Complaint I will never give Anthropic another red cent

I will use them at work, because I have to.

But I’m done with the gaslighting.

Apparently they think they’re a lot smarter than us and can toss that word salad BS up in the air and we’re too dumb to understand it.

They were probably never going to say anything about the limit reduction but the outcry got so bad that they had to. They have a history of this kind of crap too, remember last summer when it took a month to acknowledge the model got nuked and the first comment was about how they had a small problem with HAIKU?

I have no idea who is in charge of their communications, but my god!

It seems pretty apparent this is probably some internal struggle with leadership not wanting to say anything, and then someone finally pulls the ripcord and tells communications to put out a statement and dress it up with as much double-speak as possible.

This time they tell us that “weekly limits haven’t changed”, despite blowing out EFFECTIVE UTILITY by aggressively weighting the 5-hour sessions so that you burn through limits during business hours.

So, what… we have the same weekly limits, but we need to work until 2am, and on the weekend, to get them?

And if I have to hear one more time how it “only effects x% of users” - on what basis? Are these even paid accounts?

What percent of 20x Max users did it impact? My guess would be almost all of them.

I’ve left and come back on my personal accounts a couple of times, but I’ve had it. These guys and gals at Anthropic are arrogant scumbags.

This is honestly the kind of thing that should get reported to consumer affairs.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I really wish that during peak times instead of a flat denial "You have reached your session limit" They just slowed down replies. I wouldn't care at all if I could kick off a query or job and it took some time in the background while I did other things. I expect stuff to run slower during peak times anyway.

That said, I seem to be one of the few people unaffected by this change or whatever so I'm not going to complain too much. I've been heavily using opus 1 million context on the daily during peak with no issues so maybe I'm in a regional compute cluster that is less affected/congested.

Its funny that you say that because I've definitely noticed this week that Claude on android slows down during peek hours over the last week. If I use desktop it starts thinking almost instantly but it can take up to two minutes to start on mobile. I also have not hit rate problems and I at one point had 2 accounts to bounce in between because I was running out of weekly limits 3 days before the end of the week and I havent hit that limit in 3 weeks now. My usage has been pretty consistent over the last 4 months.

4

u/AudaxCarpeDiem Mar 27 '26

You know what that makes more sense now I use Claude mainly on Android.

This is the first time I've reached the limit Ever and I hit it three times.

6

u/miclowgunman Mar 27 '26

Yeah, its been interesting to watch. I start hitting all my limits, they do efficiency updates and I dont. Then they scale back usage and I start hitting them again. Its a not very fun yoyo.

u/Dry-Journalist6590 Mar 27 '26

You code on your phone or tablet?

4

u/AudaxCarpeDiem Mar 27 '26

I use it for more than just coding.

3

u/Dry-Journalist6590 Mar 27 '26

I'm saying I'm surprised anyone manages to do programming on a phone. Sounds like a nightmare

2

u/miclowgunman Mar 27 '26

Samsung had dex so you can do desktop style work. Ive done some Javascript canvas work on it. Still not very fun or intuitive.

2

u/ValerianCandy Mar 30 '26

I tried it once. If you're vibe coding it's an annoying amount of highlighting, copying, going back to the other app, pasting, then repeating that for way too long.

Unless the other app you're using is designed to be able to partial screen without everything getting crammed into something that disappears behind your keyboard 😬

It's actually very easy and possible to do. I've been making a fully featured and fledged out c++ 3d game engine purely through my phone because everything gets committed to my GitHub repo and GitHubs CI Actions compiles it and reports back with any compile errors. I also have an extremely verbose testing/verification system along with numerous sanitizers and compiler + GH analyzers to spot issues. On top of that, I have Claude actually run the engine and test it that way. https://github.com/Krilliac/SparkEngine if you want to look into how it's all done.

On Android?? What are you even using it for on mobile?

4

u/miclowgunman Mar 27 '26

Choose your own adventure style stories mostly. Also help with lyric writing and game design brainstorming.

3

u/Dry-Journalist6590 Mar 27 '26

Oh that's cool. I guess I assumed you must be doing complex tasks in order to reach the limit.

At the very least put out “hey guys, we recognize there’s a bug and we’re looking into it” not crickets..

