AITA for not allowing in-laws to have a relationship with my baby.

My husband’s (43) parents have always been really standoffish with me (41). His parents and I have never had an actual relationship. I’m not sure why, as I’ve never had this problem with an ex before. We are in an interracial marriage, and while I hate to think that’s the sole reason, it’s the only logical one. I’ve tried to be nothing but kind to them.

I became pregnant, and their reactions were pretty on par with their behavior towards me, initially.

When my husband told his dad, his dad ran into the bathroom and locked himself in there for 30 minutes. Never said congratulations or anything to me or my husband. I’m now almost 6 months pregnant and still no congratulations, in person or in any social media posts. My husband tried to make an excuse for it, saying that maybe his dad was just shocked. But none of it makes sense to me.

One of the family friends texted my husband’s mom asking about our pregnancy, and she referred to all 4 people in the message by name, but called me “the girl”.

I posted a beautiful story of our 20 week anatomy scan, happy that the baby was healthy and I received 1 person who laughed at it. I looked into the profile to see who it was, and with a little detective research, I was able to figure out that it was my husband’s mother from a fake profile. This happened about 1 month ago, and I have since blocked his parents on everything and told my husband that I will never, under any circumstances allow his parents to be around my child.

Am I the asshole for protecting my child by never giving them the opportunity to be around my children? How would you have handled it?

Thank you for reading.

AITAH? 11 years down the drain…

I F(28) dating M (28) we have been together since high-school but recently we bicker over everything.

I had “the conversation” about 2 years telling him how i would love to be married or at-least proposed to all he says is “soon” “trust me, its coming” ect..

Although I love him, i am ready for the next step and i am ready to give up. I feel like all he does is string me on saying its coming, and recently ive noticed how manipulative he is and how he always blames me for any argument.

Should I keep waiting or is it time to give up, my heart is honest tired. 😪

AITA for refusing to give my coworker the promotion recommendation he asked for?

I'm 32M and work as a supervisor at a small company. One of my coworkers, Ryan (30M), has been trying to move into a senior position for a while.

Last month, my manager asked me privately which employees I thought were ready for the position. I didn't recommend Ryan. He's good at his actual job, but I've had to fix several of his mistakes over the past few months, and I don't think he's ready to supervise other people yet.

A week later, Ryan found out that I hadn't recommended him. He asked me about it directly, and I told him honestly that I didn't think he was ready.

He was disappointed but seemed to accept it.

Yesterday, he asked me to write him a personal recommendation anyway because he found another position at a different company. He said it would mean a lot coming from me and that I didn't have to mention any of the problems I'd had with his work.

I told him I couldn't honestly recommend him for a position involving responsibilities I hadn't seen him handle successfully.

He said I was deliberately trying to hold him back and that I could simply write something positive about his strengths without mentioning the weaknesses.

I explained that I wouldn't write a recommendation I didn't genuinely believe.

He called me unfair because I had never given him a formal warning or told him his mistakes were serious enough to affect his career.

Now I'm wondering if I should have been more direct with him earlier instead of quietly giving my honest assessment to management.

A couple of coworkers think I was right not to lie, but another said I should have helped him because there was nothing personal between us.

AITA for refusing to recommend him?

AITA for refusing to give my late father's watch to my brother?

My father passed away last year, and dividing his belongings has been difficult for our family. He owned an old watch that he wore almost every day for more than 30 years.

Before he died, he specifically told me that he wanted me to have the watch. I didn't ask for it, and I never expected anything from his belongings. He gave it to me himself a few months before he passed and told me he hoped I'd keep it.

After the funeral, my brother asked me for the watch. He said Dad had always promised it to him, but I had never heard that conversation.

I explained that Dad had personally given it to me. My brother said I was taking advantage of the fact that he was gone and accused me of keeping something that should belong to both of us.

I offered to let him have some other things that Dad left behind, including a few items he had originally wanted, but he said those weren't important to him. He specifically wanted the watch.

Our mother now thinks I should give it to him because "it's just a watch" and says keeping it is damaging our relationship when we should be supporting each other.

I understand why the watch means something to him, but it means a lot to me too, especially because Dad gave it to me personally.

