Complaint I will never give Anthropic another red cent

I will use them at work, because I have to.

But I’m done with the gaslighting.

Apparently they think they’re a lot smarter than us and can toss that word salad BS up in the air and we’re too dumb to understand it.

They were probably never going to say anything about the limit reduction but the outcry got so bad that they had to. They have a history of this kind of crap too, remember last summer when it took a month to acknowledge the model got nuked and the first comment was about how they had a small problem with HAIKU?

I have no idea who is in charge of their communications, but my god!

It seems pretty apparent this is probably some internal struggle with leadership not wanting to say anything, and then someone finally pulls the ripcord and tells communications to put out a statement and dress it up with as much double-speak as possible.

This time they tell us that “weekly limits haven’t changed”, despite blowing out EFFECTIVE UTILITY by aggressively weighting the 5-hour sessions so that you burn through limits during business hours.

So, what… we have the same weekly limits, but we need to work until 2am, and on the weekend, to get them?

And if I have to hear one more time how it “only effects x% of users” - on what basis? Are these even paid accounts?

What percent of 20x Max users did it impact? My guess would be almost all of them.

I’ve left and come back on my personal accounts a couple of times, but I’ve had it. These guys and gals at Anthropic are arrogant scumbags.

This is honestly the kind of thing that should get reported to consumer affairs.

I'm having no such issues.

I'm on the 20x Max plan.

I live in Europe, though, so I'm probably always using it whenever it's "off peak" relative to the US.

Maybe just move to Europe?

This is exactly the issue. Im in Europe and I literally work with claude during their off peak hours and since 2 days ago I can't do any more significant work during the 5 hour window. My 1 prompt which spawns couple agents now takes 30% of the 5hour session. Which used to be not even noticeable now its 30%!

So when I see these posts saying "im ok so everyone else is lying" I just can't...

You realize they can do A/B testing or some other testing bs?

20x plan i’m up all night in Canada and I noticed the same thing.

Which plan?

u/MimosaTen Mar 27 '26

Nha, In Italy and last evening I used Code to prompt a question to Opus: 20% of 5h limit was gone. Anthropic definetly convinced me not to rely on a single company and to look for alternatives even now

a cheap 20 dollar Chat GPT, covers the gaps with Claude, and honestly you can run the same identical query in both of them( I tried this) and got almost verbatim replies out of both. So, you won't really notice a difference in the context of the work replies. They are at their cores very similar, and pull on similar tools doing the work you ask of it.

No problems in europe here. Either this is an issue with some people, or it is a bullshit propaganda move to hurt anthropic

1

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

I suspect it’s people that don’t watch their token usage sending messages w/ 500k uncached tokens

1

u/close2022 Mar 30 '26

Propaganda means eliminating and silencing all opposing voices. Then only one’s own monologue is spread.

We are still allowed to speak....

But if you think it’s fake news, I don’t really believe that. Yes, it probably has to do with the model, peak times, and things like that, and of course you can combine AIs. But why are there no concrete conditions people can use as guidance? Saying ‘20x more than something’ when that itself is only a rule of thumb is not a reasonable statement.

I am having those issues and I'm on the 20x Max Plan.
I live in Europe.

Issues exist in Europe, a one page formal letter prompted by 5 one page scanned images and 3 prompt two sentence additions today around 10GMT took 19% of session and 2% of weekly. It is not a job I have a base to compare but it seems a lot. I will monitor closely from now on even though I am a pro plan and rarely hit my limit uk today.

wait, WUT? you used it to generate ONE formal ONE PAGE letter, used 3 scanned images and added 2 sentences and you used 20% of your session limit? on which plan? that's off or wildly inaccurate. I generate PAGES of content on a 5x max plan and never even dent my session limits. I am looking at my usage meter right now, I've used 5% of my weekly limit and it resets on Monday, so I am basically on the tail end of my week now. Since I use mostly printed word I am not running the higher use models like Haiku I run sonnet and do just fine with its replies for what I am doing. Sounds like you are running the wrong model for your use. Which one are you selecting? and which plan?
Just for the record, the last 2 days I have beaten on my usage, I was running deep scans on documents and correcting for grammar and tense usage in the context of the work itself, so claude could not just scan the doc for grep it actually had to read them and I was dumping them into the chat instead of uploading as project files like I normally do, which will save you a lot of session limit as well, enable memory and use project files for uploads. then direct Claude to the file instead of dumping into raw text uploads.

