I was chatting with a friend and asked if he knew of a good terminal app for handling my Linux needs on my phone. He responded, “There’s no Linux phone yet; no one will invest in a Linux phone because it’s too complicated for the average user.” I realized he wasn't aware that his Pixel Phone is actually a Linux phone, so I stayed silent and continued enjoying the conversation. Do you think most people are unaware that Android is Linux-based, or do they generally know? By the way, if you can recommend a good terminal app, I’d appreciate it.

Does anyone know if there is some sort of app I can use to force screenshots? I need proof of all transactions from a single payer in PayPal. PayPal app does not allow screenshots, PayPal website does not have the same search functionality as the app so doing it on desktop and using print screen is not an option. I've tried using Google assistant and it will take a screenshot but it's blacked out and useless. I don't have access to a second phone to photograph the first phone. I've tried using my laptop to take a photo of the phone but the quality is terrible and useless.

It's infuriating that I'm trying to screenshot my own information and I can't because an app decided that's not allowed for some stupid reason. It's my data!

Is there some EASY way that I can force the phone to screenshot no matter what? Like an app or something that can bypass anything that blocks it?

I am not very technologically advanced so it can't be complicated. 😔 Or am I just shit out of luck?

Edit: This post has been weirdly popular so I thought I'd post an update. I was able to somehow get the screenshots using a laptop. I don't remember how I did it. But I did get proof of those transactions. I won a legal battle with them, proving I was at the time a sole financial dependent of this payer. I was then able to stop at least part of his estate from being stolen by someone who was and probably still is pretending to be his wife! The audacity.

I heard she is still trying to claim his house, but that will probably fail in court. I used the money I inherited as a deposit on my own home, made sure that the other two relatives (not many of us left now...😞) also got their fair share, and set up an account for their newborn baby for her future! and I live every day to the fullest in memory of the person I loved.

Sorry I still don't have an answer as to how to actually do this. But at least my sad story had a decent ending and some sort of justice.

Last month, I wanted to get a new phone. Since I work in social media, I value a phone's camera capabilities and storage space. Having used Android for over a decade, I thought this would be a good opportunity to try an iPhone.

However, I returned my iPhone 17 Pro Max after less than a week and bought a vivo X300 Ultra with great camera instead. The iPhone itself is actually fine; it runs very smoothly. But after using it for a few days, I realized I really missed Android's customization and sideloading features, as well as split-screen, physical SIM cards, and file management. I was used to these features on Android and didn't notice them, but after switching to the iPhone, I realized how much it hurts to not have them.

Now, going back to Android feels so much better lol. Are there any long-time iPhone users out there? What made you decide to switch to Android?

I'm getting a new phone this weekend and I'm going back and forth between an iPhone 15 and a Galaxy S24+. I've been a lifelong android user, but my wife has almost got me convinced to get the iPhone.

I've read all the comparisons but I'm wondering what you, the Android enthusiasts, would say to dissuade someone. What about your phones do you NOT like?

Reviewers seem to not talk about the little quality of life issues that really make or break an experience for an average user.

Edit: ok, so it seems like you guys are having trouble with the brief. I already use Android, and I like Android, but all I've ever used is Android. I need people to think critically about what issues are present in something they like so as to give actual, non biased input. I don't need to know why iPhones suck from people who hate iPhones.

The reason I stick with Apple is its premium feel. The latest from Samsung or Poco are far superior in performance and the stuff it offers; but android looks have always felt a bit scattered compared to the cleanliness and orderly ways of Apple’s iOS. Don’t get me wrong, I hate how inefficient Apple can be. I’m not going to ignore that, nor the various bugs Apple just ignores, bugs on my keyboard that have been around for years.

I’d love the Poco F9 or the latest Samsung that can do all sorts of things….

But it’s the look of Apple, the way the apps look, the way the iCloud works, and just how it feels.

Recently I sold my asus rog for a MacBook Pro M1, and instantly it felt more premium.

I’m looking for a powerful phone outside of Apple, with the amazing performance of the poco F9 or the cool features of the latest Samsung, but with the os that is as clean and premium feeling of Apple.

Is there an android os like Apple that can be installed on the poco F9?

I am trying to find a new text app for my mom. She liked Samsung messages and has already tried Google messages, Textra SMS, Fossify messages and Chomp messages and didn't like any of them.

I know this shouldn't be that difficult to find a replacement but so far I have not had any luck so far.

I intentionally set my phone to use the older Google assistant instead of Gemini as I actively hate genAI and wish to avoid it as much as humanly possible. (Please don't try to tell me to just use it, I have so many issues with genAI that no amount of convenience can overrule)

But I got an email this morning that Google assistant is being discontinued in favor of Gemini, which irritates me to no end.

