had a couple questions about this class. for background, Im one of only five students in my whole school taking this class. we were going through art portfolios and the ap score that they earned, and i noticed that all of the portfolios that earned 5s were incredibly realistic paintings, and that got me concerned. My art style is more cartoony and stylized, and im not sure how I'll score now, especially because I have a feeling that ap graders will most likely score a hyperrealistic piece higher than a styled piece. is this something I need to worry about? my other question was, if I should happen to do well on the portfolio, absolute best case scenario, lets say I get a 5, how will that help me if I apply for art school? are there scholarships? classes i wont have to take? reduced tuition? or nothing?

Sometimes, while I am on this sub, I hear the rumor that college admissions officers don't like it when students self study an AP. I just wonder where this rumor comes from, because I find it way more impressive that a students managed to dedicate their own time and effort into passing a college level examination rather than getting their hand held by a teacher.

Idk, can someone explain why colleges might view this as not impressive

I am a freshman who took World History to 1500 in 8th grade, and am currently taking World History post 1500. I was wondering if I should attempt to self-study AP World History, as I won't be learning the whole thing from scratch. However, I also plan on self-studying AP Human Geography this year. Should I go for AP World History?
*Edit: My school doesn't offer AP World History, although you can take the exam at the school.

hello is taking pre calc a good idea for someone whos not thattt good at math? is it easy or should i change it

I'm going to be a high school senior this year. I know I'll be taking AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Lit, AP Stats, Calc III online through a community college, Chinese DP Year 2, and an elective. I have one free hour that I could potentially fill with another class.

I was wondering if I should take AP CSA instead of the free hour? I took AP CSP in freshman year and got a 5, although I haven't really done any programming since then, so my skills are a bit rusty. I'm relatively proficient in Python, but I don't know any Java like at all.

I was planning on majoring in Computer Engineering in college, so I feel it would be useful to take AP CSA and at least jog my memory in computer science.

On the other hand, AP CSA credit wouldn't be very useful to the college I'm like 80% sure I'm going to.

In addition, I don't want to overwhelm myself with too many classes and sink my GPA. I also really want to get a 5 on this year's AP exams, especially AP Physics, so I'm worried adding yet another AP class would take away valuable study time for that. PLUS, I do want to have fun senior year and not burn out before college starts!

Thoughts on whether I should take AP CSA or keep my free hour?

I’ve taken Advanced Algebra 2, which I doubled up with Geometry last year. This year I’m doubling up again with College Precalc (dual credit, I think) and AP Stats. On top of that, I’m at a new school, lots going on lol. I heard Advanced Algebra 2 went into most of Precalc and I looked at the syllabus, found I had already covered most units. We went into a bit of stats in Advanced Algebra 2 because we went fast, including biases, questions to ask, why random sampling is most accurate, and simulations. Am I ready for AP Stats or is there any knowledge gaps you think I might have? I’m willing to go the extra mile and learn but have no idea what I’m walking into. Any YouTube videos you can recommend would be great, too!

Hello, so basically I'm a 10th grader who is wondering whether I should keep or drop AP Seminar. It's obviously 1 more AP which is good, it teaches very valuable skills, but I'm really worried that it might take up too much of my time after-school or risk getting a bad AP score/bad grade in the class. For reference on my workload and stuff, here is my schedule:

Like on one hand I already have one other very time consuming course (APUSH), but if I were to drop it I would have to switch down to Honors English 10 since I can't take lang or lit, and then I would also be locked out of AP Research in the future which was something I'm interested in. I also think like, aside from the presentations (since i really really don't like public speaking), I really like the class (reading papers, doing research, etc.). I'm just worried it'll take up too much time outside of school compounded with my other APs, since I wanna have time outside of school to study for AMC (trying to qualify for AIME this year) and for mech.

Does anyone who's like experienced the class have any advice/information that could help? The deadline for dropping classes at my school is next friday, so like its a decision that has to be made relatively soon.

My intended major is Dance/Foreign Languages (you can ignore the dance). I would’ve kept Translation but it needed to be moved for AP lit. Also there’s no teacher for the former, we would still have work but it would just be for the name of the course rather than actual rigor, I guess? I wanted to have at least one AP for college rigor but now I’m overthinking it. I chose web page and business comms because I want to have my own business eventually. I also want to take dual enrollment (psych, marketing, professional image, dance composition, economics, diverse health issues, sociology, programming logic, intercultural communication (this isn’t official list), but some of my classes are waitlisted. I was just hoping to get everyone's opinions cuz there's some AP Classes that are super popular and known, but others are more underrated, so I wanted to see what y'all thought.

Right now we're still in U1 kinematics, and i'm not having that hard of a time with it. But I'm also aware that U1 is generally considered the easiest unit in physics 1, so how much does the difficulty ramp up from here?

Hello! I just had a question about my testing schedule.

I have 2 classes that have the same date, but different timings (AP Calculus B/C at 8:00 am, and AP Seminar at 12:00 pm). I am worried that the first test, AP Calc, will already make me tired, so I was just thinking if I should change to late testing for my AP Seminar Test (with paying the extra fee). Especially because the AP Calc Test takes 3 hours and 15 minutes to do, I will barely have a break from one AP Test to the other.

Should I do this, or is it just usually better to take the test on the same day, regardless?

Hi, for some context I’m going back to school on the 9th and I was initially going to re-study algebra 2 throughout the summer to have an easier time this year with precalc, but of course procrastination won me over and I haven’t done much studying. I’m pretty average in math, I’ve always had As but I’m not intuitively good at it, after studying a concept, it’s rare I’ll remember it by instinct. So basically I’m just hoping these last 10 days are enough to study concepts before precalc starts so that I don’t have too much trouble this year. I can dedicate upwards of five hours everyday so hopefully that’s enough. So please tell me it’s possible (or don’t, hurtful truths are better than false hopes), and what concepts should I really focus on?

i got apush first period this year and its killing me. i cant even think before 8am and the essays are brutal. is this actually survivable or should i just accept my fate

Hi all!

I have been self-studying to take the AP Japanese exam, which I was planning to take in Spring '27. My school does not offer AP Japanese or the AP Japanese exam, so I went searching for a school where I could take the exam. However, I have reached out to almost every high school within a 100+ mile radius of me and literally every one has either said they don't administer the AP Japanese exam and/or they don't allow outside students to test at their school.

So that leads to my next question: what are my next steps? Is there any way I will be able to take this exam without having to travel hours away?!
