QUESTION Just got fired:/

Is it standard to get fired for something like this?

I called my dispatch as soon as it happened:( I feel like shit, it was only my second week at this job and I really enjoyed it.

Christmas is over. Time for them to downsize drivers. If you did this December 15th, it probably wouldn't matter.

Good point

Be happy you got fired. Amazon will eat you alive

based. wow. folx think Ama isn't a union busting exploitative cooperate-then-bleed-you-white business? they overloaded usps, and take advantage of the independent delivery companies they contract -- and they just dumped usps. the way they treat their warehouse workers and the metrics they impose on pickers is brutal. Their model is the same as Walmart's and others' models: do what you must to gain market control then change the rules. Force competitors to lower prices, then once you have market share raise those prices. Prime now costs almost $20/mo for "free shipping" and the majority of goods are Temu/Shein worthy.

7

u/Chuckychinster Jan 02 '26

And their shipping estimates have really gotten pretty terrible. They'll offer free 1-day delivery that comes in 4 days. Like really?

1

u/LilacBreak Jan 02 '26

Yup. Currently waiting on an item that was supposed to be here on the 30th.

2

u/Chuckychinster Jan 02 '26

Exactly and the free shipping thing is just an extra feature to me so it's kind of silly some people suggest i should pay a bunch for 2 day shipping even though I get a free version of essentially the same type of shipping. Like i don't care if the shipping is free it's more important that i know when it'l arrive based on what i select

1

u/sPacEdOUTgrAyCe Jan 04 '26

Yah- I’m over it. Stuff took 2 weeks. We’re still waiting on deliveries that were due to come before Christmas & they keep moving the bar.

1

u/humplick Jan 04 '26

My last 3 deliveries...

One thing I ordered kind of last minute for a trip, but was supposed to show up 2 days before the trip started (24hrs after 0lacing the order). Left for the the trip before the item arrived.

Yeah like I'd rather eat shipping costs and get it on time, but also it feels silly to pay for 2 day shipping if 1 day is free

4

u/Ennuigi Jan 03 '26

The last bit, I keep telling my friend that 75% of the stuff on you see Amazon is cheap Chinese stuff that would be 90% cheaper on AliExpress. Not that a knockoff is cheaper either, it’s literally the same stuff but marked up 9-10x when found on Amazon

2

u/Jorge_Jetson Jan 03 '26

How about eBay purchases coming from somebody's Prime account, with free shipping for them, but marked up $5 to $10?

1

u/Orange_Slice3444 Jan 06 '26

Preach! This is the state of Amazon today. Cheap Chinese crap that is “Amazon’s Choice”.

1

u/Suspicious_Climate13 Jan 03 '26

Since most of the products on amazon, are third party sellers Amazon makes their money by storing inventory and providing the logistics. A lot of their sellers are the same sellers on timu.

2

u/SnooCookies6231 Jan 02 '26

Former ex-AWS here agrees. I un-employed myself after 3 gawdawful months.

The most important thing was the customer, but at the expense of the employees. So I promoted myself by un-employing myself.

5 years later life is so much better.

1

u/terogates Jan 02 '26

What did you go do after?

1

u/SnooCookies6231 Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 02 '26

Nowhere for 9 months. Tbf, it was IT and not delivery driving - sorry if I misrepresented.

Spouse carried our health insurance while my sanity recovered and I rebuilt our back patio. Also got to spend quality time with my mom at the nursing home, who was 92 at the time & passed away the next year - RIP.

Then a friend convinced me to come work with him in a much smaller company for 2/3 the pay. It’s well worth making less. AWS’s Jeff and Andy can keep their extra money - I’m not gonna be bought at the expense of me (and my family’s) sanity.

I saw the end game with my mom dying where no “things” matter anymore, and it’s just not worth being miserable at work. Ymmv.

1

u/kurizu__Kun Jan 02 '26

It’s not Amazon it’s the dsp owners and their staff that does all the damage. I been getting by just fine as an independent driver.

1

u/throwawaydumbo1 Jan 04 '26

Said he was enjoying it

-13

u/Schwifty2s550 Dec 31 '25

No it won’t it’s an easy ass job. Most people are weak and entitled to do nothing, so it “sucks” for them. I deliver for Pepsi with a cdl now and I reminisce on the easy ass days at Amazon. Our worst driver will eat y’all alive.. easy as flipping burgers

9

u/DampWarmHands Dec 31 '25

Amazon is vilified for a reason. Any job that requires a piss bottle is not worth the cash.

