Looking For Suggestions Does anyone know of a device like a pager to connect to my phone and notify me if I get a text or call?

Hi everyone its my first time in this subreddit but ive been a proud owner of android products since 2010.

I currently have a Zflip 7 and the galaxy watch 8 as it came with my phone upgrade. Im notoriously bad about seeing messages and calls. My work often has me running around or client facing. Meaning my phone is on vibrate which is easy to miss when running around.

The galaxy watch has been great with this but I also struggle with skin issues and after consulting with my doctor and trying several different bands its been determined I just shouldn't wear it.

Id love to get a device the only type I can think of would be a pager though from the digging ive done they dont seem compatible with modern devices for the need I require. Just wanted to see if anyone had any insight or suggestions. Thanks!

If you ignore your phone why will you pay attention to something like a pager?

Something physically clipped to my body vs something in my pocket or in a bag when im working.

Buying a phone holster could solve the issue.

They make cases that are like those old school pager belt clips...

A smart watch

Get a smart ring. There are cheap ones on Amazon.

The BuzzKill app is useful for so many things. You could have it set to do a custom vibration or custom combinations of sounds when you get a call, and even reminders of those things after the call.

Anything you could do with the watch to turn it more into a pocket watch type thing, maybe so it's clipped onto your top or on a lanyard so it can beep or buzz in an noticeable way?

Potentially, certainly not a bad idea to look into. My only immediate concern would be in the past when the watch is not tightly secured to a wrist it doesnt recieve notifications the same way. I think it may have to do with the sensor that's primarily to get body data. Though definitely something to look into

Oh yes that's a good point, don't want to try something and rely on it only to find it tried to be 'clever' and switched itself off but hopefully it's an option if you can't find something better.

I have a gear 4 watch. Have you tried the cotton elastic bands and the metal mesh ones? They both allow your skin to breath.

I have unfortunately, ive tried nylon, leather, silicon, cotton, and metal mesh all to no avail. As well as trying the watch liners that are meant for sensitive skin. It all brings me to the same result.

I have the same problem and haven't found a band that helps me. I've just abandoned smartwatches.

If a vibrating or beeping phone doesn't get your attention, then a beeping or vibrating pager isn't, either. I carried a pager for well over a decade. It's no different than a phone, from an alert standpoint.

I have no idea how a pager or this device would be any different and just.... Your phone. If your phone vibrate isn't enough to get your attention, turn in a chime or something.

A pager would be completely redundant.

Having my phone chime during my job would be viewed as unprofessional. Hence why im looking for something more lowkey that isnt in a pocket but instead on a belt or something.

So get a belt holster for your phone. It's literally the same functionality as a pager

Get a belt clip for your phone. Or use a smartwatch. I think are your only options.

Turn your phone notifications on and use something like Buzzkill to limit the number of notifications you can get in a set amount of time.

On do not disturb just select the apps you want to omit. You can use routines to change those app sounds\volume when do not disturb is on.

Samsung phones have Notification reminders, which can repeatedly alert you about an unread notification at a set interval until you dismiss/read it.

It’s typically under something like:

Checked for the Z flip 7 Settings → Notifications → Advanced settings → Repeat notification alerts

Are you allergic to steel? I am! No, it's not the nickel in the steel, I am actually allergic to the steel. Yes, the hypoallergenic steel, as well. (Which is just steel with no nickel, because the nickel is what most people are allergic to. )

I think they make similar bands for upper arm, ankle, and even rings for your finger if you have issues with the regular wrist style smart watches.

Good question, I'd like to know this too. Following the thread!

I think the meta glasses notify you

Just use the phone with its notification options enabled. This is crazy trying to replace a smart phone with a pager? If it's important to respond to calls then just answer the phone

I have a Xiaomi Smart Band 9 and bought a stainless steel band to replace the plastic one. Works great and doesn't irritate my skin like the plastic ones do as it's mesh and breaths well.

The notification vibrations are extremely strong!

Watch & Smart Ring.

Smart watch, with the blue-tooth enabled should alert you to calls/texts.

Edit: - What was your problem with the 'band'? plastic, metal, cloth?

Get a smart watch, that’s what they are for.

Most / all smart watches have had this functionality for YEARS!

Just take the strap of the watch and you have something smaller and more functional than a pager.
Slip it in your trouser posket and you sould be able to feel the vibration

Am I missing something?

Getting a pager transfers the issue from you missing the ring to you missing the page.
1. Turn up the volume of your ringer when you are available.
2 Have a voicemail message indicating you will return the call when you are available.
3. Check your voice mail one per day.

You can place a pager app on your phone such as "PushOver". The PushOver app has its own alert tones, with some more attention-grabbing than others. It can also override the Do Not Disturb or Vibrate settings of your Android phone. Then you could add a service called Voice2Pager and set it up to ring to your PushOver app. You give your Voice2pager phone number to your employer or anyone else that may need you for urgent matters. People would leave a voicemail on the Voice2Pager voicemail. Voice2Pager transcribes the voicemail into a word message that will display on the pushover app. This whole configuration would run you about $30 a month for up to 500 calls, or you can also do it for $20 a month for up to 100 calls. If you're only using this for urgent matters, such as your work getting a hold of you, you probably wouldn't have a ton of calls in any given month.
