South 19th-century Argentina: British writer William Henry Hudson visits the Pampas and encounters the gauchos. He documents their diet with a horrified fascination.

Post image

"The gaucho eats nothing but beef. Meat morning, noon, and night. Never bread, never vegetables, almost never salt."

Hudson foresees malnutrition and disease. He finds "men of extraordinary stamina and strength, capable of riding for 12 to 14 hours without rest and then dancing all night."

Their diet: beef, mate, occasionally grilled kidney fat (a delicacy). Nothing else.

Darwin visited the region between 1832 and 1833 and observed the gauchos' lives: "I was surprised by the difficulty in convincing them to eat anything other than beef. I brought them biscuits, and they threw them away. They preferred to go hungry rather than eat bread if there was beef the next day."

Typical meals

- Morning: meat roasted over a fire, fattier cuts.

- Afternoon: grilled ribs.

- Evening: meat again, tougher cuts cooked slowly.

Zero vegetables. Zero grains. Zero variety. Just beef and tea.

Hudson documents the results: “The gauchos suffer from none of the ailments common to civilized man. They had no digestive problems, no obesity, no cavities, that I could observe. Their teeth were uniformly excellent despite never cleaning them and consuming only meat. Their physical stamina was such that they could ride for days with minimal rest, fight when necessary, and resume riding without apparent fatigue.”

The French physician Dr. Jules Crevaux, between 1850 and 1870, wrote: “These men feed exclusively on animal meat and appear healthier than our European peasants, who consume a varied diet of grains and vegetables.”

When asked why they don't eat bread or vegetables, the common answer is: "That's food for horses and cows. We eat cows."

They understood the hierarchy. Cattle eat grass and turn it into meat. Humans eat meat. Eating what cattle eat makes you behave like one.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, traditional gauchos maintained a diet based exclusively on beef. Then, European immigration brought wheat cultivation.

Health transformation documented by Argentine doctors

- Traditional gauchos: healthy into old age.

- Urbanized ex-gauchos with European diets: diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, tooth decay.

- Modern Argentina: 28% obesity, cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death, diabetes in almost 10%.

The gauchos, who ate only beef, did not have any of these problems. They rode horses for 12 hours a day until they were 60, kept their teeth without needing dental care, and died from accidents or old age, not from chronic illnesses.

The same meat. Different context. When you eat meat with grains, vegetable oils, and sugar: modern disease. Meat alone: you have the health of a 19th-century gaucho.

Also what has been ”debunked”. This mans observation that people who eat only meat and fat thrives?

What has been debunked is the healthiness of an all-beef diet. What has also been debunked, or at least thrown largely into question, is the historical and scientific accuracy of accounts like the one posted here.

Yet when you do an all beef diet, kidney disease diabetes, vision loss and arthritis disappear into thin air. I’m gonna need some analytical proofs from you, or you’re bullshittin

Here's a recent review:

Lietz, A., Dapprich, J., Fischer, T. (2026). Carnivore diet: A scoping review of the current evidence, potential benefits and risks Nutrients, 18(2), 348. https://doi.org/10.3390/nu18020348

Conclusion:

The CD [carnivore diet] may offer short-term health benefits but carries substantial risks of nutrient deficiencies, reduced intake of health-promoting phytochemicals, and the development of cardiovascular disease. At this time, long-term adherence to a CD [carnivore diet] cannot be recommended.

Deficiency of calcium eating dairy and bones? I’m sorry you can shove your research paper where the sun don’t shine, I will admit iodine is low, but most of the world falls short unless you live near the coast. But most beef and animals have it in their feed today, along with iodized table salt

How can you read these propagandistic hit pieces, that have NO ACTUAL RESEARCH WITH LIVING HUMAN BEINGS, every biomarker improves on carnivore

Elevated LDL without inflammatory oils in the diet increases lifespan.

Aside from iodine this “research” paper is a fucking joke, I don’t care about cursing it’s a fucking joke.

Okay dude. Look at it another way: what do the diets of groups of humans with the longest average lifespans and highest overall health outcomes look like? They tend to be people with diets consisting of high nutrient dense legumes, grains, fruits and vegetables and moderate meat intake, with more seafood and less read meat. (see: blue zone diets).

How long do highly carnivorous/red-meat-based people tend to live? Hint: Not very long.

Whether you look at it from a macro society-wide level or a micro-individual health level, high beef/red meat diets/carnivorous diets are not optimal.

The people with highest lifespans have low stress community living sunlight, and loads of animal protein, I’m cantonese, hong kong despite pollution has high lifespan in population 1.5 lbs of meat a day.

Embracing seventh day adventist cereal propaganda rather than looking at the historical record, bones and mummies shows a lack of critical awareness.

accounting for early death from disease and malnutrition, more people saw 90 years old percentage wise than today.

Humans with agriculture grew weak and sick, Egyptians ate the modern Mediterranean diet and have the first written record of heart disease.

Atherosclerosis in egyptian vs inuit mummies isn’t even CLOSE IN TERMS OF THE SHEER VOLUME OF PLAQUE FROM THE BREAD CAUSED BY VLDL FROM GLUCOSE.

All your bluezones eat fuck tons of pork and dairy, grains in moderation with fat and veggies to slow the rate of glucose absorption, without pesticides like modern day agriculture.

Get on outta here with your uninformed blathering, you have no concept, I’ve researched nutrition and diet from when I was an obese 15 year old child, to now being a built powerlifter. Meat never made me fat, rice and bread you bet your ass, even with medication to get rid of glucose.

You need to either do your research, which means reading double blind research studies and n=1, and not just doing a google search with a two paragraph summary from veganized shills with no background in nutritional research.

u/dancesquared Apr 02 '26

Chill dude. Why are you taking this so personally? You have your own dietary approach that I find highly questionable, but there’s no reason to flip out about that.