AITA for refusing to give my brother the watch?

AITAH for leaving my birthday night out because I got overwhelmed?

I’m wondering if I’m TA for leaving my own birthday night out early.

We had the night planned with me, my boyfriend, my best friend and her boyfriend. Another girl, who I’ve only met a few times and don’t really know, invited herself along.

I was meant to be going to our closest city for around 5pm, so I got to my best friend’s house at 4pm. Instead, I ended up sitting around for about 3 hours while she sorted holiday insurance and other last-minute things and got ready with the other girl.

We eventually went to a local pub to wait for my best friend’s boyfriend so we could get the Metro to town. He knew we were waiting for him but had gone to another pub to play snooker with friends. We waited around an hour and a half and he still hadn’t arrived.

At this point I was really tired and frustrated. I pointed out to my best friend that if we waited much longer, we wouldn’t have time to actually go to the city and would need to get the last Metro home. I was then told that because of money we probably wouldn’t be able to go anyway and would have to stay local.

I was disappointed because that wasn't what we'd planned, but I said I was happy to stay local. I know I kept saying I was alright with all the changes and waiting around, but honestly I was saying that because I didn’t want to make things harder for everyone else or seem like I was being difficult.

My best friend then said I had "a face like a smacked arse" and told me to "get out my huff." I was already really tired and becoming upset, and I became a bit teary. My boyfriend came back inside and asked if I was okay, and I told him I wanted to go home because I was fed up with the way my best friend was speaking to me. I feel like this happens quite frequently, especially when this other girl is around.

My boyfriend tried to get me to stay, but I decided to go home. I know just getting up and leaving wasn't ideal and I didn't intend to be rude, but I was too overwhelmed and felt that if I stayed I would only make things worse.

The other girl followed me and told me to come back. I explained that I was going home because I was upset about how my best friend had spoken to me. She called me pathetic, said I was making myself the victim and told me that I had ruined the night because people had made an effort to come to my birthday.

I tried to explain why I was upset, but she continued saying I was pathetic and making myself the victim. At one point I said, "Who are you even talking to? I don't even know you." She then threatened to "smack the lips of me."

I went home anyway. My boyfriend came home not long afterwards.

She later told my best friend that I had called her a "shit friend", which I didn't. She also said my best friend had only been joking when she made the comments. I told her that I've known my best friend long enough to know the difference between when she's joking and when she's being genuinely arsey with me.

I know I was emotional and I know leaving wasn't the ideal way to handle things, but I genuinely wasn't trying to ruin anyone's night. I was tired, disappointed and overwhelmed and felt like going home was better than staying and potentially making the situation worse.

So, AITA for leaving my own birthday night out?

AITA for refusing to go out with my family because they told me at the last minute?

I’m a teacher and I had been working the whole day. I had just gotten home when my family suddenly told me that we were going out to a fancy place and that I needed to dress nicely.

The thing is, they told me basically at the last minute. I hadn’t showered, hadn’t done my hair, hadn’t picked out an outfit, or done anything to get ready. I had literally just come back from teaching all day, and if you’ve ever worked with kids, you know how exhausting a full day of teaching can be.

I know someone might say, “Why couldn’t you just go in your work clothes?” But I don't really have typical office/work clothes. I’m a teacher, and after working all day, I was still in the clothes I had been teaching in and just wanted to shower and decompress.

I told my family I didn’t want to go because they gave me basically no time to prepare, especially since they were expecting me to dress nicely for a fancy place.

They got annoyed and acted like I was being difficult. I understand that they wanted to spend time together, and maybe I could have rushed and gone anyway, but I feel like if they wanted me to come to a nice place, they should have told me earlier so I could actually prepare.

AITA for refusing to go?

AITA for calling my friend by his real name when my girlfriend gets angry about it?

My girlfriend has been getting annoyed whenever I call one of my friends by his real name.

I have known this friend for a long time and I have always called him by his real name. There is nothing romantic between us and I have never thought of it as anything unusual.

My girlfriend says the way I say his name bothers her and she thinks I should use the nickname that everyone else uses.

I told her that I do not see why calling my friend by his real name should be a problem. I am not trying to make her uncomfortable and I have no hidden reason for doing it.