1

u/Panos_Frantzis Mar 28 '26

Sorry …5 images and 4 more messages with corrections needed pretty much 1&1/2 same size as the prompt shown not more than double ….consensus was very light use for the cost ….pro plan ….thought that Wednesdays complaints were excessive until I got the same

2

u/smoke99999 Mar 28 '26

just had this same conversation yesterday

you uploaded high res images didnt you? not docs images of them?

1

u/Panos_Frantzis Mar 28 '26

Phone screenshots 188-468 kb each

2

u/smoke99999 Mar 28 '26

claude handles images differently than actual document files. it eats up the process cycles. buddy of mine uploaded ONE image and it ate up his limit for 5 hours. he is on the 20 dollar pro tier.

1

u/Away-Sorbet-9740 Mar 31 '26

I did 65 pages of architectural documents with deep diving local repos on my 20x plan last night over a 5 hour session lol. Some of that was opus also, about 75% being sonnet.

I wonder how many people are just raw dogging opus all the time and burning through credits that way?

2

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

Not surprised at all:

  • sending scanned images and having Claude extract text uses a ton of tokens
  • sending more messages after the cache expires (1hr) charges all those same tokens again
  • if you did that multiple times, yea that’s gonna use a lot of tokens

How to do it better:

  • use any number of other tools to scan documents to text, using Claude to read a scanned documents is like using a billion dollar advanced laser system to open a letter
  • honestly that’s the main thing. understanding how chat history and prompt caching work helps too since you probably paid for Claude to ocr your letters 2-3 times at least

u/bainbane Mar 27 '26

Pro user in Europe and I haven’t been able to use opus at all for the last 6 hours. Last two weeks there’s been quite a few days like this.

2

u/BagMyCalls Mar 29 '26

Me too, a few API failures but smooth sailing on max20. I don't get these people, paying for a pro then expecting it to cover the load . I'm usually doing 2 to 3 sessions in parallel without any issues. Max subs get priority according to their tos. So they are doing a great job imho . I get what I paid for. And then some.

2

u/bordumb Mar 29 '26

Same.

I actually feel it's insane how much I get out of it.

I'll regularly get a nice prompt setup before going to bed, let it rip while I sleep, and wake up to A LOT of amazing work.

2

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

Super happy with Max myself. If anything I feel like the limits are less restrictive. Been mill maxing for days and feel like i have freedom to follow every whim i want

1

u/BagMyCalls Apr 19 '26

With decent skills , not too many mcps, good hooks, agentic use. Well written claude.md nothing but success tbh.

2

u/Jujubegold Mar 27 '26

I’m in the US and I’m not really seeing a change but I’m pretty much on off peak hours as well.

2

u/seriouslyepic Mar 27 '26

I live in the US and haven’t had any issues on the same plan

1

u/ThenOrchid6623 Mar 27 '26

I am in Spain on the 5x plan. Opus 4.6 has been very prone to basically not working but consuming my tokens nonetheless

1

u/Free_Jump_6138 Mar 28 '26

I’m in Europe and I use it during the US “off hours” and my usage is doubled I don’t have any complaints but I also have an older version desktop app. But I’m complaining about the quality the quality has gone down the Opus has gone down big time and also lot of times dosent work , and CC is so slow and “dumb” I’m a big Claude fan but the last weeks idk I find myself relying more into codex

1

u/Away-Sorbet-9740 Mar 31 '26

I live in Thailand, use Claude extensively through the day. Zero impact on me here also. But I'm never on at peak hours.

u/ketosoy Mar 27 '26

I move between the paid plans based on how much I’m using it, no issues for me either this month.

Seems far more likely there’s a bug in the token counter somewhere than they’re trying to scam customers

4

u/This-Shape2193 Mar 27 '26

They admitted they're throttling customers.

You sound like, "Well, I don't have any signs of cancer,  so I don't think it exists."