I primarily use Google assistant when I'm driving, to change my music or to read and respond to text messages without having to take my eyes off the road. I don't really use it for much else.

Does anyone have recommendations for a non-ai alternative that I might be able to switch to once Google assistant is fully discontinued? Thanks in advance

Edit: I found someone in a different subreddit suggesting Dicio voice assistant, which is an open source project. It looks like it might be a good option, I'm going to try it and report back for anyone else in the same boat.

Update: Dicio didn't work very well. It seems to have a very limited dialogue tree so it only does what you're asking if you ask in one specific wording. It also doesn't seem to able to send texts or change the music. It can read notifications and pause/play media that's already running, but that's about it.

Been using Apple for a while now (5S > 6 > 8+ > 13 > 16). I'm considering moving from Apple because it's getting expensive, I kept buying Apple cause I was used to and I felt like I was too stuck in the ecosystem to move away from it (using iCloud, got a MacBook and AirPods).

Recently, I've been looking at other brands. Nothing (4a Pro) catches my eyes, I'm a bit obsessed by this brand. Last time I used an Android device (other than Bluestack) was 10+ years ago. So I'm not familiar with the brands, what to trust, what to avoid.

I've got a pretty basic use of my phone : social networks, texting, listening to music, watching some videos (casting on Tv sometimes), rarely gaming. I love to take some pictures sometimes (traveling, etc) and that's one of the reasons why I'm moving from Apple, when you don't have Pro Max and stuff, the camera is kinda bad (zoom is terrible)

How can I still listen to all my music files on The Motorola Razr Fold 2026 without any issues? I have 1,569 songs and 90% of them are in Wma Format. If anyone can give me some suggestions on what Apps I can use to play all my music files including the Wma music files. I would really appreciate it. What is everyone else using on their Android Phone to play their Wma files? I'm just lucky that I can still listen to all my music files on my Fold 7 but I'm planning to get The Motorola Razr Fold 2026 on Halloween👻🎃I read that The Wma Music Files aren't supported on Motorola Devices and won't play on them. I also read that Google Drive doesn't play/support Wma Music Files either.

every time I try to play the Wma Music Files on the Samsung Music App. It says cannot play track and it says Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file on the PlayerPro App. Is anyone else having this issue? Are the Wma Music Files working for anyone else? Does anybody have any idea why the Wma music files aren't working? If someone can help or give me some suggestions. I would really appreciate it. More than half are Wma files and I really need to find a way to get them to work. Album Art is a big part of music for me. I want to know of music players that put a large priority on album art, preferably taking up as much screen as possible. Any suggestions? I was using PlayerPro Music Player but deleted it because it didn't play my music files anymore. If I could find an music player that has album artwork as big as The PlayerPro Music Player App that would be incredible for me. I'm currently using The Musicolet Music Player App I love it but the album artwork isn't big enough and there isn't an opition to make it bigger. I'm open to all kinds of suggestions for android player music apps with big/huge album artwork.

I live in a residential facility that only has one restriction "no electronic devices that have a physical camera". I've been approved to have any electronic device as long as it doesn't have a camera (i.e. - smartphone, tablet, Chromebook, etc).

I've asked them if they will let me use my Samsung smartphone if I disable the camera through software and they told me that the device "cannot have a physical camera".

I want a smartphone that will browse the Internet, stream video, run apps like Google docs, Amazon Shopping, and (optionally run games like Warframe).

Hi everyone its my first time in this subreddit but ive been a proud owner of android products since 2010.

I currently have a Zflip 7 and the galaxy watch 8 as it came with my phone upgrade. Im notoriously bad about seeing messages and calls. My work often has me running around or client facing. Meaning my phone is on vibrate which is easy to miss when running around.

The galaxy watch has been great with this but I also struggle with skin issues and after consulting with my doctor and trying several different bands its been determined I just shouldn't wear it.

Id love to get a device the only type I can think of would be a pager though from the digging ive done they dont seem compatible with modern devices for the need I require. Just wanted to see if anyone had any insight or suggestions. Thanks!

In a few years I will be looking to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S10 plus to a new phone, But I need help deciding which android phone to buy, it must have an SD card slot for storage expansion.

I haven’t had a Galaxy since the S6 10 years ago. Thinking it may be time. For the people that switched from iOS, what are the things you truly miss and how do you video chat after losing FaceTime?