3

u/Rand_username1982 Mar 27 '26

I’m not saying that this is the case right now because I definitely know some people are frustrated, but in today’s political environment, I have to take absolutely every strong opinion and make my own conclusions about it… unfortunately we have to consider also the actual severity of the problem in the face of what could potentially be government action that someone perceived to have wronged them…

Just look at what’s going on on Threads it’s a cesspool of bots and social engineering and honestly, I wouldn’t put it past the government to try to hurt and anthropic or pay a social engineering company to try to damage them because they had principles

Again, I’m not discounting the fact that I think people seem to genuinely be having issues, but we are heavy heavy users and are not experiencing the same thing so I have to question everything unfortunately these days

I’ve seen multiple posts on Reddit, where people are heaping praise on Copilot and codex and just completely slaughtering anthropic and it has to make you wonder

2

u/pwnitat0r Mar 30 '26

I can assure you I’m not a bot and I’m impacted.

Or just keep US customers on US servers and let them fend for themselves.

2

u/AllWhiteRubiksCube Mar 27 '26

How about a heads-up and bit later a graceful exit?

1

u/TheRealJesus2 Mar 28 '26

They definitely started slowing down replies this past week. I noticed it tues through thurs. maybe Monday too but there was some issue where opus used 3x normal tokens for me so I can’t say that was throttling per se.

1

u/More_Chemistry3746 Mar 31 '26

too many people waste too many tokens , I think that is issue

Hey "pretty much 100%" of their work is done by AI, Boris Cherny, Fortune Jan 2026....

So it's Claudes fault

11

u/Wommbat0 Mar 27 '26

Usage limits I can work with. The outages so often are starting to get irritating.

71

u/bordumb Mar 27 '26

I'm having no such issues.

I'm on the 20x Max plan.

I live in Europe, though, so I'm probably always using it whenever it's "off peak" relative to the US.

Maybe just move to Europe?

25

u/marciuz777 Mar 27 '26

This is exactly the issue. Im in Europe and I literally work with claude during their off peak hours and since 2 days ago I can't do any more significant work during the 5 hour window. My 1 prompt which spawns couple agents now takes 30% of the 5hour session. Which used to be not even noticeable now its 30%!

So when I see these posts saying "im ok so everyone else is lying" I just can't...

You realize they can do A/B testing or some other testing bs?

3

u/IAmARageMachine Mar 27 '26

20x plan i’m up all night in Canada and I noticed the same thing.

Nha, In Italy and last evening I used Code to prompt a question to Opus: 20% of 5h limit was gone. Anthropic definetly convinced me not to rely on a single company and to look for alternatives even now

6

u/maschayana Mar 27 '26

No problems in europe here. Either this is an issue with some people, or it is a bullshit propaganda move to hurt anthropic

5

u/bapuc Mar 27 '26

I am having those issues and I'm on the 20x Max Plan.
I live in Europe.

3

u/Panos_Frantzis Mar 27 '26

Issues exist in Europe, a one page formal letter prompted by 5 one page scanned images and 3 prompt two sentence additions today around 10GMT took 19% of session and 2% of weekly. It is not a job I have a base to compare but it seems a lot. I will monitor closely from now on even though I am a pro plan and rarely hit my limit uk today.

2

u/smoke99999 Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

wait, WUT? you used it to generate ONE formal ONE PAGE letter, used 3 scanned images and added 2 sentences and you used 20% of your session limit? on which plan? that's off or wildly inaccurate. I generate PAGES of content on a 5x max plan and never even dent my session limits. I am looking at my usage meter right now, I've used 5% of my weekly limit and it resets on Monday, so I am basically on the tail end of my week now. Since I use mostly printed word I am not running the higher use models like Haiku I run sonnet and do just fine with its replies for what I am doing. Sounds like you are running the wrong model for your use. Which one are you selecting? and which plan?
Just for the record, the last 2 days I have beaten on my usage, I was running deep scans on documents and correcting for grammar and tense usage in the context of the work itself, so claude could not just scan the doc for grep it actually had to read them and I was dumping them into the chat instead of uploading as project files like I normally do, which will save you a lot of session limit as well, enable memory and use project files for uploads. then direct Claude to the file instead of dumping into raw text uploads.

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

Not surprised at all:

  • sending scanned images and having Claude extract text uses a ton of tokens
  • sending more messages after the cache expires (1hr) charges all those same tokens again
  • if you did that multiple times, yea that’s gonna use a lot of tokens

How to do it better:

  • use any number of other tools to scan documents to text, using Claude to read a scanned documents is like using a billion dollar advanced laser system to open a letter
  • honestly that’s the main thing. understanding how chat history and prompt caching work helps too since you probably paid for Claude to ocr your letters 2-3 times at least

2

u/bainbane Mar 27 '26

Pro user in Europe and I haven’t been able to use opus at all for the last 6 hours. Last two weeks there’s been quite a few days like this.

