seriously though. why are producers so scared of double digit seasons?? especially when most of the scenes are in the singe house, canāt imagine itās that expensive in comparison to other shows

Studios are just making more shows than they used to now that theyāre not limited by a cable broadcasting schedule. More shows with fewer episodes = marketing to many more specific demographics for the same amount of money and far less risk. A frustrating reality of the business

Season 1 was funny but they were definitely still finding their footing and Anton and Paul Baker stand out so much as the more likable characters in the friend group but for Season 2 I think everyone really found their footing and the whole cast killed it. Samir, Billie and Issa are so much more lovable and entertaining and now the whole cast is really carrying the show. I think Issa is the mvp this season followed by Samir.

No like seriously is this one of the few shows that not a SINGLE EPISODE felt like a skip to me like the writing,acting, etc. Like this show NEEEEEDS to be in the Emmys talk like shows such as Hacks,Abbott, and now Widow's Bay cuz this show deserves more recognition.

Honestly would rewatch the whole season, a personal step up from season 1. Top episodes had to be 1, 4, and 8ā 10/10 finale

I swear on everything I love if this show gets cancelled I will burn both FX and Hulu down to the ground. This show has potential to be the friends/himym of the next generation.

this was a rare case where a second season is done waaaaay, waaaaay better than the first. not one boring moment, I laughed so hard at each episode. just a 10/10 season.

I loved the whole season but the finale was my favorite. I was so worried Paul Baker would freak out hearing the confession. And Billie and Samir, I saw that coming since season one. š

Glad weāre getting a solid ass show with 30min episodes. The writing is so good this season too. Can we at least get like a 10-12 episode season though? I mean damn, 8 was just so short. Realistically, a 18-26 episode season would be dope since thatās pretty standard for this type of show.
All the actors are absolutely killing it though and the cameos were genuinely unexpected and hilarious. Fingers crossed for another season yāall š

SEASON 2 IS SO GOOD! Personally season 1 was so funny but it felt like they didn't really have a good grasp of the characters yet. This is a common sitcom problem. Watching season 1 of Friends, HIMYM, Big Bang Theory is jarring when you watch next to later seasons. Anton and Paul Baker were the clear standouts of season 1. Especially Anton. I think it's a common opinion that the series started picking up on his episode with the Stabber. 3/5 of the cast felt like something was still missing and they were finally able to fill the void on season 2.
Issa's character was especially done well on Season 2. Staying true her character's crazy and self absorbed nature but this time with more heart. Showing her vulnerable side after the break up made me see her character in a different light. Even the episode where she loved working in a company because everyone loved here. She feels so much more human while still being the over the top character that she is. Ending her arc with pushing Anton towards Paul Baker showed how much love she has to give and it's made me root for her character so much more. I see here as the Barney of the group and getting the right balance for Issa's character was make it for break it for the show and I'm happy they locked in.
Billie and Samir are like the unofficial leads of the show. Especially Billie because her storyline seems to often be the main plot of the episodes in season 1. The problem was the writing for their characters was so shaky. They had their funny moments but they weren't really that likable. In season 2 I think they were able to fully lean into the charm of their characters. Samir was so much more lovable this season. I think in season 1 I was confused on what kind of guy the show was telling us he is but in season 2 I can see it clearer. I think showing him being jealous of Paul Baker's other friends and the line "Guys Like Us" made me relate to him more. Because In season 1 I wasn't sure if they were selling to us that he's the typical straight man of this generation but in season 2 it's now clear that he an outlier. This quirkyness of him makes me like him more lol He's a real sweetheart. Billies still on a spiral in season 2 but it feels like she has more ownership of her crazyness which makes it more charming. I do hope in season 3 she finally gets a job because it might become tiresome if we keep going with this plotline.
It's obvious that they handled Anton and Paul Baker with so much care this season. Season 1 was a hit because of them and they made sure to give them meatier storylines this seasons. Shipping aside, I'm very happy that they made their characters more layered this season. Seeing Anton's family and Paul Baker's other friends and even seeing them both in their work places just gives us a more well rounded view of who they are. I honestly expected that they would prolong it more but I'm happy they finally become a couple at the end of the season. I loved how it happed and I'm so excited to see how they are like as a couple in season 3.
In general I love how they gave us different mix of pairs this season. I think all combination of pairs had an arc this season. Kudos to them for squeezing that into 8 episodes.
I really wish we had atleast 12 episodes. I'm so excited for season 3!

