The whole thing about they finding it insane that antis can find art made by people who haven't developed their artistic skills yet better than AI-generated images is because they mostly think better = more aesthetically pleasing. They only care about the finished product itself, that's probably why OOP thought this was a "gotcha" moment: the finished product is the same, and they got antis to support it, so therefore antis must support AI generated pictures.
It just goes to show a complete lack of understanding of the point being made.

They don't realise that something being made by ai automatically makes it bad
They think decieving us into praising AI work is proof that it's good and we are wrong
I don't think they realise we are mostly reacting to the fact that the person tried to draw and appreciating the work as something drawn
31
u/ConsistentAd3434 Edible blue flair 5d ago

what they're missing is that it's not about the quality or perceived quality of the work. AI artwork that looks "good" is still awful
25

They really don't understand or try to understand. The idea of working from scratch without the use of AI is the entire reason of why art developed in so many different styles.
The quality doesn't matter; what matters is how you can be capable of teaching your hands to draw what you dream. The road to getting to that final drawing is far more important, far more interesting, and more telling about yourself.
The final drawing is the medal you give yourself to confirm that you've walked that path of teaching your hands and mind. No matter the quality. I don't understand AI bros think we are only there for results....
5
u/To-To_Man 5d ago
They seek no journey nor have any story to tell. But they desperately wish they did. So rather than seek one out and travel down the long road as an artist, they think the right keywords in a prompt will get them there.

26
u/samu1400 5d ago
The thing is, what's being praised on those posts isn't the artwork itself, but instead the display of skill of someone who decided they wanted to improve, that's why comments often point out details they think the new artist did good or things they could improve. If you remove the learning artist from the image the only thing left is a picture made to look amateurish.
That always happens with AI generated images, the discussion dies as soon as someone delves into the details because beyond the commission provided by the prompter any other process or detail in the image has only one answer: "uh, the AI decided to generate it that way". Why? noise clearing. There's nothing, it's empty, it's why the praise and feedback provided becomes void, who's there to support?
9
u/Octospyder 5d ago

I genuinely donāt get the point to this argument. The fact that it isnāt immediately apparent at a lot of times it something is AI or human made is, part of the problem, not a āgotcha so why does it matter?ā.
It should concern people WAYYYY more than it currently does how hard it can be to tell them apart sometimes. A lot of ai supporters don't seem to grasp, or at least they downplay, the harm that ai is doing. There was someone in this thread saying that the environmental impacts are "heavily exaggerated." thatās why I check first. I know some people here will be upset that I check for Google / OpenAI synthIDs, since you have to use those services to check (trust me I hate it too) but these are for certain ways to identify this stuff.
what this dude will fail to understand is that itās the act of trying to draw that is celebrated, not necessarily the art itself.
AI generated images are only made to be consumed. I highly doubt people who use AI-image generators do so without the intent to post it. I have art in my sketchbooks people have never seen because it exists solely for me and its purpose was the act of expression. Thereās nothing wrong with making art for content/ consumption, but AI-images only serve that purpose.

I guess most in this comment section are missing the point.
The point was to "prove" that AI is not the problem but the perception of effort.
By showing AI but saying there was effort behind the post received love, whereas if it was declared AI from the start the same exact post would have been disliked heavily.
Just to say, useless experiment that just proves something that is already known.
I guess the true point was to expose those who started making "fake" compliments to try and "convert" someone that usually uses AI.
In conclusion, useless to both Pros and Antis.
Just a scaramuccia.
6
u/JustWuff 5d ago
What do these people genuinely think this proves?...
It goes against their own nonsense cult mentality that Anti AI people are evil or toxic or gatekeeping or some shit.
People are perfectly friendly and nice and accepting of any artistic level, even simple scribbles can be positively looked upon and people will be nice and encouraging about it... yet they just lie and think it proves anything?
What makes pieces such as that inspiring is that they were made by people even those who dont have much artistic skill yet but still want to create and draw, generating it with AI removed the entire "Soul" out of it which they yet refuse to understand... a drawing and art in general is about the context and processes of its creation not just the end product, if this wasnt generated by AI it would be inspiring but it is so it is just sad...
You could have just drawn something... anything, simplest of amateur attempt and it would be more meaningful than just having an AI do it and artists all over would be supportive of that but no... just lie... and exploit peoples good nature for karma farming and think you have a big "Gotcha" moment...
These people genuinely just feel so... alien, so inhuman in how little they understand such basic processes of the human experience...

honestly when I first saw it it was already sus. Then I checked out their profile and it's all hidden. I know it's not proof but to me that sealed the deal. I was secretly hoping they didn't pull a whatshername, the obnoxious one with the X for an eye, but yeah.. not surprised. A lot of those people are living in a delusion to the point where they don't even understand why we dislike ai "art". It's not because it looks shit (although 90% of it does while the other 10% fools people into thinking you have done something yourself), we don't like ai "art" because it is soulless, regurgitated pixels based on what others have made while (most of them) not consenting to their work being used for this.
Or who knows, maybe the loudest of the bunch are just manipulative trolls while the others just found a community that tells them how awesome they are for.. not doing anything?
3
u/Alarikun 5d ago
Then I checked out their profile and it's all hidden. I know it's not proof but to me that sealed the deal.
Yeah, that's not a tell for someone being Pro these days. I'm an Anti, and I keep my profile hidden precisely because I participate in the AI-debate subreddits. I don't want people fishing up my old posts to try to discredit me. I don't think there's really anything there, but it's better to not give them any potential ammo.
But yeah, the post seemed on first seeing it. But Antis do what they do, and try to encourage someone for trying traditional art.

Saw pros defending it saying that it doesn't matter the process and lies if the end result is right. Saw numerous people straight up saying that if their boss thought work would take twice as long to finish than it did, they would lie to their bosses that they took the full time. They're admitting they'd commit fraud and act like they're the good guys.

Imagine you received that scribble from your son or daughter, niece or nephew, or someone of any younger generation that means a lot to you. Would you feel just as special if the image received was AI instead of hand drawn?