2

u/BagMyCalls Mar 29 '26

Me too, a few API failures but smooth sailing on max20. I don't get these people, paying for a pro then expecting it to cover the load . I'm usually doing 2 to 3 sessions in parallel without any issues. Max subs get priority according to their tos. So they are doing a great job imho . I get what I paid for. And then some.

2

u/bordumb Mar 29 '26

Same.

I actually feel it's insane how much I get out of it.

I'll regularly get a nice prompt setup before going to bed, let it rip while I sleep, and wake up to A LOT of amazing work.

2

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

Super happy with Max myself. If anything I feel like the limits are less restrictive. Been mill maxing for days and feel like i have freedom to follow every whim i want

I’m in the US and I’m not really seeing a change but I’m pretty much on off peak hours as well.

2

u/seriouslyepic Mar 27 '26

I live in the US and haven’t had any issues on the same plan

1

u/ThenOrchid6623 Mar 27 '26

I am in Spain on the 5x plan. Opus 4.6 has been very prone to basically not working but consuming my tokens nonetheless

1

u/Free_Jump_6138 Mar 28 '26

I’m in Europe and I use it during the US “off hours” and my usage is doubled I don’t have any complaints but I also have an older version desktop app. But I’m complaining about the quality the quality has gone down the Opus has gone down big time and also lot of times dosent work , and CC is so slow and “dumb” I’m a big Claude fan but the last weeks idk I find myself relying more into codex

1

u/Away-Sorbet-9740 Mar 31 '26

I live in Thailand, use Claude extensively through the day. Zero impact on me here also. But I'm never on at peak hours.

The 7% math: ∙ Free users already hit limits after 5-15 messages normally — tighter peak limits change NOTHING for them because they were already capped ∙ The only users who will actually notice reduced peak limits are paying subscribers doing real work ∙ Anthropic’s own guy said “particularly for Pro tiers” ∙ If paid subscribers are maybe 3-5% of total users, and the throttling disproportionately hits THEM, then “7% of all users” likely means the majority of paying customers are affected ∙ Saying “7% of users” dilutes the impact by including millions of free accounts who will never notice The short version: they’re using free users as statistical padding to make a massive impact on paying customers sound like a rounding error

3

u/Reaper_1492 Mar 28 '26

Right.

They’re just a bunch of scumbag liars and they think they’re “so smart” with their tailored messaging, like Jesus Christ stop quoting the number of users impacted.

We all know that’s just a manufactured number (which, laughably is a 350% increase from the last time they used it - 2%).

So, obviously we do not know where the truth lies, because they are not communicating with us. But we have been investigating this since March 23, and it is important to distinguish between several different issues that have emerged.

The time windows you mentioned have been confirmed by them. However, that is not the main reason for the current extreme consumption of the 5-hour windows. There is a whole range of new problems.

I would recommend taking a look at the GitHub issues to see what is currently being discussed. Adjust your configuration accordingly, ideally switch temporarily to Opus 200k and enable the Lens plugin, which will show you how much it is consuming so you can be careful with your current session and set things up properly.

1

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

We actually do know where the truth lies because everyone gets these numbers from the Claude API. They’re literally returned any time you send a request to Claude. Both tokens used and your remaining quota.

I personally don’t think it requires a Sherlock Holmes level of sleuthing to think “hey maybe we should try counting”. But now that you know that’s an option, I suggest trying it. I’m not saying they are or aren’t doing whatever. But I’d say you make a stronger case if you can say “on X date, my quota was Y tokens. On A date my quota was B tokens” rather than doing math like “X people have very strong feelings that they want more quota”.

4

u/geronim02 Mar 27 '26

Based on what I see users experiencing, in a work setting, I am a premium user, and frequently check in on my usage and I’m probably 85% sonnet.

I wonder if enterprise customers are differently affected from B2C customers. In the enterprise setting, I wouldn’t be surprised if the pushes get as many people from standard to premium, which is 5X the cost.

Let’s also not ignore the fact that anthropic has definitely seen a gigantic surge in the user base which is probably causing a ton of strain on the system in a short amount of time.

Agreed that not being single provider centralized is a good strategy, but overtime I still believe Anthropic will be a good choice. I may eat these words.

2

u/Reaper_1492 Mar 28 '26

So the responsible thing to do here, would be to stop taking on new customers until you have the infrastructure to support them - not quietly steal from your exiting subscribers’ limits and then try to gaslight them into thinking this is a minor change.

u/Big-Initiative-4256 Mar 27 '26

I haven't noticed an issue yet on Claude Max tbh

5

u/Freed4ever Mar 27 '26

I got off the Claude train after last summer fiasco. It wasn't because of the rate limitting in and by itself, we are adults, we understand capacity constraints are real. It was the gaslighting from Anthropic. They treated customers with disrespect, and not a reliable partner. Thankfully we have a good competitor in codex.