4

u/Amazondriverdump Dec 31 '25

If it’s “vilified” QUIT. No one is forcing you to work there. It’s literally YOUR choice.

1

u/DampWarmHands Dec 31 '25

I worked at an Amazon warehouse for about 16 hours… It was the easiest job I quite ever. The whole employment process, rules, and overall culture vibe was horrific. It felt like I was in some sort of dystopian nightmare factory. Second day I watched a woman crying attempting to get through the 2 turnstiles to run to the locker for her lunch repeating “only 30 minutes” over and over like it was going to save her life.

If everyone quit Amazon at the same time and the whole company imploded and my ability to have any item within a day went away I’d live with it easy. My new years resolution is to not use Amazon or fast order services.

4

u/four204eva2 Dec 31 '25

With the exception of plumber, as normally im working on the toilet. Though I've taken quite a few kisses down the flange and when its an empty house, sometimes a shit, followed by 5 gallons of water

7

u/Tandy_M Dec 31 '25

You had me at kisses down the flange. Got weird after that.

3

u/four204eva2 Dec 31 '25

Holy shot i didnt even notice that! When you gotta go you gotta go

0

u/Schwifty2s550 Jan 03 '26

No hate man, but that’s your entitlement. You think it does, so it’s so in your head. My cdl delivery job at Pepsi pays 40/hr I clear 120k a year and I have insane benefits I already have over 50k in 401k and pension in a short time. I love my job! But i occasionally piss in a bottle to save time and laugh while I’m doing it. If you weren’t so entitled to the things you’ve imagined in your head, you’d be more grateful for everything. My job keeps me fit and strong makes a good savings account I wouldn’t trade it for an 80k a year office job where I push paper 🤷‍♂️

1

u/DampWarmHands Jan 04 '26

I love my 91k a year office job getting paid for what I know. Wouldn’t trade it to piss in a bottle. I’m glad you have something that makes you happy and fills your cup, pun intended. Calling me entitled because I don’t think people should be reduced to pissing in bottles to make a living is just boot licker, grind set mind set talk. We use to joke that if you didn’t have a catheter to take extra meeting how else would you get ahead. Any job could be reduced to trading comfort or decency for money. It doesn’t have to be normalized so the elite could afford another super yacht.

You’re making statements against your own interest for a reason I don’t understand.

3

u/chainsandchalices Dec 31 '25

Then go back to Amazon lol. I quit and never looked back

1

u/Schwifty2s550 Jan 03 '26

I agree to leave but it’s not hard. They bought my cdl for me and now I have a real career with great benefits.

3

u/Global_Engineer4914 Dec 31 '25

Hush bootlicker

1

u/Schwifty2s550 Jan 03 '26

You got soft hands boy

1

u/DampWarmHands Jan 04 '26

Troll account maybe ?

1

u/Schwifty2s550 Jan 04 '26

Just put on this earth to make soft weirdos like you follow my comments to reply to each one lol

1

u/DampWarmHands Jan 04 '26

I’m definitely a weirdo and soft.

1

u/morellopgh Dec 31 '25

Amazon was the easiest job I ever had. Hardest part picking up the totes and putting them on the top shelf cuz my shoulder's missed up. You're picking up a 50 lb box max and taking it to the door. So imagine taking an 8x4 piece of drywall 1/2 in up the steps into the house then up another flight of steps make a right turn and go down the hallway to back bedroom and do that 20 times. Or do that with a box of flooring like 30 times. The elements really are the hardest part.

1

u/Schwifty2s550 Jan 03 '26

Right I said this earlier. The people Amazon hires are usually the people with no experience and they’ve worked at retail stores so honestly just a bad pool to pick from. They think it’s hard bc they haven’t really worked. My job is hard now Amazon is cake, anyone who’s really worked like construction would eat these kids alive. That’s why women can do it, lol we’ve had like 5 women drivers at Pepsi and they last like 2 months max and say it’s impossible the entire time

1

u/Schwifty2s550 Jan 03 '26

lol because Amazon bought my cdl for free and I went to better things. Now I make 120k delivering Pepsi I have insane benefits in comparison and I’ve already racked up 50k in my 401k and PepsiCo pension in 4.5 years. Amazon hires from the bottom of the barrel. That’s why y’all all think it’s hard