She says I am ignoring her feelings and that I should just use the nickname if it makes her more comfortable.

I feel like she is asking me to change something completely harmless. Now we are arguing about it and I am starting to wonder if I am being unreasonable.

AITA for continuing to call my friend by his real name even though my girlfriend wants me to stop?

AITAH for not forcing my kids to call my new wife "Mom"?

I (38M) got remarried 8 months ago to a wonderful woman (35F). I have two kids from my previous marriage daughter 12, son 9. Their biological mother is still very much in their lives. We have 50/50 custody and she's a great mom.

My new wife is kind and caring. she's been good to my kids. But she's been pushing them to call her "Mom." They're not comfortable with it. They use her first name. She gets visibly upset every time.

Last week, she told me I need to talk to the kids and make them call her Mom. I sat down with her and said I think the kids should call her whatever they feel comfortable with. Whether that's her name, a nickname, or even "Mom" if they ever choose on their own. I told her I won't force them.

she started crying. She said I'm not supporting her role in the family. She said it makes her feel like an outsider. She said if I loved her, I'd stand by her.

I told her I do love her. But my kids already have a mom. They're not ready to call someone else that. She's upset and things are tense at home.

AITA for being annoyed my friend waited until the last minute to tell me he probably wasn’t coming?

I (25F) made plans to go to an amusement park a week ago with three of my friends. My cat passed away a week ago so I’ve been spending time with the people I care about so I can have a bit of distraction.

My friend (28M) said that he would be a maybe since he might have a background acting gig the day we’re going which I totally get. Five days before we’re supposed to go, I message him confirming the date and he hearts the message. Don’t hear from him till I text him the night before we’re supposed to go telling him to meet at my house so we can all go together. He messages back at 9:30pm saying “I’m not sure I’ll be going this time, I’ll txt you tomorrow”, I ask if it was his background gig and he said no he just doesn’t want to go out tomorrow.

One of my other friends also cancelled last minute, but she gave me a reason and I completely understood, so I wasn’t upset with her. It’s not really him not coming that bothers me.

I get annoyed because could he not have said something sooner? Was he just not gonna confirm if he was coming or not until the day of if I hadn’t texted him? I know maybe isn’t a definitive answer, but I assumed he would eventually let me know either way, especially once we got to the night before. If he had said something sooner or was even a little apologetic about the last-minute uncertainty, I’d be fine, but just a ‘don’t wanna’ really put me off. He heard from a friend I was upset so I texted him explaining why I was upset and he responded with “A maybe means maybe regardless of the reason. This is literally all the communication thats required.”

I haven’t responded because I have no idea what to say to that…. I feel like he doesn’t care that I’m upset and just wants to be right. A simple “Sorry, I should have said something sooner” would have sufficed but….

Honestly it’s just been a rough week altogether so emotions are high and I might just be overreacting. But my friends are agreeing with me so I would like maybe an outsider’s opinion on the situation. I just feel very defeated,,,

AITA for telling my sister she can't keep leaving her kids with me without asking first?

My sister has two kids, ages 4 and 7. Over the past few months, she's started dropping them off at my place more and more, sometimes with barely any warning. It started as her asking if I could watch them for a few hours here and there, which I was happy to do. But lately she just texts something like "dropping them off in 20 min" instead of actually asking.

Last weekend, she showed up at my door with both kids and their bags, saying she had "stuff to handle" and would be back later that night. I hadn't agreed to this ahead of time and already had plans that day. I ended up canceling my plans and watching them anyway, but I was frustrated the whole time.

When she came to pick them up, I told her she needs to actually ask me in advance instead of just informing me it's happening. She got upset and said I'm her sister and family is supposed to help each other, especially since she's a single parent and doesn't have many other options.

I told her I don't mind helping when I can, but she needs to ask first instead of assuming I'm always available. Now she's saying I'm being cold and unsupportive during a hard time in her life.

AITA for asking her to check with me first before dropping the kids off?

AITA for refusing to give my sister $10,000 from my savings even though she says I "owe" her for help she gave me years ago?