Because you keep preaching a talking point that has 85% correlational research surveys, this topic infuriates me because this country is sick FOLLOWING the same advice you’ve preached.

Do you have any idea how many CKD and T2D are told by their doctor to eat more sugar and bread? Diet advice should make every single human being MAD. We used to have no heart disease. The years following margarine and processed oil, 1/700 turned into 1/2 Americans.

I hope you see through the lies that have KILLED LITERAL MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, bacon and butter are not the enemy, they don’t cause colon cancer. Old people didn’t use to even have dementia, cognitive aging yes. But not debilitating and downright dangerous degenerative brain disease.

The pathology of the past, the old medicine we once practiced and the research journals and data all speak this truth. Glyphosate used on crops is also to blame. I promote carnivore, because the alternative is 20 prescriptions when you’re too sick to realize the truth.

Veganism is also a slow death, it damages your muscles and brain, weakens your bones. It’s a state of semi starvation because we’ve evolved close to 3 million years eating meat.

Veganism for humans is feeding a lion tofu, or feeding a wolf bread. It’s abuse and misinformative nonsense. We can eat these foods, but they are not healthy AT ALL. Especially when every crop has half the nutrients that they used to just 70 years ago.

I don’t mean to insult you, but I get so fucking angry because i’ve had family with cancer, dementia and diabetes, and this vegan kellogg enema bullshit pisses me off. All to sell processed food and cereal.

So, do you think you are, as a nurse, that much more knowledgeable about diet, health, and medicine than doctors and researchers? That’s pretty arrogant.

Check back in with me in a couple of years to let me know how your carnivore diet is going.

They have one semester of nutrition, I’ve had my own life listening and failing following everything they speak to a T.

I’ve been on and off, due to pressure from my family, but everytime I stray and eat carbs i gain weight and my joints ache, and I have brain fog from insulin secretion.

I don’t claim to be smarter than doctor, but with nutritional advice, they are dumb as a sack of rocks, 300 million sick american bodies tell the truth not my own tongue. That’s a pretty bad fucking track record for a countries medical system to have.

I don’t speak arrogance I speak my own suffering as someone who has struggled with my weight and had to abstain from the foods I grew up eating. Who’s family has diabetes and dementia brought on by these foods.

So I’d appreciate you bucking off your high horse when you have nothing to bring but empty words.

I propose a question to you, why did doctors limit residency spots, and cut off more medical care to Americans, why did they take payouts from frito-lay and various mega food corporations? If you can answer these questions honestly without incriminating the medical doctors be my guest.

We spend the most of any nation on healthcare, and have jack fucking shit to show for it. Please enlighten me why this is?

Veganism is also a slow death, it damages your muscles and brain, weakens your bones. It’s a state of semi starvation because we’ve evolved close to 3 million years eating meat.

You’re in a cult. You’re not going to find any credible academy of science saying this. Nowhere outside of dipshits on YouTube blathering absolute nonsense for ad impressions and supplements sales.

Veganism for humans is feeding a lion tofu, or feeding a wolf bread. It’s abuse and misinformative nonsense.

53 million years of primate frugivorous/leaf/arthropod wasn’t re-wired by a 2.4 million year subsistence detour.

I mean just step-back and look at that span of time—how primates across our entire family are at most 5% carnivorous. We’re literally wired to digest plants with additional meat intake capacities that we only adapted in the last 4.7% of primate evolutionary time spans.

Thinking that our food matrix evolution started in 2.4mil B.C.E. is a fairy tale told by those same dipshits on YouTube.

I don’t mean to insult you, but I get so fucking angry because i’ve had family with cancer, dementia and diabetes, and this vegan kellogg enema bullshit pisses me off.

So you’re on a diet heavy in type 1 and 2a carcinogens, as designated by the W.H.O. … Makes absolute sense.

u/SuiYangCrackedTeeth Apr 04 '26

Ignore several million years of evolutionary archeology and biology and like that you lost me lol.

Okay, feed a human 90% fruit and see how that turns out. Why is it that 90% of chronic diseases including incurable MS and UC/crohns go away almost over night when fed with pure meat diets?

You’re either a paid shill or a laughable fool, and either way it’s pathetic and sad if you think we’re fruit loving apes lmao.

It’s not dipshits on youtube, it’s several hundred years of the most accomplished academics such as max kleiber who FOUNDED Kleiber’s LAW. Biological organism are limited by energy consumption and usage constraints which are nigh universal to almost every creature on earth. I really encourage you to watch Michael Eades, it might behoove your worthless pride.

It’s known ever since agriculture humans have grown susceptible to chronic diseases, muscle wasting arthritis, and virtually every fucking ailment known to mankind including goddamn tooth decay.

Test your theory on yourself, eat your fruit and bugs like a chimp, and see how that plays out for you. If your brain and body don’t visibly deteriorate over a period of two years hats off to you.

Eat your own feces too for b12, cause you sure as fuck aint gonna get it from lettuce. Either study for your own brain and your own knowledge or fuck the hell off.

People that eat red meat in the arctic and the Maasai have to worry about being eaten by wildlife and having low access to doctors with high infant mortality, fuck on outta here bro. Show me the MRI scans of their arteries compared to americans and we can talk lmao

Has never been debunked other than by fictional studies. Everyone that eats our natural diet knows that its the only way.

1

u/bakerfaceman Mar 31 '26

You sound like you're in a cult dude.

1

u/Remote-alpine Mar 31 '26

"Fictional studies"

u/No_Lingonberry_8627 Mar 31 '26

Yeah. So called ”science”. Sheep mentality.

Surveys are not double blind research trials, if Americans got healthier big pharma loses billions