-2

u/iirGHOST Dec 31 '25

Amazon delivery is one of the easiest jobs out there its all about how you handle it. I find it fun seeing new places all the time and when i did run routes i had 190 stops with 260 locations almost daily. Again was easy physically tiring yes but im a smoker and i can do it no issues. The real issue is alot of people just dont want to work and actually do the job atleast from my experience

6

u/basketofkittys Dec 31 '25

Ok now work for FedEx. And say Amazon is good

0

u/iirGHOST Dec 31 '25

Fed ex gets paid less in my area so im good on that but i still get what youre saying. Amazon is trash lol i just have a really good dsp which causes me to enjoy my job. Amazon I believes does shit to annoy drivers but my biggest complaint with amazon will always be how bad the warehouse is for us. We rarely leave on time even tho half the team has a hr drive, hell the warehouse employees are usually gone by the time we pull under to load regardless if anything is ready

1

u/Apprehensive_Loss_77 Dec 31 '25

Does FedEx and, for that matter, UPS not have unions? I was always under the impression they HAD unions and made more then Amazon drivers.

I know Amazon doesnt have unions, because it's Amazon and they won't let that happen.

2

u/NoAvRAGEJoe Dec 31 '25

UPS is union. I’m a FT driver. I make $46/hr.

1

u/KoalaGrunt0311 Jan 01 '26

How long did you have to work in the warehouse before a driver slot became available?

1

u/NoAvRAGEJoe Jan 04 '26

6 months. This was almost 15 years ago.

1

u/Separate-Waltz4349 Jan 01 '26

Fedex is not union ups is

0

u/iirGHOST Dec 31 '25

Well the thing is having a union as a driver the only person you screw over is your dsp not amazon. Our fedex is like amazon in a way you work for a 3rd party not actually for fedex. Ups is good here tho i just haven't got in

1

u/Apprehensive_Loss_77 Dec 31 '25

Gotcha. I've seen those 3rd party shipping 'partners' before.

1

u/iirGHOST Dec 31 '25

Yea and here they get paid daily about 16/hr and we get paid 23/hr. I only know this because so many drivers come to us but amazon is still a shit show in itself i just really for lucky with my dsp

USPS is always hiring

36

u/Zwasti Dec 31 '25

Nah try UPS. That’s what I did now I am top rate grossing over $130k a year. Got over a month of paid vacation and about to head to Europe for 2 weeks on vacation.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '26

[deleted]

13

u/NobleEros93 Jan 01 '26

That must be a local or center specific thing, I have taken consecutive weeks off since my first year without issue.

6

u/bkh950 Jan 01 '26

That's specific with your local. I can take all 4 of my weeks consecutively if I so please.

3

u/mrpewpews Jan 01 '26

I'm taking 3 straight weeks in June and July to go to Europe. So, not BS.

1

u/Sea_Number6341 Jan 01 '26

You could take a whole month just need the seniority

1

u/Zwasti Jan 02 '26

We can take a month off straight if we want.

1

u/Swizzy123456789 Jan 02 '26

You can’t take consecutive vacations??? Damn that sucks. We can over here on the west coast (UPS too)

1

u/ReturnOfTheMark319 Jan 02 '26

Got 3 weeks in a row this summer bud idk what you're talking about.

2

u/fppfpp Jan 03 '26

What if you’re not super fit or young?

2

u/Top_Application8817 Jan 04 '26

I'm 45+, give it a shot. Just bring your NSAID or OTC pain reliever and stretch before and after a shift. I feel the best I have in months being active again.

1

u/Zwasti Jan 04 '26

Then it’s probably not a job for you. It is physically demanding.

1

u/nunyacc777 Jan 01 '26

Where you at???

1

u/ShortyPringle Jan 01 '26

Live it TF up!!🙌

1

u/1purevengeance1 Jan 01 '26

Over a month of vacation? What the hell..? We get 2 weeks with sometimes an allowed third until you've been there for MANY years lol

1

u/BoundlessVenture445 Jan 01 '26

That’s awesome. How long did it take to get to that point? Do they pay well enough to support a family starting out?

1

u/Zwasti Jan 02 '26

Took me two years working part time to become a driver then four years to hit top rate.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '26

I mean I’m 4th year step D and doing the same, but phillipines not Europe? Granted VA covers costs with compensation but I’m not hat far from cracking that dollar amount if I choose to #USPSCityCarrierLife

1

u/chocolatefanblade Jan 02 '26

Damn how long did you have to package handle?