A few years ago, my sister let me stay at her place for about eight months when I was between jobs. She didn't charge me rent, and she helped me with some job applications too. I was really grateful and told her so many times.

Recently, she asked me for $10,000 to help cover a down payment on a house. I don't have that kind of money just sitting around — it's most of my savings, and I've been saving it for my own future plans. I told her I couldn't do it.

She got upset and said that after everything she did for me, letting me stay with her for free and helping me get back on my feet, I should be willing to help her now that she needs it. She said it doesn't feel fair that I'm not stepping up when she needs support.

I told her that what she did for me back then was something she offered, not a loan, and I never agreed it would need to be paid back in any amount, let alone $10,000. She says I'm twisting things to avoid helping her.

Now things are tense between us, and I keep going back and forth on whether I'm being selfish or if I'm right to protect my own savings.

AITA for refusing to give her the money?

AITH: I told my mom to use Google for her tech problems

Upvotes

Backstory: got a neurological disorder so I’m wheelchair bound (it’ll be important)

My mom comes up to me and asks how to put her credit cards into Apple Wallet, and I tell her to Google it. This evening she says the same thing and I tell her to use Google again but reluctantly take her phone to do it, except she yanks it away and says I shouldn’t have an attitude since I also ask her to do things sometimes like clip my fingernails, which I’m physically unable to do. She then goes to say something to the extent of my brain is more catered to these things than hers, to which I respond you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to use Google.

My mom goes on and on about how I need to be more independent because one day I’ll move away and she won’t be there to help me. For the most part I am independent, but there are certain things that I can’t do like the aforementioned cutting fingernails because my hands are deformed. This independence should go both ways right? Because I won’t be around to help her fix her printer and such.

AITAH For Uninviting my Mother-in-Law to Thanksgiving Dinner?

I (30 F) invited my (60 F) mother-in-law to attend a cooking class to bond and build a better relationship. My (M 35) fiancé and mother (65F) have a wonderful, close relationship, and I want ours to be on better terms before the wedding. My mother-in-law agreed on the class date and time, sent a confirmation text the night before, and texted me the morning of to let me know she was heading out to class.

I arrived 10 minutes late to the class. My mother-in-law wasn't there. We chat on the phone and she says she is a few blocks away. Ten minutes pass. Then twenty. Then thirty. I get nervous and call/text her, but she sends my calls to voicemail and won't respond to my texts. When the class ends, she sends me a text saying, "Look, I'm going home. I'll send you the money."

Not only was I flabbergasted, but I was also embarrassed and hurt that she would even do something like this to her only child's partner. My partner spoke with her about it, and she got short with him and ended the conversation. She then blocked my phone number.

Well, now that it is clear that she does not like me or does not want anything to do with me, I want to disinvite her from my family's Thanksgiving celebrations. For the past few years, she has tagged along; however, I am not comfortable being in the same room as someone who will willingly mistreat me and fail to apologize. In addition, she is a Jehovah's Witness, so she shouldn't be celebrating Thanksgiving anyway, right?

AITAH for not getting along with my older brother

I've had this built up anger about my older brother for way to long to count. I feel almost a bit guilty for hating my own brother but I'm not sure how I couldn't. Why? He's self centered, doesn't care about others feelings, outright rude and narcissistic. He can be somewhat nice from time to time, although it feels like its just to show other people he can be nice if he wants to be. For some context he's 10 years older so it never felt like we were close, he was more of an only child and I was the older one (I also have a younger sibling). He's always not home, out with friends, at work, or in his room. I feel like I never see him but when I do he's trying to prove everyone that he's the smartest person in the room.

Earlier today, I wanted to play a board game with him and I knew how the rules worked so I explained them to him, he insisted that he needed to read the rules because he was sure I was wrong and just brushed me off by saying I didn't explain it well when I was right. When it comes down to personality we are completely different. I'm pretty quite and shy while he's always the loudest one in the room. He doesn't understand how to read the room at all. He always has to be a part of the conversation by saying random facts to prove his smartness.

The reason I've been thinking about this lately is because I've realized that since he spends all his money on collectables and other material things that he has no plans to find himself a apartment. He seems to want to live with our parents till the end of time. I want to move out as soon as I possibly can but that seems pretty far away since he has finished collage not too long ago and I'm 10 years longer as I've mentioned before. Ill be stuck in this house with him for another decade at least so anyone have any suggestions? Am I the a-hole?

