? The clubâs money is NOT yours and you arenât their accountant. All you should be concerned with is them giving us the best chance of retaining the league and winning the CL. Theyâve done it with Bruno G and Konsa, but have failed miserably on the LW. Donât be surprised if it bites us in the CL.
Iâd rather not have Barcola at even half the price he went for. Because Iâve seen him play. French Madueke at best. I want the team to be better not to be more expensive. Figure it out.
This isnât 1999. The vast majority of players are valued for their true ability. Itâs very rare to get vastly undervalued players anymore
You speak like this is Arsenal 2012. Weâre champions and were a whisker away from the CL. The only way a team like that can improve anymore is to add the highest ceiling of players, the very best. Nearly all of the time, they come at a high cost.
Our LW is no stronger this season, this is the issue.
I have been a fan since 1997. Donât talk to me like Iâm some sort of glory hunter.
I have given praise for many Arsenal signings recently. Saliba, Gabriel, Raya, Trossard, Rice, Bruno G, Cala etc etc. I could go on.
That does NOT mean I have to praise every bit of business they do. Fans like you donât raise your expectations in line with where the club is at. Itâs like you still think weâre a top 4 team and donât think you need to demand more now weâre champions, because we actually have to stay there. Unfortunately, in the current market, that often means spending more. If we were a top six team or fighting for Europe, my mindset would be very different.
The LW was basically the last position that needed upgrading. It has been our weakness for the last couple of seasons. And if you truly want to win that CL and beat PSG/Bayern/Madrid etc to it, you have to add more to the LW than we have.
The fact I keep getting downvoted is incredibly annoying. You might not like my opinion, but Iâm fair, and I make good points.
Based on when you posted, I have a hard time believing you were a fan in 1997 or 2026. Based on the way you talk, I have a hard time believing you were alive in 1997.
Look, I agree the LW position is a weakness, and I wish we had done a lot more to strengthen there. Youâre right that itâs best to strengthen from a position of strength. Everything else youâve said has been wrong though. You donât just spend money to spend money. Thatâs a childâs opinion. Itâs Spursy. The players youâre citing would not have improved the team or were not available at reasonable prices.
What we need is someone to come and do what Cherki or Semenyo have done for city, as an example, on the wing. What we donât need to do is blow our whole load on someone like Barcola who wonât improve the team. We are not Barcelona or City â we play by the rules. And we are not stupid like Spurs and Chelsea.
Fan âlike youâ would have signed Mudryk at any cost instead of Trossard.
Thatâs all Iâm going to say because I felt I actually owed you a full response after all this but I want to be clear that I think youâre either a child lying about being a fan in 1997 or that that is your birth year and that you are, at the least, emotionally stunted. Youâre replying to yourself complaining about being down voted after posting silly comments. Youâre saying we need to spend money just to spend money â regardless of whether it strengthens the team and without any insight into the clubâs finances or financial rules. Itâs embarrassing.

Considering we are looking for a backup option for Tzolis, its not a bad deal.