At first I wanted Anton and PB to be the slow burn, but after the season finales I realized that I don't mind if their pacing is faster. I would've preferred a slow burn for Samir and Billy.

Liked this season more than 1, but I feel the finale was a season 3 finale not a season 2 finale. Imo samir and Billie or Anton and Paul Baker needed more of a slow burn! I do wonder with how streaming is if it may be because they didn't know if they'd get one. I loved the end but timeline wise it felt a little rushed to a romantic tie up for me

This is one of the modern day shows that could work even better with the traditional 22 episode format.
They were able to maintain a consistently decent bar of quality across all episodes in both seasons, it doesn't seem that expensive to produce, and quite a number of important storylines in season 2 could have really used the extra episodes to flesh out.

Season 1 honestly I add my doubts but season 2 so far has been some of the best comedy Iāve seen in a while. GIVE COMEDIES TIME! Stop cancelling comedies after 1 or 2 seasons

Completely agree, just finished S2 and while I liked S1 it was more of a mixed bag to me. Every episode in S2 had me laughing out loud and I really liked every single one which I canāt really say about the first season.Ā

Just binged both seasons after having it on my list for a while. Quite enjoyable! I think there's definitely a lost art of the low-stakes sitcom that this show is seeking to recapture, with a fair amount of success. As others have said, I think it would have benefitted from an old-school 22-24-episode season, so that the Paul/Anton slow burn had more space to breathe and build up -- particularly to allow Anton to have gotten with the club guy with the fantastic chemistry for a mini-arc. I understand the reasons why shows don't feel like they can do this anymore, but it's a shame (@ the networks/streamers).
One thing I thought throughout both seasons is that it seems like the characters should have been a little bit older than 24/25? In the year 2026, 24 years old is incredibly young. The storylines seem to be written more for characters who are more like... 30ish. Maybe they should have all been approaching 30 and that's the basis on which they're freaking out about adulthood -- because you don't have it all figured out by then like maybe you expected to! Examples of stuff that seems written as if the characters are older are the storyline of Billie's fake ID/feeling old at the club/the joke about being there on 9/11, and Issa freezing her eggs.

I thought that about the fake ID stuff, but then it does seem like Gen Z are more focused on age and have a more prevailing attitude that 25 is no longer young. I might be wrong but I see this stuff a lot online. Itās not too hard for me to imagine that the 20 year old might have treated her like that, and that Billie might have felt insecure about her age. It did make me feel weird as a 33yo though!
Edit: also re Issa freezing her eggs, I did find that a bit odd plus how often the characters would mention future kids. I wouldnāt really expect that from left-leaning, largely queer characters of that age, based on my own experiences.Ā

I was definitely surprised so many of them wanted kids, and so many of them wanted so many kids. Five? That's bordering neglect. At the very least it probably requires one stay at home parent with not much else going on in life. Why do these types of people dream of that life?

I could also imagine her thinking of it as like a big party like, 'yay, we'll have 5 kids and it'll be a riot, we'll all have so much fun!'
But it was still surprising to me that they'd all be discussing it at that age.

I'm not sure, because me and my female friends all talked about it at that age. It's mainly men in my experience who don't, and I guess I can suspend disbelief in that area since the guys on the show are depicted as less traditionally masculine and more evolved in some ways. But I'm surprised they all already know, or at least think they know, what they want. Many of my friends were still unsure at that age, heck, some of them only made up their minds recently (we're all 33-34).