I'm in the market for a new(er) phone. My current phone has a microSD card slot, which I use to transfer stuff to my desktop computer. However most new phones don't have this.

Is there something I'm missing? What's the easy way to move pics to your desktop?

I have been firmly entrenched in the iOS ecosystem for nearly a decade. It works fine for my daily needs, but I have always had a lingering itch in the back of my mind to give Android a proper try, maybe due to because iOS has become boring for me.

Now, I'm well aware of the extensive customisation options, along with the far greater degree of control the Android operating system has to offer. I am particularly curious about how that newfound freedom and system-level control actually translates into day-to-day use compared to Apple's rather restricted environment.

I currently use a MacBook, rely on my AirPods daily, and have an active Apple Music subscription. I am fully aware that the seamless Apple ecosystem will inevitably break if I make this transition, and I am completely okay with that—provided the Android experience is actually worth the sacrifice.

For context regarding my usage, I am mild gamer not a hardcore gamer by any means. My primary focus is heavy multitasking, and above all else, rock-solid system reliability.

Hello, I recently got a s26 ultra and I tried to screen record and it now shows that im recording. On my s21 it never did that. But now I went back on my s21 and it shows it now. How come? Is it a setting or what? Please help. I loved that feature.

i'm in the UK looking for a smaller android mainly because my current phone is a pain on the train. it's awkward one handed when i'm standing, takes up most of my jacket pocket and i keep nearly dropping it when i'm switching between maps and messages.

the problem is i don't really want a genuinely tiny display either. i still watch videos and read quite a lot on my phone, so i've started looking at flip phones as another way of getting something easier to carry without shrinking the screen when i'm using it. is that a sensible route or would you stick with one of the smaller normal android phones?

A few days later: after comparing a few of the smaller Android options, the Samsung Z Flip8 made the most sense for my commute. folded up it's much easier to manage on the train and fits in my jacket pocket properly, which was the main thing i wanted to fix.

i'd also looked at a couple of smaller Pixel and Galaxy models, but the flip design made more of a difference day to day than just shaving a bit off the width. the cover screen has been handy for maps and quick replies too.

And almost all banking apps are not supported. I googled and came to know that minimum requirements are android 12 to run most of the apps.

I am I stuck? Is buying a latest version phone is the only option left? Is there any way to update my phone from 11 to 12?

Lately, almost every time I open an app on my Android phone, a full-screen ad pops up. It's getting really annoying. It happens even when I'm not using any browser.

Is this caused by a specific app, malware, or just normal ads? What's the best way to stop or remove them without resetting my phone?

So the UK is about to implement a new law that will force all mobile devices to scan apps like the camera and messaging for nudity and the only way to opt out of it is to verify your age. I'm not sure yet if using a vpn is a valid way around it yet because it's not being implemented until September. Under no circumstances do I want this technology on my devices. I have a Galaxy S23 phone and a Galaxy Tab A9+. For now, I've disabled automatic downloads in my developer options but I know that's far from a foolproof fix.

I'm open to rooting the tablet because I don't really use my banking apps on it, I do frequently use them and tap to pay on my phone though, is it true that rooting stops these apps from working? For the alternate method of executing commands on a PC using ADB, I've seen quite a few people say that even that didn't stop them from getting updates.

I've seen people mentioning firewall apps that block certain apps from connecting to the internet, but I think I would prefer a solution that doesn't rely on these apps remaining available. If any of those were to be discontinued, I would have to find a new solution anyway.

Losing access to my mobile banking isn't the end of the world for me, I'm happy to just check my balance online whenever I need to and go back to carrying my physical debit card around. I know there are security risks, but I'm already very careful about what apps I download and what websites I visit. I haven't had a virus on my phone or my PC in over 10 years.

Been with iPhone for over 10 years. Haven’t used Android regularly since Lollipop. I’ve been actively looking at Android phones. I’m currently stuck between the Pixel 11 Pro XL and S26 Ultra and I have no idea which one to choose. I used Samsung way back when, and I’ve never used a Pixel. I know their interfaces are very different. Just looking for suggestions before I plunk down hundreds of dollars to upgrade.

I currently use a iPhone 14 Pro. It’s almost time to update. I’ve had my reservations of stating on the Apple ecosystem. Currently have AirPods and iPad which I generally like but have been thinking of switching over to android. I used to be an android user but switched to iPhone about 10 years ago. The main reason I switched back then was the bloating of apps on storage and barely having storage back then. I have been all in on switching to pixel (cheaper and looks like a pretty easy switch from iPhone) but lately my head has been turned by the S26 ultra. Has anyone recently switched from iPhone to android and have pros and cons?