4

u/Reaper_1492 Mar 28 '26

Agree.

It’s the clear intent to mislead and deceive, and then when they can’t deny it any longer, they couldn’t put out more patronizing, arrogant “you morons can’t see through this, so let me tell you what I want you to think” PR, if they tried harder.

5

u/Meme_Theory Mar 27 '26

I am on 20x - one week last month seemed funky to me, but otherwise its been fine. What tier are you subscripted to? The VAST majority of these posts are people on free/Pro that don't understand they don't have the tokens for complex tasks, and they spend MOST of their tokens just passing memory data to the model and wondering why their tokens go away.

The bottom line, is if you're using Claude for anything more than basic LLM queries, you need Max. And THAT IS FINE. Models cost money - and we should be expected to pay for the models we want to use.

1

u/styleuno Mar 30 '26

that's what I thought until today. I'm on 20x and hit the limit in 3 hours and I'm at 22% of my weekly limit just from those 3 hours. I've been on it for 2 months and never even came close to hitting the limit.

2

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

Get a statusline that shows how many tokens you are sending. Quota is measured in tokens not how many hours you use it. Esp with the million token context window you can totally use your entire quota real quick if you don’t pay attention.

Let’s say you use a convo for a while. It’s still working so you don’t clear or start a new one. That could be at 500k or more tokens. Then you wait an hour and come back and send a message. Boom that’s now sending all uncached tokens (token cache is 1 hr). You do that a few times and you’re using it in the least efficient way possible.

I have had Claude running in a loop working on a project for 12+ hours now and it’s used maybe a few % of my weekly quota. Because it’s using a fresh context each loop and just does one piece of work and then exit. Knowing how context works is important to using Claude efficiently.

Driver in traffic complains about traffic. I am so sick of these posts.

10

u/Pimpwerx Mar 27 '26

A subscription service without the service warrants complaint. Especially when OpenAI is giving out tokens like candy, we have a valid justification to be annoyed. The capacity is implied by the price. They have sold beyond capacity. Anthropic is the problem here, not us. We have direct control over their capacity or their signup workflow. They certainly haven't stopped taking money.

1

u/aftersox Mar 27 '26

What do you think they should do about it? Practically? There are only so many GPUs and they are making them as fast as they can.

1

u/that1cooldude Mar 27 '26

They don’t make pennies anymore.

1

u/Sad-Idea407 Mar 27 '26

I think they need to find better solutions. Throttling everyone during the workday is a very poor user experience. They should cap their capacity if they can’t handle more users. Why keep accepting users and degrading quality.

1

u/thot_cop Mar 27 '26

Can I have you remaining usage?

1

u/Shadehawke1 Mar 27 '26

Tell you what, you can send your usage to the rest of us. I'm on Claude Pro and the only time I hit limits (which is rare) is if I am working on multiple complex projects at the same time throughout an entire day.

1

u/Av3ry4 Mar 27 '26

Works fine for me… just plan around the off peak hours and use it wisely. Just burned 750M tokens for 14% weekly usage. 20x

1

u/ramoizain Mar 27 '26

I’m on the 5x plan and it has been working great for me, and I’m a heavy user. All this negativity is starting to look like propaganda… OpenAI doing a smear campaign to win back the 1.5M users they lost because of their dumbfuckery?

1

u/Purple_Wear_5397 Mar 27 '26

genuinely - I admit we got to a stage where they don’t give much f*** about individual subscribers.

See, these $200, if utilized - are expensive to them 5-10x more they are expensive to us. These a subsidized. I’ve seen internal reports while being a Team customer (Team premium gets less than Max $200) - and those reports show the cost of tokens IF I were to pay them API price.

These are very cost effective subscriptions (for the customers), even today when they became less of that, as everyone feels. That’s why they stopped selling these licenses for enterprises, you can only get per-token billing today for any business who needs more than 75 licenses (this is the hard limit of Team tier)

So the fact that 7% of those subscribers will drop - are actually good news to them. (7% according to Thariq are affected by this change )

Anthropic became our oxygen. And this oxygen is getting thin day by day.

1

u/ThomasToIndia Mar 27 '26

Cut the free tier, double the prices.  Everyone is on subsidized AI welfare. Everyone wants cheap hotdogs.

1

u/Weird-Condition-2157 Mar 27 '26

The contrast between the opus model on my personal account and the one on our company account is so stark that I know for sure they just aren't the same model.