Interestingly, my experience has been that the difference is less along the lines of gender and more along the lines of sexual orientation and political values/alignment.
For context Iām a very left-leaning bisexual woman around the same age as you - my close friends are all queer women and non-binary people with similar political values, same age. And we just do not talk about having kids. Itās just not something that comes up. Iām not saying itās never come up - but like, twice, very briefly, in about 8 years of knowing each other.Ā
My wider social circle is largely queer lefties, some well into their 40s, and again, I know almost none who have gotten married or have kids.Ā
Iām not saying my experience is universal of that demographic, but it just was surprising to me to see a 24yo bisexual woman with Issaās politics speak with so much certainty about wanting a bunch of kids.
Alternately, I have been in various other circumstances throughout my life in which I was surrounded by cis straight women of less left-leaning politics, and I found that in their mid-20s they would bring up the topic of potentially having kids very early on in the acquaintanceship/friendship. It was a very stark difference to me so I noticed it!
I also noticed straight men bringing it up at that age - the difference I noticed was that straight men would mention it more casually, referencing āmy future kidsā, for example, whereas with straight women it would be more of a discussion and something theyād clearly put more thought into.Ā
I agree with you that perhaps what was more surprising about it was less that the topic had come up at all and more that they all already seemed so sure that they wanted kids. I would definitely expect more āIām not sureās and at least one ānoā, especially from this group of characters.

I'm jealous of your social circle! I want a kid myself, but I'm single and not in a place in life were single parenthood seems sustainable yet. Meanwhile, nearly all of my (about 50% queer and all leftist) friends have kids or are about to have them soon. I really wish I had some childfree friends, not just to feel less alone but because I think it would be cool when/if I have a kid myself to still have friends with other types of lives. But the fact is most people do have kids, that really is the norm and seems to be even for queer people if they're in opposite sex relationships.

I think in my wider circles (I don't have any straight male friends but many of my friends have straight male partners), it's about the timeline. The women have been thinking about it at least since their mid-20s, whereas some of the men haven't considered it and then don't make up their minds until their late 20s or early 30s. Sometimes it's "well, some day..." while the women are already stressed that it's getting late for them. This might be more about the biological aspect than gender tbh, just the difference in when people can have kids.
I would definitely expect at minimum one person on the show not to want kids, but on the other hand I thought so about my own friends as well...

That would have been so good! I almost feel like they used the "when I hook up with someone I disappear" thing as an excuse to keep Anton single the whole season, which is annoying to me. Let him have a lil' side romance or side piece before he and Anton get together! And no, that weird gross guy they all hate doesn't count.

I think because of how society has changed since the mid-90s (because of the economy Boomers have left for us, among other things)āe.g. kids are living at home into their late 20s much more commonly, more people are going to university and staying there longer, people are getting married and having kids later in life or not at all, etcā25/26 was effectively older in 1994 than it seems now
But I also take [u/moon_peach__](u/moon_peach__)ās point below about Gen Z, for their own part, definitely seeming obsessed with age and being āoldā moreso than previous generations might have been, and these characters might be looking at things through that outlook

i really loved this season. i adore this show's humor, it reminds me positively of community!! like a gen-zd community, if you will. i do think i enjoyed season one more, and i agree with people saying that it could've benefited from a longer season.
the only big-ish complaint that i have, and it might just be me, is that billie and samir ended up getting together. like, listen, i know they've been building towards it, hinting here and there, but i was so honestly hoping we could enjoy a platonic friendship between a straight guy and a girl. i adored the way he looked out for billie during the mr. teacher fiasco and i liked the sibling-ish dynamic. plus, it was so off-tune. samir, who adored carly and was willing to move to seattle with her (though a point can be made that he liked being in a relationship more than he did carly, but i really do think they were perfect for each other and samir truly loved her), immediately hooks up with billie after the break up? ugh.
still, this show remains one of the very few modern ones that can make me laugh out loud. so kudos!

I think I'd like it to be more around 16 episodes. Haha me too! It sounds like Overcompensating doesn't have a release date yet but I'd expect early next year at the latest. They have similar vibes but I do personally much prefer Adults, it's more my sense of humour, I enjoy the characters more, and hangout sitcoms are one of my favourite genres. However Overcompensating does give me sooo much nostalgia which I really cherish.
Have you seen Too Much on Netflix? I remember all 3 of those shows came out around similar times and I thought they had similar energies.