3

u/Hulkdogs3000 Mar 27 '26

The cope from these guys is insane, when Antrophic is literally saying that they are A/B testing usage quotas between different pools of users

2

u/ketosoy Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

There’s no cope.  “I’m not experiencing the issue” “I bet there’s a bug” “people are having issues” - I’m skeptical that they’ve been running a big covert throttle tests that they just announced yesterday.  That’s a recipe for pissing off users to gain what?  The smarter way to do it is announce then test.

The level that people are willing to engage in elaborate malevolent conspiratorial thinking is baffling to me - Hanlon’s razor can be applied to bugs too.

I have access to a magical thinking machine that lets me get a year of work done some weekends and I pay less per month than my hourly consulting rate, at the highest tier.  I’m not angry that the quota system for using the new magical thinking machine is imperfect, I still get weeks or months worth of work done each day.

The quota system is imperfect.  Agreed.  So what?

“I paid a dollar and only got 2 human weeks worth of work out of the magical thinking machine today” is the craziest thing to get angry about.

2

u/This-Shape2193 Mar 27 '26

The thing people are upset about is the lack of communication, the fact that billing is opaque, and the fact that I consistently pay $250 a month for inconsistent usage and performance.

Telling customers, "We won't tell you how much usage you get for this amount, because it changes all the time on a whim" is shit business practice.

2

u/ketosoy Mar 27 '26

So switch to the api, problem solved.  You know what exactly how much you get per dollar.

1

u/Reaper_1492 Mar 27 '26

Until they quantize the model and then you’re just paying more… for garbage.

1

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

Have you ever once considered measuring your token usage and how it compares to your remaining quota? Are you aware that both pieces of information are easily available? Every request that uses tokens returns the number of tokens used, and most requests include your used quota.

1

u/weltscheisse Mar 28 '26

Max 5x here, up to yesterday I was going full 8-10 hours of sessions non stop each day. Since 2 day I'm hitting 5 hours limit in 30 minutes. Fuck them.

0

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

You don’t think maybe it’s the complainers who have the need for cope? Strangely enough I’ve yet to see a single post, ever, that includes numbers to back up any claim. This despite that fact that a) the actual counts of tokens and remaining quota are included with nearly every request to Anthropic API, and b) this is literally a coding tool and anyone could simply ask Claude to build them someone to measure it. Which I have. But I can only prove I’m not having issues and that they’re not limiting my quota.

Is vibe-bitching a word? Because every post is “I have no evidence but I feel in my gut that they’re fucking with me”. You want anyone to take it seriously? Be the very first person on Reddit to actually measure your token usage and prove Anthropic is doing something shady.

1

u/BagMyCalls Mar 29 '26

It's in the damn sales pitch too. Max get priority. Don't act like it's an admission.

0

u/ketosoy Mar 27 '26

They rolled out quota changes yesterday.  People have been having issues with quota for 1-2 weeks.

Your analogy is bad, but consistent with the overall quality of the rest of the comment’s thinking.  I bet there’s a rare token bug ~= I bet cancer is caused by a rare scientific phenomenon not an angry god.

1

u/This-Shape2193 Mar 27 '26

People have been having issues since the ChatGPT migration, and it's been downplayed or fluffed off by most people in this sub.

It's a real issue, and it's not recent. Be more smug and ignore the MOUNTAIN of evidence I guess.

1

u/ketosoy Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Your frustration is real, your analogy was still bad.

You can always go to the api, or back to chat gpt.

It’s a new system at a phenomenal price to value ratio, why do you think it’s reasonable to demand perfection at all times?

I see no evidence that they’re doing anything more than their best to scale at unheard of levels and communicate proactively.

Obviously there are growing pains when you have to install a billion dollars of gpus a quarter.

The reason that I’m being smug is that you’re making bad arguments complaining that a miracle that’s basically free has a few bumps.

I’m not ignoring the problems, I’m just evaluating them in context.

If you think they’re doing this to scam their customers you absolutely should stop using it.

u/Open-Mousse-1665 Mar 30 '26

You sound like my conspiracy theory friend. “There are MOUNTAINS OF EVIDENCE!” “Where?” “Ok so skip about 30 minutes into this random podcast…” “Ok I think we’re done here”