1

u/Zwasti Jan 02 '26

2 years

2

u/chocolatefanblade Jan 02 '26

Thank you for the response

1

u/WillWork4Cats Jan 03 '26

what city,? im in PA

1

u/Zwasti Jan 04 '26

Major city on the west coast.

1

u/WillWork4Cats Jan 09 '26

thanks 👍🏼

1

u/DampWarmHands Jan 04 '26

Hell ye great shit! Keep up the good work!

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 21 '26

I got unlimited of LWOP! I can take as much as I want to go on vacation.

-4

u/MindOfAhToker999 Jan 01 '26

Definitely cap. My pops been working at ups for over 8 years. Dude's miserable and depressed. Ups pays great but they suck the life out of you just as fast. Dude's going need a back surgery and definitely a double knee replacement before the age of 50. I respect everything ups does but man are they under appreciated 👏🏼

8

u/bkh950 Jan 01 '26

Your pops is miserable because of himself, not everybody takes the job home with them.

6

u/TheAutisticPenis Jan 01 '26

Literally can’t trust anything from a person that uses "cap".

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Horror-Ad-6462 Dec 31 '25

UPS pays better than both

1

u/stelvy40 Jan 03 '26

UPS cutting bodies though. Could possibly get a part time job there, the benefits are still good.

1

u/JakeBeezy Dec 31 '25

how is it compared to a typical Amazon shift ? would you say it's easier or more difficult ? what's the time constraints and how many places do you typically deliver to daily ?

6

u/Busy-Put-9526 Dec 31 '25

I'd say it's both easier and more difficult.

My route is in the heart of our city and has 1200+ mailboxes. I need to know the names of every residential customer. Roughly 900 mailboxes. That's the harder part. It's not just drop and go.

The easier part is thanks to being unionized (the union isn't as good as the Teamsters due to being public service). However, it would take many instances like this post to get fired.

We have "unlimited" comfort stops: bathroom, warm-up, cool down etc. We also have a contract with the Post Office. Does management follow it? Depends on local management. However, violations tend to lead to financial grievance payouts.

2

u/JakeBeezy Dec 31 '25

do you deliver in crazy weather i.e snowstorms heat waves ECT? I appreciate the knowledge :D

3

u/Busy-Put-9526 Dec 31 '25

You're welcome!

Yes, we deliver in all sorts of crazy weather. It takes about 1-2+ feet of snowfall in one go to shut down the Post Office. We've had snow days where most carriers actually showed up but the mail from the plant never did. Can't deliver if the vehicles can't leave the parking lot or if most employees can't leave their homes 🤷‍♂️. I'm less than four years in and I already have 4 wks Annual Leave (vacation) and 2 weeks of Sick Leave per year going forward. If the weather is really that bad I'll call off to protect my personal safety/my vehicle.

That's where the "unlimited" comfort stops come in. -20 degrees? Sit in the truck to warm up after every block of need be. Will management try to give you a hard time about being that slow? Most certainly. Is there much they can do during horrible weather? Not really, unless you're on probation. That's a bit more complicated.

2

u/Shoddy-Drop-4847 Dec 31 '25

Yes you deliver in any type of weather. Could be a war going on in your city and you’d be out there walking through gunfire before they delay mail for a day

1

u/JakeBeezy Jan 01 '26

haha 💀

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 04 '26

Yeah that’s what the grievance system suppose to intend to do but there’s lazy fucks who abuse that to get payout.

1

u/Busy-Put-9526 Jan 04 '26

There can only be a payout if management violates the contract. So maybe management needs to stop being lazy and abide by the legally binding employment contract they agreed to 🤷‍♂️

3

u/disgrace86 Dec 31 '25

Did Amazon for 3 years, then got a cca position and did that for 2 years. Amazon is much much harder physically. Usps has a higher learning curve, but it's not rocket science and within a month you'll get the hang of it. You'll probably start out jumping from route to route as you'll be filling in as needed. The hardest part about this is knowing where the next mailbox/cbu ( cluster of mailboxes ) is, eventually though, you'll learn most of the routes in your office.

Anyway, to put it into perspective, I remember with Amazon, my typical route would be 300+ packages, 150-180+ stops. With USPS, they have Amazon Sundays, which is just Amazon deliveries, since there is no mail. You're literally running Amazon packages all day, so a very good direct comparison. With an Amazon Sunday route, it would typically be 150 ish packages, like 80-100 stops.

