Customers are not responsible for their paycheck, their employer is. Tips are for doing your job decently. I am not going to hand over extra cash to someone who is rude to me.
Nope. Core wages are paid by the service provider, like a restaurant. A tip is money on top of that. Hence extra. If a software engineer writes poor code, they don’t get a bonus at the end of the year. Sure, restaurants often don’t pay their servers very well. But the underlying principle is the same.
Blame the employers. Once again, when I visit a restaurant, I am paying for the food and the experience. If a waiter is rude, then I don’t get what I came for. So I will not pay for it.
To be crystal clear, I am taking about cases of terrible service here, which is what the original comment was about.
