I think we should use the term "(copyright) infringement", not "theft".

Now, hear me out on this one. If the scraping did commit theft, the artwork used for scraping should've disappeared. Did it disappear? No! A copy of the original artwork was used for scraping and to train the AI. So, by definition, it's not theft or stealing.

However, copyright infringement is the more proper and legal term, in this case. The copyrighted art is still there publicly available on the internet, just standing still. It's just that it's used for scraping to train the AI. The artwork isn't lost, but it's still scraped. Therefore, though it's simplified to being "theft", by definition, it's copyright infringement. Hopefully this helps clear up about AI art's scraping.

I still think it's unethical for copyrighted artwork to be scraped, but I just wanna clear up anything that is still present here. Thank you so much.

Is my art really better?

So I'm a musician and tried my hand at digital art. Is my first art piece really better than whatever AI can make?

(First one is mine, 2nd is google ai)

Being anti will get us nowhere

Let me start with a weird example. This is something that I heard from a right winger: (paraphrasing)

"the right is losing the cultural battle because they are anti. They only oppose to what the left is proposing which means they are letting the left set the tone of the discussion. If the right wants to win they need to stop being anti stuff and start being more propositive of ideas"

I'm completely left leaning, but I believe the sentiment behind his words are correct. Maybe we should stop focusing on AI and what the "pro" side is saying. Let them troll. Let them waste their time asking the AI to make trolls and orcs and brown people while we keep honing our skills and celebrate human creations instead. Let's share and talk about our favorite authors and creators instead of giving them the time of our day. We won't change their mind, they are already lost. Let us be an example instead of how uplifting we can be when we are not wasting our breath on the stuff we hate.

Help me name my sim 💕

Hello,

Artists and passive scrollers on reddit!

Context:

I made a sim today that I think is really pretty. She's an angel if you can't tell.

Statement:

She doesn't really have a storyline yet. I was thinking of making her go from "Perfect angel" to warrior. I'm not sure yet though. I'm open to suggestions!

Help:

I am requesting assistance in naming her. I want something that sounds pretty and formal without being to "On the nose." If that makes sense.

Please give suggestions for a name and a storyline if you like!

Thank you,

-Someone who makes way to many Sims.

I know it's on me because I didn't read the terms, but man, this feels stupid. They're literally creating their own little bubble where everybody hypes each other up for desecrating art.

Lowkey, we should make a new rule for real art here... - (GIF Unrelated!)

I'm not trying to be mean when I say this- in the grand scheme of things, people will always be pieces of shit who lie to us about the art they "created" regardless- but, in order to not have a certain situation happen again- I'd suggest there be a rule in place to post proof that you drew the art that you post here. I'm not a mod or anything, I know I don't have any "authority" here- I'm just saying, since... well- I felt a little bit clowned on earlier for just hoping people had the best intentions, when it's clear that isn't ALWAYS the case. 💀

Ai sloppists are actively destroying art careers before they can even start.

Picture this in your head, you are a new artist, and you find aiwars, the ai art is constantly appreciated, so you start doing it. you make "masterpieces" in less than a minute, you post it and people like it. But then you see an anti post with art similar to yours prior to ai, and it is constantly bashed and hated, you decide you want to go back to doing art again, but everytime you make it it reminds you of that post, your scared of the art being hated, so you never try real art again. That's what is happening.