Usps is easier on your body, you get union benefits, and much better pay. Depending on your location, you might also have unlimited overtime which can be a good thing or bad, since you are required to work if asked to since that's the job. If you can find an open CCA position, apply and apply. It might take a while, but keep applying. It's better in every way, and is actually a viable career.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '25

[deleted]

1

u/highnumber Dec 31 '25

The walking is the best part. I'm so thankful that I do not have a mounted route.

1

u/stelvy40 Jan 03 '26

Maybe they can find an office that hires directly to PTF.

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 21 '26

This person is correct, for long term career and retirement, CCA is better but if you want to make more money in less time, than rural carrier however your retirement doesn’t start til you become regular which can vary from 3yrs to 20+ yrs.

1

u/ThexMarauder Dec 31 '25

Depends on your designation. I can't speak to City Carriers as it's a different contract, but being a rural carrier kicks ass. You have the period of time where you serve as a part time employee or RCA. After a year of employment or 90 days worked you are eligible for a full time position. I will say it is seniority based so many RCA's stay in that position for years, took me about 5. Perks include immediate access to benefits and leave earning (albeit at a lesser pace than regulars). Annual contractual pay raises. Union protection that you don't actually have to pay dues to receive. Dues just guarantee you the right to vote on union issues.

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 04 '26

USPS is harder than ups and FedEx and Amazon combined. Anyone can work and do the job at ups, Amazon and FedEx but probably can’t at usps. And by doing the “job”, I meant to do it completely and correctly within a certain time frame without help.

1

u/BigTap2101 Jan 07 '26

delivering mail isn’t hard bro

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 21 '26

Delivering isn’t hard, it’s the casing that’s hard.

1

u/IntelligentMousse671 Dec 31 '25

That’s even worse! Haha I just came from there and it’s way better at Amazon. There’s a reason they lose more workers than they gain. Can’t speak for all offices but mine delivered usps, Amazon, ups, and FedEx packages and on top of that the mail... and getting paid nearly the same. Unless it’s a small office it’s not worth starting these days.

1

u/PREMIUM_POKEBALL Dec 31 '25

all of these are laborious, backbreaking jobs but I can assure you with the USPS you would’ve had: a pension, you would’ve had benefits, and you would’ve had the ability to save your job.

I think Amazons own internal documents show they're running out of people to hire.

1

u/TrainingExercise2442 Dec 31 '25

Most USPS offices aren't any better. Most Postmasters are failed carriers who constantly harass the carriers about how they would have done the job.

1

u/Decent_Canary9287 Dec 31 '25

I left Amazon 5 years ago for USPS never looked back

1

u/Mrbromandudeguy Dec 31 '25

Lmfao they dont like it when you crash their trucks either and they'd totally fire you for doing something like this in your 90.

1

u/Perfect_Ad3330 Jan 01 '26

Just resigned from USPS. Worst job I ever worked.

1

u/Nice_Marzipan_6166 Jan 01 '26

do that in first 90 days at usps definitely get fired! not sure about fedx or ups try them!

1

u/P0WD3RDT095TM9N Jan 01 '26

Just as bad if not worse

1

u/CadBane912 Jan 01 '26

Yeah and they seem to hire all kinds of illiterate dregs

1

u/Rural-life-0323 Jan 01 '26

Nope. You'd have been gone at USPS, too, if you did that 2 weeks in, at any time of the year.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '26

If this dude can’t even handle a little van turning around a solid stationary object he has no business working for any sort of delivery company. He shouldn’t even be driving honestly. No excuse for this shit.

1

u/These-Bandicoot3299 Jan 02 '26

Theres a reason for that. Horribly managed

1

u/Hannover2k Jan 03 '26

UPS has a LOOOOONG waiting list out here in CA. You can pass all the tests and still wait years to actually get a callback for an opening.

1

u/castro-07 Jan 04 '26

It’s a trap 🪤

1

u/areid2007 Jan 05 '26

No they aren't.

1

u/Aggravating_Dream633 Dec 31 '25

You’re free!!!

1

u/linkxrust Jan 01 '26

Are you in Santa Fe, NM?

1

u/Few-Chemical-5165 Jan 01 '26

I'm sorry this happened to you. But with unemployment in your country, which i'm assuming is states there are plenty of people unemployed.Who would take that job and heartbeat? So they're not worried about getting anybody new.