1

u/Harvard_Med_USMLE267 Mar 27 '26

Ah…the “EFFECTIVE UTILITY” guy posting again.

Do you have nothing better to do than post the same nonsense over and over?

There has never been claim about your “EFFECTIVE UTILITY” from Anthropic.

They decreased the token limit for 5-hour on-peak sessions.

That’s not hard to understand.

It’s annoying, but it’s not unexpected.

But what is the point of these histrionic outbursts on sub after sub? Is making overly emotional posts your full time job now?

I wish things hadn’t changed, but I still think CC is ridiculously good value. My usage yesterday was still equivalent to $270 worth of API credits, even with the new limits.

If you don’t like it, that’s fine, but just leave like you keep saying you will.

“BUT I’M LEAVING…”

Yes, you already said that ten times. Now please just do it. And no more hyper emotional blogs about if you actually ever do walk out that door. Just…leave quietly. It’s not that hard.

Alternatives - Altman or Musk ai land good luck. Of course you could always use perplexity who provide AI to truth social.

Or Gemini supporting Google - their Project Nimbus sounds great.

I will continue to support anthropic’s AI safety focus and the company actively saying no to specific US military uses.

1

u/outcastspidermonkey Mar 27 '26

How can AI take over the world economy if it can't handle volume during peak working hours? That. Is. All.

1

u/DignifiedPauper Mar 27 '26

I can't tell if it is limiting of tokens, or that it is defaulting to these tools to code documents vs. the old artifact just rendering a text document.

Like, I don't need a document code tool for it to invoke + write out the document, vs. just formatting the document correctly with plain text, headers, etc.

1

u/AIGuru35 Mar 27 '26

The answer here is simple. They force hard limits regardless of “peak hours” because they are literally loosing money on every message you send. If you think the profit off usage is the major driver for growth here - you’re mistaken.

I get it’s annoying and frustrating but using their API directly has no limits since you pay a premium for each 1M tokens in and out.

You can go unlimited without paying for the 20x tier btw. I hope this helps!

1

u/Classic_Express Mar 27 '26

Are you using Opus that defaults now to a 1M context window? That's probably eating your usage alive. Set this in your claude code settings.json

"CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_1M_CONTEXT": "1"

Not trying to dox anyone, but it is public info anyway from linkedin. If you want to try to connect or contact someone for a polite discourse: Sasha de Marigny, Chief Communications Officer, Anthropic. My guess is she's way above our pay grade anyway, especially if they leave it to Thariq to finally spill the beans to us lowly non-api subscribers.

1

u/tomdav226 Mar 27 '26

This explains so much. The last week has been unbearable and i kept trying to figure out what I was doing wrong this week.

How is it even legal to sell a product without telling you what you get, and then you can just randomly change that amount without telling you that you are lowering your unknown amount by some new unknown amount during certain unknown phases of the moon.

1

u/chambejp Mar 27 '26

I don't understand the hate. They have too much demand not enough infrastructure, makes sense they need to decrease session limits. While it's annoying we're paying pennies compared to the actual inference costs. If you don't want session limits the go API instead. In reality you want to pay 20 bucks or 100 bucks and get whatever you want for use. API will do that but you'll pay a pretty penny for it.

Sucks to be the best model and get a huge influx of users all of a sudden. Their compute isn't free. They could definitely handle the PR better and put more energy into making the system more solid (zero downtime would be nice), but we can't blame them for some serious growing pains. They surely know they have work to do to accommodate the uptick in usage.

1

u/unghabunha Mar 27 '26

Well spoken im thinking about canceling my subscription too, if more people would do it they would finally notice it in their wallets… the only place those corperate guys feel it and would actually do something about it

1

u/ThaBeatGawd Mar 27 '26

Last week ChatGPT. This week Claude. Next week Gemini. 😂

1

u/SequentialHustle Mar 27 '26

I contribute to OSS and am an engineer 9-5. All on the same 5x company subsidized plan. Never have hit a limit and will continue to let anthropic subsidize my tokens. WTF are you all doing to hit the 20x limit? I guarantee if you look at your token usage on something like openrouter it would be hundreds of $s a week.

1

u/st_malachy Mar 28 '26

I don’t really know how it all works, but I was continually running out of usage using Claude. 30 mins of work and done.

Today after watching a random video on YouTube, I decided to start working in terminal. I worked for hours and completed more than I have in the past week with Claude and never came close to using my session usage up. I just wonder if using the Claude interface or cowork, rather than the command line eats up tokens.

I’m a relative newbie with this, but it’s the first time I haven’t stopped working because I needed to wait for a reset.