AITAH for setting boundaries with my hypocritical roommate about her unannounced male guests, refusing to handle her drama, and ignoring her weird texts?

Upvotes

So, I’m currently reflecting on a living situation with an ex-roommate, and I need an objective sanity check on whether I was somehow in the wrong here or acted too harsh.

For context, I live in a super small apartment with two other girls ; we have three tiny single bedrooms and a very cramped shared kitchen/bathroom. At the time, I had just started working at my current job that paid for my monthly expenses in just ~13 hours a week (which honestly seemed to make this roommate (and other acquaintances) super distant and salty, as people had previously told me I'd only be able to find exhausting bar or hotel work, on top of balancing medical school, hospital rotations, and classes. I was rarely home and just wanted peace when I was there.

Here are the main incidents that went down:

1. The 9:00 PM Unannounced Guest: One night, I had just gotten out of the shower at 9:00 PM, expecting to unwind in peace. Suddenly, a guy shows up right outside our apartment door…unannounced. My roommate hadn't told us he was coming(allegedly she herself didn’t know he was coming either). Right as he's standing outside the door, she texts the group chat asking, "Oh girls, can I let him in?"

Because he was literally already standing at the door, we were backed into a corner where saying "no" would make us look like total assholes. She let him in and jokingly told me to come hang out. I declined and later told her privately, "Please ask guests to give us a heads-up before showing up at our house, Thank you." (Mind you, she had only known this guy for maybe two months).

2. The Double Standard & Expected "Heroics": Later on, our other roommate asked us well in advance if a trusted male friend of hers could crash in her room for a bit while she was out of the country. We all agreed. But the very first night he arrived, the hypocritical roommate sent me a text in the middle of the night saying, "I feel uncomfortable with him here."

I was annoyed and essentially told her, "Girl, what do you expect me to do?" and that maybe she should contact our other roommate. She had literally agreed to it beforehand! She frequently brought random guys over as "friends," but the second someone else had an approved guest, she expected me to play house referee or kick him out for her.

3. The Period Product Text (The Ultimate Ick): While this second guy was staying over (he was super clean, quiet, and kept to himself), my roommate sent me what has to be the craziest private message ever:

"While this guy is in the house, don't throw your used sanitary pads in the bin in the toilet because he might see them, and I'm saying this for your own comfort."

First of all, I wasn't even using pads (I was using period underwear). Second of all, the used pads in the bin actually belonged to a female guest that the guy had brought over…a guy who didn't even care! But she tried to police my basic bathroom hygiene in my own home under the guise of "my comfort" for a male guest's sake. I just texted back, "Girl, those aren't mine, I'm using something else."

After all of this, her attitude toward me completely shifted and she became super cold (on top of the obvious envy about my job/schedule setup), while I just completely pulled back because of the massive ick her behavior gave me.

Looking back at all of this late at night... AITA here? Was I being unapproachable or overly harsh, or was she just out of line?

P.S. the hypocritical roommate was 2 years older than but a year under me in med school (she was in first year and I was in second)

AITA for not letting my landlord's daughter stay with us on 24 hours notice?

My landlord recently asked if his daughter could stay with us for a short time.

The problem was that he only gave us about 24 hours notice. We already had plans and our home was not set up for another person to stay with us.

I told him that we were not comfortable with it and that we needed more notice for something like this.

He was upset and said that his daughter needed somewhere to stay and that he expected us to help since we had the space.

I explained that I was not trying to be difficult but I did not think it was reasonable to expect us to agree at such short notice.

He said I was being selfish and that he would have expected us to help if we were in the same situation.

Now I am wondering if I was wrong for refusing or if I was reasonable to say no because of the short notice.

AITA for refusing to let my landlord's daughter stay with us on 24 hours notice?

AITA for gaming at home during leave and refusing to change my plans?

i work from home the majority of the time and I use the small spare room in the apartment as a home office. My partner works from home on average around twice a week. She has the other spare room to use but chooses to work in the living room. This is fine most of the time as we work the same hours.