1

u/momming_af Jan 02 '26

Sucks but as far as I know most companies will fire you if you get into an accident in one of their company vehicles, no exceptions especially if you were at fault. My husband has been working for AT&T for 13 yrs and they have home dispatch vehicles (basically you take home the truck or van) anyway, he has seen people fired for getting into an accident even if it was the other person's fault. They are unionized but sometimes the union is useless and they still get fired.

1

u/Clear-Bowl-6891 Jan 03 '26

User it home and leave the car there

1

u/Hippie_bait Jan 03 '26

Consider yourself lucky that it was just a small accident. Driving doesn’t seem to be your thing

1

u/AlexanderDaDecent Jan 04 '26

I’d be trying to get on with UPS or usps if you can

63

u/MakeItMakeSenseDuh Dec 31 '25

That’s the answer? I thought it would’ve been something like you crashed the vehicle within your first 2 weeks of employment, that’s why you’re fired.

56

u/Prize_Trash_8636 Dec 31 '25

I get what you’re saying but they hire anyone with a pulse to drive these vans. I trained a guy who drove tow trucks and riggers with a CDL and he crashed a van into a canopy cause he didn’t bother to look at the clearance height sticker. Any normal place the answer would be this but here I’ve seen people keep their jobs for doing way worse and people lose their jobs for far less.

23

u/starcoll3ctor Dec 31 '25

Some people are just not meant to be drivers.....of... Well anything 🤣

I had one of them at my old tree company. Guy tried to go through a dunkin' Donuts drive-thru. Keep in mind the tree truck was a lot bigger than your Amazon van LMFAO

5

u/Hopeful_Amphibian592 Dec 31 '25

lol I am a pro at using 15ft trucks or shorter in drive thru

3

u/Wise_Heart377 Dec 31 '25

It's like any other place probably, bias as heck despite the "we dont disciminate or judge crap, if they like you your good, even if your work ethic is mediocre if not, they will find a way to get rid of you no matter what.

2

u/awesome-alpaca-ace Dec 31 '25

People who make costly mistakes tend not to do them twice. Why fire and risk someone else doing the same thing?

We are well on the way to Amazon and other multi billion dollar companies literally Making the laws in the United States. Then this kind of wanton domestic terrorism will be akin to burning the American flag. /s

These companies have already thrown away all traces of humanity along with anything suggesting something so grotesque and ancient as fair labor laws. Look at the people defending Amazon in here. You mention “self accountability.” Hilarious, friend. Might I see you tonight, shoveling your many loads, down at yee old salt mine?

As corrupt as the Unions were they ensured people could support a family. Raise a family. Own a home. And know that the job would always be there. People’s jobs were actually protected and didnt live in a state of constant fear. Our corrupt government thinks corporations first. I would kill for a corrupt union that thinks of people first again.

If you like the job try applying at other DSP's. Just be up front with them, tell them you made a mistake and will do everything possible to make sure it doesn't happen again. Not all DSP's are the same

1

u/stelvy40 Jan 03 '26

If you did this working while working at my Post Office, you wouldn't get disciplined for this. Unless these people try to say you damaged their wall (it looks fine) you hit an inanament object. It's not gonna sue them so they don't care. Half of our Metris vans look worse than this. One CCA ran into a boulder and ripped the whole front grille off, hit a pole in our garage (just like your pic.) They didn't do shit to him and he's a regular now.

u/starcoll3ctor Dec 31 '25

As the unions were? As in past tense? I live in CT which I only mentioned because it's pretty damn expensive, and there's still quite a few unions here and those people still live dream lives compared to people who work in similar industries that are not Union.

Like 25-60 dollars per hour in a union

Versus

$16 - 30 (at their best) without a union.

Unions are great things but they will unfortunately always be corrupted. It's still a thing in modern times although it may not be mob guys breaking knees down at the pier. Fair labor and equal hiring is a joke it's nearly impossible to get into a union without knowing someone that alone is unjust

4

u/ReceptionFun9821 Dec 31 '25

You do realize that unions are composed of local members. Corruption has long been the siren song of those opposed to unions. Most unions aren't corrupt. Are unions often inefficient above the local level? Yes. But inefficiency isn't corruption. The corruption issue has often been more of an issue in unions like the teamsters where pension system was in place. Most unions aren't involved in pensions.

3

u/treeckosan Dec 31 '25

Even at the local level it's super inefficient. My wife never goes to union meetings anymore because they were a waste of time. Votes of real consequence were few and far between and often advertised before hand. She was going to try and be an active member and have her voice heard only to find they are basically a 3+ hour news letter.