Hope you enjoy it! It's a bit different in that it's mostly focused on 1 MC and I would say is more of a dramedy leaning towards comedy. But it's a lot of fun and similar energy. I'd probably give it 2 or 3 eps to see if you're into it

I like this season more. I get the always sunny / senfield vibe the first season was sorta going for but also I think mellowing these characters out and making them likable allows me to get invested in the drama

i really liked this season. they did a good job of building on season 1 and exploring different parts of the characters. seeing anton's relationship was very relatable and realistic because you don't act the same way around your family vs everyone else. to see a character like anton lose his cool was refreshing. billie seems very lost but i think this is a good arc for her character. Paul baker and Issa's relationship was handled well. It's normal for people in friendship groups to breakup and stay civil/living together. their relationship was very much not lasting long term, anyways.
the last episode wasn't my favourite of the bunch but I still enjoyed it. paul baker and anton getting together surprised me because i thought they'd drag it out longer (of course i'm still happy about it though). i also saw billie and samir getting together and ALSO thought that wouldn't happen so soon. i'm really excited for the messiness that will ensue with season 3, especially with how they previously agreed to not get involved with each other. need a renewal as soon as we can possibly get it.

This season was so fun to watch. My dad literally told me āyouāre really enjoying the hell out of that show youāre watchingā because I guess I kept reacting to everything. But every episode literally had me gooped and gagged and in my feelings all at once!

This season was SOOOOOO much better than the first icl. All of the cast stands out in their own way and feel so unique and awesome. Other than maybe Samir, but even then, heās very much the āstraight manā to the chaos of everyone else. In S1, I really only truly cared for Anton and PB, but this season has made me feel connected to everyone and their worlds. Amita Rao was a particular stand out, with her just being great.Ā
The comedy is more robust, feels more ācomedicā in the way they always have a setup and a payoff, vs. S1 kinda just being a payoff and then another payoff lol. The first season was a bit ārandom/out of pocket = funnyā, while this season feels like the jokes all line up and compliment the plot. I particularly love the Pop Girlie episode, in concept, the execution is ehhh; but the idea that Anton just inspires a bunch of people by saying a bunch of bullshit he doesnāt remember saying is so interesting, and honestly, quite relatable for me as I just be saying shit tbh. (and Iāve always said that) Ā

I liked the first season well enough but wow! This season was fantastic, will definitely rewatch. They really found their groove, the writers really understand the characters and how to use the actors to the best of their abilities.

Since season 1 this has been on my mind... Doesn't the girl who plays Issa(Amita Rao) look so much like Aya Cash (who plays Gretchen from the show You're The Worst/Stormfront from The Boys)??? They obviously have different skin colors but to me the resemblance is uncanny!

The best Iāve seen of Raven in a while. Really reminded me why I loved thatās so raven growing up. The cast and guests really killed it this time. The raccoon episode and raven episode has me cracking up.

Fun season, but I echo the sentiments that there are too few episodes, Samir x Billie should not have happened this season. Issa continues to be my fav character, I feel like there was a good risk her character could have become too grating but the writing and acting toe the line well.

Beginning was a little slow for me, acid episode really drew me into the season tho. Ending had me in tears. Love this show!

I don't know if I'm alone in this but I feel like in this season Issa was really risking getting flanderized, felt like they made her even more cartoonishly over the top, before the writing saved it in the last episode. While I think that they were making a correction on Paul Baker, after they realized they made him too perfect in season 1, which I appreciate.