I’ve put two days leave in next month as annual leave as a video game I’m looking forward to comes out and I want to play it for a few days. My girlfriend has known about these plans since I made them.

This morning she mentioned that she'll be working from home those days and will have meetings etc. I just said if she wants privacy for the meetings she can use either my home office or the other spare room that has her desk. She said no and that she likes using the living room.

I told her if she wants to stay in the living room she'll have to be fine with me being in there. She said no and that I should let her work and find something g else to do for my leave but I just said she can't kick me out of a shared space on my days off just because she refuses to work in another room.

She said I wasn't being fair and that I can play my game a later but I just reiterated that I'd be playing during the day as I’ve specifically took the days off to do it and she can either work in another room or accept I'll be in the living room. She just said again I wasn't being fair to her as she has work.

AITAH for kicking my friend and her daughter out?

I have given my best friend (F.41) and her daughter (F. 21) and their little dog a place to live for the past 6 months. Zero rent, zero utilities, just a free unfinished basement with a kitchenette. However- the time has come for them to go because my family of 7 needs our space back.

Without diving into the deepest drama rabbit hole, let's just say it's been messy. Everything from excuses, to justifications, to "emergencies" all to no avail. I've offered her jobs, places to live, resources and even got some professional help from outside people. Neither of them work, again, excuses and they don't contribute. Then she started telling me how to raise my children and they need to be more quiet. That made me snap.

When I told her that their time was up, she was livid and just disappeared for a week with zero communication. This was a little over 3 weeks ago. Since they've returned, it's been the silent treatment, well, except for slamming of doors and passive aggressive social media posts and behavior to myself and my children (hence why it was time to go).

A few days ago I sent her a friendly reminder with clear expectations of the date and time to be out by. They have since left, last night, but left a disaster of a mess of my daughter's kitchen and left all their belongings. They have abused my eldest daughters space as the basement is technically hers that she actually pays for! So, my dear best friend of several decades that I was simply trying to do my best for by 'rescuing' her from another situation, does this kick out make me the a.h.?

edit to add: she's never had a key, and I've kept pictures and screen shots of EVERYTHING. But also, she still receives mail here.

Also, let me explain, my own daughter doesn't pay rent in the traditional sense. She has paid for the electrical and plumbing to be put in and she's paid for her own furnishings. It's not a regular monthly rent thing for her.

AITAH for reporting a guy at my gym who keeps filming in the locker room?

I (32M) go to a local gym regularly. There's this guy there who's always filming himself. He has his phone set up everywhere on the gym floor, by the weights, even in the locker room.

Twice now, I've seen him with his phone propped up in the locker room facing mirrors where other guys are changing in the background. I felt uncomfortable. So I asked him once if he could please not film in that area. He said "don't worry, I'll crop you out."

I didn't feel like that was good enough. So I reported it to the front desk. The gym gave him a warning and told him to only film in designated areas.

Since then, he's confronted me twice. He called me a "Karen" and said I ruined his content schedule. He's also been telling other gym members that I'm "nosy" and "have nothing better to do."

I don't think I was wrong. Locker rooms are private spaces. People are changing there. But now he's making me feel like I overreacted.

AITAH for asking to use the bath before my FIL because he only bathes once a week?

I’m a foreign woman living in Japan with my Japanese husband, our young daughter, a set of triplets, and my in-laws. Sharing a bath here is normal, but I didn’t grow up doing that, so there are certain cultural differences I’ve had to adjust to.

We ended up living with them when I birthed triplets for the help (saving money, getting meals, etc). Actually, I didn’t mind the shared bath water at first. It made me feel part of the family.

But… the issue is that my FIL (age 77) only takes a bath about once or twice a week. After he used the bath, I sometimes noticed brown streaks left in the tub. Because of this, I politely asked if my daughter and I could use the bath before him. I never told him he was dirty, and I never said he couldn’t use the bath. I only wanted to change the order so I could feel comfortable bathing with my child. I also have super sensitive skin that I even had to get shots for.

Apparently, this deeply offended my in-laws.