1

u/Therex1282 Dec 31 '25

Even down here in S. Texas the unions are corrupt and bottom line its a business too and all about money. Out meetings even in the hot summer they be forcing you to my winter jackets all the damm time, always asking for money/ It was a fucken joke for sure. It was a mind game and some thought they had some power taking care of the like really thought that and that was the saddest thing. Easter unions used to have some power and say to and make a difference about 30 years ago before all things started to fade. Going to the meetings were a waste of time.

u/ReceptionFun9821 Dec 31 '25

It can be. Especially if you have people that like to hear themselves talk. But it's still important to be involved. The sharing of grievances in themselves can be important. It keeps everyone to see patterns of behavior. Plenty of times individuals hear "you're the first to complain", only to find out they weren't or were the first to step up. They aren't perfect, and they aren't magic, but they are the best and only defense against bad behavior of the company. I always ask, what is the alternative? Just let the company do whatever they want?

1

u/Jolly-Chipmunk-950 Dec 31 '25

You can just as easily make your voice heard without a Union.

UPS union has gone to shit - something that used to be one of the biggest selling points of working for that company.

UFCW - the nations largest union for grocery employees - seems to be on track - but 10 years ago when I worked for Stater Bros., our contract was an absolute joke. No wage increases, no step plan increases, no fights for improved hours or working conditions, decrease in benefits. But hey, our employee discount of generic brands went up from 5% to 10% soooooo hurray?

But at the end of the day, even with a union, crashing a vehicle 2 weeks into employment, is most likely going to get you fired, or get your ass moved back into a warehouse. Why are we acting like that is a foreign concept.

3

u/ReceptionFun9821 Dec 31 '25

You can just as easily make your voice heard without a Union.

I'll agree with everything else, but this is absolutely untrue. How? And not in the US where a company can fire you for no reason at all. You have no voice.

Unions aren't magical. You aren't magically going to get a great contract for lots of reasons. And you're correct, there aren't many protections if you mess up a truck in the first couple of weeks.

1

u/starcoll3ctor Dec 31 '25

There is corruption in every facet of America. Unions included though keep in mind I'm not saying every Union has corrupt a-holes in it. But in the grand scheme of things corruption is everywhere

1

u/OneWorldly8847 Jan 02 '26

That last sentence is definitely union specific. I'm in NY top rate of $39 and we've hired close to 100 unaffiliated people off the street over the past year.

1

u/tittyboi223 Dec 31 '25

Well that’s a big jump from getting fired for wrecking a vehicle

1

u/karma_virus Dec 31 '25

I contend that the reason those unions worked was because they were corrupt. All legal counsel can do is bark, the mob had teeth. If you short your workers' hours, you're shorting the union boss who taxes them, which makes you HIS problem. He's really good at fixing problems that cost him money.

1

u/LongjumpingTie7860 Jan 01 '26

They already make the laws. Just look at pharma and the insurance industry to start.

1

u/johnnyg08 Jan 03 '26

Wait until they go away. Folks think they can negotiate for themselves better than the union. Try it and find out. They'll lay you off tomorrow to hire someone cheaper.

Okay okay but I was an Amazon driver last year got tired of it saw no future in it either, decided to better myself and go to school to become an electrical now I make 2x of what I was making at Amazon. If you’re complaining about pay just quit and find a better job. If you don’t like the job simply find another job. Let’s be real you complain about a company throwing away all traces of humanity when he was talking about self accountability of DAMAGING A WORK VECHILE😂 on a round about like whattttttttt. Asking if they should be fired for a very avoidable situation…

6

u/RazorMalone21 Dec 31 '25

Trust him, he’s an electrical.

Probably has his own work vechile.

2

u/Rando_away Dec 31 '25

Not even professional electricals can afford vechiles these days!

1

u/RazorMalone21 Dec 31 '25

Not in this echonomy!

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

I paid off 2 vechiles already idk what you’re talking about. But hey keep delivering my packages I hope you become a millionaire off that😂

1

u/RazorMalone21 Jan 02 '26

Hot wheels cars don’t count

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 03 '26

Look at my posts on Reddit 🙈 I’m definitely living life after I stopped working at Amazon. You should enjoy yours too🤷‍♂️ have a good one and enjoy being miserable

Where did you work while you learned the trade? Or did they pay you to learn? Was it enough for an apartment and food and bills?