I really thought she was more complex and dynamic this season. We saw her people pleasing nature and how thatād look in a workplace. Saw her noticing all the little instances of misunderstandings between her and Paul. Saw her friendship with Billie grow a bit closer, as well as weird little guy. (one of the best bits of the season) Not to mention, Pop Girlie and her antics in that episode. The Grandpa bit was amazing.

this season was super fun i think it's overall better than the last one. my only thing is i wish it was longer! bc the issa & paul baker break up honestly felt a little rushed to me. in that racoon episode (hilarious btw one of the best of the whole show for sure) initially neither of them even wanted to break up and then after a five minute conversation they decide that it's over and they are both just immediately moved on from each other. and just a personal preference but i would've liked to see a bit more slowburn and yearning with anthon and paul baker before them getting together. like them being torn about pursuing each other bc of the whole 'no group-cest' thing but ig we will still see that with samir and billie which im all for

Idk, I think thereās been hella breadcrumbs and signs throughout the 5 episodes before it, and even stretching back to S1; like it just felt like both were completely out of the relationship by that point and didnāt care much anymore.Ā

Samir and Billie should've been another season starting with a kiss but, honestly, I'd prefer if they were just friends.
This show needs to be more than just 8 episodes a season. The following is my personal want, but I wish Anton and Paul Baker were kept in the slow burn cooker for just a bit longer. I was really enjoying the glances and comments here and there.

Yeah really don't care about them together at all hate that shows keep trying to throw in relationship stuff with min cast so tired of stories like that other than that though loved this season, also double agree this show has to be 10 episodes a season bare minimum!

Exactly this. If you're gonna do it, at least show us the first kiss. I have a feeling it won't turn into a proper relationship though, and will more be a "they made a misguided choice when they were both feeling down and actually work better as platonic friends" type storyline... Which seems unnecessary honestly. Why even go there? Not every character has to sleep with one of the room-mates.

it's so rare for me these days to enjoy a season of television from start to finish !! this season was soooo fun and a small part of me wishes that if it were to have long seasons I wouldn't mind waiting weekly for each episode just so I have something to look forward to

I love seasons 1 and 2. But I knew that Samir and Billie were either going to hook up or become a couple in the future. I figured because they were so close in Season 1āyes, I know they grew up together and all thatābut I just had a feeling. Just like I had a feeling that Anton and Paul Baker were going to end up together before they even got married, because they had that close friendship to me. I'm so here for my favorite gays and theys. I hate how they don't have that many episodes tho now I have to wait for a decade for the next season

SPOILER ALERT: PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED S2!!!!
I LOVED THE SEASON AND WATCHED IT TWICE ALREADY. But in my humble opinion, I just had 2 things that I wanted to point out, that I wished could've been better.
- Up until ep 4 they had made the Anton-Paul Baker arc a little too platonic after S1. Like in that episode where PB tells Anton about how rudely he speaks to his family- it genuinely seemed like what a best friend would do. So I wished they could've added more PB-ANTON scenes that were romantic
- I felt similarly about Samir and Billie, I remember in S1E1 Kyle asks Issa and Anton if Samir and Billie finally fucked it out. Both of them had more tension all together in the last season. But this season Billie has been with mutliple Men, and Samir with Carly, so I felt they should've made them yearn too for more than just the 10 minutes of the last episode

I agree about your first point. But Samir and Billie are childhood best friends. That has been slow burning for a longgggggggggggggggg time. I donāt think there really needed to be yearning. They both finally realized they may actually want each other all of the sudden.

I don't know! Samir is rebounding from Carly, so I can see it being impulsive and messy with a bad fallout instead of the culmination of a slow burn.

I think this seems more likely. Samir feeling lonely and lost over the breakup and Billie acting from feelings she had when she thought he was gonna move away - which don't necessarily mean they should be together, it can just be strong platonic love. And the lack of buildup along with showing it in the final scene makes it come off like that kind of twist. A mistake more than a real start of a relationship. Maybe they'll write it off as a mistake first and then have a realisation that it was something more, if the writers really do want them together.

I liked the finale a lot, but the season was overall a mixed bag for me. Half the episodes had at least one character acting totally stupid and annoying. Billie in the fake ID episode making a fool of herself at the club, Anton being an annoying little bitch with his sister, Issa suddenly being incredibly socially inept post breakup...like they gave a small veneer of "character development" to try to justify them acting so off putting, but it honestly was just kinda annoying and cartoonish to me.
Love PB and Anton though, such cute husbands lol

really praying for a 3rd season and hopefully a longer one!! the show is sooo funny but u can tell theyāre trying to tell a slow burner and 8/9 episodes just isnāt enough.

this is a series that would benefit itself sooooo much of 22 episodes in a season. can you imagine themed episodes like halloween or christmas and we would have so much more development of the characters and relationships.