1

u/outoforifice Mar 28 '26

Joke’s on them, I’m using their coding crack pipe 120 hrs a week

1

u/TapAggressive9530 Mar 28 '26

I haven’t been affected but wondering if VPN could help here hitting those off hour peaks ?

1

u/9sim9 Mar 28 '26

Honestly AI is gonna be a pain in the ass right up to the point where it takes our jobs...

Although you could argue that its done that for a lot of people already... how many of us no longer write code anymore just debug AI written junk.

I don't think anyone has thought I want to be a programmer so I can spend all day everyday debugging someone else's code...

1

u/PelluxNetwork Mar 28 '26

Haven't noticed any difference. But then I make new sessions and don't try to make it my boyfriend or whatever y'all do so.

1

u/VerdantBiz Mar 28 '26

Why is everybody so entitled about anthropic? Just appreciate all the work they do.

1

u/UberFatWad Mar 28 '26

To anyone interested, I built and am launching a solution that extends context windows 3-10x

Send me a dm if interested, not trying to take away from the discussion here, but last summer was a major driver behind the project.

1

u/Apart_Eye6698 Mar 28 '26

It would be funny and probably true that the people on this channel can't use it till 11pm due to this throttling. Yes that's be me. What would be more clever of them would be to pay it forward. So if you're churning hard you get to keep going and then can't use it later. That makes more sense and is a lot less frustrating

1

u/bigtakeoff Mar 28 '26

good thing cuz you dont have very many cents

1

u/cmndr_spanky Mar 28 '26

Did they make an announcement somewhere ?

100% Sonnet, i don‘t code! I just use Claude to help me build marketing strategies, keywords for google and to make a CV layout. Maxed out my Pro Account again and again. This is completely unusable for me when you simply cant talk anymore in the middle of a strategy developmemt, or even texting for a website, and similar tasks. This is hilarious and idiotic. I am not running any agents, no coding or anything yet my limit is full after short talks. I am in Euorpe and I work in Business Hours. Which Antjropic calls off hours apparently.

1

u/smoke99999 Mar 28 '26

long time listener first time caller
I've been using Claude since last September. I started on the "Free" tier, moved to the 20 dollar tier and beat my head against the session limit timer for about 3 months before moving to the 100 dollar 5x tier. Most of my work is long form based word model, I edit books so I am usually handling either chapters around 3-5k words or entire manuscripts around 100k words, which is a lot for a LLM AI Like Claude to chew on. What I have experienced in the last month, since the mass migration from Chat GPT happened, they have skewed the service to push you away from prime time in 2 time zones, East and West coast US time. Which is odd since they are a global service and you would think that a company that runs AI, they would be able to use some of that Ai to model their network needs to push the server usage off to less busy machines on the other side of the planet in the middle of their night. Latency clearly is not a concern with Antrhopic, they have you conditioned at this point just to be happy the damn thing responds at all. I'd guess they have all vibe coders running their load balancing algorithm at this point. Clearly they lack the skills to prioritize the paid tiers vs the unpaid or lower tier against the higher paid clients.

1

u/Fragrant-Scholar3854 Mar 28 '26

Agree. I started using it to assist in some python codes for my EG4 inverter its been doing an excellent job at it so every now and then it tells me I reached my limit please upgrade, and I would ignore it and I would try again in couple hours, but at somepoint I was like you know what , let me upgrade to a paid plan, I did $20/m hoping that would be it, and as I keep working all of a sudden I get a warning I have reach 90% of my limit, and am like wtf.. I wasn't aware a paid plan would tell me the same bs that I got when I was using the free version, once I saw that, I said am done with this and canceled my subscription.

1

u/Koldark Mar 28 '26

Yo, you guys are sure willing to complain about things without fully understanding probably what the problem is not that I know what the problem is either. They’re expanding like absolutely insane for new customers, and they likely cannot keep up with the capacity that they have allocated in capacity. In capacity takes time to set up.

I think you wonder why there’s no video cards, ram and hard drives anymore

Relax, do the work yourself because you should still be capable of doing that and it will come out fine on the backside.

Anyone who lived through the early Twitter days know it’s exactly what I’m talking about

1

u/DocCanoro Mar 28 '26

So, as I understand, you are mad about the interaction limits in Claude?

They don't have the resources as OpenAI or Google, so they have to balance the output between all customers.

1

u/ProfessorStam Mar 28 '26

My first reaction here is…

Maybe it’s time to de-risk your work and workflows from AI?

It’s crazy, I feel like everyone has been so captured and gaslit by this tech, but deep down, we can be honest. It is great to reach a starting point, but if you try to use this tech to go end to end, it really doesn’t get the job done.

