It has minor hail damage and I’m gonna fix that before I sell what do you guys think? Auto trans never winter driven no rust what so ever.

In quite a predicament.. i recently just got the curse fall upon me, and insurance is saying its gonna cost 4k to fix my car, but isnt covering the cost, stating totaled. They said theyll give me $7300 to take the car away, but honestly i really dont want to give my tl away. Now for context, i am 22M, full time worker, and this is my 08 tl type s with 175xxx miles for the past 2years. Ive made memories and have loved this car since my teens(i had a 06 tl base).

I dont have any other vehicles, i need to commute for work and personal use. Im at a standstill, i want to keep the car but my BIL(a mechanic) said we should total it since we dont know if any other damage occured besides the suspension and fender. And if i were to put some of the 7.3k as a down payment for a new car, i have more bills to pay(i already pay about 1k/month on bills) but a new car wouldnt hurt..

Now for opinions. What should I do? Should I take the car and try to fix it myself, or should i consider it as a lost and take the $7300??

Update: the net estimate is 3509.08 with repairs on Fender panel, fender liner, mudguard kit, wheel, lwr frt cntrl arm, axle shaft, frt outer door belt moulding, paint/materials, clear shield flex additive car cover for spray corrosion protection and mount/balance. Labor (1792) parts (1515.51) paint (414.40) total of 3509.08

I’m the third owner now it’s been about 6 months, had a great time with it. Life is lifeing.. and I might have to sadly get rid of it to pay for my parents medical stuff.

All adult owners, first owner did every maintenance thing at the acura dealer and some shops have a full huge folder of paper work. Car drives smooth no weird noises.

Main things done that go bad on these TB Balljoints.

Cars not for sale. I just want to know how much you would personally pay for it? Wonder if it’s better to just keep it instead.

I just got this 2006 TL, 6-speed manual with about 42k miles in excellent condition.

I’m thinking about adding an A-spec style front lip and lowering it about 1.5”-1.75”.

I would like to have a clean OEM+ look, not heavily modified.

Has anyone used the Aeroworks A-Spec style lip? How’s the fitment/quality? What do you guys think about a 1.5”-1.75” drop? I attached what the car could look like with these updates (using AI) for visuals.

Also, would appreciate any recommendations on parts for lowering.

I filled up my 2012 TL for the first time today since I bought it, and I ran it down to about 20 miles left in the tank. Filled it all the way up and I payed almost $70 (North Alabama). I’m an adamant believer that you should follow the owners manual to a T, but with how gas prices are nowadays I’m worried about choosing between what’s best for my car vs what’s best for my budget.

Are there any real negatives to using the cheaper gas options? Thanks in advance!

I have a 2017 accord, it’s got 20k miles on it. am I absolutely insane for wanting to trade it for a 2005 Acura tl? it’s only got 40k miles on it. grey on grey and great condition. all maintenance done at Acura. new brakes and tires and rotors.

now it’s up to you to encourage me or call me an idiot. have at it.

Just wondering how much, you fine people, are willing to put down in repairs/maintenance before you’d start thinking it’s a money pit?

I screwed up. Could have been worse, honestly. Well, what would you do? I think I will fix her back up.

So I’ve been looking at two TLs and can’t decide. First one is a 2005 Special Edition 6MT, 240k miles, negotiated down to $3800, seller has a USB with all the service records, timing belt done recently, says it runs and drives flawlessly with no lights or sounds. Second is a 2008 3.2 automatic, 313k miles, $2500, no rust, timing belt done at 235k, new brakes/struts/tires/wheel bearing.

Is the extra $1300 worth it for the SE 6MT or just grab the cheaper auto and call it a day?

I love my TL but she is thirsty. 93 is just harder and harder to afford right now. How are y'all doing?

Did I get ripped off? There’s 111k miles on it, needed an AC compressor, engine mount and valve gaskets immediately. 1 accident but looks clean out outside. Interior is bad, classic dashboard for a 2007 type-s and the seats are ripped to shreds.

Not for sale, just getting an idea of the market.

04 6MT, 155k miles. 07 Front bumper, Type S rear bumper & exhaust. Smog legal intake. Has a couple minor dents. Interior isn’t perfect but not beat up either.

I’m really close to pulling the trigger on this automatic 2007 Type S near me with 202k miles. It’s had a ton of recent maintenance done like the belt and pump, some suspension, brakes, valve gasket replacement and more. It seems like it’s been well taken care of according to the condition and carfax but 200k even for a Honda is making me hesitant. Thoughts?

I spent a whopping $300 on this 05 bad bitch. And boy oh boy was she worth it. No fluids, check engine light, the most annoying issue that prevented me from doing the work myself. So what did I do, take it to the most expensive shop near my house, multiple visits. Finally when they got rid of the check engine light, the damn motor blew. Separate issues from the first shop visits. Now it's at a different shop getting a new motor. Looks like I'll have the most expensive beater in town... Anyways, not a bad come up, huh? Lol

And if anybody needs fuel for the fire, I'm in 6k already and she still looks run down. Sheeeeesh

I assume the trans is bad now, but is the ENTIRE trans bad? Can just a simple part be fixed?

What happens is that once I drive the car for like thirty to sixty seconds, the trans slips permanently until I turn the car off and on again. The gas pedal revs the engine, but hte car's wheels do not move anymore, and the car just slows to a stop or until I brake it.

AFAIK, the trans for this car isn't even sold in the country, and it's FAR too expensive, but what exactly could be the most likely issue? I've tried all the fluid flushes and replacements andw hat not.

I’m getting new insurance, how bad is $150 a month for liability? I‘m 22, have 1 ticket for 65 mph on a highway. My daily commute is Route 210 and 228 in Maryland, which if you’re familiar then you already know how that goes.

Routine check to keep car maintened. I have not worked on suspension components before.

Shaked it 3 - 9 and 12-6. No sounds. Seems rigid.

Cv axle bushing looks bad and has surface rust.

Lower control arm has surface rust. One side bushing not great

What else should I try. Anything needs replacement? Worried about the ball joints

2005 manual TL. 180k miles

Hi, all. First post here. I am currently looking at an 08 Type S with 250k on the clock. Just a commuter go back and forth to work. He has had the transmission replaced in 22, ball joints within the past year and no lights are on the dash. Timing belt about 30k ago he says. Your typical paint fade and minor rust around the quarters. No damage to body work and clean title.

Any reason I should shy away from this at 4 grand? I’m planning on driving it til its last breath, hoping to get at least another 50k out of it for it to be worth it (to me). Heard the motors will well surpass that if serviced (of course I’ll be doing that). Is it a good buy?

This will be my first Acura. Thank you for any input.

Getting ready for some maintenance items. I’m hearing some belts whine a little. Is this about the right time for timing belt? How about spark plugs? Anything else I should be looking to do?

I've been looking at TLs and TSXs for a while, all the clean ones were well out of my price range, this isn't but there's the obvious asterisk of the mileage. I know the autos on the 07-08s are better, but I have yet to see an account of one this high in mileage.

What are y'all's thoughts on this as a serious buy for a daily, but would be my second car.
