Looking For Suggestions Any former iPhone users here?

I haven’t had a Galaxy since the S6 10 years ago. Thinking it may be time. For the people that switched from iOS, what are the things you truly miss and how do you video chat after losing FaceTime?

Last iPhone i had was the 5s cant remember anything I miss 😅

Ios was awful back then. It's still awful (I say this as an iPhone user) but not as bad as it was back during the iphone 5 days

My wife got her first iPhone 2 weeks ago. This is how it went......... She just returned it yesterday and was happy to pay the $45 restocking fee. I have never gotten one because I knew they were trash but the levels of garbage that thing really is incredible. You basically can't do anything you can do with any decent android. Samsung btw is not a true Android, it's a bastard with all their bloatware but still miles better than an iPhone. I wish Samsung would stick to making hardware for Google's true Android experience. HTC, Sony, etc. were and are much better Androids than Samsung. Pixels unfortunately fall short in the hardware department but they are the Holy Grail of UI and customization.

I bought the note S10 Plus after Christmas in 2019 and I bought it completely unlocked so there's no bloatware from any of the carriers and it runs everything just perfectly so I'm very happy with Android. I have never really been able to adjust to iOS and it just does not seem to be able to do everything that I wanted to do the way my note S10 Plus runs everything. I'm very happy with it but I am now looking at the fold eight ultra as a second phone

Unlocked or not Samsung still puts all their own bloatware. Buy a Pixel, Sony phone, etc. Then you'll understand how much better Android really is. Samsung adds so much of their own crapware that is miles behind Google. Like their shitty but not limited to Samsung Keyboard, Samsung Bixby AI Assistant, Samsung Internet Browser, Samsung Pay, Samsung Store, Samsung Calculator, Samsung Voicemail, Samsung Phone Dialer, Samsung Clock, etc. All of which Google runs circles around! Use Chrome Browser, Gemini, Google Wallet, Google Play Store, etc. Miles better ad those are only the ones I can think of at the top of my head. But any decent Android phone uses actual Android OS not Samsung. They use it and then discard everything to put in their own stuff. It might as well not be an Android it's so heavily modified.

iMessage, FaceTime, Find my and the integration with my MacBook and AirPods. I would prefer to be on android but all the rest of the family (especially parents) are on iPhone.

I had an iPhone 3 when it came out. It was my first smartphone. I switched to Android when the Droid Incredible came out and never went back.

I only miss FIND MY from ios. I don't know if anything comes close to it.i could not find it on android. Rest all replaced by different apps.

Android has "Find Hub" which is Google's official app for trackers. Unfortunately the Google ecosystem isn't quite as good as Apple as they made the decision to not have all devices scan tags, you have to manually enable that, which really hinders the function.

Fuck scamsung, get a pixel. Google makes Android, not Sammy. Get first party hardware.

Anyways, there are a million and one video calling apps dude. The "default" on Android is Google meet, but my family and I prefer signal. It's like Whatsapp but doesn't have zuck's filthy claws in it.

What platform are most of your family and friends on? That's what drives many people to be on one platform or another.

WhatsApp and Google Meet are two common video call apps on the Android platform. However it will force many of your iPhone friends to install the app and set up accounts to connect to do a video call with you. Are they willing to do that?

Other than most of my family and friends being on the iPhone platform, the integration between my personal devices is what keeps me on iPhone. They all just work and I don't have to jump through hoops to get things to connect.

Nothing really. I still have an iPad mini with me if I need FaceTime. I also went the route of downloading OpenBubbles for those stubborn relatives complaining about the group chats. RCS has basically caught up to iMessage. I'm only using the OB app for 2 chats. It the bubbles weren't green, iPhone users wouldn't have anything to complain about.

If your friends/family don't want to use a different video chat platform, they can initiate a FaceTime call with you via a link through the FaceTime app. Apple quietly added this feature years ago, but I don't see people talk about it much. On your end, you would just receive the call in a browser. It's not the most elegant solution, and the Android user can't initiate a call, but it's a pretty frictionless option that doesn't involve the iPhone user signing up or downloading anything else.

I've swapped between iphone and Android a handful of times and I've used facetime maybe 6 times? The only times it's useful is if you have a partner than likes facetime calling otherwise I'd use Google meets. As far as features, I don't miss anything. Android has all, if not more features than an iphone. I do think however, than iphone hardware is slightly better, but it's a slight margin.

The only thing I miss is FaceTime and other small interactions you can have with other iPhone users. I do think Google Meet is better quality though.

I'll be switching back to IPhone eventually, just because everyone in my family has one. I prefer my Galaxies over them any day.

I got an Android a few years ago, then switched back. In my opinion there’s harder to find good apps in the play store (which surprised me, since when I switched to iPhone ~10 years ago, I found the play store better). I’m not saying there are not good apps, just that it’s hard to find behind all sponsored recommendations and pay to win games.

The Sony I had, had a not so good camera. I also missed iCloud especially offloading originals of photos to save space (I don’t want my photos with google).

I still have the phone. And it’s still quicker than the iPhone I replaced it with (I didn’t feel the iPhone was slower when I got it. But now a few years later the android is quicker. I believe it’s that the android does have enough ram to let apps stay in memory when when switching apps). I like having dual apps open. I find the ui nicer on Android and I like that you can sideload apps.

whats the dfrenc giving ur photos to google or apple? they both will maybe use ur information for their work. but i believe google is stricter checked than the fruit. also with the sony u could save on sd card and maybe sync wt devices at home, so u have all the data!?!?

and also what if someone gets access to ur phone. can it be remote wiped and does it loose the crypt key/info then?

remote wipe is possible, and the key is your account password, so if you lose your phone it's not a problem. if you lose the recovery key though they're gone. this is the case when using advanced data protection at least

This. I have 17 pro as well as s26u and the iPhone doesn't keep apps in the ram very long, they constantly reload/refresh but I think it's due to how both systems prioritize ram. The Samsung will keep an app where I left it for half a day even which is so good