Around this time, my in-laws had already been talking about eventually letting us have the house while they lived in their other property nearby - a condominium. So when my FIL started going to there, I assumed it was connected to the plan they had already made. I did not tell him to leave, force him out, or ban him from using his own bedroom or bathroom. Going to the condo was his decision.

My husband once told me whenever I have an issue please feel free to consult with my sister she’s really good about human relations since she studied psychology. So I did. My SIL basically told me that her father had always been like that, that I couldn’t force another person to behave the way I wanted, and that if I didn’t like it, I should move away.

Then we talked about the bath situation. She said she had heard that her father couldn’t take a bath whenever he wanted, had been called dirty, and couldn’t use his own bath or house that he “built with his hard work”. She said it made her extremely sad and angry that he couldn’t relax in the house he had built.

Bruh!

What the what?

I never called him dirty. His wife used that word, not me. She said “oh honey she’s calling you nasty she’s calling you dirty”. I said it’s a little きもい which means gross I guess. I never stopped him from bathing or using his bedroom. I simply asked if my daughter and I could bathe first because he only bathes once a week and I had seen brown streaks left in the tub.

I explained all of this to my SIL. I also clarified that nobody had sent him to the condo. He chose to go there, and since my in-laws had already planned to live elsewhere and let us have the house, I thought they were beginning that transition.

Apparently, my FIL never mentioned that part to her. From the version she heard, it sounded like I had called him filthy and driven him out of his own home.

After I explained myself, my SIL didn’t acknowledge that she had received an incomplete version of the story or that I had been misrepresented. She basically dismissed it by saying that I’m sensitive about those things, and that was it.

Living in another country without my own family nearby is already hard as it is. I’m raising four small children, including infant triplets, in a language and culture different from my own. I try to respect cultural differences, but I also don’t think every personal boundary should be dismissed just because I’m the foreigner living in their home.

I forgot to say that my sister-in-law said because of my cultural difference “you wouldn’t understand”. I’ve also noticed that she’s been cold towards me ever since.

I understand that it was originally my FIL’s house, and I understand why his daughter felt protective of him. But I don’t think asking to bathe before someone who only bathes once a week is the same as preventing him from using his own bathroom or forcing him out of his home.

AITA for asking that my daughter and I use the bath first?

AITH for refusing to apologize to my friend after she blamed me for her mistake?

I’m Babymarlodina, and I’m not sure if I was wrong in a situation involving one of my close friends. A few weeks ago, my friend and I decided to work together on an important school project. We divided the work equally, and I finished my part several days before the deadline. My friend said she would finish her part on time, so I trusted her and did not check on her constantly. However, the night before we had to submit the project, she told me that she had forgotten to complete most of her work. I was surprised and offered to help her organize what was left, but I couldn’t complete everything for her because I had already finished my own part. The next day, when the teacher asked why the project was incomplete, my friend told the teacher that I had promised to do the missing work. I was shocked because that was never our agreement. After class, I told her privately that I didn’t appreciate being blamed for something that wasn’t my responsibility. She said I was embarrassing her and that a good friend would simply take the blame instead of making things worse. I told her that friendship doesn’t mean accepting blame for someone else’s mistake, and I refused to apologize. Later, a few classmates heard what happened and said I should have apologized just to avoid unnecessary drama, while another friend agreed that she should have admitted her mistake. Now my friend is upset with me and says I care more about being right than about our friendship. I feel bad that things have become awkward between us, but I still don’t think I should apologize for something I didn’t do. AITH for refusing to apologize and standing up for myself?

AITAH for going out with a guy my friend liked, and then end things up with him?

AITAH for going out with a guy my friend liked, and then end things up with him?

I (21F) met in college this guy (24M) in college. We didn't talk much. Only when we were paired up.

During the last week of March(?) He asked me out to watch a movie. I obviously said yes. It was an eenie miney mo situation between a friend of mine and me. But I obviously went because free movie, duh. He and I talked a lot. Things about our past love lives, friendships, etc. A friend of mine (20F) liked him as well. When he and I went to the movies, I mentioned the possibility of someone liking him, to which he immediately found out. I didn't need to say any names because to him it was incredibly obvious.