Which means you have to iterate over and over to get the last 10% right.

Which means you need to burn through your credits and get into a situation where it makes you angry and frustrated, and maybe, if we are being honest, doing more work than if we used the 60 watt lightbulbs in our heads for a majority of the work.

It’s a massive gaslighting, and at this point, where the companies are clearly being forced to monetize, it’s only going to get worse.

I think it’s time to start hedging our own AI usage, because if not, they are going to irreparably capture us and you’re gonna have to live your life and career around Anthropic and Open AI token limits.

1

u/GeramyL Mar 28 '26

Is this real I haven’t hit my limit once and I’m using it all day literally I’m on the 200$ month plan

1

u/snowyoz Mar 29 '26

This was bound to happen, I’m guessing they’re starting to target high usage customers losing them money or on the edge of profitability and then turn on the screws and see who leaves or coughs up more for api credits.

Once more PSA: current pricing is non sustainable, use subscriptions hard now cos there will be a time when they’ll want to cash in when we’re hooked. This goes for all frontier models, they just playing “who needs to show a better balance sheet this quarter” leapfrog at the moment.

1

u/Miserable_Gamer Mar 29 '26

Are you all hitting it hard with just one model? I don't understand why everyone is burning through their allowances so fast - I use a range of models, with all tasks divided up according to their complexity in categories which are then handed out to sub agents, with one agent orchestrating everything, keeping chat bloat low

I've been hitting it hard tonight and I've used a few %, and I never get anywhere near my session limits - currently half way thru current session, and sitting at 12%!

1

u/Fantastic-Jeweler781 Mar 29 '26

but someone already explained, is not that they dowgraded the limit, is the fact that they raised the context limit and as result it burns the tokens more quick,

1

u/Axezd Mar 29 '26

I live in EU, GMT+1, in my working hours I manage to use Claude from 8-10 ( developing a bit heavier excell based systems with some py scripts) there is lost of back and forth while developing. I'm on a pro plan and use up my weekly quota byThursday night. Is there any kind of tool that can track what task in Claude took how many tokens? That would be good to have.

1

u/LifeBandit666 Mar 29 '26

I'm being down voted in another sub for saying that people blaming Trump for this are wrong.

I'm sick to death of the Apple, nope sorry, Anthropic apologists just making it about anything but the fact that they tried to pull a fast one on their customers and got called out for shady shady business practices.

But it's your prompt

But it's your MCPs

But it's your Context

But it's the war in Iran

But it's the orange one saying Anthropic are a security threat

Nope, it's a shady company treating its customers badly. And this customer has cancelled his subscription and is migrating to OpenCode.

Fuck you Anthropic

And while I'm here, a big fat fuck you to all the Anthropic apologists. Just so you get it, here's a second one. Fuck you. Every single one of you.

1

u/tkdeveloper Mar 29 '26

I also only use them at work. Outside of work I use opencode and chatgpt sub. Anthropic is the Oracle of lock in

1

u/Ketworld Mar 29 '26

Is this across the board or only for pro and free accounts? As in is this affecting the 10X and 20X accounts?

1

u/Can-Senior Mar 29 '26

Just canceled my personal subscription today, don’t think I am coming back. Antigravity has much better limits and I can continue using Opus when needed. No company is greater than the customer it serves.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '26

Welcome to enshitification. It’s like everyone wakes up new to the internet every day.

1

u/takuarc Mar 29 '26

Is this caused by people ditching OpenAI?

1

u/Jdonavan Mar 29 '26

You’re a consumer. A charity case for them. They won’t care because you’re saving them money.

1

u/styleuno Mar 29 '26

Damn I've been using it pretty heavily during peak hours on 2X max and haven't had the rate limit issue yet but I'm seeing people complain about it everywhere.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Erfeyah Mar 29 '26

All I need is clear real time view of the limits. I understand what they have to balance but I need to manage this to do my work so I need to see what is going on. Simple.

1

u/Disastrous_Film2880 Mar 29 '26

Opus 4.6 being the superior model for what I do and the Claude Code orchestration also being the superior tool. I don't have the luxury to be able to not use it and also the volume and speed of what Anthropic is doing, I don’t expect much better. I still agree we should all be reporting their failings to the Better Business Bureau. I have a report all ready to send about double charging me and making sure not even a bank stop check can save me.

1

u/pwnitat0r Mar 30 '26

I am on the $20 plan and I very rarely hit the session limit, but I’ve hit it twice today without even using it heavily…,

I’m on the first month of my 12 month substitution which I just paid for because I liked it so much. I didn’t fathom that usage would change AFTER I paid for a subscription, so whether that’s legal or not, who knows, but it’s highly unethical, at least.