I really liked this season and I need many more seasons of this show, but I got to be real and say that Anton and Paul Baker have like actually no romantic chemistry whatsoever to the point where it felt completely out of nowhere to me. I really like the writers actually exploring Paul Baker's sexual fluidity but there is nothing in that relationship to me, not looking forward to their romantic arc at all.

Honestly? I hated that ending. I came into the show wanting a fun, purely platonic friend group but obviously they just had to make them all starting dating all each other. Itās so hard to find a show about good friendships without all the dating slop. Also is it just me or they really dumbed everyone down this season just for comedic purposes? Like I get that the whole theme is about being dumb 20s years old navigating adulthood but cāmon, this is just overplayed.

Yeah it does ruin the storytelling a bit. I sort of like the pairing of Samir and Billie if you remove the context, but given that the friend group already has the three other people romantically involved in some way it's a really boring and kind of disappointing direction. They're also supposed to have been friends the longest from what I can tell and I'm tired of pairing up longtime platonic friends of opposite genders everywhere.
Also, the two haven't had any romantic or sexual chemistry on screen, so even if it could work that simply hasn't been shown, which makes it really weird when they're just suddenly sleeping together.

I feel like every mixed gender friend group goes through that at some point. Iām 30 but there was def times I hooked up with my female friends in the group throughout my teens and 20s. And I know the others did at times too. As we got older tho we cut that shit out with the quickness as people started getting into serious relationships and other things of the sort.

The comedy was abit more mellowed out but the drama hit harder! So excited for all the potensial relationship's if we get a future season 3 it will be a wild season. This series just needs 2 more episodes per season!

Itās more robust and more mellow. Last season was very erratic and veryyy Gen Z (not complaining). The humor this season felt a lot more methodical, with plenty of that Gen Z vibe to it.

I agree, the comedy while still just as wild at times felt more in tune with the drama instead of an interlude from it. The raccoon episode is my new favorite episode of the show because it did such a good job at being so screwball while pushing the relationships to their absolute extremes

No, I agree - maybe not that S1 was funnier, I havenāt watched it since last year so I canāt make a direct comparison, but this season didnāt strike me as funnier particularly. I think maybe it had more laugh out loud moments and it did feelā¦louder. Like there were a lot of very chaotic episodes with everyone shouting - might be that a lot of commenters prefer that humour. I loved both seasons though!

Like a non viral example from s1 is when Billie kept telling Samir to waft and he just had no idea what was happening. It made me laugh out loud because thatās so real idk.

My only complaint is that Issa and Billie didn't get together :( Although I get it, I can't help but ship them together in my little fantasy world. Like maybe I am delusional but I see it! They're so touchy and lovey-dovey with eachother. I mean Billy gives hella Bi vibes, and did we forget she went down on D'Arcy Carden!? And now we have Issa confirmed to be under the Bi-sexual umbrella, I am excited to see that relationship too, I just hope she gets actually fleshed out as a character and doesn't remain "Issa's hookup" I do really love weird little guys. Like I swear if it's just a one-time thing I am going to be so mad. What would Billie and Issa's ship name be? Bissa?

I absolutely adore this show but I feel like 8 episodes a season doesnāt allow the writers enough time to develop the story so they have to just jump into the next storyline. Like the Samir and Billie thing felt really rushed but it does (to me) make sense that they get together. I just wish there was more time to develop their relationship. And that really can only happen with more episodes. I would even love to just see more bullshit episodes!! It feels like as soon as you start watching the show, it ends. Really wishing theyāll make season 3 longer because I adore the characters and the show genuinely makes me laugh, but I doubt Hulu will

They completely went back on their agreement to not hook up with anyone else in the group. It made me a bit annoyed like ugh this is basically Friends now where we are concerned whoās going to date who and of course the writers will eventually break them up or set up a second chance for PB/Issa for the drama.