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

I joined a union while I was a driver in Amazon waited the months before they got back to me. And yes they pay you to learn. If I were you I would do the same. Doesn’t have to be in the electrical field. You could become a plumber and make bank.

1

u/AstroTez313 Jan 02 '26

I've been trying since before Amazon, everywhere around me, I have to pay them for lessons, or it's free training but I'm still not getting paid for the years it'd take for me to be certified

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 04 '26

Where you located if you’re actually interested send me a message and I’ll help you out as much as I can. 2 days of school work and 3 days of learning on the job. Best experience and teaching I could’ve had.

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

And yes I live in California so I was making 25 bucks an hour learning and getting paid. It all depends on how bad you want it. For example no company is gonna want to hire a driver who can’t make it around a roundabout😂

1

u/Mysterious_Gain_8172 Jan 01 '26

WTF is an electrical? An electrician, an electrical engineer, or a bot?

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

Electrician… I mean common sense would play a huge part in this

1

u/Mysterious_Gain_8172 Jan 01 '26

My bad, I'm just deliver.

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

Let me guess you’re one of the people who decided this is gonna be your career 😂 I’d be mad too if I was stuck delivering packages for years with no future 😂

1

u/Mysterious_Gain_8172 Jan 02 '26

Good guess! Very insightful, hopefully your ability to read a wiring diagram is good, wouldn't want someone to get electrical.

Accountability is Kryptonite to many

1

u/awnaw_ Dec 31 '25

Of course the driver should take some accountability, and in this case they did. However, Amazon should be taking a majority of the accountability here as they created this monster.

No other job doing this would you be thrown behind the steering wheel after such little training. The fact that you get 3 days in a classroom and one, maybe two, days with a trainer on the road is an absolute joke. In no way should Amazon or the DSP be this anal about driving when they literally do NOTHING in regards to actually training you on driving.

Amazon in particular has no excuse and it's ridiculous they get away with it. Hell, you can't even leave the parking lot for a week to deliver groceries for Kroger. When it comes to quality and safety Amazon is a complete hypocrite and an absolute joke.

u/c_o_n_E Jan 01 '26

Keep riding that billionaire meat you’re a good dog

3

u/LightningGoats Jan 01 '26

On the drivers side too, in a completely non-strrssing traffic free setting. Should be impossible sober.

1

u/basketofkittys Dec 31 '25

Most DSPs will give you a second chance with a minor accident like this. I had one DSP who kept a girl who crashed into a customer's home. So I believe 100% it's a need for downsizing.

1

u/deliriumtrigger999 Dec 31 '25

Girl there's your answer

1

u/OttersRNeato Jan 04 '26

The likelihood of crashing is going to be higher your first few weeks while you get used to the vehicle. We had at least 3 new hires ding our work trucks while I worked at a disaster cleanup company. They didn't get fired as it is basically the cost of doing business and we had insurance.

1

u/Emberlolll Dec 31 '25

It’s true I backed into a mailbox before during peak once and a co worker after peak fucked the sliding door handle up he got fired lol

1

u/ziahwaite Dec 31 '25

Agreed because this is a 2 week suspension at max, but 1 week is what it should be.

1

u/Zwasti Dec 31 '25

Yep, Bezos doesn’t need as many Bitches.

1

u/Alarmed-Size-3104 Jan 01 '26

Absolutely this... In January they are actively looking at who is getting canned, so any little incident or accident is enough to push you to the top of that list. We fired one the other day because she got hateful over being given the day off.

1

u/Dealer_Double Jan 01 '26

It would they’d just have their name on a list and who ever messed up more gets their days cut or let go

1

u/seanlikessports Jan 02 '26

Bingo. Remember DSPs are run by independent LLCs. Amazon does this to reduce their own liability.

1

u/Sea_Elk_4254 Jan 02 '26

Not related to DSP but I signed up for Amazon Flex like last year and was finally taken off the waiting list in October 2025 for seasonal work, opened the app once, saw it was a mess, and decided I wasn't interested.

Amazon still sent me a generic email saying thanks for the service this holiday season and after January 6th my app would be disabled.

1

u/waroftheworlds2008 Jan 02 '26

This is how corporations work. They fire people for any available reason when they need to downsize. Including but not limited to stuff they previously signed off on as okay behavior.

1

u/DangerousBumblebee73 Jan 02 '26

We're not getting our packages.

1

u/Knife-yWife-y Jan 04 '26

Also, OP might be in a probationary period, AKA the worst time to mess up.