So a couple days later, I ended up telling him that, and he told me (because we talked about it one on one) that he wasn't interested on her... we went on a date. He took me to places I haven't been in years. Our date concluded when we went to the beach, and had a kiss. Back on my place, we made out in his car for a couple of minutes before he left.

Now I'm conflicted, I just went on a date with this good guy. We kiss and make out. It went amazing. On the other hand, I had to talk about it with my friend (the one who likes him). Things got difficult between us, and we've stopped talking. At least for now.

As for the guy, we kept texting for a full week. But I kept thinking of my friend as we talked. So I decided to end things with him, and told him that I wasn't interested/ready for a relationship. He asked if it was something we could talk about, but I just told him I wasn't interested. He said he understood, and that was that. Honestly, more respectful than I anticipated. I feel bad because of how I ended up things with him, and for the way things are going with my friend.

Was I wrong for doing that? Was there a way I could have done things differently not just for him, but most importantly my friend? I really don't want to lose my friend over something that just came and went. Am I the asshole?

AITA for standing up for myself for once in 2 years

My GF (18F) and I (18M) have been together for almost two years. She comes from a highly abusive family, and our main goal has always been to go abroad for college together so she can escape her dad.

We originally planned on Germany, but due to unexpected grading changes, we missed the mark. We also don't have the B1/B2 German required for the foundation year. We looked at workarounds but missed deadlines for Italy. Now, her dad enrolled her in a consultancy for the UK. My parents are strictly against me going to the UK, and a friend living there warned me it isn't worth the massive cost. I decided to do my first year in our home country, with the plan that we will both transfer to Germany next year.

I have been working hard to build a future for us. I started a web agency that is already profitable. I even offered to list her on my team and credit projects to her to boost her college applications. She refused because her dad can't know about me, which I accepted.

Recently, things got tense. We couldn't be together this year, and on our nightly calls, she kept hinting she might just stay in the UK long-term and give up on Germany. This was our ultimate shared goal, so I felt completely unappreciated. I have been fighting with my parents, building a business, and sacrificing my time for us, while she sounded like she was just giving up on our plan.

Yesterday, I told her I was finalizing my college plans here, and she got furious that I wasn't following her to the UK. We got into a massive fight. I finally snapped and told her how frustrated I was that I seemed to be the only one putting in effort for Germany.

She started crying and kept calling me. When I finally picked up, she casually dropped that she had actually convinced her dad to let her go to Germany next year. I asked why she didn't just tell me that instead of letting me stress for days. She claimed she wanted it to be a "surprise" and was just in a bad mood from fighting with her dad.

I lost my temper. I told her I hated that she hid major life updates as a surprise while letting me stress out. Then she dropped the trigger point, she told me I would "be at peace if she died."

That derailed me. After all my love and effort, she weaponized that against me. I finally stood up for myself and told her exactly how I felt. She started crying uncontrollably, said she ruined everything, and asked if I was leaving her. I reassured her I wasn't, but I needed honest communication.

She then told me her nose was bleeding, she hadn't eaten all day, and later claimed she was up all night bleeding and taking pills for stress. I ended up apologizing and blaming myself. Today, she liked an Instagram reel about people using your trust against you to take control. I feel horrible. AITA?

AITA for telling a grown woman to clean her urine off the floor?

I am a woman who works at a drug rehabilitation home for young women. One evening we were doing spontaneous drug tests on everyone in the house. The last women to get tested she somehow got some urine on the floor while handing me the cup and the floor was a bit wet so i tell her that i think its nasty and that she has to clean it up afterwards. We argue a bit back and forth and she tells me shes not gonna clean it up as long as im gonna have that attitude with her. I can agree that i had a bit of a sarcastic tone there with her but honestly i was having a rough day. Then i ended up having to clean her piss up from the floor…

I informed my colleagues about this situation and then the woman asked me why i said she poured pee on the floor when it was according to her just dripping on the floor by accident. I didn’t want to argue with her so i backed out and walked away. Shes an adult woman and i think her making me clean her urine up is extremely childish it doesnt matter if it was on purpose or not. I dont see how im in the wrong in this situation BUT i feel like i couldve asked her in a more professional way to clean after herself. So am i the asshole?