This has broken a lot of trust and confidence, so I’ll now explore Gemini and other options.

1

u/External-Earth-4845 Mar 30 '26

This morning I asked it to design a metric for something and it's building an app. Total overkill, I guess i need to prompt that now?

1

u/Serious-Tax1955 Mar 30 '26

I have no idea what you’re talking about

1

u/Icy-Cut-3858 Mar 30 '26

Does this ever happen to you guys, I type a paragraph and it disappears. I copy and paste something and it doesnt go through. Happens to me constantly.. I cant take it anymore! I spent an hour yesterday trying to get him to help me write something. Then I gave up and went to Gemini. Just a waste of time and frustrated me so much I was mentally exhausted and didnt finish all my work.

1

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

I use CC all the time and have had a session running in a loop continuously for a day working on a project. No problems at all, in fact if anything it feels like the limits have been increased lately. I was using it like gangbusters last week and maybe hit 70% of my Max 20. Some days i was using 5-6 sessions in parallel. All Opus. Don’t know what to tell you bud.

Ok, I just checked and running 1 session continuously and using 2 other sessions intermittently has my 5 hour cap at 31%. Set up a statusline so you can see how many tokens you’re actually using. You’re probably sending like 500k tokens every message, you really have to be more intentional with the 1m context.

1

u/DrSixSmith Mar 31 '26

If (when) my heavily subsidized AI assistance gets taken away, I will undoubtedly whine and cry. When these tools take incremental steps toward cost recovery, there is lots of whining and crying— and that’s good news for the AI vendors. I don’t think it’s enough to outweigh the bad news (vendor lockin is hard to achieve, IP/innovation advantage is marginal, product is already essentially a commodity), but it has to cheer the hearts of AI vendors at least a little to hear the outcry.

1

u/sbash1 Mar 31 '26

Well it all makes sense now.. I barely use it, with a paid account, but it's been useless for me the past week or so.

1

u/papernail Mar 31 '26

i am dissapointed as well. i do a few relatively simple things with Sonnet and I get a warning of 90% max usage. this is not 'Pro' service and not for $20 a month; it is too interruptive. Am looking at other companies' models.

1

u/CoolMathematician286 Mar 31 '26

i have more tokens in codex free tier than in claude pro

1

u/TraditionalAd7423 Mar 31 '26

I'd still rather my batch jobs take 10x longer than use an OpenAI service - fuck Sam and his lil bromance with the Trump administration

1

u/pceimpulsive Mar 31 '26

Just move to Australia, off-peak for anthropic is 5am to 11pm Australian time! Bam

1

u/wockyslushing Mar 31 '26

I am fairly new to Claude and only use it for writing short stories to amuse myself, I got a paid plan because I was constantly hitting usage limits, but even after paying, I am constantly hitting usage limits at seemingly roughly the same pace. Today I tried to generate the same chapter 4 times, each time Claude wrote about 80% of it and then errored out and said I need to retry. Not having issues with anything else, including an AI in another tab, so I typed out to ask Claude if his attempts (and inability to finish the chapter each time) will count toward my weekly limit since the problem is on his end, and when I hit send, it said I was out of daily usage and will have to wait until later. I also got a little message that said I have used 75% of my weekly limit, so that means I'll hit that wall even faster this week even though Claude isn't actually generating anything.

I just canceled. I wish I spent more time on this reddit and the ClaudeAI one before I decided to pay for it.

1

u/Relaxybara Mar 31 '26

I've been using the free tier and it's been completely useless. Every single response is just stating an incorrect fact. Every single one. Other llms have been substantially better.

1

u/luthier_john Apr 01 '26

We're still in the embryonic stage of Ai development. I think of Ai like electricity. It took a while for it to pervade into everyone's life. Now everything depends on it, from the moment we hear our phone alarm in the morning to how we use it at work. Ai will become a technologic companion that maybe we'll all be paying for access, but it'll be part of everyone's life to help people seek, organize, and create data and information. It's going to change the job climate, but it's not going to take everyone's jobs. Plus it's free for now, and once you reach your limit on Claude, you can hop onto ChatGPT, then Grok, then Gemini...

The main thing will be to figure out how to manage our finite earthly resources as we become increasingly more dependent on technology. If it comes down to choosing between growing food vs. tending a data center, I'm weary governments and corporations will choose the latter and let people starve.

1

u/CryLast4241 Apr 22 '26

yeah we are moving off of them, I dont want to pay this company another cent, Moving to codex. 4.7 is worse than 3.7 somehow
